  1. I was just wondering....which pain was worse? Lap-band or the revision surgery? Or were they both about the same? Also, is there lots of pain where the port was? Just a few questions I had as I count down the days until I have this ridiculous band out! Just for kicks, I would like to add that I have not had restriction for months and then today, out of nowhere, I start slimming! Really??? LOL

    Band gone forever!

How does the pain compare to the band I'm getting my revision tomorrow all in one like u the worst part I think is the port can't wait to not feel it. I'm scared of the pain after surgery
  3. Don't let fear stop you from your research. I have the band and I am scheduled for a revision on May 23. My joke is I can eat Cheetos but not raw vegetables. That seems so very wrong. I never had great luck with my band due to throwing up and eventually you eat what your band will allow.
  4. I'm desperately looking for some advice...I really don't need negative feedback, please. A little about me--I was banded in May 2007. I lost 10-12 pounds on the PRE-op diet and NOT 1 POUND since then. I admit, I have not followed all the rules. I have made poor food and drink choices and I've not exercised. However, I can honestly say that the band has done its part in controlling my portions, which brings me to wonder why I haven't lost ANY weight. I am not perfect, and I don't ever plan to be; however, I have made enough changes that I should have seen SOME loss by now. I am very depressed and frustrated about this. I have recently made some changes - I am now making healthier choices (not perfect ones) and I am exercising 3-4 x per week. According to the scale and my clothes - I am GAINING weight! WTH? I'm at a loss here. I am seriously considering checking into either the sleeve or a mini bypass - neither of which I know a lot about. I know quite a bit about the gastric bypass - how does the mini bypass differ, if at all? Or is it just a terminology thing? I know very little about the sleeve, as well. I don't know what the likelihood is of insurance covering a "revision" WLS. I'd have to check into that too. But, for now, I'd just like to get information - and I really like getting firsthand info from those that have actually "been there and done that". Again, save your negative comments. I KNOW that the band is only a tool, and does not work alone. I KNOW that I haven't always "done my part". But, I also KNOW that the band isn't for everyone - and I think I may be one of those statistics. Thank you in advance for any help, advice, comments you can offer. Have a Safe, Happy, and Healthy New Year!

    Former (or current) band folks

I would love to hear what hoops you had to jump through to get insurance to approve a revision. My daughter had the band a year and a half ago. She lost 60 lbs right away, but stalled. We haven't been back for a band check/fill in a year. She still can't eat much at each sitting and only eats maybe twice a day. She also has PCOS. Had we known, we would have pursued sleeve or RNY. Advice?

    Former (or current) band folks

Well nothing similar but wanted to say that after having my band for 5 years, with no complications, I had a revision this past September. I don't think that you can have the band in forever and that is why I had it removed. It was the best decision I could have made to be band free. IMO it doesn't sound to me like it is band related, your husband's issue. What did he eat? Did he over eat?

Good luck to you guys only 2 days left. Momiffivwcantwait. I opted for sleeve because I didn't like that so many people banded where going back for revision and I thought bypass was too much of a gastric surgery for me. Plication I was worried that you could never know what's going on in the part of the stomach that is sewin up. So sleeve was my best option. I hope your results are good. Praying for you.

    Made up my mind!

Welcome Caaattt! There's even a forum here about people who have had revision from the lap band so I'm sure you'll get a lot of useful information. Hope you get your May date!

    Its Official

keep us posted -- my doc appt is not until 7/7 and my upper GI on 7/2 I also heard my doc's booking Sept and Oct surgeries now -- so I expect it will be december before I can have a revision.
  10. I am going to do revision if all goes as planned from band to sleeve however I'd like to lose approx 19lbs. Is that even possible with the sleeve? When I go in on the 21st again I will talk with my Dr. She did my band and seems to think sleeve would be a good option. I do not want rny but is that the only way to lose that much?! :/
  11. I'm scheduled for revision from banded plication to sleeve in June and I still have a small amount of fluid in my band - probably about 2 c.c.s. Doctor seems unconcerned that there is fluid in there, however, my endoscopy showed a slip. My port is almost impossible to access so I'm going to keep the fluid in until my revision. Good luck to you. Jenn

    Un-fill Lapband before Sleeve Surgery?

We lessened but did not unfill my band. I think I went to 2.6 cc from 4.1. I was having trouble with vomiting and was at that level for about three months before we did my revision. It was all in one procedure. He would have done it without the unfill, but the unfill was what made me decide on the revision. I did have a complication with an infection in the incision where the port was, but to be honest I would still do the all in one procedure again, even with the surgery to fix the infection and abscess. My opinion is that was an unlucky and rare thing, not a deterrent to doing both in one shot.
  13. This is my exact story...I had my revision 4/22. Band was completely unfilled 2 months prior to surgery. I was in th OR approximately 2.5 hrs, stayed 1 night in hospital. Noo complications! United Healthcare covered the revision
  14. I had my revision on September 10, 2012 and had no issues at all. When progressing through the food stages, as I listened to my body, I did extend some phases by a couple of days and it was well worth it. I have had no vomiting, no sliming, but I also do not overeat. I learned many lessons with the band so the sleeve has been quite easy for me. I reached my goal weight in 6 months less a day and currently am still losing. WOOHOO sleeve!!!

weight loss after band to sleeve

I have also heard that for some, they believe the band causes people to be "slow losers" but I honestly think that everyone loses at their own pace, it just gets blamed on the band in a revision patient. I have spoken to so many revision sleevers and it seems to be about the same ratio of fast to slow losers as "virgin" sleevers. And going back to what CowgirlJane said, I think ANY weight loss surgery is going to be what you make it. Yes, the band was a flawed system that made it so much harder to eat the healthy foods... however, I know for me personally, there came a point with my band that I gave up trying to find my "sweet spot" and resorted to sliders. I had been through so many fill adjustments that my patience and, as a self pay, money, were running thin. I resorted to sliders to get through and it was a very easy and familiar way of eating, so I stuck with it, instead of continuing to try and get the most out of my band. Do I think that everyone can be successful with the band if they just try harder? No, of course not (myself included), and I don't think anyone should be expected to go through the insane number of adjustments it would likely take to actually find a "sweet spot" for a lot of us. But, I do agree with Jane that part of the success with the sleeve, at least for me, will really come from evaluating where I made poor choices with the band. And honestly, in a lot of ways, I am thankful for my last 10 years with the band... as much of a mess as it was, I feel like it's put me in a good place mentally to adjust to a sleeve and be committed to the program I need for long term success!!
  16. Hi Everyone , I had gastric bypass about 3 months ago as a revision to the gastric sleeve due to horrible GERD, and before that I had the lap band in and had to have it removed due to some of the same symptoms that I am having now and since I left the hospital I have had nothing be chronic nausea and some vomiting, I do get dry heeves almost very day and these " episodes" can last for about 10 minutes at a time, I also have left side abdominal pain that sometimes feels like gallbladder attacks, my surgeon has been trying every thing to figure out what this could be, my EGD came back normal, no structure or leak, currently taking zofran raglan acephex Zantac and care fate, I have tried to stop these and I end up feeling worse and sicker I also had an upper gi done that just showed reflux, he is sending me for a ct scan because of the pain, he does think that there may be a super small hernia, and he wants another pH study to see if the acids are really bad again. He said that he has a whole bunch of docs looking into this but I have stumped them all. He gave several options such has having a j tube or tpn so that I am getting some nutrition, he did ask if I feel better if I don't eat, and I said yes the nausea is not as bad as if I eat. He also said he is going to see if mayo clinic will look into my case due to the complex nature of it all. I just want to know has anyone else had anything like this, or any other suggestions. I a just at my wits end with all of this I am not even 25 and having all these problems, and I just feel that all of this was done in vein, and I don't know what to think or do please help Erica

    Band to Sleeve Post-Op Vitamins?!?!?

I would check with your doctor to see if you're even supposed to be taking Vitamins yet, which may be why they're making you sick. I had my band to sleeve revision on the 14th and I'm not allowed to take any vitamins until my 2 week post op appt on Tuesday. And then, it supposed to be in liquid form since I'm on liquids only for 3 weeks. Your post op instructions may be different, but just a thought.

    Denied For The 2Nd Time

I'm sorry this has happened to you. I have BCBS, too, and struggled trying to understand my benefits. I my started this process in July 2009 and was denied the first time in December 2009 because my "documentation of physician supervised weight loss efforts did not demonstrate that attempt was made over a sufficient period of time." My policy required documentation for two years. My medical records showed far more than a two year history of weight loss efforts, so I called my insurance company to get clarification concerning exactly what I needed to do to be approved; it was difficult to get a clear answer. The woman I spoke to on the phone was very nice, but I could tell she became annoyed by all of my questions. I finally asked to speak with her supervisor because the answers I had received were vague at best. I almost gave up. However, in February 2010, I started regular visits at my doctor's office. During each visit, we specifically discussed in detail my weight loss efforts. The two year time period actually passed by more quickly than I thought it would. My final visit was on February 13, 2012. The insurance company received my paperwork on February 15; I was approved on February 17 and received my approval letter on February 21. Interestingly, when I first started the process in 2009, a 35 BMI with a co-morbidity was required, but the medical policy was revised in September 2011 and required a 30 BMI with a co-morbidity. Be persistent and hopefully, you will receive your approval soon.
  19. I had revision almost 3 months ago and just recently moved to more dense protein. I run, cycle, and train a lot. Pre op sleeve I had lost 100 lbs with my lap band. Had complications and started my revision at 168. I now weigh anywhere between 134 and 138. I feel like I eat all day and I'm hungry all day. I average 800-1100 calories a day with 80-100 g of protein and low carbs. If I eat too late, when I wake up, I feel a stretching sensation/pain in my stomach. Does anyone feel this way? Does anyone feel like they eat all day? My portions are appropriate as I'm eating 2-4 oz at a time. I'm feeling lost, hungry, and like I just eat all the time. Please share your insights! Also I made the popcorn mistake by eating too mucch felt nasty and got rid of all popcorn in my house.

Oh Lord :/ That's my whole reasoning for wanting a revision is that for the life of me I can't loose anything after getting the liquid out I've gained 15lbs and now that I have liquid put back in I can't even loose the 15lbs I gained!! apart from having some minor issues with my bad. 22. Hello I had revision 3 and half months ago and everything has been fine up until yesterday. I ate a meal and then drank about 40 minutes after and started to have some burning in my stomach area. It's not heartburn and I'm not sure how to explain it but it feels sort of stretching and burning feeling. Has anybody experienced this? if so what is it? I see my doctor next Friday. If it was a late leak, I would most likely know right? Thank you.
  23. Thank you ladies for your response to my call for help. It is nice there are people I can ask for help on these forums regarding eatting right after having a Sleeve Revision and while trying to be smart and not fall into the wrong way of looking at food now. hhhHappy- i did put a call in to Nut/DR office but they havent called back, yet. Ktklass- I will go out and buy some Premier shakes from costco this weekend, they have 30gr of Protein and that will help me get the protein in that I need. EscapePod, thank you for your words of kindness and wisdom. Your right grief isnt normal there are days when it hits you and days when your just numb. I do appreciate your honesty. I lost my father many years ago and turned to "comfort food". This time I wanted to be smart. It is true that I havent been getting my Water in and that is something I try really hard to do. When i realized that I also figured I wasnt so hungry either just 3 meals a day instead of my 6 small meals. hugs to all of you again.
  24. I had a revision, band to sleeve. My situation was similar to many stories, and yet somewhat different. I lost like 90 pds with the band but had a partial slip in Dec that eventually caused pain & the inability to eat & keep anything down. It was removed & replaced all in 1 surgery on Jan 16th of this year. I weighed 156 the day of surgery & now weigh 138 pds. I have no regrets. I fill up with 1 cup of food & do not feel hungry at all. Mind you, I can eat 1 cup of crappy food OR healthy food. YOU still have to make the right choices, which isn't always easy. YOU are in control. Good luck!
  25. Hi there, I am thinking about the LapBand to Sleeve revision surgery and my new surgeon said that I would have a drain bag for 7 days. I was wondering if anyone had a drain bag for a week? What did it feel like and did it hurt during and after it was pulled out?
