It is possible that i am in a bander hell! Its also possible that life is hard right now. Of course i am making the best of this and i WILL NOT GIVE UP!!!! ok so here is my problem and just so everyone knows i am working through it! I will win this fight i really will! Ok so last month i couldn't eat at all and that is hard no matter what so they took out .4cc's not to much and i did just fine. This time i went back and they put in .5cc's so yeah i was kinda worried. But i thought they know what they are doing right? Ok so the first day i could eat i tried a hamburger patter on my lunch break with my boss and i throw up everything NOT fun. so today i go black eyed peas and it seem to go down but im only eating about 10% or less and I feel tired real fast and then i feel hungry and its actually hunger not head hunger so ill go back and eat a little more. I went to my regular dr today because i got a spider bite and well that's not fun either but in the past week i have lost a good 8lbs. AWESOME for me because i thought with all the eating that's really good well now that i think about it that's not really so good 8lbs since Monday..... Idk maybe it in my head i am having issues and i honestly don't know what to do i don't want any thing taken out of my band so should i be worried or should i just go with it?? can someone help me?

Keeping the band a "secret"???
threebeauties replied to kity's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I chose to keep it to myself. I told DH and two close friends. I didn't even tell my young daughters. I figured if I did, every soccer mom within a 10 mile radius would know:nervous I am a fairly private person. I do not want to talk about my weight or my weight loss regularly. I am afraid that everywhere I go people will be asking me "how much have you lost this week, etc" the band can be a slow process for some and I want to avoid the negative comments, etc. I am even uncomfortable talking about the weight I've lost! I plan on telling my sisters farily soon. Most others don't need to know. -

What a great humorous relief to read today!!! From the commercials to the small boy band playing in my stomach all day, I can totally related to your post! I am amazed at the food commercials from 5:00-10:00 with high levels of calories and fat content. During the day it seems a little better with the yogurt commercials but still. It is everywhere you look. I am not looking forward to having a meeting with my staff and my stomach decides to have a Lady Gaga concert right there in the room! -
advice wanted: calorie counts and losing last pounds
much2gain posted a topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I need advice and I'm curious about how others got to their goal weight. I've had my lap band for a year and a half. I've lost 130 pounds after the band (211 total) and have 40-50 more pounds to go until my personal goal. I workout 4-6 times a week; spin class, weights/barbell strength class, cycling outside, TRX, light running, Water aerobics. My average calorie intake a day is 1300 and I generally don't eat back my calories after working out. I get 70-100g Protein per day and drink about 100oz of water a day. I have my moments of weakness but they are still generally within my daily calorie count; Peanut Butter is my weakness. About once every 10-14 days I'll go over my calorie count by 500-800 calories to mix things up. -- I have a 10cc band and it's filled to about 9 right now. But, I don't feel much restriction. I can still nibble on just about anything, but I can't eat even close to what I used to; I can handle eggs at dinner but not Breakfast, I can eat raw veggies in small bites/quantity, sweets go down way to easy, white bread is tough but crackers are fine. My diet is usually yogurt and coffee with sweat cream for breakfast, low carb lunch around 300 calories (cottage cheese and canned salmon is a good example), dinner varies and usually has higher carbs since I'm a muncher but still count calories and around 400 calories. I'm stuck and I can't seem to lose anything!!! I have a body lift (major plastic surgery) scheduled at the end of September and my Dr would like me to lose 20-30. It's still 6 months off but I need to lose it now! What kinds of things do you recommend to get this last 40-50 off.. heck, even just the 20-30? When people say it gets harder, they aren't kidding!! I know that your comments are simply that and not doctor's advice so feel free to be open with your responses. Also, band veterans, what is your average calorie count per day? Again, I know that everyone is different but I'm just really curious. It seems that low is normal and healthy for weight loss surgery folks but I would really like feedback. (My stats: 5'10", current weight 250) -
Hi! I am about 10 days postop from having the sleeve, and as a lot of people, I am having trouble getting all of my meals in. I was wondering if anybody had any tips such as setting a timer to remind you to have a meal, and if you did set a timer, how often did you set it for?

I asked my doctor about the shoulder pain and he told me that they've made great strides in that area by using humidified air to blow up your stomach. I'm hoping that the discomfort is minor. I had a laporoscopy done about 10 years ago and that shoulder pain sucked!! -
Newbie from Minnesota looking for support.

Hi, I am from the Twin Cities and had RNY on June 25, 2013 at St. Joe's in St. Paul. I have had a wonderful, complication free experience. I just celebrated 10 months and am down 186 pounds (40 was lost pre-surgery), The lead up to surgery takes time and patience, but can be done. The life that is waiting for you on the other side of surgery is SO worth it! If you have questions, please feel free to ask. I am on this site frequently. I have recieved so much support for the people on this site and would love to pay it forward. Congratulations on taking the first step! Carol -
Ready to give up on trying to lose weight
joatsaint replied to curlychic32's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The pre-op diet was the toughest part of WLS for me. I had to live on low carb shakes and lean Protein - chicken breast and pork loin. The head hunger was killing me. I wish I could give you my "knowing" of what it's like on the other side of WLS. If you had it, you'd be looking forward to everyday of your pre-op diet. WLS is THAT life changing. WLS was worth every pain, hassle and sacrifice I had to make. But I did create a video with some pre-op diet tips. I hope they help ease your "adventure" in WLS. :-) Get my free eBook - The Top 10 WLS Fears and How to Kick Their Butt! -
I went to Mexico. I went alone too. It was great. Half the price including airfare. Went back to work 10 days later. It was well worth the money! I work at a hospital and they did everything we do. Clean, nurse hand off's, frequent nurse checks. Quick response time to answer the bell. Everyone spoke good English. Oh and it took like two weeks to get everything arranged. I am healthy so I didn't need to do the sleep studies, psych visits, blood clot checks and other crud they make you do here in the states. I have face book messenger to talk to my dietician and her email and phone number as well.

So my nutritionist requires you lose 10% of your body weight (14 pounds) before surgery. I started a diet the day after seeing her which will be exactly 4 weeks this Saturday. In that time I've dropped 20 pounds...this happens everytime I diet. I drop weight quick then it stalls and i gain...will I be disqualified for losing too much weight???

Annoyed...gained three pounds
ChristineR replied to varg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did the same even though my NUT didn't recommend it LOL I was at the 9 week mark (10 week with preop) and I kept bouncing between these 2 pounds. It's finally coming off and I've lost those 2 and another 2. It took two weeks though. The stall happened as soon as I bumped up my cardio and started jogging. -
3 Months, 42 Pounds and going SLLOOWWWW!
VSGKasey posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I seem to be losing 10 pounds a month (including my preop diet). I started at 240, so not too terribly high, but I'm out three full months now and only down 42 pounds. I need to be down another 18 pounds by the end of september to be ready for my breast reduction/lift and I'm so nervous! I have been running 3-9 miles a week trying to push it so hard but the slowing down is killing me. I'm trying to remember that it's not just weight, but measurements and muscle. I lost 6 inches in my waist last month so i know I'm shifting weight to muscle, but it's hard not to feel discouraged. pics attached, first one in black outfit is before, then suit jacket and animal print recent pics How is everything going for my fellow April sleevers?!!?!?!? get another doctor, if i felt i needed an additional 50# off then I would look elsewhere, if you had 10-15 # left then that I could tolerate....good luck! -
Thanks you guys! I'm going to weigh again tomorrow and see if there is still that big a difference. If it is only 1 lb different I won't change anything but if it's two or more I will. I do like my new scale and in the long run a few lbs isn't going to make that much of a difference. My old scale only measured in .5 lb increments and my new one goes to .10 lb. Increments. Now that I'm past the first month post op I am going to cut back from daily weigh ins to once or twice a week. So lesson learned for preops -- buy your nice scale before surgery so you can avoid disappointments down the road!

Amylou, We're on the same schedule! I started my 10-day pre-op liquid diet yesterday, too! I had a hard day today . . . headache all day long, semi-nauseous, and HUNGRY. However, I am following the diet to the letter and know I will make it. The key for me was to find Protein shakes that I liked. I bought Optimum Nutrition 100% whey Gold Standard powder in Extreme Milk chocolate, and also in vanilla. I've mixed it into Cream of Rice, Soup, and have had some pretty tasty and filling smoothies (with Greek yogurt). Hang in there -- it's gotta get easier!

TvlGrl712 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Including my 1 week pre-op liquid diet, I've only lost 13 lbs. I just thought it would be more. I know Im not getting in enough liquids, but that seems to be getting easier every day. Just wondering what others are seeing who have sleeved around the same time (8/13)? -
Weight gain in first couple days after surgery ?
lisac22067 replied to Dub's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had surgery Tuesday, 10/13, gained 9 pounds post op but was down three of those today. -
I'll be 64 on October 1 & just had my sleeve four days ago. I wish I could have had this done many, many years ago, but I had to wait for medicine to get to where I needed it to be. As a nurse I was just never comfortable with the malabsorption aspects of gastric bypass & I was excited to find out about the VSG & that my insurance covers it. I researched the surgeons covered by my insurance & made the call. My doctor is particularly strict & I have followed his instructions from my first consult on April 25. From the time I left his office that day I was on a high protein/low carb diet until 2 weeks prior to surgery when I went on a modified clear liquid diet of 4 Protein shakes & all the Clear liquids I wanted a day. I had also done a 1-week "trial" of the clear liquids back in June to see how I tolerated it. I took that 3+ months to wean myself off of caffeine & carbonated drinks by having a little less each day until I was off & can honestly say I haven't missed them. My starting weight at that first consult was 303 pounds & the day before surgery I was 259! A loss of 44 pounds in just under 4 months! I do weigh myself daily on my Withings WS-30 digital wireless scale but I don't obsess about the numbers. As expected, I did gain "Water weight" in the hospital & went up to 264.9 pounds. But, today, on post-op day 4, I'm down to 263.6. I never expected to be able to lose the 10% of my weight pre-op as I've always been one who not only gains back what I lose but have a very difficult time losing in the first place. I am continuing to follow my surgeon's instructions to the letter because it sure has worked so far.

Old habits rearing their ugly head again! YIKES!
beachplum replied to bigloser2014's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am going through the same thing. I haven't hit goal yet, but I am close. I had surgery 10 months ago and have lost 139 pounds so far. For the last month or so, I've been letting myself have popcorn and a few bagels. It's such a slippery slope, and it has stopped my weight loss in its tracks. I can't help but wonder if I'm suddenly eating these foods again not because they're my favorite, but because so many people have made such a big deal about my loss (in a positive way) that maybe psychologically I don't like the attention? I have read that people like myself get big to hide behind it. And now that I'm getting attention, I'm uncomfortable with it. I don't know for sure that's the answer, but it's a theory. Even on my wedding day I didn't care to be the center of attention. So I might be onto something. -

I wouldn’t throw in the towel just yet, your system needs to adjust, 10 days is not very long. -

Thyroid Issues...anyone Else?

Hello, I was hyperthyroid but had all symptoms of hypo. My blood level is normal and has been for 10 years but my hypo symptoms have not gone away. I am getting sleeved on March 28, 2013 so I hope this doesnt prevent my weight loss. I dont think it will. I am on the preop diet and have lost 15 pounds since March 14 which is 10 days. -

I just got on the forum to see if I could find out anything about periods and stumbled on this post. I was sleeved on 10/23, and I'm down 50 pounds :-). I'm also in ketosis, but I'm having the opposite problem with my period. I've had three periods in the last month and a half. Any input would be great because I've always had normal monthly periods. It's frustrating because I'm breaking out with pimples on my neck and back, and it stalls my weight loss. Thanks for your help!
