Does any know the criteria for Tufts for a revision from sleeve to bypass? I suffer from terrible reflux and need some relief. The medication doesn't work anymore. I do not fit the BMI and I don't have diabetes, sleep apnea or cardiovascular issues. Thank you Sent from my LGLS991 using BariatricPal mobile app

Revision from Lap Band to Sleeve
RavenDW17 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hello, I'm 5 years post op with band and looking to get a revision to the sleeve. I need something that has long term success. I'm just very nervous about the surgery. How was the surgery? Your recovery process? I'm honestly looking for first hand accounts of patients who have gone through revision surgery. I want to hear the good/bad/ugly. I'm doing all my research in my spare time but with that I want to hear stories from people who have already gone through it. Thank you! Sent from my Nexus 6 using the BariatricPal App -
Anyone else had a revision?
shellbell816 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had a VSG in November 2010. I got pregnant 7 months later and after losing maybe 50lbs, I never lost again. I'm going through the process of getting revision surgery, this time full RNY. Sent from my SM-N920T using the BariatricPal App -
Sorry to hear you are having such a hard time. I've read too many times about people's bands giving them trouble. It makes me wonder why it's still a WLS option. :lol0: Anyway, I had a hietal hernia that I didn't even know about that Dr. Aceves repaired while doing my VSG (free of charge :lol0:). It would be good if you could have yours repaired at the same time of your revision. Good luck!

Band out. Round 4 with insurance
liannatx replied to km30381's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I truly hope that your insurance has to pay. I also had to wait between band removal and Sleeve, my surgeon said that once he was in there my stomach was in no shape to do the revision at the same time. Those months past super fast though and the Sleeve surgery and recovery went smoothly. I will be crossing my fingers for you also. -
Dealing with bansters when you change.
Becca replied to HunnyBunny's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was attacked on the Band Forum too when I started asking for help after my band was failing and broken apart. I was mad, but so glad my doctor told me about the sleeve. I have not met anyone like that here. The sleeve community is very supportive. I know for a fact that my band failied ME and not the other way around. I have had nothing but success with the sleeve. The band was a big, painful mistake and I am so happy to have it out! I do try to tell people my story if they are deciding on a WLS. I really think that eventually, the statistics on the band will speak for themselves. Especially with all of the revisions being done! -
CVS Requiring Workers To Disclose Weight
Sojourner replied to DELETE THIS ACCOUNT!'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The reality is that it is just business, and the ever powerful "bottom line" on the budget which drives these incentives. We can't allow ourselves to personalize this... Many people are lazy about doing what they need to to keep their health or regain their health. Money is usually a good motivator to get the point home and spur people into action to take measures to improve their health. The research does not lie. People with chronic health issues are more expensive to insure. Some medical conditions are not preventable. Obesity, and the many co-morbid medical conditions which often accompany obesity are preventable if people choose to act on revising their eating and activity. Big business is trying to cut their costs...people who would rather be obese are resistant to change. You can make a choice to use another pharmacy, but it will make no difference to CVS. Their employees who balk at the idea of their new requirements for weight disclosure can choose to be employed somewhere else. It's all about choices...and discrimination for weight is just another social issue which travels just under the radar and doesn't get much press because it s so difficult to prove. I'm not saying the CVS corporate policy is correct, but it was not put in place to discriminate against obese people. It's not personal...it's just business. -
Anyone had a revision to original gastric bypass?
MISTY_CEE035 replied to Jsteelecat's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hello I hope you are doing. Congratulations on the revision of the Gastric Bypass. If you would not mind sharing the name of the surgeon who conducted your revision in case I experience the same issue and may need to seek further medical support. Are you in NYC? Misty -

Worried that doctor made my pouch too big?
Coexister replied to Coexister's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had revision due to bad reflux that was causing damage to my vocal chords but I also never reached my goal weight with the sleeve. I am hoping to reach 145 with this revision. I am currently at 154 and seem to be holding steady and am hoping for another drop. ; ) I was about 173 pre-surgery before the pre-op diet. I am now eating regular foods and am now realizing that there is a restriction and that if I do eat too much, it hurts really bad. I have had a few episodes with dumping however my body doesn't throw things up. I think it's because of the hiatal hernia repair with mesh that keeps foods from coming up. I wish I could throw up as it would be easier and provide relief at times but my body was always one that to hold things down and just make me suffer. So instead, I get the sweats and the pains and just suffer for a period of time. I am pretty much noticing that there is no indication of "about full" and that I am going to have to measure stuff and just stop before reaching the point the of no return. It seems to be all or nothing with this pouch. Once it realizes it is full, it's too late and I have overdone it. I probably need to learn to slow down even more and see if that works but I don't seem to get a signal to the brain that I am full? Maybe, I just never feel hungry and am just eating because I know I need too and so there is no signal because the head doesn't think it is hungry? I guess I need to take stock of what my body is feeling more and see where it goes. I am so terrified of drinking because it goes down so easy and I am always afraid that I am drinking too fast as being told that I could stretch my pouch by drinking to fast. So with that I am constantly trying to slow down my drinking and making sure I don't gulp down water. My bowels are definitely acting different and I am hoping they level out at some point and they get easier as well as I am currently living on Miralax twice daily to keep things smooth, LOL. This is definitely a different journey then the sleeve. Seems the sleeve was easier? -
Has anyone had the incisionless POSE procedure? Dr recomendation

Yeah, Howard's website said it was a revision, but I'm not sure if Dr. Umbach's facility performs is as such. Sorta confusing lol. -

kimk1999 replied to sadymichele's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yeah, I don't want to be a guinea pig for a new procedure. That's part of why I like the band option. They went through my belly button so the scar is hidden. The band has been around for a very long time for long term studies. I have a pretty good idea as to what I've gotten myself into. I have a decent understanding of the success rates 10 years out, mortality, weight regain, revisions, etc. Good luck on your research. -
Anyone have their sleeve done by Dr. Ganta -Austin?
WingRider replied to austinglobe's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hello, Fellow Austinite here, I have had a consult with Dr. Ganta. I really liked him, he was to do my lap band through True Results. It was during his consult that I decided the sleeve was better for me. Insurance was going to cover the band. I am self-pay for the sleeve, that is why I am going to Mexico. He seemed really informed about the sleeve and I think he preferred it over the band, as long as you were willing accept the increased risks in the first 30 days due to leaks. He told me he had done about 80 sleeves as of August 09. Good luck with your revision. -
I was only about 25lbs away from having a BMI of 55. I started the VSG journey as a revision patient at BMI 49. I did lose fast, and didn't ever have a stall. I attribute the no stall thing to pushing fluids, and low carbs. It's what worked for me. I didn't go one single week without losing something, it might have only been 2lbs, but the next week, I'd drop 7lbs. With more to lose, statistically, we lose faster. I dropped 142lbs in less than 11 months with VSG alone. I was set to lose 115lb to goal in a year, but I hit goal at 6.5 months post op and continued to lose for the next 3-4 months.

Nervous. Tomorrow I tell my mother..YIKES
Tiffykins replied to mp8btpc's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Best wishes, my mother was absolutely against my revision. But, she knew me well enough to know that her "disapproval" was not going to keep me from doing it. Be prepared to give her solid medical info on the sleeve, give her some of the research information you've looked up. If you need links, there posted around here in several places. I can't speak on the Mexico part as I had my surgery here in Florida. I know my husband is absolutely against me traveling to Mexico for my plastics. I'll just wait until he's deployed again to get my boobs. Not really, in all seriousness, I'll stay local for the boob job as well. Good luck and just don't let anyone keep you from doing the very best for your future health. -
I have my band to sleeve revision on Aug 11. I would love a friend or someone to chat with that I can give and get moral support, share ideas, etc. My family is supporting me but I want somebody who really understands what I am going thru.

Fallen off the wagon at 3 months post op
lizonaplane replied to ac0181's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with trying to see a therapist, but that can be very hard to find if you didn't do your surgery with a big surgery center in the US or where you live. I've heard that places outside the US (especially Mexico, Turkey, etc) don't provide much support after surgery, and I know from experience that finding a therapist trained in weight issues can be very hard. I would try to work on things like figuring out what you are feeling when you decide to order take out. Are you tired, bored, sad, angry, lonely? If any of these things are the problem, eating take out is not the solution. If you wait until you are over tired or way too hungry to eat, you are more likely to make bad choices with what to eat. It's not hard to keep better choices on hand. Try keeping low sugar flavored Greek yogurt, tuna, protein shakes, cheese, fruit, etc on hand. I travel a lot so I eat out, but I try to choose the best possible option (high protein, low carb) and when I'm home, I make something with ground turkey or chicken like chili, taco meat, ground turkey stroganoff, etc and divide it in portions to freeze so I always have something that takes two minutes to heat up. It takes much less time than ordering take out. I don't wait after drinking to eat (my surgery center said we didn't have to) but I definitely don't drink after eating - it's painful to me, plus we were told it would just flush the food down our stomach and we'd be hungry sooner. Try to get yourself to track, even if it's only every other day. You said you've been working since May 2021 on getting this surgery. There's no second chance after this. Even if you have a revision surgery, you may not lose much weight. It's now or never. -

Types of Bariatric Surgery: By the Numbers and What It Means
AllanG replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
This post is very interesting and helpful. It confirms to me that lap band surgery is not advisable. It also confirms the increasing popularity of sleeve surgery. I still think that the RNY bypass is the best action for me to take. I think many of the sleeve surgeries will end up with disappointing results and many will require revisions to bypass. -
I had my revision from gastric sleeve to ds on 4/8/2019 and i have only lost 31 pounds I am getting a bit fustrated but I have noticed that I have lost a lot of inches. can you please share your stats

Anyone having surgery the 25th of April?
krisk12786 replied to Michele12's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am guessing we are the same age too! This will be revision for me, what are you getting? -
Wow! This entire strand has brought me to tears. I can relate to each of you. I had revision surgery last week on the 25th. I feel swollen as well, I'm so anxious to start losing weight and secretly scared of failing again. The scars are not pretty but when I think about looking at the old scars prior to revion surgery they had faded are were barely noticeable so I'm sure this time will be no different. I'm interested in knowing how weight loss progress goes for you ladies. Its hard to others that have went from band to sleeve....hope its okay if I send ya send request and follow some of your post. I need all the positive feedback I can get. I just keep praying and asking God to give me the patience and strength I need to take it one day at a time and be happy in the moment. I've been using moist heat for the aches and its helped tremendously. Doc gave me liquid hydrocodone but I haven't taken it since Saturday.... Like I said that heat works wonders. I am trying to get back on my walking regimen as quickly as possible.
