Couch to 5K - Week of 11 ? 17 November

I'm taking it slow and doing week 2 for a second week -
Went back and forth with both Nike and Foot Locker (where I purchased them) and NEITHER were willing to sell one shoe or offer any kind of discount on a new pair. Not going to lie, I was definitely bummed. So I went to Finish Line last week and bought a new pair. Sigh...

Banded 5/2 And Gaining Weight!
Ric replied to Kami172000's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It certainly is discouraging although I didn't have that problem. I have seen several others post the same thing. I was on Liquids for 2 weeks after and then mushy food for an additional 2 weeks and managed to lose another 20 lb during that time. Now after 10 months I find myself going to protein drinks if I gain a few "pounds" and it seems to work. Goodluck -
Are you on Protonix or any other acid medication? it could be a reaction from that I would ask your doctor about it! I am 5 weeks post op and have had a rash around all my incisions the doctor told me it was a allergic reaction to the Dermabond but nothing has helped then I stopped taking my Protonix 4 days ago and it's finally clearing up!

08/09/2012 Surgery Date, Stall Already?!?!?!?
bdarden2010 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello fellow August sleevers... I hope everyone's journey is going well! Up until the last 4 days I was doing great, I've lost 25 lbs so far in my new way of living... but I appear to have stalled....already! I'm doing everything exactly by the book and even walking about an hour a night (about 5 days a week)... ugghhhhhhhhh I know I need to just keep my chin up and it will get better soon...but I just needed a safe environment to gripe! Happy losing everyone! -
Rovobay I too enjoy a bourbon on occasion. You will hear differing comments about alcohol and weather you should or should not partake. It is a personal decision. I waited about 4 months to have a drink. I agree with the focus on weight loss and getting your head in a great place to do this, especially early in the process. But I happen to feel that an occasional drink ( one every couple weeks) is not going to mess me up. I can say that being at goal weight, 9 months post op.

5 Days Post Op - I Got Brave And Got On The Scales 7.1 Lbs Down!
tredwine replied to tredwine's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Way to go Sister!!!! 10 lbs down !!! When was the last time you lost 10 lbs so quickly. What is your plan for the scales, Im thinking twice a week. I cant believe I actually want to weigh, that is just so wierd. Usually I avoid the scales like a plaque. So funny.... Dont worry about eating too much, you cant your stomach wont let you. I found I can eat about 3/4 cup Soup, you got to remember alot of that is liquid so it processes quickly, when you move to the soft foods, your intake will be more limited because our stomach will fill up and hold it longer. Your doing FANTASTIC!!!! -
Logging food & exercise may be the answer......
Missy41 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I'm now just over 3 weeks post op (revision of band to sleeve), in the first 9 days I lost 9 pounds, since then not a darn thing which is pretty frustrating so early on! So having read so much on this forum about "myfitnesspal" I have decided to give it a go and already I feel more in control. I like logging stuff, like my weight graph etc and I hoping that this might help me to focus a bit more on what exactly I'm eating. I haven't logged my food intake since my Slimming World days and it's much more high tech now! Can anyone give me a guide to what Protein, carbs etc I should be aiming for and is it possible to tailor the details on myfitnesspal to this? I have looked but can't find a way. I think I read about 60g protein and 50g carbs, does this sound about right. (I don't have a nut, they are pretty rare around here and my dr only gave me the most basic of info.) Onwards with my journey, I hope that this will end my early stall and get me on my way towards goal again. Just wanted to add that I find this site fascinating and the information & stories very helpful and have become quite addicted -

Crazy itching around incisions.....HELP!
LumpySpacePrincess replied to fccm04's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I remember having terrible itching around my incisions, too. I didn't scratch, but I just kind of ran my fingernail in a circle around the incisions (maybe about 1/4" away from the actual cut) and that seemed to help. Not too much pressure. The itching goes away after about a week or so. -
Hi All, I am scheduled to have my operation in January and it has been a long journey! I have chosen to keep my surgery private from my family and "friends", with only my mum, aunt and best friend knowing. I feel my generation is really critical and judgemental, not to mention the way people change once you've changed for the better so, I feel this would certainly work best. I want advice on EVERYTHING! How have younger people coped post and pre-op? (Teens/Twenties - but we're all young so what the hell) Alcohol intake post-op? (We all deserve some fun!) Loose Skin (if you have or have not experienced any)? What you did to prevent this or what you recommend to avoid loose skin? How soon did you exercise? - I know it's recommended to do 30 mins. Walking post-op in the beginning, but how soon did you start resistance training? As I know this is best to stop excessive skin as well as Protein. What did you take to the hospital? I'm on the low cal pre-op diet for 2 weeks and start on the 30th - What did you do? Post-Op: what is recommended? food wise, mainly the first 2 weeks Please share your thoughts and experiences!

Brand New- Why is it so hard to find UK based info?
catalina_uk replied to Vicksta's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't have any set goals for anything, this is not a race is a lifetime journey. Whatever my stomac is telling me this is what I do. I can't eat that much protein a day or at least not yet. I eat what I am comfortable with, what doesn't hurt me. Tolerance varies from day to day. When I saw my specialist nurse two weeks ago she's asked me if I can eat 8 table spoons of food in one sit. I can't, I can do 6 and she said is fine. Everything takes time. -
Hi Leener , There are bandsters who are vegetarians and do quite well. I dont think long term you have to stick to a low carb diet, but for folks with PCOS, it is generally advised that they do stick to one because typically they are insulin resistant as well. I am assuming that because you are obese that you have made the wrong food choices in the past or have a satiety disorder like the rest of us here? Which means making some changes are a good thing because even being a veggie means that you will have the band to help you with portion control. It will be harder for you to get your Protein, but protein can be found in low fat dairy, Beans, tofu, low fat cheese etc... You will not starve and the most important thing is that you wont be very hungry since the band is a restrictive device that will help you with your portion control. Now regarding complications, yes there are some. I have had a great experience with my band and no problems. I PB very very rarely (less than 10 times in 2.7 years) All ya need to do is chew chew chew. You might have to stay away from some of the fibrous veggies, since they can be stringy and cause you problems. No one knows which foods they will not be able to tolerate. It is trial and error. Regarding the Water, I can still drink water at a pretty rapid rate. I have been tight occasionally where I sound like a drain pipe when I drink too fast, but you should still be able to drink your water without a problem. Thicker drinks do go through more slowly and you will have to be careful to pace yourself. I still love food just as much as before. I now eat foods that I would have never considered before banding. I love veggies now and I especially love fish and wouldnt have touched a piece of tilapia pre banding. Now I eat fish several times a week, love making turkey/ veggie chili with zucchini and 5 different kinds of organic beans etc... You may have to supplement your diet with some Protein shakes or bars since you will need to keep your protein intake high if you want to lose weight. But at the end of the day, it boils down to calories in and calories expended. My advice is to be aware of the pitfalls, problems or complications of lapbanding, but dont become obsessed with the negative. Nothing is perfect and nothing is foolproof. It is a tool and you will get what you put into it. Dont worry dahlinggg...... Babs in TX 334/180 -150 ish

Will I heal? yes Will I become infected? no Will I get pneumonia? no Will it be freaky because there is a freaking device wrapped around my stomach? yes perhaps for a while then you'll get used to it then no. Will I become dehydrated? no Most of us can drink plenty of Water whenever we want. I love water and drink tons! And farther out: Will I pass out from PBing? Depends, I hardly ever PB Will I have terrible pain in my chest like some people? Perhaps, but pay close attention and you'll learn how not to do that and then no. Will I erode? extremely unlikely so no Will complications from erosion in my stomach kill me? I've never heard of that happening. Emotional: Will I enjoy life without my food? You'll learn to love the fact you can have what you want and stop eating before you're gorged. Will I ever be able to enjoy food again? Yes. I eat almost anything I want. You really can eat almost anything if you eat it slow enough. I choose to eat healthy most of the time because I didn't do this to eat cheeseburgers. What will life be like without being able to just drink and eat whenever and however like before? Thinner and healthier. You'll be able to drink anytime except right before and after eating. What will I do with my time without it being centered on eating and cooking? Center on cooking healthy meals that you enjoy. Center on making the foods you enjoy in a more healthful way. Made chicken chili tonight for the first time. YUM! What will I do with my thoughts and emotions that can't be comforted with food anymore?? That's a good one. I'm still working on that. I am finding myself struggling with frustration and slight depression and that's not me. Can't figure out if it's winter blues, PMS, the band thing or all three. I get over pretty quickly (usually when my hubby apologizes whether it's his fault or not.) :puke: I will learn to deal with stress in a different way. I'll have too. But you'll be amazed at how you will be able to deal with losing weight without being afraid of gaining it back. That's a pretty cool one. Good luck to you!!! Hope this helps!

Has anyone else had this happen?
hotdogpriss posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was just wondering if anyone else has had trouble keeping food down?? I had my surgery last november and have had no problems until now! About 3 weeks ago i began throwing up almost everything I eat. Sometimes I can't even keep liquids down. I went to my doctor last week because I was worried, and thought my band may have slipped or something. He has assured me that it hasn't. I am afraid that I am going to get sick because I am not getting enough nutrients. He didn't seemed too worried about it, and I am frustrated!!! Would getting an unfill help?? I have only had 3 fills total.. my last one was over 2 months ago.. I am just worried about gaining weight back. I have worked so hard, and done so well. Any help would be awesome! Thanks -
I know what you mean Michelle about feeling emotional. I have kind of felt emotional since surgery. Maybe because I was trying to numb myself before surgery just to get through it (although I had my crying spurts the day before surgery). I really thought that I would have the buyers remorse right away; enough so that I warned my husband that I would be crying "why did I do this to myself??" to which I instructed him to calm me down and to not panic. I had none of that. I feel so blessed to have come through surgery without complications, to be healing nicely, and to be losing weight. I feel like a new person. I know reality will hit when I have to go back to work in a week and a half (damn hell hole), but for now I am flying high. We really are a blessed bunch of girls, ha? Thanks girls for all of your insight! You have really helped my on my journey. Holly

Has anyone else had this happen?
hotdogpriss replied to hotdogpriss's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I went to the doctor today.. I didn't realize that there were different sized bands..(I'm a dork) I have been seeing posts on here with people saying they have like 8cc in theirs I can't imagine because I only have like 3 in mine and I have been having problems since my last fill! I found out that I only have a 4cc band and it was too tight. My doctor took out 1cc and I was able to eat for the first time in weeks without getting sick! now I am just going to keep my fingers crossed that I still loose and don't gain!!! -
Going in for my first fill.. Scared
BlueMoon~T replied to ChristineZ's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
@@ChristineZ fills are fine a little pinch and that's about it. Does your office use a fluoroscope to do your fills? You're doing awesome with your progress! Now, as far as eating what you are eating now after fills. It will change. You might find some foods don't pass through your band like they do now. You will have to ensure you're taking smaller bites and chew, chew, chew! Fills help you become more in tune with your band. You'll notice you'll get full on a smaller amount of food and you'll stay satisfied for longer periods of time. One caveat, everyone is different. It took me three fills to get to "green". It might just take one for you or several. As long as you are following your surgeons advice you'll continue to do great. Don't worry about your fill. It's really no biggie! Best wishes! -
I'm struggling to get back into the groove after the holidays. Also, I can eat more that one cup of food at a time. I got a fill yesterday so I'm hoping that the two days of mushies will get me back on track. I feel like my biggest problem is that I've gotten away from the three meals a day that helped me lose the first 60lbs and I'm not drinking enough water throughout the day. Why not revert back to the original diet that helped you lose the first 45lbs.? Start with some chicken/tuna salad with some melba rounds for lunch and some lean fishes and chicken for dinner. Keep the carbs down and drink the water. I'm a snacker by nature so it's been hard for me but I'm trying to snack on low fat cheddar and almonds until I can get it under control. BTW...your weightloss is fantastic. I wish we didn't have this struggle. Good luck!

Need help to get back on the band wagon
agentcmc13 replied to Fluffy Jen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been struggling too. i went 2 months without losing anything. then i stuck to the diet for 2 weeks and lost 5 lbs. in two weeks. fortunately and unfortunately i started a new job--great that i started working--bad for the diet. I get to eat for free in the cafeteria where i work, only problem is there are FEW healthy choices. and i find myself eating things i shouldnt eat. its not so much the quantity that i am having trouble with--its the quality. i work from 6a-6p, so its really hard for me to get motivated to get up early to pack a healthy Breakfast and lunch especially since the food is free. i think its a good idea to start the shakes if you havent lost weight in a week--i havent tried it yet. i think i will try it this week. thanks for the idea. good luck with getting a fill!!! -
Some Posts Scare Me I Am Pre Surgery But I Know They Are Real
BBdoodle replied to dfwtxfemme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone tolerates this surgery differently. If you have a good expierenced surgeon you will not have problems etc. I was back to work one week after surgery, I had no complications what so ever, the pain was minimal and that is coming from someone who cannot tolerate any pain what so ever -LOL. And I would do it again in a second. The key is to do exactly what your doctor tells you to do. Take your vitimans, drink you protien, eat what you are supposed to eat and you will be fine. After surgery I was not hungry at all and had to make an effort to eat when I was supposed to eat. You have to work with the surgery, it is not a miracle cure becuase you get out of it what you put in. Only YOU can make it a sucess !!!! -
