I was fine for the first 2 so not understanding this pain dehydration . And neither is my surgeon. I'm scared but I don't want pain any more and I'm sick of people telling me I look gross like an anorexic ! Well I do look like it but I'm not starving on purpose!!! I can promise that! But I just don't know what else to do.. The nose tube plugged after 2 days and Norway I was gonna have surgery every time it clogged! Not easy to put in as it passed my stomach in my duodenum . Hi! I was just sleeved on June 23rd, and My surgeon requires a month of liquids post op (shakes, yogurt, pudding, broth) before moving into soft foods. Well it takes me about an hour to finish a Protein shake now and they all taste so bad (warm) after about 15 minutes! Here's what I've tried so far: Premier Protein Fit frappe chocolate Fit frappe vanilla Any other suggestions?? Ways to get in protein that has worked for you?? Thanks (:

I was thinking that today Maybe I'm not eating enough protein. It's mostly been yogurt, ricotta, and soup. I haven't been having the Optifast bc I'm just so sick of it. I should probably try Muscle Milk or something else.

Good morning everyone! Hope you are doing well. Its been a while since I posted here so let me catch you up on what's been going on. I went for my 5th fill last week, I now have 5.25cc's in a 10cc band. I think I'm getting very close to where I need to be. I have lost 3lbs since last week. I usually lose after a fill anyway because I have to do liquids on the fill day, soft food the next and regular food the next. I have not had a stuck episode or any throwing up (Thank God!) I try to be very careful about chewing and small portions. When i first got my fill (yall may think this is crazy) I timed how long it took for water to go through my band....it took 4 seconds when it used to go right through before.Am I the only one that does this? I stay full longer on less food now. But it's not the 4-5 hours that will signify the green zone. I have been trying different things like greek yogurt and more protein rich foods. Greek yogurt is great and has 14-16 grams of protein depending on the flavor and if I eat it for breakfast, it keeps me until lunch. I think I, like some others, thought that the weight would just fall off after surgery. I have learned that is not the case. I also thought the band would prevent me from eating. That is not the case. I was always told it was a tool and I am convinced of that now. Now when I eat, I take my time and stop at a certain point. If I'm still hungry after a few minutes, I will eat a little more. But most times I find that I'm full. Its hard to tell that when I'm constantly shoving food down my throat. 6/9 will be my 6 month anniversary, and I have lost 47lbs. (weighed 244 this morning) Even though I have been losing slow, I feel better, I look better, I enjoy working out, and I'm in a size 16 comfortably!! Hang in there everyone!!

I am almost 3 months out. My doctor has a food plan of introducing all proteins at 4 weeks, start vegetables at 2 months, potatoes (all varieties) at 4 months, fruits at 6 months and all foods at 1 year. The nutritionist said try some fruits at 2 months as they may be easier to digest vs vegetables however be aware of carbs/sugars etc. A lot of others post here about potatoes and oatmeal a few weeks after surgery. So far all is well but I feel like I am not getting natural vitamin sources with such a limited diet. I do take calcium and bariatric multivitamin. I'm in a rut and stick to a premier shake, yogurt, some meat (protein, tuna, egg) and some limited vegetables like carrots, cauliflower, and broccoli. Is anyone else trying chia seeds? ground flax? fruits this early post op? I asked about nuts and the nutritionist said to try it slowly. When I look at Keto recipes they have a lot of foods I have not tried yet. I am feeling a little overwhelmed so I just stick with my basic foods. I have lost an average of 3 pounds per week form month 2-3 on 600 calories and started at a BMI of 35 so I think I may be losing too fast (I never thought that would be a concern). Any tips?

Mines full liquid, so protein shakes, Greek yogurt, strained soup, cottage cheese, SF jello and ice pops.

For my first few weeks during purree and liquid phases i did alot of protein powder. I got the lemon tea flavor nectar which i mixed with 8 oz of water and each shake is 25 grams. So with 2 i got 50 grams plus 16 oz of water. Also i used unflavored in a blender with fat free yogurt or sugar free chocolate pudding ice and pb2 powder. I could make a shake that was at least 35-40 grams that way. Ill have to try this app see how that works. Thanks.

Does protein bother anyones GI tract?
dolphintattoo replied to dolphintattoo's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It could be the lactose since it's whey protein I suppose, but I eat yogurt, cottege cheese etc... with no problems. I was thinking it could be the sucralose in some of the shakes, I don't really eat a lot fake sugars, but the whey protein powder has none. I just have to get through the next week and I can eat mushies for my protein! -
I am having my surgery on Monday and my dr has only required that I do a diet for 1 week.. it actually isnt even an all liquid diet.. I can have 2 servings of the following: egg, slice toast, bagel, piece of small fruit or yogurt for Breakfast.. then a Protein drink for lunch.. then for dinner 4-6 oz of meat with green vegetable and then another Protein Drink before bed.. I have to drink lots of Water..

3 weeks since conversion surgery: band to sleeve
genepha replied to genepha's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The mental part of weight loss seems to be the most difficult for me mainly due to head hunger. I mostly cook for my family (2 kids ages 5 and 6 and DH) so that makes it hard when I make delicious and tasty food that I am not eating, yet. In addition, I have been on a liquid/puree/mushy diet for over 6 weeks (2 weeks pre-op, 4 weeks post-op) and it's getting boring!! I am trying out new recipes and just made a new one tonight in hopes of helping with the boredom but eggs, yogurt, protein shakes, cottage cheese, etc. are getting ooooollllllddd!! In addition, I faithfully track all of my intake on MFP. This is new for me even though I've had WLS before. I never tracked before and had little knowledge of how much protein, carbs, fat, etc I ate. Now I am keenly aware of everything that I eat, how much exercise I'm getting, as well as, my water intake. I also keep track of my measurements using MFP which helps when my scale hasn't moved in awhile. Good luck to you on your journey! -
I am a week post op and have found when I feel weak I need to drink water! Or eating Greek yogurt and chicken noodle soup (strain the pieces) will help too!
-
Sweet and refreshing... No sugar added Popsicles 25-30cals depending on flavor). Or Healthy Choice frozen Greek yogurt, if you don't mind more calories (100cals/1/2 cup)

You can also mix protein powder into Greek yogurt with a little SF Torani syrup. Tasty.

Room For Veggies/full Feeling Down The Road
bnorms posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 6 weeks out. I keep reading over and over "eat Protein then veggies". I'm sorry but its a struggle just to get the protein in! Absolutely no room for veggies. I'm guessing/hoping this will change over time? I'm worried I'm not eating very healthy. I do take a Vitamin. I have a 30g Protein shake for Breakfast and then try to get the rest of my protein in by eating greek yogurt, string cheese, chicken, sliced turkey, or fish throughout the day. Is that okay? My doctors info discusses fruits/veggies/small amount of grains but there is barely enough room for the protein! I feel content as it is....I just worry about not eating anything but protein type foods. :-/ One more question....for those of you who are a lot further out, does the "normal" feeling of being full eventually return? Right now, I only know I'm full because either I get the hiccups or chest tightness.....not the "thanksgiving full" feeling I had expected to feel. I don't know if it has something to do with the nerves being disturbed during the surgery or what. I'm just curious if I will ever get that standard full feeling I used to get. (and yes, I know we should only be eating until satisfied! I am just wondering!) -
I'm So Gassy And Need Some Tips On How To Get Rid Of It.
CBT replied to Adahlia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Talk to your NUT. You probably need to look closely at foods that cause gas IN YOU. Many ppl become lactose sensitive if not intolerant after VSG. cheese has more lactose than yogurt. Milk is the gassiest offender of dairy. Many carbs can cause gas. Including complex carbs. I have a friend who can not eat granola with out bloat and gas. Then there's the gassy veggies... Make sure you're practicing the basics of chewing and not gulping.... life is a journey, not a destination; so, stop running -H.D. THEROUX -
I use plain greek yogurt, sugar free preserves and honey to make my own high protein breakfast.

@@mommyjamie yes, measure whatever amount you are given as okay to eat. If they won't give you an amount, I would probably stick with a quarter cup max to be safe. I wasn't allowed things like cream of wheat on purees (still am not allowed even 10 mos. out) but when I was on purees it was 3 tablespoons max. Full liquids was just basically sipping constantly because my full liquids was true liquids, not stuff like yogurt, jello, or anything else you would eat with a spoon.

Yeah that's about right. I had the same thing happen. About two weeks out, swelling starts to go down, pain going away, hunger coming on strong. I could eat with out restriction, still had hunger, and didn't know what to do. I drink more protein shakes at -2 a day and tried to keep busy. Willpower is needed at this time. stock up on sugar free pudding and popcicles. Greek yogurt helped too. Some days are harder than others. Good Luck you can do it!

Confessions of a Nervous Bander
NeenBand commented on NeenBand's blog entry in Confessions of a Nervous Bander
*~Otherwise known as "Hopeful One Day, Scared The Next"~* :hungry: Reading through erosion posts, pictures of infections, stories of slippage and removals, I sally forth to my meeting with the Psych doc and nutritionist, with what amounts to this month's rent money in hand to pay for this visit. I don't take this surgery lightly. I was actually able to have this done by a different surgeon back in the Fall. But I needed more time to make sure I was doing the right thing. Let's be honest, going under the knife to be able to lose weight is a huge step, and a serious one. I went to a support group meeting of this other surgeon and I was shocked at how quickly and without real research these people went and had this done. I was asking questions that we discuss here in the meeting none of them had a clue about. That shocked me. I guess for some the promise of being thin is enough. Not me. Yes, I am terrified of the actual surgery, going under anesthesia. (will I be that 1 in 1000 that won't wake up?) but my fears center more on what is going to happen after the surgery. Will I heal? Will I become infected? Will I get pneumonia? Will it be freaky because there is a freaking device wrapped around my stomach? Will I become dehydrated? And farther out: Will I pass out from PBing? Will I have terrible pain in my chest like some people? Will I erode? Will complications from erosion in my stomach kill me? Emotional: Will I enjoy life without my food? Will I ever be able to enjoy food again? What will life be like without being able to just drink and eat whenever and however like before? What will I do with my time without it being centered on eating and cooking? What will I do with my thoughts and emotions that can't be comforted with food anymore?? So, my first hour is with the nutritionist. I am completely overwhelmed and set on edge by this meeting. If the seriousness of this surgery didn't hit me before, then it did now. I am a vegetarian, so getting protein is going to be paramount. The fact that I will have to be on a low carb diet was not what I expected. As a vegetarian, I eat carbs in beans, whole grains, etc. From the food choices I have, it seemed to me that food enjoyment is really going to be out the window. Yogurt, cottage cheese, tofu, protein drinks. And water. That will be my diet. I was prepared for a change, but not this drastic. What unsettled me the most was the water bit. I can hold off drinking at meals, but I guzzle water. ALL DAY. I used to be very athletic and I drank and still drink over a gallon of water a day. And I chug it. When I don't get my gallon in, I feel dehydrated and can actually feel sick. SO this is a real concern for me. I just don't see how I can keep up the levels my body is used to all these years with a sip, sip ,sip sip all day. So coupled with all that I have written above, and the fact that now I am just waiting on a surgery date has me up at night. Am I doing the right thing? Will I be doing my body more harm than being fat if something goes wrong? Anxiety and fear is riding me out. But every once in a while during the day I'll see a woman who is slim and I think "I can be that now. I actually have a chance at achieving that" or see an ad for travel and think "I can vacation now and not be miserable that I am so fat" But most of all this is about getting healthy again. I can feel my body struggling and getting sick with this weight on, and I'm only going to get bigger because I am a food junkie and I have PCOS. To be continued..... -
Last Tuesday I had my second fill - another 1ml. Pre op and post op I had different things I could eat. After surgery I could have soups - purred and strained, and they helped a lot. I was also allowed juice (no sugar added) and I made popsicles out of them. Yogurt on occasion (but I have to limit my dairy)

I can relate and how, I was at my worst the 6 months prior to my surgery I ate myself into oblivion before surgery I had a major crisis happen at the beginning of the year which didnt help but every day was a party I went over 300 lbs which was my delivery weight at 9 months pregnant and left hospital at 275 this time no baby and morphed to 341. Do yourself a favor dont be silly like I was , yes I took the 41 lbs off but had I started at 280 I would be in such a better place now and I beat myself up for giving up on me and allowing that to happen. My excuse was I wont be able to eat again. So I thought , but Im here to tell you different I can eat and sad to say alot, I have to really watch myself and my portions it gets easier each day. I can now eat a whole yogurt when 3 weeks ago I could only do half at a sitting. So try to keep it real dont sabbotage yourself like I did cause yes the weight will come off but you have that much more to loose. Good luck to you, and stay strong

Eating/Drinking/Vitamin Schedule
Daisee68 replied to gigis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@gigis - It definitely is overwhelming! I mix half of a container of low sugar yogurt with 1/2 scoop of vanilla Protein powder on most days which gets me 21g protein and that helps. I am hoping once I can actually eat more dense protein (meats) that it will become much easier to get it all in and not have to do shakes. I asked my nutritionist last week and she said drinking 2 shakes a day at my stage (3 1/2 months) was ok. (I had a set back with a stricture though so I am running a little behind schedule though.) My schedule is even a little more complicated because I have to take Synthroid in the morning and then wait an hour to take anything in PLUS I cannot have calcium (or most other vitamins) within 4 hours of Synthroid, so I feel your pain! I also have kidney stone problem (pre-op) so my endocrinologist took me off my calcium supplements as long as I was eating 2 servings of cheese or milk and 1 Premier Protein shake per day. SO MUCH TO REMEMBER!!
