Exercising more than ever & barely loosing

I own a fitness centre based on the Curves concept. Everything that Wheetsin said is bang on right. Take your measurements.....I'm sure you'll notice a difference there.....you don't always have to measure a favourable change in your body by the scale. A pound is a pound....so a pound of muscle weighs the same as a pound of fat....however, volume is where the two are different. A pound of fat takes up more space on your body than a pound of muscle. Also, when you engage in an active consistant exercise routine your body will automatically start to retain Water to protect it from dehydrating...hence, one more reason the scale may not be showing a significant drop. Healthy muscle mass is instrumental in weight loss. Like Wheetsin said...it boosts the metabolism therefore increasing your fat burning ability. Continue to eat properly, lots of Protein, because the body is only capable of losing 2 pounds of body fat per week, if you are losing more than that it is coming from lean tissue and muscle mass.....and we already know why we need to protect and enhance our muscle mass. Keep up the exercise...in the long run you will thank yourself for it...you will begin to notice much more than just a change in your body size....you will breathe better, sleep better, have increased appetite control, and have an increase in stamina and endurance (hope I don't offend you but even sex gets better!) Also, it will not eliminate the problem of sagging skin, but if the muscles under the sagging skin are toned and strong it does help a bit. It depends a lot on your age too, but the skin has a chance of looking better if there is strong toned muscle underneath. Hope this info makes you feel a bit better regarding your concerns. Carol

Exercising more than ever & barely loosing

You are plateauing b/c you aren't eating enough. If you as active as I am then you need to up your protein and carbs. Your body is stuck at a cycle where you maintain b/c it's used to your caloric intake. If you "UP" your calories and still have the same workout routine.. your body will then "let go" of starvation mode and allow you to lose again. Try it for a week. Up your calories by 200 a day. Eat more carbs... eat a potato right after a workout and up your protein to about 170g per day, 99 - 120 carbs per day and watch the weight come off.

Exercising more than ever & barely loosing

That's what happened to me several times. I would finally just let go and eat more and "BAM", the loss would surprise me. Lately I've been on a plateau and a friend reminded me to "just eat more" and my weight is coming off again, actually I need to update my sig info. Try not to weigh everyday if you can help it. Weigh once per week and at first, you'll probably eat more and see that the scale hasn't gone up or down, it's the same which is cool b/c you are eating more. Then a week or so later, the scale moves down.

    Replace

You can get a box of about 1000 packets of Stevia at Costco. It's around $11.99. The other week they had a $3 instant coupon! The brand name for it is PureVia.

Sick And Less Than A Week To Surgery

I can't take any "medicine" now & I'm a week pre-op too - I use Airborne when I'm feeling icky. I've actually used Airborne a few times while on the pre-op diet now just to boost my vitamin levels & make sure I don't get sick now! Good luck!!! Also make sure to get plenty of fluids (although you're probably already doing that)!

Sick And Less Than A Week To Surgery

I was told tylenol was ok...I am sorry to hear that! I am one week away with three people in my house that have colds...so I am praying I don't get it too!!

    Women Only!

I got mine 3 days after surgery ... But it was expected since they recommended to be off the birth control for a month out before surgery. I have heard that your hormones change due to the fluctuations in weight.

    I am so tired

It's perfectly normal this soon after surgery. I was pretty active post op but needed a nap each day for the first few weeks. Just listen to your body and take the rest as needed.

    Exercise with a cold?

I have a sneaky feeling that I have a cold coming on...my eyes feel gritty, and my throat is scratchy. So, what I'm wondering is how that might affect my exercise. I typically go to the gym every day, doing a spinning class daily and strength training 2-3 days a week. Do I continue to go even with a cold? Take a OTC cold med before going? Or, take some time off? Or maybe workout at home? Is it rude to show up at the gym with obvious cold symptoms? I hate the idea of anything knocking me off track, but I also want to do what's best for my body and to be considerate of others. Any advice? Tami

    Mortons Neuroma

I have a friend who is being treated for the Morton's Nueroma. She was seeing one podiatrist who recommended surgery to have them removed. he would have preformed the surgery through the top of the foot. Because she switched insurance in the process she had to see another Podiatrist who treated her with shots for about 8 weeks or more and has now asked to wait a month to see if it gets better. If not then he will do surgery only he will go under through the bottom of the foot. She has also been taking lyrica for pain which is suppose to be like a Vitamin for the the nerves and is not suppose to cause any side effects however I had to take thie at one point and gained 10 pounds in a week from retaining Water. She is currently taking 2 pills a day that is for reducing edema and high blood pressure. If you do not find anyone else on here but have some more specific questions let me know and I will ask her. Good Luck! I know how bad/painful this can be from watching her suffer.

    Vitamins??

I have already started taking my post op vitamins to get used to the chewables. I take 1 Centrum adult chewable and 2-3 Tums a day for the calcium. After surgery I'll add in some type of fiber supplement, like metamucil and pepcid for acid control.
  17. Hi everyone. I had surgery 9/4 and I am doing good. No nausea or vomiting. The gas pains are more or less gone after day 6. I had my 1st followup last Friday and the doctor is allowing me to move up to soft foods. I was on a liquid diet day 1 to 5, the mushies for 2 weeks, then soft food for another 2 (I believe). Starting this Friday, I can eat anything. Has anyone been able to move on to regular foods this fast?

    Anybody on here Jump Rope???

While your healing, I wouldnt advice it. I just had my band last week, and when I am walking up or down stairs I can feel the stitches moving
  19. I would suggest to allow your self time to heal. When in doubt, don't do it. My surgery was 1/23/12 and I waited a month and tried just a 10 lb weight and I felt a burning sensation at the incision where the scope is. I did not pick up a weight again until just the beginning of this month and they are 3 lb weights. I do a high intensity short circuit training where it's mostly focused on my core but I do boxing with the weights and I have found this to be suitable enough for me. I don't want to be ripped, just lean & tone. I waited until a little over 2 months to start. The worst thing would be to rupture or tear something because you're pushing yourself too fast. Best of Luck!

    Strength training?

Yoga is an awesome form of strength training. I work out like crazy like walking, jogging, calistetics, ankle and wrist weight exercises, medicine ball and I just started yoga a few days ago. Let me tell you that the yoga has gotten me the most sore out of all the exercises. I felt every single muscle in my body hurt later that day. It was also too the most relaxing form of exercise. My daughter and I walked 4 miles and then I let her play at the park while I did yoga in the shade. I LOVED IT! I'm planning to do it again today. Go on YouTube and theres several workouts you can stream from your phone. You hold he positions so you're able to pause your phone between moves. ~Leticia **HW: 259**PreOp: 216**SURG: 3/21/13 **Discharged @: 221**9 weeks post op. CW: 182.6 lbs. ---ONE-DERLAND ---

    Strength training?

So I am 5 weeks post op RYN, 3 weeks post op bowel obstruction. I am ready to slowly start adding strength training but I'm a rookie... Does anyone have a suggestion where to start? Does yoga count as strength training? I don't have a gym membership and I'm not ready to get one yet.

    Exercise questions

Hi, I think that is a bit excessive too. I have been losing weight steadily for the past 2 1/2 months (still very new) as I have been losing I have gained oodles of energy. I workout about 5 times a week now but not for an hour each time. The days when I am really busy I try to do higher intensity exercise and on the weekends I do longer walks. I think you should just try and do as much as you can and you will see that you will soon feel like doing more.

    Pain in chest

You shouldnt of had the soup. Follow your doctors plan. For the first 3 days you are to be on clear liquid only. Cream of chicken soup is to heavy and you should only be sipping liquids all day long. Then when you go on full liquids which consists of protein shakes, you only drink like 2 oz at a time every hour. While sipping water or sugar drinks in between. You body hasnt heal from the operation, Remember the band is sewed to your stomach so you have stiches inside that have to heal. The pain should go away. Very importat to do what your doc says.

    Mountain (trail) biking

I would wait the 6 weeks. I started riding 2 weeks out and I can tell you the port hurts like heck and remains sore. Let the port heal properly before putting strain on the muscle that the port is attached to. Just my opinion.
