Many of us have problems eating solids the first thing in the morning. Do NOT skip breakfast though. It really is the most important meal of the day. It jump starts our metabolism for the whole day. I usually have yogurt fr breakfast but if I let Cereal like miniwheats or raisin bran get a little soggy, I have no problem with it.

5 weeks out. What's everyone eating?!
NikkiDoc replied to ls27's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
With my anti-gall stone pill and Nexium pill I eat 2 bites of cottage cheese. Per surgeon I need to take with dairy. Breakfast is Protein shake Morning snack: eggs with canned ham, Rotel (canned diced tomatoes/green chilis), tiny bit of cheese. (I made a batch and portioned out a few days worth) Lunch: Deli ham, 1 slice provolone Afternoon snack: Ground beef with Rotel and taco seasoning Dinner: probably left over Rotisserie chicken and broccoli Earlier in the week DH and I went to Outback. I had the Ahi-Tuna appetizer and mixed veggies (broccoli, snow peas, carrots.) I stole 2 of his croutons and nibbled on them. During a snow day this week I had an Avocado baked with an egg in it. Didn't care for the taste. But it went down fine. Last Friday I made Shrimp Alfredo with Linguine. I use low-carb Pasta. I had a few shrimp, 3 noodles and some broccoli. I like egg salad or chicken salad. I mix the salad using Hellman's light mayo and fat free yogurt to keep the fat grams down. I add a tiny bit of Gulden's mustard to the egg salad. I just cannot stand fat free mayo. I also only like Hellman's. I have had chicken breast but it has to be pretty moist or it is tough to get down. Rotisserie tends to be good for that. It is harder to not get grilled breast to be too "dry". I have had crackers a few times over the last week. At most I will have 2 club crackers at a time with either the deli meat or the egg salad/chicken salad. I had salmon a few weeks ago. I have some tilapia in the freezer that I will eat some of this weekend. I had some fresh fruit this past week- strawberries, blue berries, orange wedge. I avoided the apple as it had peels on and was finely diced so no way to avoid the peels. I have not ventured into trying lettuce or raw veggies yet. -
Hey great job on the weight loss but try to go for healthier Snacks if your still hungry between meals nuts, yogurt and jerky

Congratulations! I'm so excited for you. Just a note: steer clear of the SpongeBob Square Pants chocolate Lagoon Cream-of-Wheat. I really enjoyed the fruit flavored packets of oatmeal, the first batches I puréed further in my Magic Bullet. I was sad when I didn't respond well to the liquid Yogurt, but when we return to Fresno, I'm honing to give it another try. It's just so yummy. My Pregresso Tomato Basil Soup became my instant pizza-flavor replacement during the full-liquid stage. I've got 2 weeks on the soft & Puréed foods, and I'm at a very satisfied level.

I'm two weeks post-surgery and just transitioned over to soft food. I was actually pretty surprised how easy getting fluids and things like yogurt down was. I can drink a 20 oz bottle of Water in 15-20 minutes, 6 oz thing of yogurt in 15 minutes, a cup of blended chili, etc.. That last two nights I've had tuna fish salad and scrambled egg. I was thinking my sleeve must be huge if I can eat 6 oz of yogurt or a cup of chili without batting an eye. 1/2 cup of tuna fish salad - I'm DONE. Can't even think of another bite. 1 egg with a little cheese on it - DONE. I'm glad to see the restriction kick in big-time for more solid foods. It does make me understand more about "sliders", "eating around the sleeve", "cheating the sleeve", etc.

Wow - my stomach is small...
LSF replied to lslblues's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm glad to hear that. I'm only 9 days post op and was the same as you. No problems with drinks, yogurt, pudding. I was wondering how my stomach is going to handle the food down the road -
diahrrea after surgery?????
lsereno replied to ScentsyLady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'd call the Dr. or nutritionist - you might be lactose intolerant following surgery. I am. There are varying levels. I can tolerate whey Protein, yogurt, and hard cheeses, but not milk or cottage cheese. I switched to soy milk in my Protein drinks and felt better. I still had diarrhea the first couple of weeks, but I had less gas and I went poo less often. Lynda -

I'm having a hard time eating!
LisaMergs replied to pqmr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Omg I am SO with you! I'm 13 days out- full liquids- bit can have yogurt, hot cereals puddings too. My problem is just like yours. Eating fills me so fast! I have zero problems getting my liquids in, though my tummy prefers them to be warm. Room temp water is so-so , therefore I tend to drink more hot tea than anything. Crystal lite is ok. Anyway- I'm supposed to have 3 meals of 4 oz each and drink liquids and protein shakes in between. I much prefer having one meal and upping my protein to make certain I get it all in. It is so darn hard! I felt "real" restriction for the first time today. Trying to get liquids in 30 min after I ate and each sip almost hurt[emoji20][emoji20][emoji20]. Spoke with my NUT today and she said that for now it was ok to do "food" as an in-between and protein shakes as main source. Said it may take a few more weeks for my new tummy to get used to food. She also cautioned me that she did not approve of this as a long term solution. Who knew?[emoji4] -
I eat a lot of greek yogurt so I never bothered with probiotics. Then again I guess the amount of yogurt I eat is why I am never constipated.

Anyone else 3 weeks out ?
IpswichPav replied to Band07's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 3 weeks out tomorrow and down 12 pounds. I am eating protein shakes, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, eggs, applesauce ... I get to start eating real food this Wednesday after I see my nutritionist. My new stomach/sleeve feels fine, tolerating everything so far. I am still having pain in the abdominal muscles, though, which is frustrating. It is the central two incisions and only hurts if I bend at the waist. I haven't taken any pain medication since 5 days after surgery. I am looking forward to the muscles healing and being able to be more active without worrying about hurting myself. -
Anyone else 3 weeks out ?
ChunkyMonkey replied to Band07's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
18 pounds lost since surgery (I need to get serious about walking). Eating mostly my shakes along with greek yogurt, egg whites, cottage cheese. What about you? -
It's been 6 months since my original gastric bypass, which I then had reversed to a sleeve about three months ago. I still cannot eat without vomiting and pain. Sometimes, some days, I can do yogurt or a pretzel. I sometimes can handle cheese and Soups. But there are many days I can't. I haven't had more than 300 calories a day in six months. With the sleeve everything hurts and feels like it gets stuck and I have to make myself throw up to feel better. Anyone else experiencing an inability to advance their diet at three months?

I'm not allowed tomatoes or tomato soup for the first month, but my first month is considered 'modified solids/full liquids' so I can have cottage cheese, soft cheese, yogurt, strained cream Soups, refried Beans, etc. Today was my first day for full liquids rather than Clear Liquids. I did well at b-fast with 1 oz cottage cheese/1 oz unsweetened applesauce. However, I tried a string cheese at lunch and couldn't finish it - I'm not sure if the feeling was "full" or if it was just too much too soon on my baby sleeve, but I was able to finish 1/2 oz of it and 1 oz of sugar-free chocolate pudding. I'm going to try strained cream of mushroom soup for dinner - an oz of that and probably another oz of applesauce.

Sugar free frozen yogurt, make a smoothie, if you go to a medical store or health food section you should find sugar free cake for diabetics, and a little piece of that wouldn't be bad. I can not lie I went to the frozen yogurt place in town and about 2 oz of the REAL deal for a treat for my birthday. Just the yogurt, no toppings or anything. It was a nice treat, although I did get a sugar headache and wolnt do that again for a while!

Flavored Yogurt During Full Liquids Period
BarrySue replied to JohnT's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
On my doc's nutrition guide, he wanted all protein shakes. But when I had bloating/nausea with them, he said greek yogurt was okay. Generally, carbs should be under a set amount for a day, but realistically, it is okay to have a few if it helps you meet your protein goals. Eventually, you will have to integrate healthy carbs back into your diet, so I wouldn't get this rabid NO CARBS EVER mantra stuck in your head. I value learning to have a healthy relationship with food over religiously sticking to a diet that might not be working for me. -
Surgery Monday May 12th...have a question...
teacherlady2133 replied to mtwtvl71's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
My plan sounds the same I have been eating Soups made with milk then strained for no chucks. Protein shakes, S/F Jello, S/F pudding thinned with milk, Greek yogurt thinned with milk, cream of wheat, chicken and beef broth. Hope this helps I mainly do Protein Shakes because I like things supper cold so I blend with ice and milk and it is like a frosty. Feels good to me. -
Returning to work?
T'snewstart replied to tglastchance's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did the surgery through So Cal Kaiser. Most people that have a job with no lifting can return to work in a few weeks. My job requires heavy lifting so I was off longer. At the 2 week point I believe you will be at the stage where you can have strained cream soups, yogurt. So Yes I think in your line of work you should be fine. Many office workers go back after one week. Best wishes to you! -

I am finishing up day one of my preop diet and I have to say it is MUCH better than I thought it was going to be. As part of my fee, I get a one month's supply of shakes and Vitamins. I am drinking Bariatric Advantage chocolate and it is pretty good. I get to add fruit, today I chose strawberries, and so that makes it even better. I have a shake for Breakfast and lunch and then I get a cup of Soup for dinner and one yogurt that I can gave any time of day. I just decided to make my own soup so I made green chili (I love New Mexico) soup with chicken and Beans. It came out great. I bought a bunch of one cup size containers on a whim last year and they are paying off helping me portion all my dinners. I am happy that with a few bumps in the road behind me on my journey, this diet is helping me to stay positive for the weeks to come.

So Many Problems. Worth It?
Snufflegus replied to Tracy Anderson's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I did not have the medical issues and can not speak to that but when I moved to soft foods lots of things made me sick and gave me stomach cramps and diarrhea. I got to where for the first month on soft foods I ate the same things everyday because they worked. Sometimes some of our tummies take a bit longer to get healed enough to process. Yogurt and refried beans and chili from Wendy's were some of my stapes during this period. I hope your surgeon can give you some suggestions. -
Epic failure today trying to mix the vanilla flavor with some greek yogurt. I have it in the freezer with hopes that if I make it like ice cream or frozen yogurt that I'll be able to tolerate the taste. I took 3 bites, and I wanted to throw up.
