    The biggest Loser tonights show

Candysmooch, I just went to the website and Mo hasn't updated his results in a while. You can check here http://www.nbc.com/The_Biggest_Loser/contestants/wherearetheynow/mo.shtml I thought I heard that some of season one's contestants will be on the finale this week. I hope to see MO, he was my favorite from season one. My favorite from season two is Dr. Jeff. I broke my heart when the voted him off. But he is doing great and I am looking forward to seeing him at the Finale this week. Matt drives me crazy crying all the time! That boy needs an antidepressant. Yes he looks great so far, but stop crying on every show! Seth and Suzy have done great jobs but I lost interest when Dr Jeff was voted off. Good luck to all of them!! And may the biggest loser win!!!
  2. I had my surgery in December 2004 and I've been doing very well with my band. I weighed 205 when I was banded and I made it down to 124 lbs. Over the summer I experienced severe restriction without having a fill. My doctor removed the fill and waited a couple of weeks then gave me a very small fill. This was in Sept. After my small fill I never felt the restriction. I started to put some weight on. I went back to the doctor, scheduled another fill and went in today. It was under flouro and we both watched as he filled me up and I had no restriction. He thinks my band erroded and now I have to an endoscopy. I'm so worried because I finally reached my goal weight and my doctor doesn't seem like he's willing to have me rebanded if my band erroded. I still don't know for sure but there really is no other explaination. I'm just devasted.

Soon to be banded. 11/23 AAAHHHHHH Nerves

I am 5' tall and was 234. I call myself the weeble wobble. I had no comorbidity, in other words I have no illnesses. I didn't have high BP my cholesterol was only up 2 points and down 2 points for good cholesterol. I had no signs of diabetes but I have Hypothyroidism which causes weight gain and then PCOS which causes weight gain. So with the odds stacked against me and wanting to be proactive I was blessed that the insurance approved me. As far as the first few weeks, they are tough, liquid diet to mushy to solids. Definately research recipes ahead of time, it will make your life so much easier to have several ideas for mushy foods. I made thick chili with bison meat. 4oz or half a cup was 23g of Protein. The pain wasn't that bad, as long as you don't lay around. You have to get up and walk and it is uncomfy, but it is much more uncomfortable to have gas trapped in your body. Once on solids before a fill, you are going to be hungry at times, Water, water, water, fluids, fluids, fluds. Stay away from sugar and carbs and you should loose weight fine. I wish you the best of luck.
  4. In the beginning, I was having trouble with meat also....my Surgeon said that is not unusual... Since all my Dr.'s have been preaching to me about cutting back on Red Meat to once a week at least, and MANY of my friends have gone vegetarian....I figured it was as good as time as any since this is to be a all out life changing event... So I have been without red meat for 1 1/2 years now..... I'm not fanatical about it....I'm not picky if meat is in chili, etc,. you just won't see me ordering a steak, roast or pork chops.....fir instance. Plus I'm sure it will not go down anyway..... Again, one of the best decisions I've made...I can definitely tell the difference....
  5. I've also heard such dire predictions from the so called "nay sayers", and also that on average an individual will loose only 66% of their excess weight with the band. My weight loss has also been basically stalled over the past few months, but I do attribute that to the 2 surgeries I have had since December, 2012. I will reach my first "bandiversary" short of my goal, however also 78 lbs less than I was, and much healthier from a clinical standpoint. I have little doubt that I will reach my goal, as I know how to work with my band and how to eat a healthy, band friendly diet. The carb addiction which was a major factor of my weight gain is in the past, and I am vigilant to keep it there. I know from my history, it will be the exercise which will help me reach my goal. It helped me to begin to use a "Fitbit", which helped me see how many calories my activity level that day had burned, and it motivated me to get on track and exercise more regularly. I still lack the patience to participate in "My Fitness Pal", at least I believe that is where you log your foods daily. I just try to stay with basic and unprocessed foods, and that has worked for me. I also believe that motivation for success and maintaining focus on goals are integral parts to successful weight loss. We will all get to where we want to be weight wise, if we are sufficiently motivated to get there!

Band bound in St. Louis, MO on 12/28!!

Hope all goes well for you! I was banded on 12/13 and am doing really well. I'm down about 26 lbs in my first two weeks!

Just got the band three days ago

Hi Megan, Welcome..... I'm sorry to hear you are having gas pain, I did as well. I was banded on 4/26 and I still continue to have inermittent gas pains in my shoulder, chest and lower stomach although they are much better than they were. Unfortunately my doctor told me that these can hang around for up to a week or so and as gross as it sounds you just have to "let it out" when it wants to come out and try walking as much as possible. Congratulations on getting banded! Faith
  8. You are lucky that you are moving onto stages of real food. I don't even get soup or yogurt until Thursday. I wonder what would be good pureed too? Can you puree a cheeseburger? Lol... yes, it's still on my mind. Can you eat cottage cheese? That is in my "soft foods" stage and I can't wait 'cause I love the stuff. I can't wait until I can start eating "real" meals again, though. I'm looking forward to week four of my diet because I can start eating soft fish! Yay Friday fish fry!

    Delicious Chili

I am now 2 weeks. And feel I might implode. Finally did get some relief the other night and it was hilarious. My 4 year old slept with me that night and I had my escape valve finally blow. Here is this little guy who out of dead sleep wakes and says "Mom, if you fart again and giggle shaking the bed I'm sending you to jail. I need to sleep not worry about breathing." I told him I was to be called the Tormentor. Gotta love a kid that young that has such a great sense of humor already.

    Removal in 10 days

Since I had emergency removal I didn't have a pre-op diet. I did have egg whites a week before removal but that was they only solid thing I'd had in weeks. I definitely was not getting in enough protein and my bloodwork from the ER showed it all. I'm close to 43 hours post op. Still struggling to get in protein, im on clear liquids so no shakes for me.

    Confused...Gas Pain vs. Gas Pain

For me it was both. Right after surgery, same day, I felt very bloated and there was lots of rumbling going on in my stomach. Shoulder pain arrived soon after. As I understood it, the gas from surgery hangs around in your body and is absorbed by the tissues. It needs to exit the body sooner or later and for some people it is a slow... painful process. The pain in the shoulder can come and go without warning. You just have to try and do whatever you can to pass it such as use a heating pad, walk, lay on your sides, and walk some more. Once I started the full liquid stage, it seemed anything I put in my body built more gas. For instance, Protein drinks were the worst. I could feel the building and rumbling within minutes of drinking it. It does get better with time but I am 4 weeks out and still have a problem with gas in the stomach, sometimes I wonder if I will ever stop passing it. The shoulder pain still shows up once in awhile too although it is for much shorter periods of time. Hope this helps answer your question.
  12. Hello August All Stars 08, We are approaching our third band-aversary in three months. I'm getting reflective and wanted to reach out to the support group that helped us get through the most difficult period, our first year. I am guilty of not keeping our site active and supporting each other. My band journey is still very positive. I had complications with my port cord about 6 months ago and needed to have the cord repaired in a 30 minute procedure. I noticed a lot less restriction. The nurse couldn't get any fluid out of my band. The doctor did a fluoroscope and saw the cord was damaged with no explanation how it happened. I gained about 12 pounds before the port was repaired. I am back on track with decent restriction. 30 minutes every day on the treadmill. I am down about 60 lbs total and working to ad to that number. I still love my band and would do it again without question. On a personal note, I turned 51, my dear wife survived a cancer scare last year, my oldest son graduated college last week. I wish everyone good health and continued success with your band journey. Sincerely, Gary B

    PMS & Slippage

BBG, I am so sorry that you've had such a rough week! Sending you mucho hugs and comfort. :) :girl_hug: I'm no doctor (and I don't even play one on TV) but you may just be jumping the gun a little on band slippage. The monthly cycle is one of most intense times for our bodies; hormones make everything a challenge and you know that with 7 days of PMS -- nothing makes any sense at all. :noidea: My advice is to BREATHE, allow your body to finish its hormone dance and make no decisions until that cycle is complete. Do the non-food things that give you comfort like:bathbaby: :drum: , or whatever makes you feel good. Instead of fighting your body and band, follow the lead it offers; eat when you can, and BREATHE when you can't. And of course, check back here whenever you get "squirrelly ."  and best wishes, Jo Ann
  15. I didn't think I would be this nervous. How much pain were you all in one week post op? Were you able to get out and drive or travel? Was anyone on a special diet the day before surgery?

    great Protein Drink

Another awesome protien powder drink is Kashi Go Lean Chocolate (30g protien per drink) - blend it good with ice cold milk. Yum. I had major jaw surgery a couple of years ago and existed on that and Odwalla Superfood for 3 weeks! - enjoy, Dawn

Pictures, Scales And Mirrors!! Oh My!!!

Wow, I totally just realized reading your post that I already reached my original goal weight of 155lbs (from 263). Nearing the end, I had extended it, but didn't really register the fact that when I started this journey, my goal was 155. Now my goal is like... 130. We'll see, lol! I weigh myself everyday. When I'm on an "off-time" and eating poorly, I may not. And yes, I have put weight back on.... since the beginning of the year, I put on 10lbs (stress from covering someone's maternity leave and doubling my responsibilities at work). In the past week, I've taken off 9lbs of that. I'll lose the next pound and then continue on with losing weight. I try to be better, become healthier, and lose more weight (even though people tell me I shouldn't).... but I feel good now. I hit a point where I became very confident and outgoing - I felt attractive (and boy has there been a response to that). Since I put on weight, I lost that a bit, and I'm trying to re-gain it. We always worry about those small little pounds and how quickly we want them gone, especially when you've reached or gotten close to your goal weight. The thing that always grounds me is that I still have the rest of my life to improve myself. I'm only 29 years old. In one month, I will have been banded 3 years. And in that time, I've lost 110lbs.... which is great and incredible! But if you were to break it down and figure out how much weekly weight loss I had.....less than a pound a week spread out. Sometimes it was more, sometimes less, sometimes none, and sometimes I gained. But in the end, I'm no longer overweight.

Had First Fill Last Week, Painful Bruising!

Ive never bruised from a fill even the last time that i went i was poked 3-4 times because they couldnt find my port right away. Idk why it would even bruise. Did the Dr push down on ur port area really hard??
  19. I've had over 8 fills in the last almost 3 yrs and after every single one of them, my port area is sore and bruised for about 4-5 days. After my fill 3 weeks ago, they had a hard time finding my port and stuck me about 6x and that resulted in a very bruised and painful area. Since it happens to me every single time, I'd say it was normal. Good luck! Marci

  22. I have recently moved from the northwest to the pensacola area and I am looking for a fill doctor. My band seems to be quite tight right now and would like an unfill. I even went to the E.R and they were unable to help me. Charged me 160.00 though. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I am also willing to drive to surrounding states if need too. I've called 4 doctors in this area and they will not accept me because they didn't due the surgery. Imagine if Doctors treated cardiac by-pass patients that way! Thanks for any info. Banded 3/18/04 Dr Ortiz down -80lbs.

Looking for Dr. in Baltimore ,Maryland.

I had a very bad experience with GBMC and I am now going to The Weight Loss Clinic in Harrisburg, PA, as I live in PA about halfway between Baltimore and Harrisburg. I am an ICU RN and I found the surgeon and dietitian to be fantastic, but their nurse practitioner did not impress me. My BMI was borderline to start with at 39.4 and the NP put me on a diet that my insurance company did not require, and *me* trying to prove to myself and everyone else that I was serious about this decision made the mistake of actually loosing 20 pounds leaving me with a BMI of 37. Mea Culpa. Of course, I was told that they should have submitted my beginning weight/BMI by people on these boards. Anyway, the NP called me said said they were submitting me for approval. Then she called back and said she had made a mistake - and that I still needed a sleep study. So, 3 months into this, after having all my testing done and paying nearly $1,000 out of my pocket, including the $300 that they charge for the NP and Dietitian, I get a call from the office insurance handler. She told me that the NP had talked with the surgeon and they wanted me to pay them $14,000 up front for the surgery. They refused to even try to submit it to my insurance. I told them, as it was the NP's fault for choosing to put me on a diet which my insurance didn't require rather than just getting my testing done and leave it at that, I was done. I wanted a copy of my chart. If I have to pay $14,000 to someone it is going to be someone with some common sense! So, I did some investigation. I called my insurance company and they told me that even though it was an outpatient procedure and did not require prior approval, it *could* be submitted anyway just to make sure it would be covered. GBMC would not do that. To make a long story short, in May I made an appointment with Dr. Currie in Harrisburg and the first thing his staff did when I told them my story was cock her head sideways and ask me why did they put you on a diet? That was when I knew I was in the right place! They took all the testing I had just had done and basically fast-tracked me through their program (of course I have gained back the 20 pounds I lost out of frustration alone!). They are going to submit me for my insurance approval and I should know something within a month. Bottom line, I can't recommend GBMC, but I hope your luck with them was better than mine.

Anyone had blood clots after surgery?

Well - I was off on Short Term when I had the first round of clots. I had just given birth 2 1/2 weeks earlier. But once your anti coagulated - you should be ok to resume normal activities. They usually keep you on blood thinners about a year to give your body time to reabsorb them into your system. The blood thinners do not absorb the existing clots. And your PCP is correct that they just prevent new ones from forming. For example - the DVT in my leg is still there. I had to do a scan prior to my surgery because of my history and I still have one in my leg. They told me not to worry - because its been there over 4 years and it won't move - scar tissue forms over it. I would need to worry if I broke my leg or has some other type of trauma to my leg. I had a DVT/PE in 2003 and had another DVT in 2004 (which I believe is the same one - but they don't know for sure) so I will always be on some form of blood thinner. It is scary stuff. It was my biggest concern getting this surgery - but at this point you now your prone to them and they will now take the extra precautions to make sure this doesn't happen. But I did have a filter put in prior to my surgery which will help from traveling from my leg to my lungs should anything occur. Hope everything goes well! =)

    Texarkana Bandsters link broke?

HELLO EVERYONE!! Just checking in, haven't been on in a while. My last fill was a bit too tight, I went back took a little out, but it is still tight. I cannot eat much of anything. You'd think I'd be losing like crazy, but I've only lost 4 lbs during these last 2 weeks. A drink of water is sometimes too much! My spouse gets irritated when we go out to eat; I can't eat as much as before so he thinks it's not enjoyable. I get to taste "some" of the food and he usually gets the take home box. I do enjoy it, but I have to admit it really isn't much "fun" anymore because my choices are sooo limited. I'll have to do some looking back, but I think I read where we are going to start having a meeting in Nashville,Ar. soon. That will be better for me. Sugarbear, how are things going for you? I need to change my scale but think I'll wait until I get a few more lbs. off. I'm a year out now and have only lost 44 lbs, have 71 lbs to go to reach ultimate goal. I have gone down 3 sizes in clothes and my energy level is up again, especially since I started taking Juice Plus:smile2:
