I got over 1 plateau while traveling. Little control over the food I had access to, and I was in Europe so all delicious. I went down to 2 meals, and tried to have a 16 hour break between dinner and my next meal. Lost 7 pounds in 3 weeks with this adjusted intermittent fasting.

Hello. I am a 35 year old woman. I am a stay at home mom. I have a 7 and a 4 year old, (and a 42 year old). When I started my pre-op diet I weighed 234 lbs. I had my surgery on the 17th of Feb. I got my first fill on March 27, and I am struggling. I have been fluckuating between losing 21 and 24 lbs. for about a month now. I work out 5 days a week for 1-2 hours a day. I eat right, and I just don't get what is going on. I just need someone to talk to, or some advice or something. It is just really frustrating losing and gaining the same lb. or 2 over and over again. Please help. I am a very down to earth open minded person. If you would like to be my mentor/buddy, I am here. And would love to talk. Have a great day!

Lap Band Port Flipping?? Is It Very Common??
shrinkingV replied to aswag's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was about four weeks out of surgery when I flipped mine. Hubby was gone and a tree limb had blocked my car in (on my way to work and I couldn't miss) so I moved the limb. It wasn't huge but large enough for the sutures holding my still healing port into place to pop resulting in the port flipping 180 degrees. A few weeks later I went for my first fill. After a very frustrating half an hour of attempting medical sent me to get it under fluroscopy (his office didn't have their own yet). That's when we found it was flipped. I had a second surgery a few weeks after that to replace the port. Although it wasn't damaged the surgeon said that since he was going back in to place more sutures it might as well be a new one. Surgery was super short (less than 2 hours prep to finish) and i went back to work after 2 days, weekend really. He even went in where the first incision was and i ended up with a much better looking scar. Lesson learned though. Doc says no lifting over X number of pounds I listen! That was almost 2 years ago and everything has been fine since. -
i just responded to another bander with segment below who referred me to the website below... Surgical Weight Loss 5 Day Pouch Test ...thank you, i came looking to see if anyone else has the same problem and your web site is exactly what im looking for...i am already on prilosac once a day and my doctor said 4 days liquids, 4 days mushies, 4 days lapband foods and come back and i could have a tight fill. i went in there feeling wide open and thought i had lost my fill (apparatus problems?) but turns out i only had .08 as had a unfill for a gallbadder op and had esophagus inflammation and have EVIDENTLY STRETCHED IT TO TWICE ITS SIZE! my surgery will be three years old in dec, have lost 70 pounds, gained back 14 just now with open pouch but whatever the case ive been PACKING THE POUCH for years now if i am honest. I havent been able to have a fill 3 times in a row with many months inbetween because i cant get the inflammation down as my food disorder is still so rampant that i find it impossible (so far) to keep to fluids etc for long. SHAME! And i want to lose my 14 plus another 30 - 40 so i can get a tummy tuck not counting the fact that i dont want to lose the band! so...any feedback is welcome! Teresa ...now i hear this from you all above. ONly thing i can add is my doctor said the band, catheter and port were fine, i just had to get the inflammation down and reaquaint myself with my fill! ie begin again like a newbie (fluids, mushies etc) and get inflamation down and SEE WHAT BEING FULL FEELS LIKE AGAIN! Then she will give me a proper fill. I have been on fluids now for 4 days (this is a miracle!) and when i had a big pull on the straw of my daughters smoothie (have to make her one too) - very THICK (unlike mine), i ACTUALLY FELT FILL UP TO THE BRIM! Same now with a thick tomato Soup, thinned down pea soup (you can tell im looking for substance!!!!) final point being, if only i can remember to stop (and virtually have to...), then i can get on track again... ANY COMMENTS!!!!!

I have the burning sensation too...it is a few inches below my port. I have heard that eventually it will go away. I think it may be some nerve damage, but maybe it will heal itself. I am only 2 weeks po.

Conflicted- Holding off Surgery for work?
leebick replied to sassysleeved's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You'll be out of work for six weeks? Are you having more surgery than just the sleeve? That seems like an incredibly long time to be out. My program says definitely take 2 weeks, but prepare to take another week if I'm still too tired, but almost everyone I talked with only took 2 weeks off. When I had my gall bladder out (laparoscopically, like the sleeve surgery will be) I took three days off. Six weeks seems like a long time; I'd go stir crazy! -
I know we all want the weight to just disappear, but it's unhealthy to lose more than 1 1/2 to 2 pounds a week. Sounds to me like you're doing fine. I have a friend who are banded in November, and he eats what I thought was a lot. A lot. But he's losing 1.5 a week and his doctor was thrilled and cancelled giving him another fill. Why do people think that they have to be super tight and starve? The purpose of the band is to make us NORMAL. Normal portions. Normal rate of weight loss. Normal expectations of ourselves because before we all just wanted instant gratification, whether it was getting in the food, or the crazy dieting we did. Relax. Enjoy the 1.5 a week. Add exercise not only for weight, but also for your heart.

Hi, had my lap band done a week ago. Still very sore where the wound sites are, otherwise all seems to be going ok. Have lost half a stone already, but that maybe because I felt quite poorly for a few days. Anyone else out there had their's done recently? would like to hear how other's are doing.

Thyroid Uptake with Radioactive Tracers
Nnoi posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hello My Friends 💜 I had Gastric Bypass in July. So far I am doing pretty well, feeling great, I have my three month check-up with my surgeon the end of the month! But today I wanted to talk more about something else I am a thyroid cancer survivor, I was diagnosed, had my thyroid removed and did radiation in 2012. Every year my oncologist alternates between doing a chest x-ray or a Thyroid uptake scan to check that the cancer is not back. I am due for a Thyroid uptake scan soon. I WILL be talking with my surgeon at my appointment about it. But was curious if any of you wonderful people were also Thyroid Cancer survivors or have done a thyroid uptake scan post-op. My main concern is that while the dose of radiation you take for an uptake scan is not as high as when you are doing actual radiation I will still be swallowing a radioactive pill, which they request/suggest you take with a full glass of water all at once. I know I can not drink that much water all at once, but I am also concerned that if I am discouraged to consume caffeine for six months post-op (which is what my program suggests I know not all of them do) that consuming actual radioactive materials is probably not advisable either. Anyone here who does Radioactive Thyroid Uptake Scans? Any suggestions on how long you waited post-op? Again I will talk with my doctor's both my Bariatric Surgeon and my Oncologist about my concerns and imagine that I will just be pushing the Uptake scan out at least a year post-op but I am just checking to see what other peoples experiences were... -
Lapband unfilled, problems are resurfacing
Keona1323 replied to MissManda85's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm going through this right now. I was having trouble keeping anything solid down and then it went to liquids. Saw my GP and on the recommendation of my surgeon, went for a barium swallow. Monday was the test and it was aborted after the first swallow as my band was at a near complete obstruction. Tuesday I saw my local-ish doctor that does the adjustments for me (set up by my surgeon) and we had to do a complete unfill. I am just waiting for he hospital to call with my appt for a CT scan to check the position of the band and see if a slip has occurred. If no slip, we wait two weeks and slowly start filling again. If not, I will be off to see my surgeon. Since I the fluid has been out, I have stuck with liquids and soft mushy foods. Not one thing has come back up much to my relief. But I do still feel some pressure in my chest and discomfort. So we will see. Good luck with your situation and you must get in to see a doctor. If you can't keep liquids down, you will become dehydrated and you don't want to wind up on IV fluids. -
I had lapband surgery back in March 2012...the first 18 months I did really well with very little issues. Then they put my band at 5cc, and everything went down hill from there. I had to have Fluid removed because I couldn't hold anything down, and even when fluid was taken out, within a few weeks the same problem came back. Long story short - August 2014, I had to wait over a month to get an appointment, so I went over a month throwing up daily solids, liquids, mushy foods. Nothing stayed down period. So when I finally got in, I asked them to just take the fluid out completely. They got most of it, or so I was told, and my per visit price "doubled" to almost $200. I was fine for about 2 months after, and then I started occassionally having episodes where something wouldn't stay down. Mind you, I gained 10lbs before the fluid came out when I couldn't hold anything down, and then gained 20lbs within 2 weeks after the fluid was removed. So I gained back everything I had lost prior to the whole 5cc fiasco. They called me in October telling me I was overdue for my yearly check up from August, but I don't have $200 for a 10 minute appointment. Now in the last 2 weeks, I am throwing up most things (including liquid) almost daily. Some days it's all day I can't hold anything down, and some days it's hit and miss. Has anyone else had this problem? I shouldn't being repeating last year with an unfilled band. Ironically, the doctor that did my procedure doesn't even offer lapband surgery at his location. Revision surgery is $15,650 for self-pay, and I just don't have any way to come up with it. So it's pretty depressing. I'm trying to get the weight off I gained back unnaturally quick, and it's not budging much, maybe 5lbs. But has anyone else had similiar problems with their band?

Exercise, Exercise and more Exercise
alice150 replied to thunderstorm816's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
This is where I really have to do better. I have been walking 3x a week with a friend at work during lunch time at a huge outlet mall. I always say I will exercise in the a.m. before work and I never do. I want to get into a routine 5 days a week. I'm actually moving this weekend from S. Florida to the St. Pete area for a year. I will be living away from my husband and adult son who is high functioning autistic. I didn't want to do this, but I will have 20 years service with my employer next year and I would lose the option to get my retirement benefits early if I don't make it to 20 years. It will be difficult to be traveling back and forth every other weekend, but I do see an opportunity with this move as well. This is my time to take care of myself. I will only have healthy food in the house, I will join a gym and transform myself this coming year! Good Luck to everyone. Alice 271/243/150 Banded April 8, 2008 -

It is all happening too fast! Saw MY Dr. on monday, he unfilled me and changed yet again the meds for my reflux. He is going to spain tomorrow, for 3 weeks. Talked him into x rays. Well, today i had them, and my band has moved, a lot, eventhough the barium went through, very slowly, there is a huge amount of stomach above the band. The radiologist made an appointment with another doctor in the clinic, since mine is not going to be in town. She saw me, talked to yet another collegue, and I am scheduled for surgery on tuesday, to fix this. **I** knew the reflux was caused by the band moving, but I was so desperate to believe my Dr. that that wasn't the case. ACK! Now, here is my list of predicaments. 1) should I call my doctor the day before he flies O/S( that means today) and tell him Im going under the knife with someone else? what if he wants me to wait? I have been sitting up at night for 4 weeks, and the last week, even that doesnt halp at night. 2) I will meet the surgeon at the O.R., she is too busy to meet me any other time, I dont know how I feel about that. 3) We were supposed to visit the in-laws on thursday, but I dont think I want to take a 4 hr drive after surgery. My husband claims he cant lie to his parents, so he will tell them what is going on. Telling my M-I-L will inform the world of my lap band faster than taking an add in the papers. Last time I didnt tell anyone. I dont want to tell anyone, its my life, its my body and my dear Husband better learn how to make excuses! This issue is stressing me as much as the prospect of surgery again. 4) last time, I swore I never ever wanted to go through that surgery again this lady I saw today said the band slips in less than 10% of the patients..... so why me????

Thank you Marie, Alex, Vicki and Donali for your replies and support. I feel so strangely. LIke 2 people fighting in my head. One calm and rational, thinking " I knew it! I was right!" and angry that my doctor chose to think of me as a hysterical hypocondriac. I know at some level that I can't wait, and I know I don't have to tell if I don't want, and I know what comes next so I should be less scared. And then, there is Ms. hysterical hypocondriac ( which means my doctor must have been dealing with her and not me all this time and had no choice but to think I was exagerating) wanting to run away and have this magically fixed without going through surgery again, wondering whether I should have the band removed instead, rather than going through this again in the future. I wanted to have another baby next year and now, with this "complication" it just seems that my band and pregnancy dont mix (specially when last time I was throwing up all day every day for 6 months, and a horrible retching attack while changing a diaper moved my band 2 months ago). Then the guilt of "lying". I read Gail's post and thought "she shouldn't feel guilty! She doesnt have to tell!" But now, after avoiding lying the first time, I get to go through this again! and instead of just dissappearing for a few weeks, i will have to avoid and tell them im having the reflux fixed, which is true, if not the whole truth. I am working on my husband, explaining that if he sticks to " fixing the reflux" its not actually a lie. But his mother is so nosy! Called the Dr. and told him what happened. He sounded a bit annoyed, but said he highly recomends this surgeon, so I guess thats a good thing. Talking to him, I felt like a child, terrified of dissappointing a parent. I have serious issues! Thank you all. Sorry I made it so long! Tellie

I have been starving lately!!!!!! I have been making a lot of smoothies with the Atkins shakes and putting yogurt in ( chobani) or Peanut Butter in the chocolate. I track everything in my fitness pal and just try to stay at 1000-1200 calories. And this weekend started to do Just Dance 4 as my exercise . I've been eating pretty mushy food but have also eaten a piece or two of pizza. I just track it. I definitely cannot eat as much as I once could and just try to take is slow and chew chew chew chew. I figure it will get better when I get my first fill which is next week. Until then I am not going to beat myself up (because I have done that enough in my life). This might be the wrong tactic and I know I need to get more Protein in but I am just going to keep working on it! I also and just cooking for my family and just eating smaller portions. Has lasagna "cupcakes" for dinner - emilybite.com and making chicken casserole tonight. These things last a whole lot longer now!!!!'

Anyone use protein shake diet to boost weight loss?
juliegeraci posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've been on a plateau for 3 weeks. Has anyone done straight protein shakes to boost losing? Thanks. -
I also have a fatty liver. I was on the 2 week pre op diet but when my surgeon was banding me he was shocked by it. He asked if a had really followed the pre op diet or not. He also said it would improve with the weight loss.

I am very very discouraged.. i was banded on july 12 07 and lost 16 pounds in 14 days.. was drinking the liquid diet.. 3 protein slim fast drinks a day and 64 oz water and then when i switched to regular food i havent lost a pound since. so 2 weeks without any loss. i am now having a slim fast for breakfast and lunch and 4 oz meal at dinner and 60 oz of water a day and not losing anything. in fact in the last 3 days i have gained 4 pounds and dont know how i did it because i havent been eating but one meal a day and that almost all protein...this is sooooooooo discouraging.. i read on the threads here where people that had the surgery the same date i did have lost 25 to 45 pounds in this month. help!!! i am trying so hard to get this right but seeing the scale go up makes me want to cry! Ok, so let me say that I started this journey in June 06 at 330 pounds. And today I am at 285. And I am happy about that. I have had my share of issues. Fills, unfills, etc.... I currently have 8.5cc's in a 10cc band. I am eating smaller portions by choice, not by restriction. But my issue is that I have not lost or gained(thank goodness) a single ounce since my last fill. I do have an appt on Feb 1st for another slight fill, maybe that will help. I have also started walking more and have started Water aerobics 3 nights a week. Can someone tell me what they did when they were discouraged? Is there some guru/wizard we can visit? HELP Thanks for letting me vent.

Okay, It has been 4 weeks since my first fill and I have lost no more weight. I really cannot tell the band is there except for occasionally when I do not chew something well. So my question is How do you know when you hit your "sweet spot," what changes? I am disappointed that my appetite seems exactly the same. I thought I would be getting a sensation of being fuller sooner. I don't want to be so tight that I have to drink liquids forever, but right now I am just back to the same old diets that didn't work in the past. Help!
