Refried beans is another option. I'd add a load of fire sauce and then some Greek yogurt on the side, in place of sour cream, since you can't have cheese. I have an unnatural love affair of all things hot and spicy. I hope I can still eat spicy stuffies after the bypass. -
Hi. I am getting bypass on 2/19. I would be happy for a buddy. Lisa

I would recommend either the RNY gastric bypass or sleeve. One individual in our support group went through a revision from a lap band to a RNY. The band was wearing through his stomach. I have heard many other similar stories from individuals, so I would recommend something other than a lap band. -
@@GSleeve822 I had bypass 18 months ago so I don't know if this is different for sleeve patients. Within a few weeks I could drink Water and by drinking I don't mean gulping. I can now drink a 16 oz. bottle in a few minutes but I had to learn not to gulp because even now that air in my tummy can be painful. I try to avoid getting a burp stuck. That makes me feel very uncomfortable. But yes, you will be able to drink water like a normal person.

Well I was suppose to be sleeved aug 19th. As I was lying there waiting to go for surgery, the surgeon, tells me he thinks I should not have the vertical sleeve done because of my servere hiatal hernia repair I had done last year. He suggests a Rny bypass . I was so lnto the sleeve being done, ive done my homework on this sight and I really thought the sleeve was the way I should go. But I guess he knows best but now I have to have that new procedure re submitted to my insurance company which took 2 mos before..ugh so discouraged.

Hello Landy! I haven't been back in awhile so it was nice to get your post! I had gastric bypass on Jan.21, 2009. I have lost 20lbs. in two months and a total of 65lbs. since last July! Where in Bingo are you? -
Hey everyone I'm Kelly I'm 23 from Ohio. I'm scheduled to have my bypass surgery on September 10 at 10:30 in the morning at Akron city hospital!! I'm really not scared or nervous as much as I am excited. For the past few years I have struggled with a bad addiction to food. I was filling gaps in my life by eating horrible foods. After seeking help from an emotional eating counselor and the help of the bariactric team at summa hospital I began my journey last October and decided to undergo laparoscopic rny gastric bypass and I couldn't be happier with my decision. A woman in my pre operative exercise class recommended this app as a way to reach out and meet people that have also/are planning on having the surgery as well, great idea!! So hello!! If anyone has any questions or comments for me please ask!! Once i find my way around this forum I'll probably be asking a few questions of my own!! Anyways here are some pictures of me CW: 289 HW: 305 GW: 150

Emily and Heartfire, thanks for the advice. I did read on the UCD web site they perform the RNY procedure with no mention of the band. That's too bad. As long as I can handle NO, it never hurts to ask though, right? ) If I do have WLS, I absolutely do not want the bypass procedure. It's just too invasive. I've lost 51 lbs. on my own (it's taken me three long years) and if I am denied by insurance, or UCD will only perform the RNY procedure, I will continue on my path until I reach my goal. I may never reach what the BMI charts suggest is a healthy weight, but I will reach a reasonable weight for my frame. Thanks again.

Hi 65toGo, Yes, I had my lapband surgery done by Dr. fuller at UCD in October of 2007. I had Healthnet at the time and everything was covered. I was worried of course but the gals at the clinic assured me that I'd be good. I had previously lost weight using OA and was supervised by my PCP so that helped (even though I gained it all back) my case AND my BMI was over 40. So I'm not sure for you since every insurer is different. But if the surgeon feels that you're a candidate I know they will fight for you. They seem to do a good job of making a case for you. If you have co-morbidities (bp and such) you might be good. I know the band is preferred for lower BMI's in general I guess... Word of caution to you though, UCD is not Pro-Band. I had to fight pretty hard for mine. I think I was only the 8th band they did. Usually they do the band as a back up if you are not considered a good candidate for bypass. Feel free to message me with questions along the way or let me know how your experience is going. If you do get the band through them, Dr fuller himself does all the fills. The nurses are great. I go in once a month for an adjustment. Good luck, let me know how it goes. Emily~

Questions about the operation
Jennifur replied to davethesailor's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good question. I too have chosen not to tell people, only a very few select friends, including 1 who had gastric bypass and my friends who i know will support me. Most of my family doesn't know so I was worried about that too. I am a full time student and need to return right to school the following Monday. Good Luck! -
Band to Sleeve..so many questions and fears
sma102205 replied to sma102205's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks to all for chiming in!! For those who have surgery scheduled this month all the best and please please keep us posted.. For those whom have had success with revision thank you for sharing it is encouraging to hear about your journeys. And for those whom are skeptical of people who use WLS a a crutch.. I see your point but I can only speak for myself and say am I fully in control of my efforts, no..I'm always the first to admit it but the effort I need to put towards any kind of weight loss is 3x more the norm due to my PCOS and after battling this for so long and having that delay things like building a family my BIGGEST demon is to not feel sorry for myself day to day, to not feel like a failure and all I can do is try try try to focus on what I DO have and what I HAVE achieved and hope that in time my body will cooperate.. -
I had sleeve in 2011.Then had severe gerd.Had bypass in Nov 2016.I would just have bypass. If you have sleeve chances are you will need bypass later.

Wow. I'm sorry to hear about your aunt. of course you are scared it's perfectly normal. I had revision surgery too from lapband to the sleeve. I also have my gallbladder removed and a hernia repaired the same day. And like you I get very sick from the anesthesia. I told the anesthesiologist about how badly I react and they gave me medicine through an IV and also a patch behind my ear that helped immensely. I won't lie the first couple of days were rough but by day three I was sitting out at my son's baseball game and on day 4 I was back at my desk job. I'm losing weight better and feel so much healthier than I ever did with my band because I can eat real food and I don't feel hungry all the time. It's nice not to be throwing up all the time of course 2. I just wanted to share that with you good luck in making a decision.

Really nervous about tomorrow
JakeLancaster replied to aloudwhisper's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
aloudwhisper Are you revising to a sleeve? or just removing it? Good luck either way seems like you will be happy to get rid of your band. Embrace not what I want to hear weeks before my revision from band to sleeve but I will be prepared. -
My revision was one in 2 surgeries too. That's the only way my doctor will do it now. He used to do it in one surgery, but he said the chances of a leak are a lot higher (but like you said, still low) with one surgery. I had my band out in March but because of some other things that came up am just having sleeve surgery tomorrow. I hope that by waiting 5 months my stomach will be well healed and that I'll get a nice tight little sleeve.

Sorry typing on tablet. I had bilateral knee replacement that summer. I gain back up to 240lb by the time of my revision last summer. My. Band had caused major problems with my esophagus, so I didn't have to wait to get removed. I am now fluctuating between 195lbs and 200lbs and my goal weight is 170lb. Ideal weight 150lb. Weight loss has been very slow, but I work 2nd shift and don't workout as often as I need to. Good luck

Sorry to hear about all the trouble. Hopefully the leak will close on its own, that's the best case scenario. The feeding tube is giving that time to happen. If it doesn't they hopefully can converts to a bypass. I'd imagine the leak is at the staple line (typically that is where they are). Did they diagnose it with a CT with oral contrast or a barium swallow? (They thought I might have one and we did th CT). Hopefully you're at the tail end of it.

1st appt with Surgeon next week - What do I say?
bandedtigerlily replied to mbomba's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also have tricare prime I just basically said id like to have bariatric surgery for my health and quality of life, I said I was ready to commit to it and understood the decision I was making. I honestly didnt have any issues when I went on base, I just said I want to have bariatric surgery for the reasons I just stated and the doc was like ok lets get things started. Im not saying your doc may be that easy but I couldnt see why they wouldn't put a referral in at your request to better your health. If you have any questions plz ask me ill try and help. I have had lap band surgery already here in Oklahoma on friday I have a revision to also have the plication done... I guess it would be no better of a time for me to write out my journey on here to help others like yourself who have tricare! -
Gastric Sleeve Surgery In Tennessee
kkimm22 replied to Andrews1's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Sounds like it is one day at a time So glad you seem to be doing well! I hope that journey continues and the pain gets less frequent every day for you. Thanks for the information though. I woke up this morning thinking i was crazy for doing this surgery... why would i do this again... i had a Vertical banding put on about 4 years ago and it slipped early on and i have not had good results, so i am "revising" it now.. finally with approval and switching to the sleeve... anyway i just had lots of doubts today, not sure why.. but then i went shopping at kohls to get some new PJ's for when i get home after hospital next week.. and the mirror said it all.. that is the answer... i need to get healthier and this surgery will give the restriction and discipline needed to get there!! i will sip my water and take my pain pills and hope for the best results possible. Keep me posted on how you are doing if you care too keep up the good work! -
Insurance vs Mexico
allycatt98 replied to allycatt98's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Thanks Nola, That is a good point. The doc I chose in Florida is considered the "grandfather" bariatric surgery here. He was the first in the state to perform the sleeve using the Spider technique. I think he's performed over 12,000 surgeries in addition to being a bypass patient himself. So he's definitely qualified, but that doesn't mean that he's the only one that can perform the surgery safely. Ally
