3rd Revision- RNY,band over bypass, D—Switch
BayougirlMrsS replied to HamHockSkye's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
My understanding is the DS is a very high risk SX. And if this doesn't work you have no other options. With the band you can pretty much do any of the other WLS Sleeve you can go to MGB, RNY, DS, SIPS RNY you could do the band over BP or you can even to a revision to the MGB, DS or SIPS... But i'm not 100% -
I had revision surgery on March 16 as well, i feel you're pain. I keep seeing everything happy at the dinner table while I am left to the side hungry with a bowl of cream of wheat.

Good Morning, My name is Jeanette, I am 30 year old, 5'4 and 240 lbs. I was so excited this morning because I got my surgery date set for Nov 7th! Now I am scared...I came on to start posting and another group caught my eye. I went in to Lap Band Complications and all these people are talking about erosion and dilated esophagus, ,revisions, slippage and removal....Seriously, this stuff happens? I want the lap band to help aid in my weight loss. I need to get healthy for myself and my children. I have tried everything to help but nothing. So I looked up lap band and it seems like a great tool in weight loss but now Im reading all those posts I am second guessing my decision. Is it common to have to remove your lap band because of these things? I am just really scared now, sorry guys...

I'm having my revision on March 11th. I was scheduled originally for December, and got cold feet. I've had some time now to better mentally prepare. This board has helped so much with putting things in perspective. My fears are bleeding and leaking. But I trust in God, my surgeon, and positive thinking. KajunGumbo- did your surgeon mention anything about using bigger staples for the scar tissue the band may have created?

Thank you ladies, I have my consult for a revision on 12/15. I'm also going to a seminar on the 11th. I should be well prepared. I hope, though, my surgeon doesn't freak when he sees my weight. This time around, I can barely stand, walk very short distances with a Rollator and am on oxygen. I'm a walking comorbidity. I hope they can do the revision to RNY in one shot. I pray.

Anyone go to Mexico and have Gastric Bypass with Dr. Fernando Garcia?
@RealScoobyDoo replied to Lorilah's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I used Dr Garcia 3/2013. We were the first day of surgery at Florence Oasis Hospital (I think they changed to a different one.) great experience 100%. But I'm going back for a revision to Mini Bypass, and Dr Garcia is a lot more than other surgeons. Anyone have any recommendations? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I had a band for 3-1/2 yrs. Only lost weight within the first 6 months, then nothing after. Was miserable with food getting stuck, etc. Ended up with a hiatal hernia near the band site. Revised to the VSG in January and loving life now! In my opinion, the band is evil:sneaky2:... I wouldn't recommomend it to anyone except Osama bin Laden.

birdie1 replied to Olivia23's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I had a soft lift with Dr. So 4 days after I got a sleeve revision. I got Botox on forehead sides of brows crows feet and absorbable juvederm(comes with lidacaine ) in marionette lines ans nasal labia folds for 475.00. It just got home and my friend says wow your skin looks really good. I wanted to see if she would notice... Now she wants to go to Mexico ... Haha -
That's kind of how I feel with the band. 50 years from now (or hell, 10 even), they may say that the band causes.. stomach cancer (just a random example). I am not opposed to diet pills. I took Metabolife with Ephedra when I did Atkins.. the only time I successfully was able to diet. It kept me from being hungry, so when I did eat- I could stick to low-carb. Eventually my head overcame me and I fell off the low-carb wagon, which goes back to what WasaBubble said. My brain never was 'fixed', but the pills helped. I did gain it all back + some, so there's something to be said about fixing the root of the problem. Now with the band, before I had a fill my doctor gave me ONE Rx to Phen--The not deemed dangerous one--.. and it didn't do crap for me. Since Ephedra isn't banned anymore, but was, I can only get it online, so I normally don't have it.. but I ended up ordering it, and even though I didn't have good restriction for 6 months-after revision surgery on the port, I still lost weight till that time. I still forget to order it, so I pick up Stacker 2 at the gas station.. which is no longer sold with Ephedra in stores like I said, so now it's just a HUGE dose of caffein. I don't necessarily take it for weight loss at this point, it just gives me my get-up-and-go. I'm not a coffee drinker, so I get my caffein via a pill. I like it, and I don't see the harm. If I found out my BP was bad or something was happening now to affect me, I'd be more concerned. Just like the smoker who doesn't stop till they get lung cancer, we're invisible..right? :smile2:

Just got my surgery date last week for 5/2/11. They short-scheduled it for me because I have a week then with no work obligations. The surgeon's office just submitted the paperwork to my insurance company last Friday, but I got the call today (4/20) that I have been approved. It seems very much more real now, as there are no obstacles left. I have been in the program since last September, and it seemed to take forever, but now it is full speed ahead. Woo hoo! My dr is having to appeal my medicaid ins plan for my surgical revision sleeve procedure. It has been one frustration after another, but I have some medical issues that need this intervention, so am hoping to get an auth soon to have surgery scheduled. Like you, I have been dring since Sept of last yr. Had a RNY 10 yrs ago, but that needs this revision. Good luck! Will be looking forward to your progress report.

Has anyone be re-sleeved? Revision ?!
woo woo replied to Lainybee1987's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I think she's saying two docs have said it wasn't done properly. I'm not any kind of medical expert, but the shape does look odd to me. I don't think it's supposed to be barbell-shaped like that. I also think that you should have lost more weight, so maybe the sleeve just didn't work for you. It happens. If it was me, I would think long and hard about revising to something else though, since sleeve didn't work for you the first time around. Maybe try a different procedure? Need band removal...thinking sleeve...
annak4 replied to SamieTeacher's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I think you would definitely need two weeks off of work. I had my sleeve on 12/22 and go back to work next week, 1/4. There is no way I could have gone back this week. I'm a HS counselor so I just used the holiday break as part of my recovery. Which didn't make for the best Christmas, but I HATE to miss work! I am a band revision as well and know that all I learned to do with the band will pay off with the sleeve. The eating guidelines are so much the same. I lost 70 lbs with the band but gained 40 back. Good luck! -
need help with my surgery

I suggest researching the Bariatric Centers of Excellence near you and finding a good doctor there. Plenty of doctors have done revisions / converted to a sleeve or gastric bypass! -
Federal BCBS approval when falling under 35 BMI
VDLT replied to NewLife1985's topic in Insurance & Financing
I had BCBS Fed Basic but my BMI was higher than that and I was also a revision from band. I wrote a two page letter explaining my issues and advocating for myself. You might want to try to do that. I would note that your weight has been climbing steadily and that you don't want to see that keep happening. According to your notes you met the 35 BMI requirement in October of 2014, correct? If they turn you down you can always try again in October. Since it is open season right now you might want to check into the other options available and see if one of them might have different guidelines and switch for the year. I love my Fed Basic though. There are several of us on here that have been approved by Fepblue, you might want to do a search and look at those threads. Good luck! -
Conversion from Gastric Sleeve to Bypass
RebeccaRN replied to noellegz1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am scheduled to have a revision from VSG to bypass on Jan 5. Keep wondering if I am doing the right thing. But I have been having horrible reflux and heartburn even on Protonix so I keep thinking I have to do something. I hope Deezjeanz that everything goes well for you - you will have to let me know how it goes. -

@@Brian66 - Thanks for updating us on your progress. You revised from band to sleeve in 7/2010? How long did it take to lose the 100plus pounds? Your stats have lap-band - just curious. -
Five Year Anniversary Today
Brian66 replied to Brian66's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Sorry Jane13. My profile had a few errors - never paid too much attention to it. I was not a lap band revision. My first and only surgery was the sleeve. I think it took me about six months to lose 120 lbs. -
I'm having band out on dec 18th and bypass revision on the same day. Very happy but afraid of the pain afterward. Some people say it's tolerable and others say it's so unbearably painful! I'm 52 please share your stats Thanks

Anybody else feel like they are starving?
Sai replied to Sinta's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Band to Sleeve revision on 9/2/16. My program is strict. It was 3 day Clear liquids, then switch to all liquids for next couple of weeks. Seen many programs on the net that they begin puree on day 8th and end that stage on the 21st day. Creamed Soups help as they are pretty comforting and filling. Campbells Soup to go has no bumps or lumps, for example. I know I get head hunger a lot though. Also, one of the nurses told me that a healing stomach will often mimic hunger, that makes sense and also when our stomach produces more acid it mimics hunger too. -
New Friend/A little bit about my story
WASaBubbleButt replied to ednalewis's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
We need more information. Which type of bypass did you get? Distal? How much intestine was bypassed? Or did they just do the stomach stapling? DS is more extreme than bypass. Sometimes RNY can be revised to DS but not always. Each person is different. The OP is describing the old stomach stapling procedure but calling it bypass. I think a lot of folks with the 70s/80s version of the stomach stapling were told it was bypass, I've seen that written too many times for them to not be told they were bypassed. If it was the old stomach stapling revision options are better. If it was bypass revision options are limited. -
Hi Curves, welcome to VST. This is a great forum. I be you're going to be so darn happy with your revision!

I am hopefully going to be approved for the lap band soon. I meet the NHI requirements, plus I have some of the co-morborbidities. Unfortunately, my insurance doesn't consider co-morborbidities, they go strictly by weight. According to them, I need to be 270 pounds (5'4) and right now I'm 225. But, I have newly diagnosed high blood pressure, asthma, sleep apnea, orthopedic issues, but they won't consider them. However, my HR director informed me that they are going to be revising their guidelines for the lap band (which were equalled to gastric bypass)..dumb! Right now, I'm trying (AGAIN) weight watchers and I've just started Alli. I am too young (43) to have this much trouble. I also have a 2 year old granddaughter plus a beautiful 14 year old daughter and I want to be able to play with the grandbaby without problems.I also want my daughters (21, 14) to be proud of me:o Vicki
