Why is there always so much food?

All cousins Revision 10/25/18 Kattrax421B.Com Don't meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy, and taste good with catchup!
  2. My port flipped about 6mnths after my intial surgery n Jan 2010. My surgeon would flip it manually. My surgeon left, and I got a new surgeon who did port revision surgery--he flipped up and moved it to a more accessible area. I was unfilled for the surgery. Like another OP said, my weight loss slowed down some. Hope everything works out okay for you.

Dr. Watkins is amazing !! I was banded there in 07 and there is no one else I would ever trust to do my revision except for him.
  5. Hi All, Has anyone had a revision surgery done at TUFTS hosptial in Boston, MA? If so, what was your process like? Did it take a while for you to get a surgery date scheduled? I have my first appointment with the surgical fellow at the beginning of April, and I'm hoping to have surgery in June or July. Does this sound like a feasible timeline? I have blue cross and blue shield, so I don't have a specific 6 month waiting period.

Let's Get The Duodenal Switch People Together

Hi Tater, DS is the newest, most involved, and least "popular" of the weight loss surgeries. Hopefully, it will get it's own headline soon. I too was a self pay but revised to DS after the sleeve did not give me the results I needed. Going to a sunny climate to have the surgery in the dead of winter sounds great to me. Welcome! Liz
  7. If you haven't, you may want to try posting on the DS message board here: http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/ds/ I would bet there are lots of folks there who have experience with revising to DS. Good luck to you!
  8. OP - I totally get where you are coming from. It's actually my worst fear that the sleeve won't work in the long run. Not everyone reaches their ideal goal and a big part of it is non-compliance but some of it is factors harder to control like genetics or thyroid problems. A great number of us are fighting a constant battle against our own bodies and always being one step ahead of the slump is very hard to maintain. Despite the pontification of some posters on here, I think the battle to maintain effects everyone in some way. I won't say don't do another surgery but I will say I also know people who had gastric bypass or the DS revision you're talking about. A few of them got to goal but struggled with the maintenance and ended up gaining back. I know a woman who lost 150 lbs with gastric bypass but 5 years later she has gained more than 50 lbs back. She is in her 50s and overweight. And she has bad arthiritis now so exercise is difficult. There are no more interventions left for her other than diet and it's a daily struggle. Like the sleeve, DS and bypass are tools, not solutions by themselves. Could they help you get back down to goal? Sure they could. But there's no guarantee you won't find yourself in a similar position in another two years. There are lots of DS resources out there, which other posters shared. People who have undergone DS probably don't post on VSTalk anymore so that's probably why you didn't get a response you'd hoped for. Talking to your old surgeon or nutritionist or a WLS counselor may also help you to determine what options would be best for you at this point. I am rooting for you! Wishing you all the best.

Today is my 1 year Surgiversary!!!

I apologize to the original poster – I’m off topic. @AchieveGoals So, I just checked out ALL your activity on the site. Your comment on this post stuck me as odd. You said " until GERD kicks in" You posted ” So a little bit about me, I was lap banded when I was 17 years old, got it taken out when I was 22 because of pouch enlargement. Now I am thinking of getting sleeve done. But the GERD part scares me, it's like exchanging disease states for one to the other. It helps get rid of Diabetes, but you acquire GERD, so severe to the point that people need revisions to another sleeve or another bariatric procedure. I would be scared to get an RNY or a Bypass, I am happy getting a Sleeve (and this was a decision I thought a lot over to even get to it), so the thought of so many revisions due to GERD scares me to even get this done in the first place. It makes me wonder if I will be one of those who undergoes this too, I don't have current GERD right now, sometimes I do get heartburn maybe three times a month, but I'm not taking anything for it chronically. Anyone have any thoughts? Thank you so much! You are assuming everyone has Gerd on needs revision? Not everyone acquires GERD or needs revision after surgery. Know that many of us have no complications and are doing fine years out. (I’m five years out) Your surgeon would be the one to talk to about having heartburn three months at a time and considering sleeve.
  10. people who do it as a revision don't always lose weight - esp if they're a normal - or close to it - BMI, so she may be OK. A surgeon can tell her for sure. It's probably the best option for someone with reflux.
  11. Yes only a surgeon will be able to advise. Revisions are based on other factors besides weight.
  12. Since most surgeries are done laparoscopically, and most go home the next morning, other than someone driving you home, it's very doable to recover alone. They had me walking the hospital aisles every few hours right after the surgery till I was released at 11 am the next morning. I walked around a lot the day I got home doing light chores... Etc. Back to desk work on day 3 but you do feel very tired for a week or so. Again, as everyone will tell you, everyone is different. These are my experiences (both with vsg and revision to rny).
  13. Hi Trishb! I wanted to share my experience with you - one month post op, the good, bad and ugly (sort of so far) The Good. Dr Gagner is a consummate professional, and so are his staff. He takes the time to listen to your concerns and answer your questions. His staff are responsive (within a couple of days at the most). To date, I healed well and only faced my first test today with nasty acid reflux...hopefully its not a recurrence. The Bad. I didst realize the clinic in which the operation was performed was in a commercial building with a shopping centre. That threw off , but I was pretty determined to go through this. I think in another lifetime I would have run away lol. Its a major surgery and you should ideally be in a hospital. I didn't receive any post-op/discharge instructions re warning signs of complications. Dr Gagner discussed them with me over the phone, when I returned to Ontario - but I had to intiate the request for information... It's rather expensive when you start piling on the hotel costs/travel costs/and other expenditures - considering we can be completely covered through OHIP for the same procedure. The Ugly. Long-term aftercare, or heck even short term! There is mental health side to weight loss surgery and I can't stress how important its for you to feel that you can schedule an appointment with your surgeon, and his team and meet him next week/month or whatever the case. I can only speak to Dr. Gagner on the phone, and I didnt' realize how important after-care is...the OHIP program offers weekly support groups managed by psychologist and nutritionists and follow up for five years! You can't join these support groups if you had the surgery has self-pay. So we're kinda on our own. Second, I started to really be concerned about how I manage complications long term - such as strictures..I am lucky to have a family doctor familiar with the procedure...but there are untold advantages of going directly to your surgeon and his capacity to refer you to a known professional for whatever treatment is required. . I am very lucky to live near a Bariatric Centre of Excellence (Humber Hospital) so if I have a complication, I will head to the ER. But I will have to always explain my story and lack that team based support. I completely understand your need to jump in! and not wait - but there is something precious about that wait-time that I only understood afterwards - this is a significant permanent change in your life. That wait-time prepares you for the challenges ahead and it can get very intense! I found that Dr. Gagner, explained the procedure well, stats on the main complications - however, there was no mention of the fact that GERD (acid reflux) can be so bad for some patients who acquire it post-op that they need to be revised to Gastric Bypass. I heard several stories on Facebook groups and instagrams. He essentially told me that a few # of people develop acid reflux, but you can easily take meds for it and generally resolves it self. I am finding that's not always the case - because its not diet related...its the mechanical problem - the sleeve is a high pressure system and folks either immediately get severe acid reflux or develop it over time. There were no mention that most surgeons now recommend that you do not take NsAIDs - advil etc w/ the sleeve as it can cause ulcers and damage the stomach. There was no mention that long-term some people suffer like teeth decay due to the body's incapacity to absorb Calcium appropriately. I am not sure he's Vitamin list is necessarily the most extensive...most surgeons recommend B12 supplements, but his nutritionist does not...and calcium is on a as need basis. I wish you the best on your journey, and I urge you not to discount the importance of local medical support
  14. I also have the band as on May 7th I will be having a revision to the bypass. I don't weigh much more than you. I found out I have Barrett's esophagus and I cannot do the sleeve. I was told in most cases the bypass cures acid reflux. Anyhow, I've wrapped my head around it. Side note, this is my 3rd wls surgery. I had an a Molina band that didn't adjust ( first band used) It tightened up on me and I couldn't keep food down. I went from 310 to 119, size 2. I had it revised to the adjustable band on 2007. I had foot surgery and gained about 30ish lbs. this year. I had no real issues with band but I went to talk to wls surgeon anyways and found out my esophagus was turning into a stomach and that contributed to the weight gain and then found out with scope biopsy I have Barrett's, precancerous cells. The band has to come out I know I need a tool so if bypass is what I have to do so be it. I would love to keep on touch with both of y'all. I don't understand this site fully, but if u know how add me. . Wednesday at 7, go time

    Weight loss

I did have a lapband and then was revised to a sleeve Sorry about my wording
  16. Well back again, I have my Results Review to set up my revision Tuesday. My wife is not thrilled with the thought. It doesn't help that I had foot surgery 2 weeks ago, the Bone has healed well but the incision is still sore, So she is not excited and is very fearful of the revision, She would prefer I just have the band taken out. I am looking to have the revision done in may and would do both the removal and revision at one time. It doesn't help that she had lunch with a friend who's husband is in medical surgical equipment and told her about how they do the surgery etc. and she thinks I well be depressed as we entertain a lot and I wont be able to eat. I too am still thinking going back and forth with this. Again I have such a long history of Family and personal struggle with weight. The band was a good decision in that i have kept off a good amount of weight for 8 Years, and have adopted a much better life style. (I can't wait to get back to the gym and pool.) But the band has had it's issues, I am going to be 60 this year also. For some time now I drink Protein shakes and have to drink with meals as the pouch is painful even if i have a few bites - due to pouch issues. I am concerned that with out anything I might regain more weight. I know that Eventually will need knee replacement and can't afford to be any heaver. I see other family members who are now older and very overweight having so many issues to get around. I also have friends who have struggled with weight up and down 100/lbs and can not consider WLS as they now have other medical issues. The older one gets the more harder to recover etc. Also I've reached my out of pocket max for the year. (Knee injections, Foot Surgery, and all the Pre Op tests) I have kind of been thinking about this for years wanting to get these last Lbs off but also somewhat comfortable with how I am. But with so many visits to have Fluid put in and out and now my band is empty and Dr.says no more fills and the band needs to come out. My primary care Dr is OK with it but says realize you can have a huge thanksgiving meal. My Knee Dr set a letter that I needed it also. I have been so compliant insurance has agreed to pay for the revision. I have been praying and thinking on this for some time. My thought was that if ins approved it I would go ahead and now that they have i am concerned that i am tempting fate, as I am generally in good shape but would be helpful to looks additional 30/lbs or so. My Daughter was also banded a number of years ago but regained her weight , she actually was the first to start the revision process as she has 2 friends who have the sleeve a few yrs ago and have done well. She started WW back in Aug, while she started the revision process. Ultimately she was not approved Because of non compliance but has now lost 85/lbs on her own! She is very strict but she too is thinking she may need to do something later as she has been through this before and doesn't know if she can keep it off. She is encouraging me to get the sleeve as she know how I work out and have kept a good amount of weight off, She thinks I will do well with it. She says her friends who are a few years out generally eat 1/2 of what is served in a restaurant (Which is often what I do, unless its a salad). Even thought i don't have any fill I have some restriction but am definitely more hungry. Hopefully my Dr will put both of us at ease Any words of encouragement?
  17. My journey started with me at 388 pounds. Lap band was in for 8 years before it scare tissued to my stomach. In 8 years I had lost about 140 pounds. Flew down to Mexicali and had VSG revision, band our and revision same day! Would not change a thing and would never look back. I now hover in the 190-200 range, a few pounds up and a few down. Had absolutely no issue with the revision and in fact the second day walked down the street to the shopping Mall 4 long blocks away just to air my head..... If your thinking about it stop, JUST DO IT! It changed my life..... Will your also....
  18. Okay ladies, I have my surgery today and it went well. I was scared over nothing. Not too much pain or gas..............I have been walking and walking and I slept twice today but for the most part...........I had a great experience and I am so happy to have my new best friend!! I have the Realize band not sure of the size yet but I think 9 or 10 cc but I am told I was suppose to get a serial number for it, so should I ask?? :confused2: We arrived at the hospital at 8am and the Doctor was doing a revision and it made him run behind schedule so 9:30 am changed to 11:45 am but the doc came in talked to me, then the nurse came in with another doctor and while she was talking to me he must have slipped that "feel good" medicine in my IV and all I remember was them rolling me out and the jolly young nurse was still asking me questions and I woke up and it was done...................piece of cake I tell you!!! Thanks for all the support and prayers ladies...............Beyonce watch out!!!
  19. Hello All! I had Surgery on 10/18/23 😊 I am usually in Facebook support groups, but lately they are too busy being negative and quick to tear others down. So, I am here for new scenery. I also noted most the talk and experiences are VSG, and less RNY Gastric Bypass. They are always talking bad about Bypasses until they need a revision to Bypass from VSG. So far I am doing really great! there's some hard moments, such as post op pain, gas, and one episode of dumping. (I think i ate too fast. Eating and talking). I am down -22 lbs. I will be one month post op on November 18th!

    March 23 buddies yet?

Heyyy I just did my revision with a hernia repair and I redid my sleeve instead of bypass. Im finding that my reflux is way worse this time than before. I'm thinking I may have to get the bypass too as well. I really don't want to get another surgery but this burning is not responding to meds. I'm vomiting from it.now. Just all around discomfort. October sleevers?

Today begins my two week liquid diet. I was excited until I woke up this morning hungry lol! I'm going to do my best to stick to the program and not cheat. My liver really needs to shrink because I am a revision (band to sleeve) patient and my liver and stomach are stuck together from scar tissue... I'm nervous and excited at the same time. I'm hoping for the best! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  22. this sucks

    October sleevers?

You can do this! I'm on day 10 of my pre op diet and if I can get through this without a "cheat", you sure can! I also a revision patient. Just keep reminding yourself that it's not worth it. You want to set yourself up for success and you don't succeed if you start out by finding ways to sneak around the rules. It hasn't been easy, but when my stomach is growling, I remember why I am doing it. Drinking lots of extra fluids help fool an empty stomach too. Good luck! 23. Wow! You are basically telling my story. I thought I was the only one!! I was just like you so hopeful and motivated that this would be the answer to my weight problem. I , like you, lost only 11-12 pounds, (maybe less not completely sure of my exact starting weight) in the first week or two and then nothing. I’ve been the same weight for over 6 weeks. I had my ESG on 2/6 so I’m even further post op than you. I’m having the same feelings. I’m frustrated because at this point I’m disappointed in myself and feel like I wasted $10,000. I didn’t feel this way in the beginning or preop. I was so excited and hopeful, heck I started this topic!!😔😔. I’d love to give you advice on what we should do but I’m sorry I don’t have any. It may console you a little to know that you are not the only one. I’d love to keep in touch with you for perhaps some support. Should we look into revision? Do you go to a nutritionist every month? I go to my nutritionist every month and she seems to think that I’m fine losing very, very slowly. All she recommends is that I log everything I eat and up my exercise. I’m with you dear very frustrated! I’m hoping others further postop can chime in and give us real advice or comfort.

Anyone is San Francisco East bay area?

I am in Walnut Creek. I had my VSG on March 3, 2016...but it looks like I need a revision to a RNY. I'll be having it done at Travis AFB again of course. I told my surgeon that my sleeve is his handy work, and I don't want anyone else messing around in there! I am pretty hesitant about the RNY, and I'd like to talk to people that have done it. Please message me if you'd like to chat, or email me at: aschuttpelz@gmail.com Thanks!!
  25. I can't get my old username to work so I had to create a new account but I used to post on here a lot. A little background on me. I had the gastric sleeve in July 2014. I never felt I had the restriction I was supposed to from this surgery. When everyone else was posting they couldn't eat a whole egg or yogurt, I was thinking are they nuts. I could eat that and not feel any fullness at all. My starting weight was 290 and through tracking and monitoring everything I ate, my lowest I got down to was 210 and it took over a year to get there. And then I stopped and got stuck there for months and months. Nothing worked, decreasing calories, increasing calories, changing exercise, nothing. Every time I visited my doctor's office I mentioned my lack of restriction and their advise was "just keep eating your protein and tracking your food". Honestly, I felt like I was doing a weight watchers program again because the lack of restriction I had. Fast forward to now and I have regained 40 of the pounds I lost. For the most part, I'm still watching what I eat, but when you have the ability to consume almost a full entree when you go out to eat, it makes it hard to stay on the program. In the fall of 2016, I finally got my surgeon to check the size of my pouch and he stated it's enlarged and I now have a hernia too. After going through everything in 2016 for a revision, i found out my insurance had a one bariatric surgery per lifetime benefit and would't budge on approving it. At this point it was too late for me to switch to my husbands insurance for 2017. I now have finally switched to his insurance and hoping the revision can finally happen. My surgeon is stating he can either do a resleeve or switch me to a gastric bypass. I choose the sleeve because I didn't like the idea of all the vitamins that are required with the bypass surgery and some of the negative long-term effects I heard about. I'm now considering the bypass because I don't want to get resleeved and be back in the same situation a couple years from now. Has anyone had the sleeve to bypass revision for weight loss? I realize weight loss will be slower with a revision. Can you advise what kind of success you had after the revision or any issues you are having afterward? Thanks for all that reply. On another note, I'm not looking for "this is just a tool and just because you can eat a full entree doesn't mean you should" replies. If I had a sleeve that worked like it was supposed to, I probably wouldn't be posting this.
