How often do you go shopping for clothes that fit?
EmeraldCoastPhotog replied to jeremiahsmommy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I haven't been banded yet either. That will happen December 10th. Ten years ago I successfully lost a bunch of weight and was down to size 14. Knowing someday I would get back into those clothes, I put the clothes in boxes. Thats where I plan to do my shopping for a while. Now of course, I don't know if my clothes will be SO out of date 10 years later but... I know I am sure looking forward to finding out! I have friends who have had gastric bypass and they tell me they shopped the Goodwill on their way down the weightloss slide. Then they just donated the clothes back to the Goodwill when they were done. I will definitely look there but I don't know how successful I will be since I am six feet tall. These are all good plans but I have a different lifestyle than I did ten years ago. Then I worked as a Network Engineer, now I am a Mom and have a Photography business. So if I need to look snappy for some particular reason, I'll just have to go purchase something. -

I Cheated.........
Catracks replied to JustShaunda's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a mini Reeses PB cup. scale still said 1 pound down. Seriously, I'm not a gastric bypass patient. I can have a bite of chocolate now and then. Last weekend I had a bite of ice cream. I am NOT, I repeat: I am NOT on a diet. This is my eating for life. Diets fail and eventually you must come off a diet. To say that you'll never have a candy bar again is a sad thing. Just stick to a bite or two. -
Have any of you hear about this procedure...similar to the vertical sleeve..looks lik
Headhunter replied to hot tea's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes, this IS very simliar to the procedure that is being used for people who have been able to STRETCH their pouch out after bypass. Might even be the same device. Just another option on the horizon....pretty neat, actually.....A few years ago, there were practically NO options.....now there are almost TOO many! lol! HH -

no matter what WLS one gets, unless they develop better eating habits and also begin to (exercise to help tone/weight loss) it wont work....granted it may work at the beginning...... my dr wanted me to have the bypass because of my starting BMI/weight and i chose not to....i took responsibility for my eating and my moving and made that change.....he now uses me as an example of what (to do)......a year ago i was having trouble wiping my butt......now i am doing step aerobics... comes down to want power... best of luck in whatever you choose. i feel as others do, i chose wisely for me. -
Tri Care said NO! But have other questions

Tri Care said NO! But have other questions
Tiffykins replied to poohmsg's topic in Insurance & Financing
I questioned how her surgeon was getting a non-covered procedure covered with Tricare after years of it being denied. Our bariatric program has been shut down at our MTF where I had my revision. Every spouse is getting referred off base and the band or bypass are the only allowable surgeries. Congressional complaints, appeals, and all the hoops have been filed and jumped through with zero approvals. We went round and round about it via private message some time last year. I should have recalled the screen name when she posted, but because I quit frequenting this forum, my memory lapsed. And, I was truly hoping it wouldn't be turned into a drama fest of my surgeon got it approved. Other military wives are struggling to get this surgery. It's cloak and dagger stuff, and it saddens me that others have struggled for years, postponed surgery, or had to self-pay because the codes used won't get disclosed. It's all secretive and in my opinion unfair if there is a way to get it covered, yet the information can not be shared unless you go through this particular surgeon. Out of the hundreds of denials, how in the heck is this ONE surgeon getting approvals and getting paid by a government ran insurance program. It really saddens me that this surgeon is not willing to help others in other states get approval. The rules of our insurance is strict enough as it is. IF there is a legal and legitimate way to get VSG covered with a civilian surgeon, it would help 1000s of other military wives/dependents who deserve to have the surgery they need. Like I said, Medicare has approved it, Tricare will follow, hopefully sooner than later. -
Hi, I have had 3 Lapband slips and my doctor is recommending me for a revision to VSG. I just found out that he won't remove the lapband and revise to VSG in one surgery. He does it in two. I can't afford to have 2 separate surgeries. Does anyone know if there are any doctors in the Tampa Bay/St. Petersburg area who will do the Lapband to VSG all on the same day. Please let me know.

Well hello, November. How I've longed to see you.
Mom26 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is next Monday (the 9th). I was originally scheduled for 9/24 but had to be postponed because my stomach was full of ulcers. I have Erosive Gastritis so the lining is wearing away. I cannot wait to have a "normal but smaller" stomach. Hoping the sleeve goes well, but I am prepared if there's too much damage and need bypass. One week left of liquids. I bet this week flies by. Who's with me in November and where is your surgery? What are your feelings as we're now into November? liquid diet stage yet (if required)? I'm at NYU in Manhattan. No time yet though. I'm excited. Liquids since last week, but liquids with one light meal since September because of the ulcers. Good luck to all! -

Symptoms after Gastric sleeve/galbladder surgery MAYBE GERD?

I am assuming the bypass has resolved the issue? -
Hello all! I didn’t see a May thread started yet for bypass. I’m scheduled for RNY May 24, 2022.

My surgeon was using a 48 f and his patients were regaining their weight at 2-3 years out. He uses a 32 f now and this is less of a problem. The regain stats are more in line with the DS and better than bypass and the initial weight loss is similar to bypass. (He's done over 1000 of the things and has been doing them for over 7 years.) Because of that, I wouldn't use a surgeon who was using a boughie over 30 something.

At my pre-op appt on Thursday I asked what size bougie and was told it was a 16 or 18 to make it easier to go down your throat and then it was expanded with air. My surgeon does not oversew as he said he finds the stitches creates more holes and more trama to the tissue. Prior to surgery end he clips off he bottom and closes off the esophagus and pressure tests the sleeve - the pressure is greater than any cough you would have. He has never had a sleeve leak and out of 2500 bypass surgeries he has only had 7 leaks. He is in practice with another surgeon and they perform all surgeries together so you have two attending surgeons from a Center of Excellence and I have met both - one did my initial appt and the other the pre-op. The diet they do is a little more restrictive than I have read on here. Day before surgery is clear fluids as is the week following surgery. The 2nd week is full liquids and the 3rd and 4th week is mushies.

I KNOW I NEED TO CLEAN OUT MY CLOSET BUT
delta_girl replied to mommyradd's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When the 20s got baggy, I went to my closet where I had multiple wardrobes in different sizes. When the 18s got too big, I started on the 16s. At that point I started cleaning out and bagging up. Then I was in 14s, then 12s, which were the smallest size I had. I kept a few tops that were passable, and two skirts that I could pin at the waist. The rest was taken to Goodwill or consignment. At Goodwill I found several pair of higher end name brand capris and pants in size 10. I've been this size for 2 months now (7 months since surgery). I have 2 pr of 8s that are still too tight. I have yet to go clothes shopping. I don't know if this is the size I will be or if I will drop another size. I am afraid to start culling through the looser size 10s. Until you are in the actual predicament, it is impossible to know how that feels, though encouragement is well intentioned and mostly appreciated. So many of us have wired ourselves to negative internal dialogue and the anticipation of failure. This sounds completely nuts, but I feel that I have had some success, but failed to even reach my revised goal. Hoarding or holding on to clothes is both crutch and security. Now my size 10s are feeling like failure. It isn't the specific number printed on the tag. It's that I have been able to cleanse my closet and psyche with each size change. Now that it isn't changing, it feels very different. -
It is a very long story....I got a leak and had surgery to clean it up...They induced a comma.. I was in it for 19 days...I woke up and could no longer walk or move and could not talk because they put a trakia in so I could breath... I got a category 5 ulcer on my butt from the comma and then I was soon moved to another floor...out of ICU ..There they looked after me and I ended up with 10 surgeries altogether as they were trying to repair the leak which would not heal.....Finally after 4 and a 1/2 months when everything else failed I had a surgery where they gave me both the sleeve and bypass......I had to lean to walk and talk and write again.....I have 12 incisions where most people have 2-5....I am still being treated for the ulcer on my butt almost 11 months later I lost all my hair as I was fed by IV for 5 months...and nobody told me I did until I saw it in the mirror at home....They even had to reteach me how to eat and swallow....I became addicted to pain killers and a detox Doc helped me through that..... This is just a small overview of some of the things that I went through..... But!!!!!!!!! I would do it all over again if I had to..I am so much better then I was before surgery....i can do so much more and the little things make all of it worth it for me....

May 5th.. Any surgery twins? Some concerns
nurse_lindsaymae09 replied to nurse_lindsaymae09's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
That's crazy! See I was told only bypass patients had dumping syndrome? Good to know they want you avoiding sugar due to calories but maybe because are stomachs are so traumatized right now it couldn't digest all that. I am super hungry though I haven't felt full yet. What are some things you've been eating?? -
I have decided that I want to have RYN bypass and I have set up an appointment for my free seminar 01/08. I have my primary physician behind me a 110%. I just want to know what all else you have to go through before you get your surgery date?

To Tell or Not to Tell?
Fatty McFatster replied to ellie123's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I will be doing the band to sleeve revision and I can say that I told too many people about the lap band. I guess I just believed everyone would be supportive, but now I know that's not the case. I received some support, but also quite a few rude comments. This time around I will be telling a lot fewer people about the sleeve. -
Hi! I was originally denied through my insurance for a revision. However I think I have found the best way to do RNY. I will have to be self pay to remove my band, then start the consultation for RNY! My policy states that a repeat surgery will be paid for if patient was compliant with first surgery! Has anyone had a similar situation to this?

Hello All! Did anyone NOT give up coffee after gastric bypass surgery? My intentions are to give it up prior so I get the headaches out of the way before surgery, but was wondering if anyone had stories of NOT giving up coffee. Thanks!

The day after my gastric bypass I had to go back to the ER due to SEVERE pain. After hours in the ER with signs of shock I was transferred to another hospital and had emergency surgery due to an intestinal blockage secondary to intestinal adhesions from a previous surgery I had YEARS ago. I'm just glad my surgeon saved my life because I almost lost it that day. Another blockage or adhesion can happen at any time because I've had previous abdominal surgeries, the GB had nothing to do with the blockage.

You Should Not Consider Bariatric Surgery if..
ribearty replied to No game's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
While I am new with the sleeve, I had a lap band for 6 + years which makes me a revision patient. When I had my band put in, I never thought it would have to come out. I planned on being a one time wls patient. I am so fortunate to have gotten a second chance. This has to wok for me for several reasons: because my insurance company only pays for one surgery unless there is a device failure or complication related to the surgery. Since I am a revision patient, I have the baggage of knowing that one surgery didn't work already, I am over 50 post menopausal revision patients tend to not lose as quickly as a virgin wls patient. I believe I have the right mind set and this will work. In my opinion it seems many people think I had wls, I am guaranteed to lose weight. I can continue to eat what I ate before but in smaller amounts. It amazes me when people are posting how they are eating foods too early. As a previous poster said if following their own opinion worked, why did they have to resort to WLS? I guess I fall into the mean category when I post replies to people on these type of topics of eating too soon. I tend to get a lot of flack. I am not perfect with my eating and do not profess to be. As Butter said during the honeymoon period it is easier. This is the time to make good choices and install the healthy eating habits that can get you to your goal at the end. WLS is not a magic wand or pill you can take and it automatically happens. It requires hard work and once you get to goal, then the works begins to stay there. As all of us have been on diets before and lost weight, you know the major reason we regained the weight and probably more is because we didn't maintain healthy eating habits and possibly quit exercising. I am off my soap box now.
