6 weeks/ 8 weeks lost 30 lbs
GypsyQueen replied to vegasneon's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am 8 1/2 weeks post op and am down only 24 lbs. (but not fretting as I lost 45 lbs on my 6 mo. pre op). In those 24 lbs. though, I've dropped 4 pant sizes. i'm hoping slow and steady wins the race. -
I smoked before and after surgery and just quit 2 mo. ago and it stalled my weight loss. I wish I had quit before. If I had it to do over again I would have quit first.

Smoking
hakunamatata_ca replied to hakunamatata_ca's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
That is so great you have quit. I think I have been smoking more just thinking about quiting. I wasn't going to try patch on until heading out for surgury but I think I will get on that tomorrow morning to start my work day and see how it goes through the week for me. I leave Sunday night / early Monday morning next weekend. Thanks and congrats to you! -
Omg ours are super similar I was 249 signing up Then 228 day of surgery And now I'm 216 So cool! I'm three weeks out of surgery .

So whats your meal plan 6 or more months out now
jess9395 replied to jaysleever's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Seven months out here. I am in the several small meals rather than 3 meals a day camp. Breakfast/first meal in the morning I usually do a Protein shake. Sometimes I will do a NF cappucino and then have a Protein Shake later in the day. Then I have 3-5 other small meals that typically consist of one of these things: Greek yogurt (Chiobani 100, Dannon light & fit or Fage) 1oz turkey Jerky Sharp cheddar made with 2% milk String cheese Thin sliced cold cuts Poached chicken breast 1/3-1/2 of a pure protein or Quest bar Raw veggies with Fage mixed with ranch dressing mix 1oz almonds or cashews 1/2 c Turkey chilli 2 turkey meatballs w/marinara I will usually pair one or two of these small meals with a carb like 1/4-1/2 cup berries, melon, plums, apricots Hummus with veggies Roasted root vegetables Sliced tomatoes with balsamic and olive oil and basil Small salad with full fat dressing Flat out low carb wrap (1/2) or a low carb tortilla (1/2) A couple of times a week I will splurge and add in something the family is eating or eat out. I don't deny myself a bit or this or that including.... A few French fries A cheese won ton (had this today!) Half a slice of thin crust pizza Insides of a street taco Popcorn at the movies Chick fil a grilled nuggets A few bites of almost anything my husband or kids order I have completely stayed away from bread, rice, sugar drinks including juice, Pasta...other than that I don't have any forbidden foods....including a very occasional dessert. I eat around 800 calories a day, typically 70g protein (60+) less than 60 carbs (usually less than 40). -
Hi, How is the book going? I read the book before and quit, had a crises and started up again. Then I went on the actual course. I've not touched a ciggie since 3 June 2009. And I'm a happy non-smoker. So all the best. I hope it works for you. To my mind it's the only book or course that works and I've tried every method.

I tried to quit , I was 40 regular a day , bad day somedays even 60 , disgusting isnt it , anyway pre op I tried to quit but only managed to get down to 10 regular a day and it was a struggle , my first op on 25th March until 4 days after 2nd op on 1st April I managed with none and really tried to keep but failed , , a few days I was back on 10 a day . a couple of weeks on Im on abou 15 - 20 a day and seem content , I have however changed from regular to lights hoping well perhaps if I can get nictoine intake down I can try cut back say 1 a day and get down to 10 lights a day and then try quitiing again. Sadly I think Im having to concentrate on the band more and quitting smoking will have to take 2nd for a month or two until I get fully settled down with the band. I wish you all the best and hope your will power is a lot better than mine , no easy task by any means sadly for me .... my love for a smoke is as great as my love for food. Perhaps instead of the band I should just have gotten my lips stitched together LOL , that would have solved both problems at same time

Employers and Surgery
HDubSleevery replied to KMP85's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
E is an fmla requirement that you have at least a certain number of hours with the employer. I think it is 1250? I'm not sure when you started with your job but they may be saying December because you are not yet eligible under the federal law. Fmla is the family medical leave act. The federal government requires all employers over a certain size to comply with this law. I think it is 10 employees minimum. Fmla gives employees the right to apply for job protection due to illness, pregnancy, or to care for a family member with an illness. If you meet the criteria your employer must grant you up to 12 weeks of leave to return to work. The leave can be paid or unpaid according to individual company policy. Short term disability pays your wages upon illness or accident. -
Went back to work today
badonkadonkbutt replied to txbecca's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been wondering how people feel when you go back to work. I have a desk job but do a lot of twisting and turning and running to grab this or that......My doctor says to plan to be off a week. I plan on scheduling it just as a 'vacation' so that I don't have too tell too many people what I am doing. Anyway, hang in there Rebecca! You are doing great already!! -
Question Bandster Family??????
ldjstonband replied to ldjstonband's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh yeah I'm so exited I go Wednesday to check incisions and maybe get out on mushies. But I've already lost 25 lbs from pre diet and this week. This is great so far I'm scared to go through banister hell as everyone calls it. -
How long did you stay in the hospital?
Lori21769 replied to Dave_NW's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was in 5 days, and saw my surgeon two weeks after the surgery. -
So my surgery is scheduled for 12/29 and I'm feeling all the feelings: excited, nervous, concerned etc. But the worst thing is that because of Covid-19 my hospital is reviewing and cancelling/ rescheduling elective surgeries on pretty much a daily basis so that I won't know if I'm actually going to have surgery until xmas. I have 3 more days until my pre-op liquid diet and I'm not looking forward to the possibility that I'll have to stay on that without the surgery well into January if I get bumped. I'm also scared that I might get Covid while I'm there. This is so ridiculously stressful! I should be excited that I'm getting what I worked so hard for. Just gotta keep my fingers crossed I guess. =(

So ive been under the assumption that im having the sleeve surgery done. However when i logged into my patient portal I saw under my upcoming appointments and procedures this: Planned Procedures Bypass operation of stomach using an endoscope Does that mean it was changed to bypass without me knowing it? Or is that just a generic term posted for it? I plan to call but he is out of the office this week.

good luck to ya kenny! I had similiar...my pre op started 3 days out with soft foods then on the day before liquids.... My doc explained that sometimes in bigger people it just makes life easier for them to have the small intestines and bowels a little empty...so go drop the kids off at the pool.... LOL ...if ya know what I mean! LOL ....sorry to be gross, just trying to help for post op! I was banded a week ago and have no regrets...by day 4 I was on liquid tylenol...and today I just feel as if I did a few too many sit ups.... I thought mine was too easy too, the whole process from seminar to band was less than 4 months... but I was wrong...just be prepared to have ur own experience...and if u got a minute a great book I would reccomend would be Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies...its been my bible pre & post op in giving a good sense of whats to come and whats normal and not.... hope this all helps and good luck today!

How quickly did you schedule surgery after insurance approval?
southernbelle13 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started this journey on 6/4/09 and I just found out I got approved on 9/11!! I am due to talk to the office and schedule surgery this week. My question is, how quickly were you able to get your surgery done after approval. I have a wedding to attend on 10/24 so I would like to have surgery on 10/1 or 10/2. I am just wondering if that is too much to hope for. Thanks for the help!:tongue2: -
So I got my approval and VSG surgery date (5/15 - yay!). During my pre op visit with the doctor, I asked about recovery time in the hospital and how he tests for leaks. I asked about going back to work. I've got my diet instructions. But after reading through the boards, I never asked about bougie size (how big will my stomach be post op). Is there anything else I missed that should be on my list of questions? I've got 4 weeks to ask until surgery! Thanks for the help!

I would suggest the preop diet of 3 premier protien shakes, 2 green salads, 1 serving of 6-8oz protien,,, keeps carbs and sugar low, protien high. I lost 23# in 14 days in this diet Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App

Same thing has been happening to me! Except it has been a month since surgery for me!! Put on about 2-3 lbs since then and so far it isn't going anywhere!! I hope everyone is right and once I get a fill at the end of the month the scale will move in the right direction!! (for both of us )

Bariatric surgery should be compared to being pregnant!!! 1. My taste have changed not a good or bad thing 2. My belly feels like 80pounds 3. My moods are here and there 4. My cravings are outrageous 5. The worst is smells, they make me sooo nauseous Thought I'd put up how I have felt today bc it's been a trip of gas more gas and nausea. I didn't do anything out of ordinary but walk two times around the house and sip sip sip which I could have done to fast. Happy weekend y'all!!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Banded 6/1/10. can't keep anything down!
kimba999 replied to kimba999's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks. Just a couple of hours ago, I started feeling some relief. I managed to slowly drink a small amount of Protein powder mixed in with about 3/4 cup of non-fat milk and nothing came up for over an hour and when it did, it was a small amount. For the last five days, I would drink a small sip of even Water or tea (I'm talking about less than a teaspoon) and I would get immediate painful pressure that radiated into my upper back and then up it would come. I think I've turned a corner and am very happy. I was getting depressed and worried about dehydration and dreading the idea of going back to the hospital for more IV fluids!
