I'm about 10 months out: Calorie Range: 600-800cals/day (losing phase) Protein: 60-74g Carbs:<20g net Fat: around 35g

Is this correct? Standards for carbs and proteins as per dietitian....
LumpySpacePrincess replied to natalie_christin's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Not counting calories is where I completely disagree with your dietician to a point. Calories absolutely do matter, and the lower you can keep them the more you will lose. However, if you are eating 80g of LEAN Protein per day and keeping under 30 net carbs coming from non-starchy veggies, your calories should still be fairly low. That is, if you don't add in other things like sauces, dressings, cheeses, etc to what you are eating. I say this not just as someone who is very strict with themselves, but someone who has charted weight for a group of women who had the sleeve at the same time I did last year. There are six of us who all started out at approximately the same weight, are within a 10 year age range (none of us over 40), and had the same co-morbidities before surgery. Three of us counted calories while the other three based their diets solely on counting carbs and protein. Out of the three of us who were restrictive, I was the most restrictive, never eating more than 800 calories in one day and averaging 75g of protein and only 30g net carbs from non-starchy sources. The results: those of us who counted calories and kept them low lost more weight over our counterparts who did not watch calories. Out of the three of us who did watch calories, I lost the most. One year out, I am only 6 pounds from my goal weight, while the other two who were restrictive with calories are 25 and 34 pounds away from goal. Those who only counted protein and carbs and did not restrict calories still have an average of 75 pounds of weight to lose (+/-15 pounds). Calories absolutely DO matter, and if you are not losing it is probably because your calories are too high. You are NOT eating enough protein, and you are NOT eating frequently enough. If you are having trouble eating because you fear gaining the weight, you might need to seek counselling for a disorder called Post-Surgical Eating Avoidance Disorder. It is more common than people in the WLS community want to talk about. Otherwise, it shouldn't be that hard at your stage to squeeze in 75g of protein for less than 400 calories per day, and you can fill the other 400 with low-carb items such as vegetables, a little bit of good fat, etc. You don't have to eat six times per day, but you need to eat frequently enough to get your baseline protein. Hope this helps! -
Premier Protein Shakes.........
CheleLynn45 replied to CheleLynn45's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I would go buy two more cases during the sale and return them with your original receipt. They will be unopened and costco takes back everything. $10 bucks is $10 bucks!! LOL -
I wanted to be an Aussie size 12 (a US 8-10) and about 60- 65kg (132lbs- 142lbs) I ended up an Aussie 6 (like a 2 or a 4 in the US) and 49-50kg (107 ish lbs) At 164cm, my current weight is well within the "normal & healthy" range.

Hey all, I'm 5'5" and 260lbs. My goal is 150, and once I reach that, maybe another goal of 130 :biggrin2: I would like to be an 8...maybe 10. and in my wildest dreams a 6. but i would be extreemly happy at a 8/10. I would like to lose 100lbs in a year.

salsa1877, :Hi ! I would love to know what have you been eating and what type of activity are you doing? I had my surgery on 10/8/07 and have lost 30lbs. I don't think I am eating enough or maybe not the right foods. For instance forr breakfast I had a bowl of life cereal, lunch I had baked tortilla chips and picante sauce. Dinner was a 1/2 order of a chicken and mashed potatoes dish from 54th street restaurant. I try to walk at least every other day. What do you think?

How many of you drink coffee?
Melinco replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon okays coffee, even with real cream. He says he drinks coffee and understands the need for it, and doesn't poo poo it. I usually drink two cups a day in the morning, sometimes three if it's a rough day. I'll have iced tea in the afternoon, sometimes. But I also get in all of my water, and my meals. I usually will drink my coffee before I eat my breakfast. If I need that extra cup, I have it around 10 am, which is usually an hour after I've eaten breakfast. I was never told to go decaf. As usual, follow your doctor's guidelines. -
Drinking From A Straw???
maryfran replied to cindroo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They suggest that you don't drink from a straw because when you suck the straw the first thing you get before the drink is air. Alot of people have trouble because the air bubble gets stuck same with chewing gum you take in alot of air. Now I'm 10 months out and I can do both. So take it easy to start and see how you do....good luck -
I am preop and preparing for my grocery list and favorite variety of protein shakes. I am going to spend the next 10 days trying different ones. I start my preop liquid diet July 25. So far I have tried muscle milk. I can live with that one. I want a variety as I get bored easily. I will try the one from Costco everyone is talking about. Please feel free to keep recommending drinks. This is going to be a long 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after!

I haven't posted in a while. I used to find these kinds of videos really helpful, so I decided to chronicle my own journey through this process. Here's my 10 month update-- I've now lost over 100 pounds! I also included some before and after pics!

Sleep Apnea c-pap/bi-pap
puttingme1st replied to tleg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved 10/22 and took my bipap with me. I did have gas, but I don't think any extra than I would have. Can't wait to be off my machine! -
yeah! I try to just scratch around it. I'm too scared to remove any steristrip or scratch right on the incision yikes. Around my one big incision, I bruised horribly, I mean so dark purple its almost black. My nurse told me to break open a vitamin E gelpill and rub it on there. I have heard of that before. I went ahead and got some and am trying it. My stomach has looked like a warzone with all the bruises! I was on 10 days post-op lovenox shots in the belly, so I have little (and some big) bruises all over my lower belly "roll" lol. Plus my incisions, plus the bruising around those. Oh yeah and a big hole where the drain was. Warzone.. I'm telling ya. Did you guys all take pics of your bellies as you were healing? I've been taking pics, though I don't know if I'll ever show anyone. lol...

What's normal eating post surgery ??
AZLoser replied to comtngirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
It may help to go to a WLS hospital support group in your area so you can ask questions and hear how others eat. To be successful you really do have to change your eating habits dramatically for a long time. That is more difficult psychologically than some people realize. Once your healed and a few months out you'll be able to digest anything so it's not a matter of whether you can eat something but how you can fit it into your plan. The first few months are hard if your not prepared for the amount of restriction. It's easier with time. Now I feel in control of my eating and don't want to go back to my old ways. I'm 10 months post op and down almost 80 lbs. -
One week out. What I miss most may surprise you.
A Sharp 1 replied to itstime4me123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was a huge water gulper' and ironically that was my biggest concern! I'm on Day 19 and starting to drink more! -
Sublingual (flavoured) vitamins. My B12 is sublingual cherry. My Iron is sublingual grape. My Centrum Multivitamin Men's 50+ is blueberry but not sublingual. SUBLINGUAL = under the tongue. i.e. stick it in your mouth and it melts under your tongue is 10-25 seconds. Some brands of sublingual vitamins use the TRADEMARK "Rapimelt". Rapid melting!

Hey I've been looking for a place to post this, I almost put it in the post surgery 💩forum but I am still before surgery and I want to kinda whine, I am on Day#10 of a whole month liver-shrink diet. I am having 💩problems to be honest. My Stoll doesn't like leaving me, Oh it isn't what I would call constipation, I always heard that way hard textured and this isn't hard. I'm on 1000 calorie,100 gram protein,70 grams carb diet. Maybe it's that my colon muscles are 72 years old, maybe it isn't as firm as it once was and my muscles can't get a Firm hold, but it aches and I have sit there for not all spectacular results. The last few days I've resorted to Miralax, maybe a little help? My preconceived notion was I would have diarrhea , nope hasn't happened, am I worrying for nothing? I had more defecation fun when I was eating at will, but I do want and need this surgery. Is this common?

Welcome KristyLee!! Just 10 days and you will have your band. This is a great site and you will love it!!! Keep reading and asking questions. All of the tips, advice, and support I received here on LBT helped me to be so much more comfortable the morning of my surgery. And I have made some really good friends here too. It is so nice to talk with, and read about, people who know exactly how you feel and what you are going through. Good luck with your pre-op diet and your surgery. Take care, keep in touch, and let me know if I can do anything to help you. Becky

I'm getting banded Jan 16th too, I'm on est in NW NC. I have to be at the hospital at 5:30AM and it's 1 1/2hr away at Frye Medical Center in Hickory. Odd about doctors, my 10-day pre-op diet doesn't start until tomorrow 1/6/08 but I got stocked up on stuff today. I love Diet V8 Splash berry Blend.

Hello everyone. I'm from Easton, Pennsylvania and I'm scheduled for my banding on 10/28. I've been looking around the forum it it looks great. Everyone seems very supportive. I'm very, very excited. I start my liquid diet in 3 days. It's starting to seem a little scary. Everything I'm going through I'm sure everyone else has too. It'll be great to hear other experiences with the banding. Can't wait! :w00t:

I know several people who have experienced success with the lapband and not had any problems. My sister has had her band for 10+ years and lost over 100 pounds and has maintained the loss. Work with your health care team and be honest with yourself about your ability to be compliant with any surgery. I now have the band and I'm losing 10 pounds a month. I'm happy with this and knew going in my loses will be slower, which I wanted. Slow and steady. Banded 10/12/16 -
Hi Everyone! I'm Michelle and I will be getting my surgery in the morning(10/9). I'm excited and yet "Am I really doing this?" at the same time. Best wishes to all of you on your new journeys.
