Social eating after gastric sleeve
ja1721 replied to TriStateSleever's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I got sleeved 4/10. I'm not able to answer your question precisely but I'm kind of in the same boat. Currently I don't eat with my family, but I do eat with my friends. I simply check if the menu offers soup or ask if they can accommodate me. If all else fails, I order herbal tea with artificial sweetener. I've only went out with my best friend, who knows I had the surgery. It's definitely not recommended to do so now but I just had my graduation ceremony. My aunt did the gastric sleeve years before I did. I don't think she began to eat "normally" until after a year. She never fully finishes a meal but will want a small snack afterwards (yogurt). She can't handle spicy food for anything, even now. She doesn't follow the rule of 30 anymore. Almost every time she eats out, she gets heartburn, indigestion, etc. When she finishes eating, it's not because she's happily satisfied but because she's uncomfortable. That's not to say that she doesn't enjoy her food. Obviously, this is when we would go out for rich, once-in-a-while type food. She doesn't really experience this with home cooked foods. Bear in mind, she also fell into some of her old habits. Thankfully, she didn't have too much weight gain. I've also noticed she's a lot pickier now, taste wise. Downright acts like a food critic. Overall, she definitely eats enough that it isn't obvious she had WLS. She just appears to be finnicky with a sensitive stomach. Her initial recovery was a month long so that spared her from dealing with people who didn't know she did the procedure. When she went back to work, her coworkers were all up in her business demanding to know why she was eating so little (and not out of concern). They would bring her sweets even though they were fully aware she was dropping weight. It was clear they were trying to sabotage her. Outside of work, the only people she's had to deal with were family and her husband's friends. So, she only had serious social gatherings around the holidays, and she was sleeved in the Spring. WLS is obviously not ideal if you have a robust social life. For me, even when I get to my soft food stage, I'll still order soup at restaurants because I'm not going to ask them to make my food nursing-home soft in front of who I'm having dinner with. If anybody has an issue, I'll say I ate earlier. Can't drink after WLS. I'll say I've gone sober. Drinking ages you, anyway. -
I just had a teaspoon of hummus with a teaspoon of avocado topped with a teaspoon of greek yogurt and it. was. GLORIOUS. I'm four days out and my surgeon gave me the greenlight to work in small amounts of pureed food.

This was given to me of what I could have. I added steamed veggies to the broth and it was different. I also add the hidden valley ranch seasoning packet to plain Greek yogurt and dipped veggies in it. It was tasty. I drank premier protein shakes and the sugarfree Popsicles were a treat. Trying to kick Sweet craving and Carbs bread
Tami10 replied to YellowBird19's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I had a hard time with water also did crystal light before couldn't stand it after. Water on a whole made me sick. I hate Gatorade. I did some research and water nausea is a thing and that's why a lot of people including me from even before surgery put stuff in their water. I had to try so many different waters until I found one that didn't sit heavy on my stomach mine is smart water. Made look and find one that works for you. And my dr said I can have some carbs as long as I eat my protein first. I love bread. I'll eat a sandwich on a French roll or something but only eat it with bread on the bottom. Also can't eat a whole sandwich. As far as sweets find something that isn't terrible for you to feed it a little so it's not always on a 10. I like breyers carb smart ice cream. I also like yogurt strawberries and a granola. I found a granola that is low in carb and sugar made by ratio. Sent from my SM-A716U using BariatricPal mobile app -

My doctor has me on 10 days clear, 10 days full liquid, 10 days pureed then solids. I am taking in a lot of fluids, more than 64 oz. I has around 80 g of protein. I would like something more filling. Like yogurt. I sent a message to ask about advancing to full. My doctor is in Mexico. -
Liver shrinking diet UK
liveaboard15 replied to Lou30102015's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
3 pints of just milk and yogurt? that provides barely any nutrients or protein I have never heard of that type of liquid pre op diet. For most people you do protein shakes. typically 3-5 a day. of course all surgeons are different but yours seems a bit odd... -
Hi This is my first post on here so not sure how this all works lol. I am due to have gastric bypass surgery on the 26th May and I'm on day 6 (almost completed) of the liver shrinking diet of 3 pints of milk and 2 yogurts... i feel so weak and hungry. Its hell!
-
yes missing meals and letting yourself get too hungry is bad. So before I go out, I always bring a high protein yogurt and cut up veggies or tuna and crackers and eat on the go. Which also eating on the go after surgery is never a good idea! I hope you just hit a stall and keep loosing until you reach you goal weight!!!

Have you looked into the Yasso Greek yogurt bars? They are still a special occasion treat because they have added sugars, but they are only 100 calories a bar for the ones not dipped in chocolate. They have them at Walmart and it’s Greek yogurt so they have 5G protein. They have mint chocolate chip, cookie dough and sea salt & caramel. Not sure what phase you are in or whether they fit i to your calorie budget but they do taste pretty good.

I’m not an egg person either. Before surgery, my breakfasts would be one of the following: 1. Green yogurt with a little extra protein powder 2. Cottage cheese w/ bits of avocado 3. Sliced avocado and a small Turkey sausage patty 4. Spinach, butternut squash, and some ground Turkey mixed together 5. Apple slices and string cheese 6. Slices of tomato topped with Greek yogurt (plain), dill, and bits of bacon -
Tomorrow is the day for my VSG surgery! I’ll be staying overnight in the hospital. I haven’t had any surgeries that weren’t on an emergency basis so are there things i should expect? Any tips to get through the jitters? I’m excited to get to this point but just having those last minute jitters. I’ve kept busy today by cleaning the house and getting the couch set up with a sleeping wedge for when i get home and have stocked up on protein shakes, protein water and some yogurt and cottage cheese since my surgeon goes right to the puréed stage once I’m home.

Wow! eating Is definitely different now. This morning I had one scrambled egg with a tiny bit of mozzarella cheese. For lunch and supper for had 3oz of tuna. (Tuna had egg, light mayo and sweet relish). I did ok with the egg but the tuna wasn't easy to eat. I had a yogurt between lunch and dinner. Im still confused on how much im supposed to eat. My book lays out meal plans. But I could barely eat 3oz of tuna. I can't imagine eating anything else with it. How long does it take you to eat 3oz of food. My book says to expect to take 30 minutes to eat. But I'm done in 10 to 15 minutes. Am I eating too fast?

I liked protein shakes at that stage. Premier was a favorite, although I also liked to mixed unflavored protein in my coffee or make a green smoothie. My favorite is spinach, blueberry and pineapple with unflavored protein and collagen. I am also a fan of Oikos triple zero greek yogurt. Depending on where you are with healing, you may consider adding a little granola. In fact, those two plus eggs are still pretty much what I have for breakfast even now. -
I had surgery on May 2nd. Anytime I drank or moved, my stomach was roiling with acid and gas. I called it my witch's cauldron. I was concerned as I saw so many that didn't seem to have this issue after surgery. Once I got to week 2 with full liquids (yogurt, protein shakes, etc.) and I could consume more items of substance, this improved greatly and is now not an issue. Hopefully yours will improve too.

I was gonna say @ms.sss that I’ll be more than happy to eat ALL the carbs! As is the case with dinner- kabuli pilau and vegetable raita. For those that aren’t familiar- pilau is a kind of rice pilaf dish that varies by country across Southern Asia and the Middle East, kabuli pilau is one that comes from Kabul, Afghanistan and traditionally is made with lamb, carrots and raisins. Raita is a yogurt dip? Salad? that’s popular in many variations in India. I think if I make that particular pilau again I’ll double the spices and reduce the ghee used. No after picture, I ate it all. -
I am at work and bored. haha Spending my day messing around online. I am salary so I could leave, but the guy who works under me is out sick so if something important came up no one would be here to do it. So, as the dedicated awesome (time wasting) employee I am... here I sit. I never cared for greek yogurt unless it is mixed in something for cooking. Honestly Danimals tubes were always my favorite. I w ould even freeze them for a snack. But now, too much sugar.. booo I ate a lot of refried beans in my pureed stage. Also, egg salad.
-
I’m on work leave and I am bored too 🤣 today I moved into the mushy stage. My diet expanded to being able to have: fat free refried beans, low fat ricotta or cottage cheese, and eggs 🍳 I had 2tbs of beans for breakfast and it was way better than it should have been 🤣 I was so tired of yogurt. Days 3-6 my options were yogurt, hot cereal. I hate hot cereal. So I ate yogurt and was over it. Moving on up!

Well if you like ranch the Bolthouse farms ranch is made from yogurt so it’s only 45 calories and it’s good.
-
Yea. I mostly got them because I found a yogurt salad dressing that I like and it’s only 45 calories for 2 TBSP. So I was going to take it with me when I go out to eat. I was just surprised how tiny that cup is. I think I have been having a couple servings. At least it’s just 45 calories though. But now I know why they say not all salads are created equal. I used to use regular ranch and a lot of it. Probably worse than a cheeseburger.

Been doing these daily bentos. They're small little portions, perf for wls. I got this bento from a Japanese goods store. The biggest one is about 400 ml, about 1.6 cups (because im American lol) and the smallest one holds 180 ml or .75 cups/3/4. I get about 40 grams of protein depending on the food combo in them. Im a vegetarian so here I have vegan jerkey, vegan breadless chicken strips, edamame beans and white cheese. Got some veggies and fruit for fiber, some baked fries, and a serving of these no sugar added dark chocolate gems for dessert. I supplement the rest with a protein yogurt an/or protein shake. Takes me anywhere from 70-90 grams of protein daily. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Hi everyone. I am exactly 1 week post op today and I feel like I didn't even have surgery because I'm still waking up with the same hunger pains I had before surgery. I'm hungry all day. Can anyone give me some advice as to what to do to calm this hunger? I'm still on the liquid diet so it's protein shakes, pudding, jello, yogurt, and water all day long... I'm so hungry all day that I'm tempted to eat real food, but I refuse to cheat. Any advice would help. Thanks. Sent from my moto g stylus 5G using BariatricPal mobile app

I've been enjoying banza and oikos since I could eat soft foods. Banza has a little added protein which compliments your main source of protein well or have with some vegetables. The oikos always helps me reach my protein goal. No added sugar and tastes pretty good. I also like these hu chocolate gems. Sometimes I add 1/2 a serving to my vanilla yogurt as a "dessert". They have about 4 grams of sugar per half serving. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app -

I am allowed to have soft boil egg with a little mayo, sweet potato, mash potatoes, Greek yogurt, refried beans and recently tried the ricotta cheese bake. -

Day 3 post op and protein shakes?
lizonaplane replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was drinking protein shakes from the morning after I got home from the hospital, also sugar free smooth greek yogurt (no fruit bits!). I could do a protein shake in about a half hour right away, but I couldn't finish a full yogurt in one sitting. I never liked the protein water - they tasted unpleasantly thick to me, and protein powders were so gritty. I still drink Fairlife Nutrition Plan and Core Power sometimes.
