Hi WesTan2014, I'm looking at late July for my bypass. Wanted to see if anyone in this area had surgery with Dr Foreman at Crestwood hospital. Looks like you have done great at six months. Thx Cutwater

I posted back in August about my surgery getting canceled because of a covid surge in my area. I was devastated and facing losing my insurance. As luck would have it, I got to keep my insurance another month and was rescheduled for tomorrow. I have been trying really hard not to get my hopes up, but I just had my pre-op appointment and so far everything is a go. I’m crossing every appendage I have that tomorrow goes off without a hitch. I’m supposed to check in at the hospital at 10 am.

Whats your full signal?
MxKitty replied to Nurse_Lenora's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I get the hiccups when i had my original surgery in 2002 I told myself the Dr installed an alarm! Here i am 5 days post op revision and my alarm still kicks in when I'm full . -
Hello All, I would like reviews of Dr. Clayton Frenzel in Arlington-Dallas, Texas. I'm having band issues and need a revision doctor but want to make sure I pick the best one. I'm self pay which is a horrible thing since I'm not sure I can even do anything about the band if it is damaged. I've searched and can't find much about Dr. Frenzel. I have had a consult with him and he and his staff is very nice. He spent a lot of time answering all my questions but I can't find many that have used him...which makes me nervous. He does his surgery out of Forest Park Medical Center which I understand is an excellent facility. You may pm me here if you don't want to post in public. Thank you for your time.

Planning on having a revision
sweetnelly replied to putt0129's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
You can have a bypass after the sleeve. The sleeve started out as a 2 part procedure for patients who needed to lose weight before having the bypass. So many did well with it they didn't have to have a second operation. You may have to go through hoops with insurance but it is possible. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Planning on having a revision
clc9 replied to putt0129's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I would go back to basics: lean Protein and vegetables. Cutting out any empty carbs, alcohol, and anything that slides down easily. Not drinking while eating. It may be that the steroids and depo shot are really messing with your weight, but in that case switching to a bypass wouldn't change that unfortunately. Good luck to you. I wasn't trying to be sarcastic with my last post, I just meant that your sleeve is still there and they don't really stretch out so if it's not working you need to consider whether you are "eating around it" by eating stuff that goes down too easily meaning you don't get full. Another expensive major surgery won't fix your food choices when you already have restriction built in if you use it as intended. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
Am I a candidate for adjustable lap band surgery?
thesuse2000 replied to Jaqui's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You might be a candidate - if your bmi is at least 35. You can check your bmi here: Calculate your BMI - Standard BMI Calculator I was banded in Mexico at the OCC (Dr. Ortiz) because I didn't fulfill my insurance's requirements - my bmi was about 40, but I hadn't been that heavy in the previous two years. To get banded at the OCC you just need a bmi over 30. I'm getting my next fill in nyc - at nyu bariatric. They have an excellent surgical team. Check them out here: Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass - Types of Surgery - Surgical Weight-Loss by Laparoscopy, NYU Medical Center Good luck! Susan -
Three weeks after surgery I already feel like I have hit a plateau
trishrnyoung posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Well its been three weeks and I have lost 20 lbs. but nothing in the last three days. So needless to say I am discouraged! I am wondering if some of my medications are hindering my weight loss. My medications is the reason I had the sleeve and not the bypass. I know I need support and I have some support to offer. If you take a lot of medication I have found that putting it in applesauce either crushed or whole helps get them down. But you have to plan your meals around it because sometimes fluids and that much applesauce will fill you up/ -
Anyone morbidly obese and considering the gastric sleeve?
MichelleA replied to Kwilliams03's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am in the losing weight before I get a date phase. My BMI is over 60 and I wanted to sleeve. My Dr suggested I consider the bypass as he said it will be better for me in the long run. I still am weighing out the differences. I get confused and I know dumping comes with the bypass and more. Also I know you cannot take Moltrin. Im confused. I have 30 lbs to lose before I get my date. Let me know If you want to chat. -

Using Vst As My Solace
LilMissDiva Irene replied to CarrieNita's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome to VST :smile1: It does sound like you have a case for you to bypass the 6 month insurance guideline. I wish the very best for you, and much health to you in your future. Having the sleeve was by far the best choice I've ever made, I don't regret one single thing about it. I don't even regret the little bit of buyers remorse I had in the very beginning. It has made me who I am at this very moment - and I quite like who I've become. Read up and plenty, there are so many stories here you wouldn't believe. The sleeve has worked for thousands upon thousands of souls! -

Major reflux after Sleeve and herna repair
BLERDgirl replied to Shannon Piper's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If you are self pay it does make sense to get the testing done and present that to the bariatric surgeon. They can then advise if sleeve or bypass is a better option. I hope something works out for you. -
Birth control post op
freshair replied to AC274132's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The pill isn't as affective against pregnancies after bypass. It will still help to regulate periods though so I wouldn't suggest it. I can't do the iud either because I don't have children. My OBGYN won't do it, went to an other one and also wouldn't do it. And i can no longer take depo cause of risks of osteoporosis so I'm doing the evra patch now and condoms seems to be ok so far. -
Okay, I am in my 11th week and down 40 pounds with 15 to go to get at my revised goal of 180. I am at point of slowing down and still making goal somewhere between week 20 and 24. So, to moderate loss to a comfortable level, like to snack on Peanut Butter and a few saltines or an occasional ice cream cone. I know from reading this board I am not alone. So what is your cheat food?

Veterans....#1 thing you miss / don't miss
gowalking replied to Kindle's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
@oregondaisy..I was widowed at 36. it was also a long time ago but I sure do have a good idea what you went through and what Julie is going thru. She and I have PM'd as well. Also sorry to hear about your band. I too am banded and am always super alert to anything in order to be proactive. I'd hate to have issues and have to revise to another WLS. -
I am very happy with the sleeve. There is nothing I learned afterward that I wished I'd known before. PROS: less invasive/drastic of a surgery, not as many absorption problems CONS: you lose more weight with bypass

Band to sleeve - reflux
Nursegirl2803 replied to hopingforamiracle's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello, I have had the band for 12 years now. I did initially lose 80 pounds but have gained 30 pounds of that back. I have had no fluid in my band for a few years and still suffer horribly from restriction and re-flux, aspiration, heartburn.. list goes on. I have an appt in 2 weeks to see a surgeon who will hopefully take it out. I did find out that my insurance will only cover 1 procedure. So if I am wanting any type of revision then now is the time to do it. I am considering the sleeve but hoping that I dont still have all of the issues with re-flux and heartburn. Let me know how things go. -

The date is set.. Now where are my dancing shoes???
Toolow replied to Toolow's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks for the info. I considered the drug war in Mexico and honestly I live in the hood and deal with unpleasant people all the time. Scary but we all cant be middle class and live in the burbs.. I will however speak to the people who are making the arrangements to get me to the center about these concerns. I looked at Dr. Almanza when I first considered this and he has done more than 200 sleeves and I think more than 200 bypasses. I've heard the stapling process is more delicate in a bypass so that made me feel better with him as a surgeon. As to him being new at this.. well we all have to be new at something once in our lives. Yes I know its surgery and I know its dangerous but as a victim of the new economy (unemployed) and having a limited amount in savings I have to go where I can afford to. The thought that someone might be posting false information on these forums is very disturbing. Much of my decision to have this surgery was based on posts from forum members... Now I'm having serious second thoughts. damn..damn..damn.. -
The date is set.. Now where are my dancing shoes???
WASaBubbleButt replied to Toolow's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The person posting about the infection does explain quite clearly that they are on antibiotics and have been for 2.5 months because of having had surgery with Almanza. You can talk this away all you want, it's in black and white. Maybe it wasn't MRSA, but it was an infection from the surgery. Is Almanza doing the sleeves and bypass at Angeles hospital? I do not believe for one minute that corners are not being cut with the prices as they are. Impossible. Unless you guys are donating your time, these costs have to be absorbed for dirt cheap surgery. Considering the overall rep of Betancourt/Emmanual and their very long history on this board and every other I would just hope people really watch what they are doing. Then we have the issue of paid posters. You can't talk your way out of that one either. One of them emailed Elisabeth apologizing for being paid to push your facilities and slam dunk anyone who dared to tell of negative experiences. She couldn't do it anymore and apologized to a mod for this. She's never even BEEN to Emmanual! The paid posters aren't even bright enough to hide what they are doing. They are spamming every WLS board with this nonsense, not just here on LBT. Don't you realize it makes you guys look worse? Seriously, if you guys are going to lower yourself to paid posters at least get some bright ones. Those you have now... well, there are surely brighter crayons in the box, aren't there? If everything is as great as you say it is then why is there a need for paid posters? Other doctors... their patients are posting. Then we have the issue of the email I received from your facility suggesting that if I don't stop posting what I know then they will attack my doctor on the boards. They will come up with fake information and slam dunk him on every WLS board they can find. For God's sakes, where are the professional ethics at Betancourt/Emmanual/Almanza? My doctor has nothing to do with my posting. Why not attack my dentist while you guys are at it? You know, for a short time I really started thinking Andres was trying to clean things up, improve his rep, do things the right way. When one of the paid posters explained that P. L. is no longer associated with you I honestly thought to myself that maybe things are changing. I was clearly wrong. Ethics, they are a GOOD thing.
