IMissVegas replied to time4mefinally's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm having a band to sleeve revision and Dr Roshek at Nicholson Clinic says it will be day surgery. I'm a little worried about the car ride home. Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App -
Band to Sleeve Revision July 7th, comfort me too:D
MonicaW posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
So, back in 2006 I had a band put in....I did pretty well, went from 235 to my lowest was about 148, but I was throwing up a lot. Last year I started just not being able to tolerate the constant throwing up, etc, anymore and back in Feb. they had to take all the Fluid out of my band because I could not keep anything down...AGAIN.....Of course my weight has been up over this past year with my struggles. I'm at about 170 right now. I guess I just wonder if I was puking my guts up nearly every day, and weighed 160ish, how in the world is the sleeve going to work for me if it's so 'much more comfortable' than the band. I'm scheduled for surgery with Dr. Ortiz in Mexico at the OCC July 7th and start my liquid diet June 16th. I'm scared but optimistic too from reading these posts. Even if I just could maintain at about 160ish I'd be content, I just don't want to gain it all back, you know? I just hope and pray that this is the tool I need and that it's not a bust, especially since I am so financially and emotionally invested. -
Anyone revised from sleeve to bypass
krisk12786 replied to CurvyCakes's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am getting revised from the sleeve 4/20. Severe gerd and esophageal dismotility. I have been wondering the same thing. Did your doctor give you any idea on weight loss? I know it will be slower, I kinda just want to loose the bit I have put on because of the limitation on what I can eat. -
Dracut, MA here. I had sleeve revision to bypass done on 6/18

JulieNYC's medial thigh lift, breast augmentation and mons lift
JulieNYC replied to JulieNYC's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I'm home! No more surgeries! YEAAAAAAAAAAAAA! OK, so this one wasn't SO bad. At least it hasn't been thusfar. They didn't start the surgery until about 3 p.m. yesterday and it took almost 6 hours, so it was 9 before I got to recovery! Since it was so late, they wanted me to spend the night, which was fine with me. Got to a room around 11. They'd taken the catheter our -- I don't even remember them doing that, but anyway, they kept pestering me to urinate, so I did, then settled down to sleep until about 5. I slept really well. So, we did quite a bit. We did the implants. I can't tell you much about them yet -- can't see the boobs at all because they're so wrapped up. They feel good, if that means anything at this point. By that I mean that they feel heavier but not too heavy -- kind of like a hug. I'm sure that makes no sense! Then we did a revision to my lower TT, combined with a mons lift. Can't see that either right now and have no impression of it. When he was marking me with a sharpie before surgery, it seemed like there was a lot of skin to take off there, so I'm hopeful. It's one of those things where even if there's just a modest improvement, it'll be a lot better. Oh, yes, and I got a low profile port while I was there. I think that's going to be GREAT. I'm sure there's swelling, but for the moment, I can't feel the port from pressing on my stomach, so I bet it makes a huge difference. TBD. Lastly, we did the inner thighs. OK, pals, this one is painful. The incision for me goes from the knee all the way up into the groin and at the top, it's quite painful. It's not HORRIBLE, but it's definitely the most tender spot this time.... So, pics to come in a few days once I'm feeling better. Take care all, and happy holidays. Julie -
Oh, Just Another Plastics Story
GreenTealael replied to GreenTealael's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Update! Not much has changed so just a quick pic, nearly 11 months post MMO Actually one thing is that I unintentionally tanned deeply during the summer months so ALL of my Incisions darkened, even my old lap scars. c'est la vie. I'm a Fitzpatrick IV/V skin type so par for the course It doesn't bother me & I'm not worried about it because they're well hidden underneath underwear but I will need to address it at some point either through scar revision or some other modality Plastics totally changed my silhouette so no big deal -

FloraBama Girl replied to knippenjen42's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I live in Orlando. I had sleeve surgery in Aug 2011. Because of horrible reflux I had revision surgery to a Mini Gastric Bypass. I used BariatricPal and had surgery in Tijuana, MX. It was a very good experience. My surgeon was Dr. Illan at florence Hospital. I would like a local support group too. Once a month a least. -
I need to hear from Sleeve to Bypass revision!Help!
Lisa's Hope replied to Lisa's Hope's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I've decided not to have revision. I've read of so many complications and I'm taking my chances with theBile reflux, Gerd, esophageal spasms I have now. Even though they bypass and you don't feel burn anymore, it does nothing for spasms and also the ulcers which GB is famous for. I've read of people on feeding tubes and more surgery to remove the ulcers. One young woman is really having a hard time. They have no more stomach to work with. No, not all have problems with GB but a lot do. So I guess it is what it is for me. There is a new procedure called Stretta Procedure and it helps the LES stay closed. Researching this for sleeve patients. Thanks to all for your input. -
I need to hear from Sleeve to Bypass revision!Help!
Ballermom replied to Lisa's Hope's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Artsong, have you started the process yet, to revision. -
Ya know I had that feeling! My doctors office told me on day 1 it was covered now by them as of just a few months ago but something is just not sitting right with me. I had a feeling it wasn't. I don't want the bypass. Now I'm really bummed ???? So did you pay for your sleeve out of pocket? I may end up just doing just that myself. Thanks for your information Hello Cladd, my husband is active duty Navy. As you know, we have Tricare prime. I had the sleeve done Dec 30, 2013. And BC of almost 2yrs of a stricture and acid reflux, I had to have a revision to GBP on Dec 4, 2015. Unless something changed recently, they pay for the sleeve. Hope this helps and sorry if this is a repeat answer, I didn't read the entire posts. Good luck:)

Everyone's losing weight faster than me
abs6angels replied to asweet_sleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Glad I found this thread, my revision was 4/18/16 and so far 35 lbs down. Was sooooo discouraged cause I have a friend who got it done (just sleeve not band to sleeve) and is down 79 and she got it done 2 wks after me. Now that I've read everyone's post, I feel much better. I've even had some cheat meals, but haven't gained anything. -
I had the sleeve back in 2012. I could eat whatever I wanted and never dumped. That may be why I gained all my weight back. So I just had it revised to the bypass and I was curious about the dumping. I've heard its pretty bad. Hopefully I'm one of the ones that never dumps. Thanks for sharing!

I had the sleeve but I had it revised to the gastric bypass. I have gone 10 days once without having a bm. I don't have cramps I feel nothing like I don't have to go.
-
Yep, I'm doing great and the revision went very smoothly! When they got in there they found that my stomach had herniated up into my chest cavity which is obviously very abnormal and could have been the source for some of my pain. Surgery was supposed to be about an hour and a half and it took them a total of four hours to get my stomach pulled back down to the right place and then of course do the bypass. When I got out of surgery I was in a lot of pain and the next day was in tons of pain but ever since that third day things have gotten better and better. I have no pain with swallowing anymore and I'm eating more solid food now then I have in 2 years!! I feel great, have tons of energy, am doing great in class and my whole future looks 100x brighter now. I can't even begin to describe how happy I am that I did this, it's already drastically changed my life and it's only been a month! I've also lost 20 pounds since pre-op so that's a cool bonus! I'm progressing well and was just cleared for exercise which is exciting since I actually have the energy to go to the gym they keep telling me this is the part of recovery where you have the least energy but I think that I was in so much pain before that this feels great and if it really gets EVEN better I just don't know what I'll do with myself lol I'm back to the old straight A kickin butt student that I was before I had surgery I keep acing quizzes and exams, doing great in my lab (even though it's 3 hours with no air conditioning, sitting down, eating, or drinking allowed!) and am finishing all the homework early, heck I'm even back to having time to re-org all my notes..I don't sleep all the time so I just have all this extra time, it's CRAZY! My mom asked me why I think I'm doing so well in my classes because she's seen me struggle for my B's over these last few years and I could honestly tell her it's because I feel so good, we both cried. I just never thought this was possible, it amazes me every single day. YAY!!!!!

Band To Sleeve In Single Surgery?
ChaChaBurch replied to ChaChaBurch's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Just an update: I had my revision on 3/22 and I have to say it was the best thing I've done in a long, long time! It was done in one surgery and lasted only 2.5 hours -- and he was able to do it lapriscopically! I am so happy with my sleeve! No more getting stuck, no more sliming! I am on the "soft/mushy" phase, but so far it's been well worth it! -
Band To Sleeve In Single Surgery?
blondeej replied to ChaChaBurch's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This just makes me SICK. OK, I can see the list of excuses they can more than likely come up with as to why they can't TREAT you since your revision - but to not even allow you to attend the SUPPORT GROUP!? What a crock of bologna. This right here is one of the many reasons I have little respect for american bariatric doctors. They're all crooks. And when you don't want to willingly and without questions shell out 40k to them for a surgery that costs them a quarter of that if not less they get all butt hurt and send you packing. So much for compassion for the patients and wanting to see them succeed. GRRRR!!!! I am so glad you're doing well now - and to hell with that doc. Goodness! >:o/ -
Those of you who are banded, do you exercise?
dorothy.roden replied to sleepyjean's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I exercise four times per week. Running and cross-trainer. I have just went thru revision surgery and it is helping me combat this weight gain that I have struggled with since unfill, surgery, barely any fill, etc. If I didn't eat crap I probably would loose. But for me 153 is ok, not really where I liked previously. I felt more comfortable in a size 8 and 140 lbs. But until I am restricted I struggle? Go figure. I also am almost 4 years out so the doc said my stomach isn't a normal virgin one that would respond to the band like it did in the beginning. As long as I am restricted and keep my eating to 1 cup to 1.5 cups eating wise choices, exercising I was able to loose. best wishes to you. Dody -
Just converted my Sleeve to the SADI-S and have millions of questions....
wlssuccess replied to wlssuccess's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I'm feeling I on all the stuff u notes girl. I've been pretty lucky so far with the weight loss, but last time my body also responded really well to the surgery. It's of course coming off slower than last time, but a million times faster than when I kept trying and failing over and over again to lose the damn regain on my own. I'll be 1 month out in 3 days and I've dropped 17 pounds....very happy with that. A contributing factor might have been that I was back on soft solids after 1 week, not my doctors advice, but I knew my tummy hadn't changed, I just needed to be careful with my intestines. I can't begin to express again how much ur feedback and experiences are appreciated. I've had literally no one to talk to who had this revision with no change to their tummy so I've had to make everything up as I've gone along. So u taking the time to share ur experience with me is literally invaluable. Oh, I've been vlogg in my entire journey since 2010 on YouTube (cecelialane) ...check it out so we can "meet" and email me anytime at cecelia@wlssuccesswithcecelialane.com. I'm also on IG, ooVoo, Facebook (Cecelia Brown Lane) and Messenger So happy things are improving for u too. Now I'm pootying primarily just in the mornings, albeit about 6 times. Buta till, it's a relief. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Body contouring recovery time
ksgypsy replied to ClareLynn's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I had a lower body lift, arm lift and breast revision on January 25, 2023. My Surgeon implants a pain pump (a medical device he invented) in the abdominal area that lasts about 3 days after surgery so I really had much less pain than anticipated. I feel pretty good so I constantly have to remind myself not to do too much and jeopardize my recovery. My main area of soreness are my arms. The itching is the most difficult issue I'm having. My Plastic Surgeon, Dr. John LoMonaco in Houston, TX, co-wrote a book on plastic surgery specifically for bariatric patients. "Bariatric Plastic Surgery: A Guide to Cosmetic Surgery after Weight Loss". I found it on Amazon/Thrift Books and it's a great resource! If you're researching Surgeons, I highly suggest you check him out. He is a truly gifted Surgeon who specializes in Bariatric Patients, and in addition is an excellent human being! Best of Luck! -
band to sleeve (bcbs horizon?)
josiek1988 replied to lori72492's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had band to sleeve revision on 10/26/16. I could not be happier with my decision! It is true that because of the restriction of the band, you may not lose as fast. But you will definitely be able to tell the difference. Just remember, everyone's journey is different and what happens for them may not be the same for you. Follow the rules, eat right, exercise, keep your head up and keep your eyes on the prize. Best of luck -
What to bring with me to Mexio?
Berry78 replied to thabenski's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I just went to Mexico on the 20th. Dr. Illan. I thought I would just be lounging around the hotel room for 2 days after surgery. How wrong I was! The valet had us out walking (optional) both days. I was out for 5 hours the first day, and 8 hours the second. I brought too many pjs and not enough real clothes. The real clothes should have a stretchy waist, as your abdomen will be swollen. Good walking shoes are a must. I did notice the virgin sleeves had the easiest recovery. Bypasses and revisions are harder. Don't know what it is like with other surgeons... -
Revision from sleeve to bypass
A_new_sara posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I'm looking for some information on those who have had a revision from sleeve to bypass. I'm 5 months post-op from my vsg surgery and my stomach has severe stenosis and two strictures along with gastroparesis. They are unable to treat it with dilation so I'm going in on Monday to have a revision. I just don't know what to expect. Is there anyone out there with any advice? September Sleevers- How are you feeling??
OneYearLater replied to Ash_Bri85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Me too. I originally had the band but it dislodged soon after. I've since been diagnosed with diabetes and decided to revise into the sleeve to help with it. Blood sugar was great the first couple of weeks but is slowly starting to creep up again. Disappointed that I'll have to probably start up low doses of insulin again but glad that it's less meds than before still. It's so hard to understand why it's raising again considering that I eat such low low carbs right now (2 1/2 weeks out) -
4 Years Out W/ Band...now Looking At Gastric Sleeve
hrtgoeson replied to TaiDyed's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You and I could be the same person. I felt the same way. My insurance wouldn't have covered the sleeve back when I got banded so I would have gotten the band no matter what because there was NO WAY I would have bypass. Despite the fact that I've only lost 6 lbs in the 2 months I've been revised I still would do it. There's a reason the band is nicknamed the 'crap-band'. I haven't thrown up once in the last 2 months and life is a LOT easier without have to worry about whether I'm going to have to pull over to throw up on my way home from dinner out. DO IT!!! I would never ever recommend the band to anyone. -
Port revision
Jean McMillan replied to Hopefully's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had a port revision because my port flipped over after 2-1/2 years of no problems. I didn't even know it until my surgeon and her NP began having trouble accessing my port. My surgeon didn't know what could have caused it to flip, partly because she's not the one who did my band placement. She says it could have been a failed suture, or stress on the abdominal fascia during a workout. Anyway, after the revision it stayed put and since she relocated my port deeper (so I no longer had a bulge there) and away from my waist (where it used to rub against my clothes, kitchen counter, etc.) I was happy with the results. I can't comment on the 1% chance of needing a port revision because I'm not a statistician or medical professional, and not inclined to believe statistics anyway (a boss once told me, "figures can lie, and liars can figure"), and can't comment on whether your port is pressing on a nerve (never heard of that), but I've encountered quite a few people whose port flipped. I understand why you're not feeling too swift about this turn of events, but a port revision is not the worst thing that could happen to a WLS patient. Hard as it may be to imagine, a year from now that revision will be a distant memory.
