I made some rookie mistakes yesterday when I added fruit and vegetables to my protein shake. I put so much in that there wasn't room for hardly any ice. By the end of the drink, it just tasted like lukewarm beet juice. Today's is much better! 1 scoop of market pantry chocolate protein 3 tablespoons of organic fat free vanilla yogurt 1/2 large organic cucumber 1 handful of organic blueberries lots of ice This is a much smoother taste. And according to the interwebs, cucumber is a natural anti-inflammatory!

Not as much restriction as expected!
God4me replied to TXBrittBritt's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello I am a revision as well. Often as having a revision, we compare restriction with the band as I did. Having our type of surgery as I did in the same surgery (revision) having scar tissue plays a part in that. The Sleeve is a sterner master and I was worried when I could eat more after a month. Liquids do go down quicker and each food type has the ability to have different type of restriction. Liquids= no restriction/ Soft food= moderate restriction/ Solid foods depending on what kind= restriction. I am 2 months out and have been a slow loser with the 3 week stall and for my age and pre-menopause, taking BP pills ALL have played a part in my weight lost. Not to forget your "bougie" size, the measuring device used to measure your new stomach size. ALL of these factors play a part. Drink plenty of Water, Protein a must and watch slider foods that will not support your weight lost. The sleeve works you just have to work with it and not compare yourself with others. Remember this is no the band , thank God and we have a new stomach that we have to get use to. I have restriction and I weight out my food and STOP willfully when I feel the full signal, Over eating with the sleeve is out of bounds as it is nothing like the band, as stated this is sterner master and will not allow you to get away with eating around it. Work the Sleeve it is truly a great tool! I remember being angry as I was 2 months out and only 15lb loss. Well since then I have lost 4lbs and it just came off. -

Band Vs. Sleeve - Freaked Out...
KellyL replied to SashaWLS's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sorry you are going through this, I know it's not an easy decision. But I would not let anyone pressure me into a surgery that I didn't feel 100% comfortable with. Do you know how many sleeves this surgeon has performed? It's not very common any more for Surgeons to promote the Band over the Sleeve, so it would concern me that maybe he's just not as comfortable doing the Sleeve if he hasn't done that many? Is he aware of the high # of complications and revisions from being Banded? Is there another surgeon who has equal experience, that you might consider or at least get a second opinion? Keep reading and researching til you feel comfortable with your decision, there is complication and revision threads in most of these forums if you haven't already read them. Good luck!! -
11 Year Old Lapband...has anyone else had one this long and been revised?
123Go replied to Sleevestriss's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had a band for 7 and a half years... started having a lot of trouble with reflux and vomiting at about year 4 but put up with it because i was scared to have it taken out (i had lost nearly 40 kilos).... but then i started gaining weight anyway because it always had to be unfilled to try and settle the reflux. So last year i decided to revise to a sleeve. I had the band removed in November - lucky i did too because it had slipped and 'was a mess' (the words of my surgeon that removed it). Ive been waiting since then for my stomach to heal and will be sleeved in just over 2 weeks. Ive regained a lot of weight but let me tell you - having that band out was like a huge sigh of relief! My doc seems confident that the healing time will reduce the risks significantly, considering how mangled my stomach was, but maybe thats just his process - I see lots of people on here that do the revision in one step and have great recovery and results. Im scared still but excited at the same time. Best of luck -
Welcome to the family Zafiro - happy to have you here. Your apprhension is normal, we've all gone through it or are going through it. I am almost 4 months out and I can say now that I am not the least bit sorry that I had the surgery -- now, if you'd ask me about month 2, I'd have had a hard time saying that. My worst post-op issue has been esophogeal spasming and the surgeon believes that is caused by the fact that I had a hiatal hernia repaired and also believes it will dissipate by 6 months out -- I can tell you it has definitely gotten better from where I was at 1 month. There are a lot of people on this forum who have revised from the band to the sleeve -- PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE read their stories before settling on the band. ASK LOTS OF QUESTIONS - SOMEONE HERE WILL ANSWER YOU!

Medicare Lapband Revision Denials Low BMI
SKF posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am reaching out to anyone who can share help in getting Gastric Sleeve approved by Humana Medicare after an emergency Lap Band Removal with a low BMI 30. Are there Any Advocates that can help with a denial and now trying to Appeal? This is just not fair. I am sure there are a lot of Lapband removals Out there. Medicare guidelines are not up to the times of all these problems that are going on with failed Lapband and medical issues causing patients. Thanks for any feedback. BTW they told e to reapply when I reached 35... I have 3 of the comorbids and my band was successful too for me for 5 years. -
11 Year Old Lapband...has anyone else had one this long and been revised?
MissMo replied to Sleevestriss's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had mine for exactly 6 years before revision. My story is of band failure also. One year after placement and many attempts at the sweet spot I never found it. I was under and overfilled for a year and then no one could penetrate the port for adjustment. I lived with an un serviced band for 5 years and had revision about a year ago with no -complications or scar tissue. It was 1 day outpatient surgery. -
Available Lap Band Buddy / Mentor Got my band in '97
deelooka posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was under the FDA study, and have been through it all. Revised Sept of 2004 and it gave me a new lease on life. At 5'1, I weighed 221, and now around 155. Frankly, I can lose another few pounds, and I'm going for another fill this week, but I won't let it get me down. If you're in the NYC area, I can meet you to talk about the surgery (If you're nervous about it) or how you feel post-op. -
I had lap band surgery 4.5 years ago. I'm hoping to revise to the sleeve. But in the past I was always hot. Probably since I've lost weight, I won't even think about wearing shorts unless it's more than 75 out. I am cold a lot. I still am hot in the summer, but I'm definitely colder than I used to be

I'm still looking for my green zone. Also getting very frustrated. I got another fill yesterday and am now up to 7.5cc. I asked about revision surgery as well. I've lost 20ish lbs since having the band that I've kept off. I've lost up to 40lbs and gained back when I was off work and had no insurance for over a year. I've gained 7 since this time last year and I've had 2 fills this year (before the one yesterday), but I keep hanging on to those pounds. Not gaining, but not going down. I haven't felt any real restriction yet!! I'm on liquids again today and then soft/mushy tomorrow. I'm not sure what I'll do if I can't make something happen this go around. Right now I feel so dang hungry though. My body still trying to make that adjustment I suppose. If i can get back to my real workouts I know it would help...I've been in an aircast for a while due to tendon/plantar fasciitis. Which I know would really get better if I could lose some weight!!! I guess all we can do is keep fighting for it.

Hi I too am feeling like I am losing slowly. My mom keeps asking me why I am not losing weight, but I have lost. I was 239 before pre-op diet, then I was 126 pre-op and now I am 212. My surgery was on June 2, 2014. When I was banded I started at 280 that was in 2009. I weighed my lowest two years ago after my knee surgery which was 185, I had problems with my band and as you see I was back up to 239 at the time of my decision for the revision. I think as previous band patients we lose bulk of our weight then so when we have a revision it seems to move a lot slower. I feel somewhat discourage but I know what I have to do to make this tool work for me. I afraid of going to work next week and getting all my Protein in as well as eating relaxed and well. good luck

I had my band to sleeve revision surgery on 5/23. I am doing well; healing, gaining some energy and progressing well with solid foods, but my weight loss seems extrememly slow, compared to others. I know "compared to others" is the problem and that we are all different and not supposed to compare, but you can't help but notice that some people seem to drop 50-60 pounds in the first few weeks. My SW was 225 and I lost 8 pounds on my two-week pre-op diet.and another 15 since my surgery date. I'm only down a total of 23 pounds. What am I doing wrong?????? Is anyone else who is a band to sleeve revision also experiencing slower-than-expected weight loss?
-
I have learned your body is going to do what it's going to do. I'm 7 months out and am down 45 lbs when a lot of people have already reach goal. I'm also a revision patient, had the band in 2007 and converted to sleeve November 20, 2013. Just stick to the rules and you will lose, slow sometime and sometimes fast. I will give you an example, for the past 3 months I have not done anything as far as weight loss goes, I've bounces around with the same 5 pounds for months. Everyone says after month 6 it slows down and I was really worried because it was already slow but suddenly from month 6 to 7 my weightloss has done the opposite and I'm almost down 10 lbs this month, so everyone is different. Focus on you and your journey, that's what I have to keep telling myself as well because it's easy to compare yourself to others. Best wishes to you!

7 Months and Feeling Like a Success
ButterflyBandita?? posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Hi Everyone, I wanted to provide an update on my progress. I've been 100% happy with my sleeve. I converted from the band back in October 2010. I was banded in Jan 2010 at 200 lbs and only lost 15 lbs from that time untill October when I revised. I hated the band! Weightloss with the sleeve has been effortless. Yes, I struggled with dumping and other weird side effects. I even had to have my gallbadder removed 6 weeks ago and now have diarhea, but you know what? I'd do it all again in a heart beat. I went to Mexico and saw Dr. Rodriguez through BeLightWeight (or however they spell it). The first few months I really focused on Protein first, etc, etc. but the past few months, I really just eat (AND DRINK) whatever I want. My weight loss has slowed down the last 2 months, but I still lose. I also haven't exercised much at all either. Just eating small portions. VERY small portions. I'm now down to 128 and am fine with that. I'll maybe lose 10 more, as I'm only 5'3", but I'm in the normal range now, wearing sizes 1 - 4 and feeling generally pretty great. I did lose some hair and it seems to hav stopped now, but again. Totally worth it. I"m inlcuding some pictures of a yearly bus trip that I take with friends each year at the end of April. The first one is from last year, and the second one is a side view of me at this year's trip. I still couldn't beleive that was me when I saw the picture. I'd be happy to answer any questions. YOU CAN DO THIS! -
So, Just How Many Times Did You Freak Out Before Gastric Sleeve Surgery!
CowgirlJane replied to CowgirlJane's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks everyone - great responses and discussion. For me personally, I probably SHOULD be worried about the forced change of relationship with food, but I am actually looking forward to that part. I know it will be rough at first, but I want to eat like a normal woman, small quanties and and based on what I need to fuel my body and no more. I probably should be more concerned about the fact that being obese is slowing killing me (I have sleep apnea, early onset arthritis and borderline blood pressure. I have insulin resistance, and will likely become diabetic if I don't get the weight off and keep it off), but there is something about surgery that focuses your worries on a specific event...lol My conscious fears are really surgery and recovery related. I know that MOST people have no major problems, but I guess the thoughts that keep creeping in is what if I am one of the unlucky few that get a leak, a stricture or has a problem during surgery. I realize that my odds of dying on the table are very low,but it is still in the back of my mind. As a revision from the band, I probably have a higher risk of leaks and I know that can be a real recovery nightmare. You are right, I feel great about my surgeon's skills and support, but I know that even so, bad things can happen. I am trying to keep my mine focused on all the benefits of losing weight and becoming healthier. All the sleevers I have met are just so happy with their new life - I keep trying to focus my "eye on the prize" but I do sometimes get a little overwhelmed with the fears. I keep trying to visualize myself 6 months post surgery - alot of weight gone, feeling healthier etc and with NO long term complications. -
Any Eviva LSG Patients? I'm scheduled for 10/22

My revision surgery is October 25 -
I'm almost 3 weeks post op from band revision. Absolutely no complications, however, it was a more painful recovery than lapband 4 yrs ago. It might have something to do with the fact that it took my dr 30 mins to dig my band out of my stomach. Moving onto soft foods in a week (still on full liquids). You'll do fine. Some people say that it doesn't hurt as much as the band. Mine definitely did. Good luck!

I had minimal bruising after my revision, and the leak repair which all happened within 48 hours of each other. I have more scars because I was a revision patient. But, 8 months out, my scars are light pink, no biggie. No one sees me naked other than my husband so it really doesn't bother me. In my opion (and that's all it is), all of the temporary discomfort, bruising and healing time is just that temporary. In the long run, all that becomes an afterthought. At least that has been my experience.

Jeni, A 360 with a vertical incision, my arms and a revised breast lift, no implants. Mine isn't until April 6th. You'll be well on the road to recovery at that point and can tell me all about yours. You'll be alright. I know you're excited. I'm excited for you too!

Starting over after loss of Son
Bandista replied to StarsZie's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi there, western medicine is all about drugs and surgery so it doesn't surprise me they would recommend a revision. It sounds like you know what you need to do and you're doing it now -- recommitting to your health following a horrific time of grief. You have tremendous determination -- I can hear it in your writing. A few days into whatever method you choose -- 5-day pouch test has always sounded interesting to me and many people do periodic liquids to reboot. You can do this and you're not alone. We are here for you. You'll be feeling so much better when you're eating clean and getting some exercise. That should help with the depression. Choose yourself and your health first, above all, and the rest will follow. Best wishes for this coming year! -
If yours did slip, you probably won't feel it at first. Mine happened after I got a hianial hernia almost two years after surgery (that would be 1999). Besides late night acid reflux/indigestion, there was actual pressure on my band. It was excruciating. Getting an Xray confirmed the slippage. My band was on an angle. I got a revision in Sept. 2004, and haven't had reflux since. Please see your doctor to put your mind at ease. Good luck!
