Did anyone have a significantly elevated heart rate post-op? If so, when did it normalize, did they ever find out why? I had my revision surgery on Thursday, October 24, 2019. It ended up being more complicated than anticipated, my band was slipped (I told them!!) all the way around my esophagus with the top of my stomach incarcerated in the band and a significant amount of scar tissue. My revision was anticipated to take 2 hours and ended up taking over 4 hours. As soon as I went under anesthesia (before even cutting) my resting heart rate went into the 130s and stayed elevated. During my stay they had me on metoprolol to bring it down, which it did, but still in the high range. Since I have been home, my resting heart rate is about 110 and walking the stairs, scooping protein powder into a shaker, walking to the bathroom, has it shooting as high as 147 with me instantly feeling drained of all energy. I have also had low grade fevers around 99.5. My surgeon's office sent me to the ER today and I had an EKG, CT scan, and labwork showing nothing of significance. The ER doc was trying to sell me on some people's resting heart rates normally stay at 110, which I know mine is usually in the 60s. He then said it could be mild dehydration or just left over adrenaline. My blood pressure is normal, so I couldn't be sent home on beta blockers to try and help with the heart rate again. I did have 2 abnormalities on my EKG pre-op that no one seemed concerned about. I know time will tell, I just know when my heart rate goes into the 130/140s I feel tired beyond just normal surgery tired. I'm trying to get even more water down to see if that helps. I'm just hoping someone else might have some experience with this. Thank you so much for any advice or experiences you give!

I'm having the gastric bypass done. My surgery is Nov 4 and my full liquid diet started today. Sent from my cp3705A using BariatricPal mobile app -
I was sleeved on April 29 and tomorrow will be 6 months. I am down 100lbs to a weight I have not seen in over 10 years. Its really been quite effortless so far but the last month things have slowed. I still make poor choices and I dont suspect that will ever change but quantity is tiny and I generally think I have retrained my brain as to how much food to eat for meals. Ive achieved these results with basically zero exercise. I am not proud of that and I do think in order to get to the goal weight I am going to have to be more active. For now the goal is 225 but I do expect I will revise that lower.

How long did it take for your insurance to approve ?
SorryNameTaken replied to Empress jade's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Less than 24 hours for my revision, but she called and gave the majority of my information on the phone and then faxed in the rest to back up their phone call. It was significantly longer for my band surgery, but I was denied for that once or twice. -
That sounds awesome! I’m 5 days post bypass and all I can think of is chewing!

I can eat meat, vegetables, salad. I am drinking plenty of water. I confess I have had rice and a bit of pasta. I did an insane workout and was kinda weak, that’s why I grabbed a bit of the pasta. I’m 5’4”(lost inches and 152 this morning. Such slow weightloss..kinda wishing I had the bypass -
So I've really been struggling with wanting more and more food (even if I've just eaten) and my ability to deny myself is just not there right now. I talked to my PA at my surgeons office and she prescribed Contrave, to help with feeling more satisfied with what I eat and less cravings. It was way too expensive so we went with a compound pharmacy. Still expensive but I'm willing to pay it for a couple of months if it will help. I started it last week, at one capsule daily. Beginning tomorrow, I will take two daily, The week after, I will take two in the morning and one at night then the next week go to two in the morning and two at night. Thats a lot of pills! I just bought a pill organizer from Amazon. I've tried weight loss pills and shots in the past, pre-sleeve, and had very little success with them. Generally, its not my appetite that is the problem - I have never had to be hungry to eat. So, when my PA asked how I felt about taking something to help with cravings and feeling more satisfied with what I eat, there was a moment when I nearly said no, no more weight loss pills. But I didn't take the extreme step of surgery only to still be a slave to food. So I said yes and that is why I'm willing to pay for these pills if there is a chance they will work. I should mention that I allowed sugary sweets back into my life a few months back and I'm now back to being a complete sugar fiend. The sugar may be responsible for the shaking and the nervousness as I've continued to eat them (but just this one time I say nearly every day). Each day I'm not going to eat it and each day I do it again even knowing what it does to me and ignoring signs from my body. Last night, however, my body put its foot down and said no more in the form of the worst dumping episode I've experienced. If I hadn't recognized it from milder previous episodes, I might have gone to the ER thinking I was dying. I used to wish I would dump like gastric bypass so I wouldn't eat sweets. What was I thinking??? All the sugar is in the trash now and I'm writing about last night in an effort to make sure I remember it and don't pick up the sugar again. Contrave is Naltrexone and Bupropion (sp). Buproprion is Wellbutrin, which I took years ago to help me quit smoking so I knew I'd tolerate it pretty well. And I am. No negative side effects so far other than maybe nervousness or jitteriness. I notice my hands shake but not all the time. And my jaw clenches but I am a pretty nervous/worried/anxious person even without meds. And this may be due to the sugar or a combination of meds and sugar. The first couple of days were a little weird in that I was kind of unsteady feeling for the first few hours but not enough to keep me from doing stuff. That has gone away other than the shaking. Also for the first couple of days, I had very little appetite and felt pretty wishy washy about eating and what I ate. I also got full quicker. As in, can't take another bite full. My appetite is now back to normal along with the cravings. Something that may be totally unrelated is my stomach has started to feel a little burny right before I get hungry (stomach growling). That is new. I am wondering if maybe thats my stomachs new way of feeling empty. I take 40 mg of omeprazole daily. Possibly I am eating less without realizing it because I'm eating so badly. I am down 1 pound from last Sunday, despite the sugary sweets and not totally sticking to my planned low carb diet. Today I start taking two capsules daily so I'll take the 2nd one tonight. I'm curious to see how it effects me. I am hopeful that as I add more, it will curb my appetite again but mostly I'd like it to dull the food obsession and cravings. They are bad now but I've been fighting them since surgery - they never left me. I literally dreamed of hamburgers during my clear liquid stage. Sometimes, I think they are worse after surgery than before. Or maybe I just feel them more now cause I can't indulge them the way I used to. Sorry this is so long. I wanted to write out how I'm doing with the Contrave for myself and maybe for anyone who is interested in it.

On the petite side..(closer to only 100lbs to lose after surgery)
Darktowerdream replied to Tracydawn's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I’m 5’ as well I tried to fight for surgery because I didn’t want to see over 200lbs again. Day of surgery I was 203lbs my highest 208lb. And BMI of 40. I cannot exercise and have metabolic disorders. I think as of this morning I might have hit a total 70lb loss. My surgery was April 29th. I started to log my weight daily on a calendar and take daily notes of weight, what I eat, calories and protein. I do stick to a certain calorie range and usually average between 50-60 grams protein. I try to vary what I eat and the calories/protein sometimes a little more sometimes a little less. I’m still trying to add new things. But make sure protein is priority. i honestly didn’t think I would get this far. I had gastric bypass surgery and gallbladder removal (my gallbladder had chronic inflammation) -

Are you Sleeve to RNY?

I would appreciate joining this group. I was sleeved March 2014 and getting a revision to RNY on November 11th . I would love to hear others experiences. I’m curious if recovery is the same, if the Reflux goes away and if there is weight loss. Also wondering if they adjust the sleeve size in the process. -

Wow amazing after so much time and effort I'll be going into hospital tomorrow morning...exactly 24 hours I'll be at the hospital. Will be spending today washing and packing everything I need to take, getting a little anxious just hope everything goes smoothly and the recovery is not too hard.. I've done so good I did my own preop diet for 9 weeks just cut out all sugar; junk; and went high Protein low carbs low fats. I'm officially down from highest weight of 322 and today I'm 258lbs 😀 I assume I'll take on some gas weight but still I'm so happy I'm aiming to get below 200. My ultimate end goal would be 180-190lbs But I'm really hoping this bypass will fix a lot of my medical issues as well.. getting excited and that 2020 will be a whole new year and new life for me this may BE my last post as preop and in hospital I'll be going dark no INTERNET while I'm in hospital just decided I want to take the time TO concentrate on myself and my recovery so you may not hear from me until I return from hospital which could be a few days maybe more... Here in Australia the surgeon won't allow me to leave until I'm doing everything properly and feeling good... Thank you again to everyone and their kind words thus far!! Mikeyy

Nervous about revision
areonna71 replied to KadieEuropeBound's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I was suffering from January 2019 after a round of steroids, until my revision from sleeve to bypass on 9/11/19. I will honestly say I am very thankful I had made the decision to proceed with the surgery regardless of any possible drawbacks. After 9 months of progressively being able to eat less and less food, sleeping in a chair, to not sleeping at all unless I was at an almost 90 degree angle; the surgery has given me back my life. 1 week after surgery I was able to sleep at a 45 degree angel and 2 weeks after surgery I was finally able to convince myself to try to sleep at an almost flat position. I am now 6 weeks out and I have finally had a week of real sleep after 9+ months of "naps". Like most of everyone who opts originally for the sleeve, I was worried about the bypass dumping syndrome, which unfortunately I have learned the realness of, and how to avoid it at all costs. ( quick lesson - avoid all sugars real and artificial), but I still have the fear of losing too much weight, malabsorbtion, and osteoporosis. I still haven't started solid food for fear of the GERD coming back, but I was told if I were to stay on the high dose pantoprazole for long term it would contribute to osteoperosis, which was my absolute defining calalyst to finally agreeing to the surgery. If you are on the fence, determine what kind of quality of life you wan, then if you are willing to make the changes to achieve it. I knew I wanted to be able to walk independently and not need to be using a cane or wheelchair when I retire, especially if I could make better food choices and take vitamins after surgery to prevent it now. Good luck with your decision. -

11 weeks post op still can't eat much
Briswife15 replied to boopatches's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Are the veggies well cooked, or are you trying to eat them raw? Poultry dry? That'll hurt. I'm 7 months post bypass and still pretty much on soft food! My advice is to chew really really well, and use something to "lube" the meat. Cook veghies well, and take small bites. Good luck. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Revision from sleeve to bypass

I had a revision to RnY from my sleeve after 8 months due to reflux. The reflux is gone. The only downside is I have less restriction now than I had with my sleeve.
