NYE 2019 surgery date twin?
loridee11 replied to Bamachicvsg's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Steve, so sorry for your pain. I hope it has passed now. Cutebutcrzy - congrats! I hope you are still feeling well. LovingLV, I had my band out in August and my surgeon told me going in he would only do it in two surgeries. Even with the delay my bypass took an extra hour as he had to clean up some scar tissue so waiting is probably for the best. brooksbrittanyanne: congrats! I hope you are feeling well a couple days after your surgery! Feel free to chime in here and share you story with us! Overall my pain has been pretty minimal. I took a small dose of hydrocodone 2 time in the hospital, but the rest of the time I was OK with just Tylenol. I did try to walk every couple of hours. Now that I am home I am definitely feeling the bloat and some related pain. I've got an ice pack on and took a hydocodone which isn't doing much. I'll walk around the house some more to see if that helps it move quicker. My biggest challenge is I didn't sleep much in the hospital - just too much noise and movement. I'm hoping I'm able to sleep tonight. -

Iโm 2008 I had a lapband installed. I have had many problems from that over the few years. they can revise that to a different surgery, to Gastric bypass or sleeve. I choose gastric bypass. they were unable to do that at this time and just removed my lapband. hope that helps.. -

Supplementโs and strengths needed for post menopausal gastric bypass patients
Biddy zz ๐ณ๏ธ๐ replied to polishanita's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Hooray for us post-menopausal women taking a later in-life leap and getting this new life! I am two years post op. I was taking magnesium to help with restless legs before surgery so I kept that up. Initially I took a multi that I got from the bariatricpal store here. Then as things settled in it became apparent I would need B12 supplement, and 6 mo later, it was clear I needed folic acid too. My surgeon proposed them. And recently my iron has dipped so I take an iron/vitamin c combo tablet a couple of times a week (as I remember to). It is funny - I see loads of folks saying they chose a sleeve not a bypass because of the vitamin deficiencies - but it is so easily remedied! I am so so healthy now - I LOVE my new lease on my post-menopausal life! -
Banded in March 2001, revision to MGB in May 2016. Hernia is back and since that part of the reflux symptoms and surgeons want to do another revision. I guess I need to schedule it, huh? Weight wise I'm an unspectacular normal weight. Still can't make up my mind about plastics but my skin is bothering me more and more. I'm looking into the Avelar technique (would have to go to Austria to get it but since I'm most likely going to be a self-pay anyway...) but with a revision looming over my head I have other problems at the moment.

Lap band to gastric bypass
Mark.olypenn replied to angievasser42@gmail.com's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I was banded in 2005 and suffered many of the same issues. My revision will be in two steps. My band was removed about 3 weeks ago, my gastric bypass is scheduled for Feb 27. The band removal went very well. My post surgery pain was primarily in my shoulder from the CO2 used in laparoscopic surgery. All was manageable with Tylenol. All the best on your journey. -
Supplementโs and strengths needed for post menopausal gastric bypass patients
AZhiker replied to polishanita's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Had my bypass at age 63. I take the Bariatricpal multi with iron, B-12 (500), calcium citrate (1000) and D3 (4,000). I was a little low in Vit D on my 6 month labs, so that is why I take 4,000 iu. I take the multi and B-12 with breakfast and the calcium and D3 with evening yogurt snack. Except for D3, all my 6 month labs were great. Hopefully all will be great next month for the 1 year set. Have you had a Dexascan recently? Although mine was perfectly normal 3 years ago, when I had one done a few months ago, it showed osteopenia. Go figure. Apparently rapid weight loss can do this, but we really can't say it was due to WLS. So I am very faithful with my calcium and D3, and also trying to get aas much impact exercise in as I can. -

Revision if you already have a gastric bypass?
catwoman7 replied to Polishanita1's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
unless there's something mechanically wrong with your bypass, it's sort of pointless to revise it. Other than the DS, it's the strongest surgery out there at the moment. If the problem is behavioral, revising it to something else isn't going to help you long term - you have to tackle whatever the problem is, or you're eventually going to have the same issue with the next surgery. revising from RNY to DS is a complicated and supposedly risky surgery that only a handful of surgeons are qualified to do. There are no other surgeries I know of that you can revise to from RNY other than DS. -
Do you think 49 is too old for plastic surgery?

This list may help you if you werenโt given one. Sure enough rice is listed under soft foods. It is not recommended on my plan though. https://www.mayoclinic.org/tests-procedures/gastric-bypass-surgery/in-depth/gastric-bypass-diet/art-20048472 -
Revision if you already have a gastric bypass?
lovinglv replied to Polishanita1's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi! Happy New Year! I was banded in 08. I have had problems with throwing up and slight slippage that showed in a upper Gi. The other test was an Endoscopy that showed mild esophaguses... so insurance approved a revision to gastric bypass. I just got home from the hospital and so bummed that the surgeon decided it would be best to do the bypass in 3 months....๐ฉ I feel great, no problems with removal.. -

Travelling on an 18 hr flight 6 weeks post op- anyone done it?
WOLVESFAN1 replied to Nicky6's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had revision from sleeve to RNY on 12/17/19. I flew back home on the 23rd. I was either in the air or waiting in the airport for over 7 hours. I had no problems what so ever. I was exhausted by the time we actually got home. It was a long day. My biggest day of pain was the actual day of surgery. I had the surgery around 9AM and was up and walking later that afternoon. I was lucky in that I really had no gas pains and only took pain meds the first day. I was inpatient for 2 days and then discharged to a nearby hotel until we flew back home. I'm not a big fan of pain meds and I told my surgeon no need to write a prescription. I only took Tylenol as I needed it. I haven't taken anything since Christmas day. I'm not in any pain, but just feel uncomfortable in the tummy area. Good news is no more Reflux. I'm allowed pureed food now and everything has been great with the exception of sugar free Popsicle and refried beans. The fat free refried beans were the pits. They basically got stuck in my chest and hours after eating, I still feel uncomfortable. The doctor said that I would experience things like that and when I do I need to back away from that food and attempt to try it at a later date. Good luck on your procedure. I'm sure you are going to do well! -
It was an exciting 2019. After 20 years of considering WLS, I finally had my appointment with a surgeon in May when I weighed the heaviest that I ever have weighed at 230 pounds. At my height of 5'1", this placed me at a BMI of 43.5. During my 6-month pre-op-required nutrition intervention, I got myself down to 205 pounds. A 25-pound weight loss is not bad! But, it is not something I haven't done before. After all, I have been on a diet off-and-on since the age of 13. I am really good at losing weight, but I am even better at gaining it all back plus some every time I have any significant success. I suspect I have lost close to 560 pounds in the past 33 years. With all the ups and down of my weight, my metabolism is surely a mess. My gastric bypass surgery was December 11th. I am so thankful that it went smoothly and complication-free. Yes, I had significant gas-related abdominal pain and, yes, I was sore and uncomfortable at my surgical sites for about 2 weeks, but it was nothing I couldn't handle. Since my surgery three weeks ago, I have lost 16 pounds. Of course, this is mostly due to my liquid-only diet during the first 2 weeks pre-op. At 189 pounds, I now weigh close to the weight I was before my first son was conceived - a weight that I haven't weighed in 16 years!! As I get ready to watch the ball drop on 2020, I am so excited for all the weight that I will lose in the upcoming year. I am even more excited to re-set my metabolism so that I can maintain my weight loss. However, I am most excited to get healthy for perhaps the first time in my adult life.

10 years post-op - weight gain question
elcee replied to c566's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It might be time to consider a revision. It has been discovered that bands have a limited lifespan and that there are very few that continue doing what they were designed to do after approx 10 years. They also do a lot of unseen damage. -
Revision Surgery Scheduled

I was revised on 1 surgery. Life with an RNY is so much easier than with a band. I donโt get stuck and I can eatlots of good healthy foods. I just have to be really careful with sugar but that is a good thing -

You will love the bypass! With me, when I got full with my band the feeling as 'Yuck! I'm gonna hurl!" And half the time I did slime up some food consistently. Now that my band is out and I have a bypass (I was lucky and was able to get it done in one surgery) the feeling of fullness is the comfortable one I am used to prior to getting my band. I am also Medicare and I'm a bit nervous. The first bariatric office tried to tell me if you have had one weight loss surgery Medicare wouldn't pay for a second, even if they didn't pay for the first one! So I suffered with my band 6 months longer than I had to, and when I went to a different surgeon the new office said "That's crazy" and guaranteed Medicare would pay for the revision as long as you meet their criteria. I got the surgery 5 weeks ago, and I haven't called the hospital to see if Medicare picked up the tab yet...we'll see... -
Revision Surgery Scheduled

Is there anyone with a VSG or RNY surgery date at the end of February? My band has been out for about 3 weeks. Feeling good that I made it through the Holidays without gaining any weight. I have been trying to stay within the eating restrictions I had with the band for 14 years. Post op has been much better than expected. I must admit it has been a bit liberating to eat without restriction. I really appreciate the recent posts and comments on the complications with GERDS and acid reflux with VSG. They confirmed our decision to change course from VSG to RNY, because of my history with GERDS and acid reflux with my band. My by-pass surgery is scheduled for the end of February. In the meantime, I have a couple more "boxes" to check off to complete the requirements for Medicare.
