i had a gastric bypass. What about you. Do you feel really tired too?
-
He said it's a surgery I dont need when a mini gastric bypass would be perfect for me. I'm scared of getting bile reflux from the MGB. That's why I want the RNY. If I get reflux then I have to pay for a RNY anyways. I'm not happy about it, but I need surgery so I will have to deal with it and hope I'm not one of the people that get reflux.

When to schedule- desperate for advice about recovery time
Briswife15 replied to boymom860's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had gastric bypass and took 4 weeks off from work. Like others have said, I was very tired. I would definitely wait until summer and not rush it. Good luck!! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Hi! I'm having a Mini Gastric Bypass done on the 26th and I am worried about bile reflux. I've read more horror stories than happy ones on multiple forums, so I'm concerned I will end up another victim of bile reflux. Has anyone had a MGB and NOT have reflux? I really want a RNY but the surgeon won't do it. Any advice? Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

Sleeve revision to RNY or Bypass reason
Losingit2018 replied to AchieveGoals's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
This sounds like me. I am way more nervous about the bypass than I was with my sleeve. I had no complications with my sleeve and wondering g if I will be as lucky with rny. I do have an excellent surgeon so that is comforting. I understand exactly what you mean. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers today. Please update us when you are able -
Gastric bypass or sleeve
nomorefattypatty replied to laura071693's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yes I have struggled with reflux since I was at my heaviest weight. I've been taking Omeprazole 2 x a day for the last 15 years. I'm not having any reflux since last Tuesday and I'm so happy I did the bypass. Sent from my SM-J337P using BariatricPal mobile app -
Sleeve revision to RNY or Bypass reason
MsBrown76 replied to AchieveGoals's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Today is my sleeve to bypass day. I was sleeved 11/12/2012, and it has been successful I lost 150lbs and kept it off (HW 364, LW 205, MW 216-221). However, the GERD has been horrible!!! Waking up aspirating into my lungs in my sleep feeling like I’m dying because I can’t catch my breath and coughing is horrible. Plus I have a hiatal hernia and developed Hypercontractile Peristalsis (Jackhammer Esophagus), SLE (gained 15 being on prednisone for a year) Sjogrens, and PMR (no one else in my family has had any of this). I love my sleeve never considered the RNY before my sleeve. However, the RNY makes me nervous it’s a nagging feeling I’ve had for awhile. My doctor is regarded as one of the top three in my state. I’ve been discussing this with him for two years. Honestly, my concerns are I don’t want anymore health problems. I guess I dunno I want relief but the feeling is still there!!! Send up some extra prayers for me. Check-in is 10am CST Surgery is at noon CST. Starting weight 235 Preop weight 241 (ate everything I could lol) CW: 227. -

Sleeve revision to RNY or Bypass reason
Losingit2018 replied to AchieveGoals's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Thanks for sharing that info. I am set to revise from sleeve to bypass on Friday. I also wish that I had started with bypass. I swore that I would never revise. I do have gerd and hiatal hernia. Plus I only lost about half of excess weight with sleeve. Still the episodes of reflux have not been all that frequent. Here I am the day before surgery. Still wanting to back out. -

I was only doing the bypass because of the reflux and I suffered for a long time. The bypass was so much better and easier. I swear the first sleeve surgery was done wrong but I never checked. Since I came home Thursday I don't need Omeprazole so far I'm doing great. Let's pray I never get the reflux back. You'll do great in surgery and get up and walk around a lot it helps everything moving forward. Good luck[emoji5] Sent from my SM-J337P using BariatricPal mobile app -

Bypass was a cake walk compared to the sleeve. The previous Dr had to have done something wrong. I went in at 12:30 Tuesday, stayed 2 nites and I was home on Thursday. I'm not having any dumping problems, once in a while if I eat too fast. Thank God for Zophran. Otherwise I feel fantastic. During the first six months of nut meetings my SW: 179 SWT:168 CW: 149 When I got the sleeve I was at 238 and Surgery weight 209 I was down to 142 at my lowest, not sure if I'm going to have problems down the line but so far so good. Thank you for your kind thoughts Sent from my SM-J337P using BariatricPal mobile app -
Sleeve revision to RNY or Bypass reason
mlbdl replied to AchieveGoals's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Revised sleeve to bypass last week due to GERD. Sleeve w/hiatal hernia repair 6/2016. 2nd hernia repair 10/17. 3rd hernia repair w/bypass, although originally the surgeon said he wasn’t going to fix it this time. I guess it was so big that he had to. I revised because I was aspirating acid into my lungs. I wish I had pushed for the bypass for the original surgery. I had asked for it because I already had GERD. I was told that I probably had a hernia, he’d fix it, and I’d be fine. Yeah... This recovery is harder from a pain perspective. The incisions are larger. It hurts to cough, sneeze, laugh, sit up, etc. I don’t remember this happening the last time. The surgeon said that he “did more damage” this time cutting me open. 😳 I do feel better every day but it it is different from last time. I also find that my appetite is the same as before the surgery. Last time I didn’t even want to look at food. However, I get nauseous when I eat so I am dropping weight, which I’m please with. I don’t mind losing about 10-15#, but I’m going to have to be careful not to get underweight (now that’s a first for me!). Good luck with whatever you decide. -
Third Time Surgery the Charm?
thirdtimecharmer posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had a lapband in 2012 that did almost nothing and finally slipped in 2015 where it was revised to a sleeve. I lost a tiny bit then started steadily regaining within a year. It turns out that my sleeve surgeon left my sleeve very large. My final and third surgery will obviously be my last, and I am going to be serious and dedicated. I had my sleeve redone plus the SADI-S procedure at 166lbs (5’1”) this morning with Dr. Wihelmy at Mexicali Bariatric. I am in pain but already standing and walking around. Please feel free to ask me any questions. I intend to become an active forum member to hold myself accountable and make some motivational buddies! -
So I’m 5 1/2 days post op from gastric bypass. Still having pain of course but I’m wondering about how long that lasts...pain feels like a pulling burning sensation. I’m not having any other symptoms with it so I’m sure it’s normal but I’m ready to not be in pain.

My journey: The Pain of Starting Over
SorryNameTaken replied to LadyVS's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I just had a band to bypass revision on October 24. It took them a while to get my band out too with all the scar tissue and mine ended up being slipped even though they didn't think i t was going to be. I am so sorry you are dealing with so much pain, I didn't have any real significant pain. But I will tell you, being band-free is SO nice, all the pain should be worth it! Congrats on your revision! -

Hi All I'm having my sleeve revision surgery in two weeks and I'm nervous. Just wondering if anyone has had a revision and would love to hear how it's working for you. How long was the recovery the second time around?

Hey my loves! When I was banded I was told it would be a great idea to have medical bracelet that said I was banded in case of emergency. What are your thoughts on having one when you have The Sleeve or the Bypass? They make some cute ones now. I did order one but I was wondering what others are doing.

Surgery Day! and beyond: Part 2
SorryNameTaken replied to mousecat88's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Girl, yay! I am so excited for you. I'm glad your pain is so well managed. I had a drain after my revision to bypass and I hated every second of it, so more power to you for dealing with four of them. Can't wait to see the end result, especially the dragon tattoo! -
Protein and Weight Loss (unrelated)
Midnightsun replied to lvidacovich's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think you misread my original post. I was saying My nutritionist was Only counting My Liquid protein for my goals. He did not count my Oikos triple zero yogurt as me reaching my protein intake. He wanted to make certain I was absorbing the nutrients I needed. Not that other proteins don’t add up just not every gram of protein is absorbed especially in the beginning. I was on 2 shakes a day and still as everyone else eat your protein first etc. i am now a little over 4 months. I am on (30 grams protein) shake/mix a day pulse to eat my proteins. I can substitute a protein supplement for a meal if I choose. I have been reading up on it too. The reason being our stomach is small, the surface area is small especially in the first few months as it is swollen and as time goes on the swelling goes down and we can eat a little more. With less surface are. Less acids to break down foods, the stomach is also emptying quicker so not holding it there as long; so shorter time to be absorbed/digested. The liquid proteins are already broken down and more easily absorbed into out system. If you google it especially the bypass it actually shows some percentages of what bypass patients actually absorb at different phases after surgery in the medical abstracts. Not saying at goal weight you no longer or do need a shake. That is there general guide/goal they gave me. I was referring what information was given to me and me alone. Medical information changes all the time so I don’t know if this is new information or just something some surgeons are now paying attention to. -
Protein and Weight Loss (unrelated)
Meryline replied to lvidacovich's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@Midnightsun but that is different from what you first said. That they told you that it's only the liquid protein that counts towards your protein count. And that is just not true. That yes, we might absorbe liquid protein (first I have ever heared that though) easier in the beginning, sure, It's easier to get down than food, but all protein counts. I still drink a shake every singel day, and I'm 2.5 years post op. It is to make sure I get the 120-150g of protein that my body needs. The food I eat, counts equally to the shake. It's not like you push a button when you reach goal, that suddenly turns the absortion from food on. It's there all the time. In the beginning you just get more protein from liquids because it's easier to get down. And especially for Gastric bypass, they have discovered that the malabsortion is less than they thought in the beginning. -
Not so easy to make friends here...
Darktowerdream replied to SabrinaGoddess's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I’m fairly new here and just terrible at friendships in general and keeping up with posts I want to answer and can’t always find the energy or words to do so. My journey has been rough but I don’t regret it. Anesthesia hit me hard, then pneumonia and other things. We weigh the risks but sometimes step right in because we know it’s the right thing to do. I hadn’t posted on any forums in a long time due to what happened with a friendship gone wrong. She was like a sister to me. At times I’m wanting to delete what I say and now I try to resist that need. I literally couldn’t move after surgery. Get out of bed or function. But it was time for me to make that choice. I had bypass, my body would have rejected a band. I had bypass due to GERD and BMI of 40. we are all on the road to doing what’s best for us. We feel alone in it and can be hard to open up and discuss on a open forum, I find yes people, talk more when there are problems but it might help someone else down the line. -
My revision date is tentatively set for 12/5
