    Pre-op diet

I’m over half way through 2 weeks. I found that sipping every 3 minutes (like they say for post) is helping me through it. Never hungry. Over 100 oz a day. Craving only cocktail onions. Only thing off diet has been a tsp of diluted apple cider vinegar.
  2. Yeah, I've tried three different brands. They said I could take the flinstones, but I only find the chewables, and I want a pill

    IS THIS NORMAL?

About the first week , I could only do small sips because of my esophagus being stretched and it was "extremely narrow" according to my surgeon. Drinking didn't bother my stomach but it hurt my throat. After about a week I was drinking pretty normal but could not take huge gulps, if would feel like I was swallowing a hard lump of something. Now, 7 weeks out, I can drink a lot and fast. I wouldn't say I chug like before surgery but I can definitely get water down quick. Before I had surgery I just kept reading "sip, sip, sip" and I was worried I would never be able to drink normal again but that was short lived and I was back to normal in no time.

    Newby to group

Hi there, I've had my sleeve surgery on 29/04. I was so scared but after the operation I was good. I struggled to get water down after operation. This Friday it would be two weeks and I cannot wait to start eating healthy food. Miss chewing. Anyone else on here from Melbourne, Australia? Sent from my SM-G998B using BariatricPal mobile app

I think it was about vitamins. Not taking them 1 week before surgery.

    Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first

I'm only a week out, but I was taken off all my diabetes and blood pressure meds the day I had my surgery, and I have to check both twice a day now to watch for any indication I need them back. As of today, literally 20 minutes ago, my blood sugar is 119 and my blood pressure is 128/76!!!!!!!!! So it looks like I'm holding steady completely off those 3 meds!!!!! Massive happy dance going on here I have been on blood pressure meds since 2010 and diabetes meds since 2009. This is AMAZING!!!!!

    Dumping?!

From what I've read, only about 30% of bypass patients and very few sleeve patients dump. Usually on sugar but also on high fat foods, for some people. From what I can tell, it's best to eat "new" foods at home the first time in case they don't agree with your new tiny tummy (this is true even if you don't dump - some things can make you throw up: I ate some dry chicken a few weeks after surgery and threw up!). If I were you, I'd be very careful with what I ate when out of the house, and "experiment" more when I was near my own bathroom!

    Dumping?!

So I want to know more about this dumping thing. When I was getting ready for surgery my doctor never mentioned anything about it, and none of the information he gave mentioned it either. A couple months before my surgery I started reading about it in forums like this one, and it seems like an awfully major thing to not mention. So I brought it up to the some of my doctor's nurses and all I got was cagey non-answers. So I had the surgery, doing pretty good, getting in the protein and water groove and lost 45 pounds in 5 weeks. BUT I'm sacred to death of dumping and this casts a shadow over trying anything new. I ate 4 cherries the other day because they were so good, but I worried the whole time because someone on this site said they dumped on cantalope. I was fine with the cherries, btw. I'm worried that I may be at work or awya from home and have a bout of dumping which would be really bad. What I want to know is: 1. Do ALL gastic bypass patients dump? 2. What is the riskiest thing to eat: sugary things (including fruit) or oily stuff? 3. What if you were away from home and dumped? Has anyone experienced this? I'm not planning to binge on sweets or grease, I'm happy with my wait loss and want to continue it. I just want some answers so I don't continue to be so fearful about eating. Thanks for any imput!!
  11. Me too - really noticed this over the last couple of weeks - I thought there was something wrong with my office chair! Also bath sheet wrapping around me completely with an overlap. And the tiniest sliver of light between my mid-thighs even when I press my legs together. Amazing what encourages people, isn't it?
  12. They really can be amazingly different. I wasn't even asked to stick to only liquids - I was allowed 800 calories in whatever form I wanted for 2 weeks and then I think a liquid/low residue diet for a couple of days beforehand (hard to remember now!) Good luck - some people find it really tough, I was fine with it because I was all 'eyes on the prize' after my surgery was cancelled 2 months previously.
  13. Actually, because I was dealing with a lot of hunger, my surgical center said it would be okay for me to eat plain, non-starchy veggies between meals, but because of my travel (and also my dental issues!) I have had a lot of trouble doing that. It's been drilled into me so well not to graze, so I think I've just been eating a lot at meals (Not A LOT, just ... maybe 3 oz of meat, 3 oz of veg, but it still hurts, especially fruit and salad, which I love). I am going to try to slow down some more, see if that helps. The other thing I'm struggling with is how nauseous I get from my multivitamin. I would say about once a fortnight I will actually throw up. I've tried three different brands, and the best I've found is to take it with a heavy snack before bed. This week it's been low sugar trail mix, which I never ate before surgery, but seems to work well for me now.

    TMI question 🙋‍♀️

Currently 4 days post op. I immediately began taking a stool softener once home from the hospital. I took one with each shake and had 2 BMs on day 2 post op and another one today on day 4. I'm also adding Benefiber to my morning water. I'm actually surprised I didn't have issues with constipation because historically I do. My gastro had me on Miralax daily before surgery which I plan to resume at the two week post op point unless I need it sooner.

I just saw this comment. What is it that your surgeon says to start the week before surgery?

    Gallbladder removal post vsg

Thank you everyone! I was prescribed ursidol but unfortunately that had some unpleasant side effects for me so stopped taking it after three months. I'm 7 months post op now. Thank you for your input!

My surgeon's office recommends to start the week before surgery because will not be able to take them the 1st week or 2 after surgery while our stomach's are healing.

I've been on my pre-op liquid diet for almost a week now and while it's not the easiest thing in the world I'm using this exact mindset. Glad to hear your surgery went well!

I started the Bariatric advantage calcium chews last week and I tried to start the Ultra solo with iron but it made me throw up. I ordered the chewable version which showed up yesterday and after reading on some reddit threads for Gastric Bypass I split it in half (it's a large tablet) I had half with my mid day shake and half with my 3rd shake of the day. My surgery is on the 12th, so just 2 days away

    May Surgery Buddies

I'm feeling very good. I never had gas which was surprising. My pain was managed very well. 1 week is plenty of time off (office) work. Being on full liquids really opened my food opportunity. I think I am an exception to the rule with how well I am doing.

    May Surgery Buddies

I decided to try mostly liquid diet for this week to see how it feels and if i can do it. My doc gave me a 1200 - 1400 cal diet low carb high protein to follow, I started feeling like I was eating too much bulk. Hope I can do this !~!

I just took the normal one a day. I had to stop all vitamins and minerals 1 week before surgery. Make sure to get your protein drinks in.

    Slider foods and dumping

I had a similar issue with some stewed beef about 6-8 weeks out from surgery. I could tell immediately that my body wanted nothing to do with it. I am sure that I could eat it now.

    Slider foods and dumping

Sounds too risky for me. HAHA I had heard some serious horror stories. So far, I don't have any cravings so I am not too worried about it for now, it is easy to just not eat it. I am sure that will change though, I never really craved sugary things before surgery either. I have always been more of a salty/carb girl. I ate a TINY BITE of pit beef that didn't agree with me at all and I was sick for a solid 12 hrs. It was horrible, I couldn't imagine what dumping is like. My NUT just told me to continue to try new foods and watch sugar and fat. Try one at a time so you know what your body doesn't agree with and then I can try again in a few weeks or months. Sometimes some things take longer than others. So far, the pit beef was the only thing I have had an issue with.

    Help! I need advice!

I just think you are thinking that you are going to be incapacitated after the surgery which is most likely not going to be the case. Most people need a week or two at the most and are up and around. Should you be picking up small children? NO. But you are not going to be bed ridden and not be able to do most of the things you do now after a week or so.
