  1. I got my third fill on Friday July 1st. I'm up to 3 ccs in a 4 cc band. I've never noticed much of a problem in my prior fills with some issues I'm having now. I'm burping a lot. A LOT. When I'm hungry I feel sick, my stomach hurts. I ate something with some pepper (black pepper) on it (I shook a little on) and I got a burning sensation in my stomach. I pureed some chili....way to spicy. Then yesterday I tried having a little spagetti sauce (out of the jar, not homemade and not spicy) and again, the burning sensation. Also, the heat of food, like Soup, seems irritatig. Cold things feel better. I've had some trouble eating....but I see steady improvement little by little. I can eat a very smooshed up boiled egg with a little mayo and some potted chicken as well as the mushies. I can only eat about a 1/4 cup at a time of anything. My doc is out of town til tomorrow. I've talked to his coordinator at his office last Thursday and she told me to call her this am to let her know how I'm doing and if I want to come in. I'm wondering what erosion feels like. Anyone know? I've lost about 10 lbs in the last week...which feels good, but i'm a little worried about my band.
  2. Ok I ate way too much this weekend! Saturday was my 42nd birthday and boy did I celebrate! Friday The girls at work got me a pepperoni pizza, cake and Ice cream. I ate everything. 2 pices of pizza, large piece of cake and 2 scoops of ice cream. YUMMMMMM. Then Friday night My friends took me out for Mexican food (My favorite) 3 enchaladas, beans and rice and of course chips and salsa. I was good as I didn't have anything to drink with dinner. Saturday My family also took me out for Mexican food. ate the same as Friday night. I also had double stuffed oreos and a Ice cream cake from Dairy Queen! See I told you I was bad! Today I did very good! woke up at 4:30a.m. excercised then Had all the right foods today. I am back on the right track. Good thing Birthdays only come once a year!!!!

    Not Hungry Today

Is it normal to just not be hungry? I ate a small salad with about 2 oz grilled chicken today and that is all. I've debated whether my band is too tight, but I can eat just fine when I do eat. How often should I be hungry if I am in the 'green' zone? Its not everyday I am like this- only once or twice a week.

    Blood Sugar Drop

Had same problem but it was actually my iron and water intake. I was getting light headed. Also make sued you are getting enough protein too. Good luck ( I still go through this about two weeks after an adjustment than I feel good again) I just need to concentrate on what I need.

OMG! I just bought size 14 pair of pants!! WooHoo

I was banded 2.25.08. I have a slow weight loss, but then 4 pounds this week...I'm hoping I'm going to continue losing at a higher rate for at least a few weeks...LOL Good Luck to You

    plateau...already..is that even possible?

NOT a plateau. A plateau is a much longer period with no weight loss. Obviously, you cannot possibly continue losing 2 pounds a day. 1-2 pounds a week is what you should expect.
  7. I had surgery on April 6th (or last monday), prior to surgery I was losing about 2lbs a day on the liquid diet. After surgery I was still losing about 2lbs a day...when I got up to 15lbs it seemed like it was going to start slowing down...i lost 1 more pound the following day and that has been it. I have lost a total of 16lbs...but it has stalled for 2days...i'm starting to move on to more solid foods today (scrambled eggs, baked potatoes etc.). Does this mean I have plateaued already? Or does it mean I will start gaining the weight that I lost back with the new addition of scrambled eggs? I'm happy for what I have lost and i know at some point it slows down...is this my slow down? has anyone else experienced this? (I'm sure someone has)
  8. I have been told this in normal. I know it's what has happened to me. I am doing about a 1lb a week. Got my first fill yesterday and I had lost 1lb since a follow up last Mon. I think the "bad" guy in mushy foods is the dang potatoe. Most of us go for that as a good food to start with but it is a bad guy to me. The eggs are a good protein source. Things change as the body heals so don't worry to much right now. You just follow what the doc told you to do and you will be fine.

    Banded 11/02/07

Hi Jill, I think my doctor had me on the pretty standard diet. It was all Clear Liquids for the first week. The second week I could add creamy Soups, sugar free Jello pudding, and cream of wheat. The third I was able to add soft scrambled eggs, liverswurst, string cheese, oatmeal, fish as long as it was soft and moist. He also said that I could eat meats as long as they were pureed. I skipped that offer. As a meat lover I found that it offended my senses. The fourth week I added vegetarian sausages to my diet just so that I could have the taste of meat without actually having the calories or fat that go along with it. Morning Star Breakfast patties are great, they have 10 grams of Protein each and they are only 80 calories each. But now I'm back up to regular foods and everything seems to be going fine.
  10. My gas pain was HORRIBLE the first week after surgery, but I thought it went away. Usually at night I have these heavy pains in my LOWER stomach, it changes depending on where I lay. I have posted about it before - but I have had to come to the conclusion that this HAS to been gas. Is it possible that it's 'trapped' gas three weeks out? If it was in my digestive system it usually moves out when I lay on my left side but it isn't going anywhere and I've had it for almost three days straight now. Think it still could be? Think it could be something else? All ideas welcome.

    Insurance Question...

So....I am at a 40.0 bmi right now exactly. My insurance pays for lap band at a 40.0, ir 35 with 2 co morbidities, and I only have 1. Okay fine, so I qualify because I am at 40.0 bmi great. But they also require a 6 month diet which I am just starting... There is no doubt I will lose at least 3 lbs, and drop below 40.0 bmi since I am barely there to start. This would mean I will not be eligible for surgery, correct? So why even start this process! So frustrated. This happen to anyone else?

    gas, gas, and more gas

Hi everyone, I was banded on 10/9/08 and have been suffering with gas since. I have tried gas-x with no relief. I have also tried some teas. In the last 3 days I have gotten a sharp pain on the side of my left shoulder. I think it is gas. It only seems to come when my stomach is feeling empty. I am eating mushies and it seems to subside after I eat, but whenever I am near the 3 hour mark, it starts. It is driving me crazy, and is very uncomfortable/painful. Any suggestions... Please help:crying:

2 weeks Post surgery amusement park trip

When I had my GB surgery, the only restriction I had was no heavy lifting (> 25 pounds) for six weeks. This was the same restriction I had for the banding and it was provided by 2 different surgeons. Since both are abdominal surgery, it makes sense. Call your surgeon, I'm sure he/she will be fine with the rides. HAVE FUN!!!
  15. Two weeks ago I had my gall bladder out (well, almost 2 weeks) and I have a planned trip to 6 Flags tomorrow. I have 4 incisions that kind of look mostly healed. Should I avoid the really fun stuff like the twisty side-to-side things like the tilt-a-whirl/round-up or just stick to the "family" stuff like carousel level. I don't like rollercoasters, so that's not an issue. I'm half way between the gall bladder surgery and the band surgery and need to use the tickets or give up on them for the season. But I also don't really want to hurt myself by imposing strong forces on a still healing body. Has anybody gone ahead and done modestly physically demanding activities in that timeframe? Many thanks for any input!

    Should I wait?

I say unfill NOW. A few weeks ago I was taken from 2.5cc to 3.0cc. Long story short that was too much and what would normally be "nothing", or "PB, end of story" became - as a result of irritation and swelling - being blocked off completely, to the point that even my own saliva couldn't pass and I was having to PB every 4 or 5 minutes just from swallowing. You don't want to be there. "Choking in the middle of the night" sounds like acid reflux. The same day that I was PBing saliva, I called for an unfill. They actually praised me for coming in, saying that some people go weeks and months like that. My rationale - it's better to go for an unfill, because I can always get more fill put in later, than be too tight and have increased risk of erosion and slips.

    Meeting with Dr. Marsden tomorrow

I was banded by Dr. Marsden Sept '06 and he is wonderful! If I remember correctly it is high protein and then within a few days of surgery it is mostly liquid to get shrink the fat on your liver so he can get the band on. But you only have to follow it for approx 2 weeks prior. He is awesome and will take the time to answer all of your questions and concerns.
  20. I’ve now lost 61 pounds and beginning to notice something new! It appears that I’m once again on a normal monthly cycle!!!! I had a hysterectomy in 2000 and kept my ovaries, so basically I can go through a regular full cycle – just no period. For the last ten years that “normal” cycle only happens about every 3-4 months. Now for the last 3 months, it’s been happening every month! Breast tenderness, cravings, hunger for no reason, slight water retention and worst of all PMS! I’m 49 and just figured for the last 10 years I was that all favorite word of premenopausal……. Has anyone else noticed a difference in their monthly cycle after losing a large amount of weight?
  21. Hi y'all, I am one month post op and going for my first fill next week. Till now I have been able to eat anything as long as I chew it well. I have not thrown up or PB'd once yet. My question is will that change after my first fill? I know I won't be able to eat the sane quantities that I an eating now, but will the foods I am able to eat change? Thanks,
  22. went to weight loss doctor today and gain 2 pounds. I watch everything I eat any help I would be appreciated.
  23. My calorie intake was up to about 1000 cal a day within a couple of weeks of being banded. I now eat 1200 - 1300 cal a day. Please don't be alarmed if you gain a little when you increase your calories. That is normal and the weight will start to drop again. Your body needs to adjust when you make changes like that. I was lucky and it didn't happen to me but I was only on liquids for 2 days and then mushies for 4 weeks (probably only 3 weeks) and my calories increased quickly so my body never really adjusted to the super low calories. As a matter of fact my body didn't like that one little bit and I don't lose much my first week. Good luck!

    1 Week Post Surgery

Hey there, congratulations on being a week out! Glad you are feeling better and getting ready for the next stage. My protocol was full liquids and the surgeon described those as anything that would slide off a plate turned on its side. Check in with your medical peeps to see what they have in mind as post-op instructions and food plans vary so widely. I enjoyed potato leek Soup, miso soup, and egg drop soup -- but eggs may not be recommended by your particular surgeon so do check. Best wishes!
