    How Many Calories?

I'm 9 weeks out and eat between 600 to 800 calories a day. Eat a little more if you feel you need it.

    How Many Calories?

I'm 4 weeks out and doing 700 - 800cals. About a week ago my nutritionist insisted I increase my calories... hence 700-800cals. She actually wants it closer to 1000cals! Her reason was because of how active I've been with workouts. Still debating on increasing to 1000cals.

    Pills vs Chewables

Hi Bryn, I was able to take pills the same day as my surgery. I could NOT take Vitamins becuase they were TOO BIG!! until week 4 when I could eat soft foods. I say if you can eat soft food, then you can take vitamins in pill form. I had to go to pills because the chewables made me sick too!! I take Centrum because it is complete and even has Iron in it. I also like the BA chewy lemon, chocolate and carmel calcium citrate. They are YUMMY!! If you haven't tried them, get some. I also have the Citracal + D and take that too. I alternate chews and pills. I reallly like the chews, but have to have 5 daily, so I have a few and a pill. Calcet also has Lemon bites that are yummy as well. they kinda taste like lemon cake. The BA lemon ones are like a Starburst kinda and the caramel are like a Werther's. The chocolate is just like a choclote chew. Super, super good. Kelly

    Pills vs Chewables

My doc said at week 2 it was ok to swallow pills. Also could not stomach the Bariatric Advantage made me hurl. Went to Vitamin Shoppe and taste tested alot of chewables. Found one that went down fine. Got doc to look and he said they have alot of good stuff in them so OK. Also.....I find my vitamins go down better in am with coffee....in afternoon I hurl. Try different times of day!

    Pills vs Chewables

Did you have a calcium deficiency pre-op? If not, I'm sure you'd be OK not having anything for a few more weeks just until you can take the supplements without being sick.
  7. I'm happy to report a 2 pound loss as of last Saturday and then an additional pound as of today, so my stall has finally broken!
  8. Well, that's ridiculous, so maybe your NUT isn't as educated as I'd hope. But I don't think it's unreasonable for you to be aiming for 800-1000 calories a day. You want to keep your metabolism up and stay out of starvation mode. And if you are doing ANY sort of exercise, you need to be eating more calories in order to sustain your activity level. Definitely don't worry about this 2.6 pound "gain". It can only be Water weight and there is no way you are actually GAINING real weight eating under 1000 calories a day. Stalls and slow-downs are common around the 3 week mark post-op and things usually pick up again a few weeks after that, so just hang in there. Yea, I am working on it. I did end up starting my period, and today I was down 2 of the 2.6 I was up Friday. So I am definitely working on eating more, although yesterday I barely ate much at all, I just wasn't hungry. I got the all clear last week at my 2nd follow up.

    Carbonation

Im five months out and have had a half dozen if that. No issues and tastes the same. Just keeping them in moderation. Used to drink three coke zeros a day before surgery.
  10. I had lapband surgery in April 2011. I have lost 55 pounds. After my last fill, I had about two weeks of vomiting about 4 out of 7 days. I went in and had .3 saline removed. At that point on the x-ray, they saw some stretching probably due to the vomiting. I now want to eat endlessly. Will my stomach go back to its post op size or am I just trying to fill up the stretching area--what should I do?

    Out to Dinner?

My sweety and I are going out on Saturday for Valentines Day. He's letting me choose the restaurant. I'm three weeks post surgery, no fills yet, and on regular food (just small portions). Any suggestions? Sashimi is probably the safest bet, but I had that this weekend, and honestly thought it wasn't nearly as good as sushi.

    Give me a break!

Maybe it's just me but isn't everyone getting tired of hearing about Obama's date that we're paying for and what dog to get for his kids and didn't it take several weeks to decide on a name for the dog. Thank goodness someone finally started helping Mrs Obama pick out a decent dress. Also, how bout Michelle's arms...do they really look any different from anyone else's arms that work out regularly with weights...I thought this cpl in the White House was going to be different...NOT!!!!
  13. Had my first Major stuck today, was not fun. First time I have had to throw up. I was busy with my three grandchildren was getting there Breakfast (they sleep late on the weekend) and cleaning up so that we could go to the movie (Batman) I do not have them too often so I was eating a piece of bacon (bad girl) on the run, oh my gosh it was not pretty. I just want to warn everyone that has not had an episode to not eat on the run, and to leave bacon alone. We had to leave late for the movie; I am now thinking about dinner and am afraid to eat. I am going on vacation next Friday and was going to have another fill on Monday I called the office and left a message to cancel it, hope that was a wise decision and I will not gain weight when I am gone. God Bless Lassie
  14. One of my incisions has opened! It's not oozing or anything but it's a hole. Should I leave it alone? If I use steri strips now will it trap in bacteria? I've been sleeved for three weeks and it was closed covered by a scab. It just opened a few days ago.
  15. Let me start off by saying how frustrated I am. Today is my one month bandaversary, and so far I have lost 30 lbs. This is great- I know, and I am very excited about it. However, I have been dieting. I am very careful about what I eat, and for the most part, am not starving (much) anymore. I consume 800-1100 cals a day (I change it up to keep the body guessing- thanks Bam) and for the two weeks have been on a rollercoaster. Down 29, up 1, up 2, up 3, down 1, up 1, down 2, same, same, down one, same, same, up, down, you get the picture. I am working my ASS off, and my question is, how am I going to lose weight with my fills if I am eating the same now as I will then? In fact, I am forcing myself to eat more than I am hungry for now just to get in enough calories for the day. Someone guide me through this with some "I was the same way" encouragement. Tell me what you did to get past this, and how later will be different:scared2:
  16. Thanks for the encouragement everyone. I know this too shall pass. And I have controlled my cals enough now where I only get hungry at times, but I am eating like I would assume I can eat when I am filled (except for today). Like 2 oz of fish and 1/4 cup broccoli. When I was on the liquid diet the pounds fell right off. Now I am on solids and trying to watch my diet, it has pretty much stopped. I have noticed though that when I keep the cals around 800, I do better. The couple days this week I was closer to 1200 I gained. I am really nervous to have more. And those days my cals were higher I had more carbs and fat than I wanted. How do I get in more calories that don't add more fat and carbs, without feeling like I am stuffing my face full. Today I ate at Olive Garden and where usually I am around 300 cals by this time of day, I am closer to 700! I had bruschetta, soup, salmon, and broccoli (obviously only half). I know I overate, not that I am in pain, but I just KNOW. Is there a place I can find out how many carbs and fat I should be consuming to lose weight effectivly that fits my body type? 1st fill coming on 2/3. I am worried I am one of those people who loses in the beginning, then stays the same "but not gaining," and never loses any more. I am 265, and that is not an acceptable weight more me to be stuck at. What I really hate is this is where all my other diets get stuck. 20-40lbs gone, the nothing for MONTHS of dieting, and then back to bad habits. I know I won't do that this time, but still. Sorry this is so long winded- there should be a cap! But when I was in high school I weighed 205 as a freshman. I went on a dietician supervised diet of 1000-1200 calories and ran my ass off in volleyball, and I lost 60 lbs from Nov to June. I was losing 3-4 lbs a week. I stopped at 145, then gained steadily since then. I am not supposed to be exercising until after week 6, but could it really hurt to start a couple weeks early?

    One day at a time....

SF ice pops are the best! Once you can start on food, tuna with lots of lite mayo in the food processor is a great way to go. Also, I use 1 egg with egg whites and make scrambled eggs for breakfast everyday. Land O Lakes make a great light butter with either canola or olive oil. I prefer the canola. Eat slowly and chew well when you can start eating. I hated the protein shakes, so I went to soups and eggs quickly. Get the the gym as quickly as you can and stay on your routine. If you can't afford or use a gym, walking and swimming if you have access to a pool. Stay active - at the beginning it is so hard, but it does get easier. When I started at the gym I was able to walk about 5 minutes on the treadmill and increased the length of time, the speed and incline. You will not do it in a day - take your time. It took years to put the weight on, be patient and it will come off. Follow your doctor's instructions and see a nutritionist with your food log. They will give you the best advice. I have cut out carbs, except for what is in veggies. No white products - bread, pizza, pasta, potatos, etc. for at least 1 year. But do what the dr says to do and you will succeed. Good luck and welcome to our little bandster family. Thank you for writing.... I love the SF popsicles. They are a life savior right now. As of Friday, I can start solid liquids so I can increase my diet somewhat. I have protein drinks from Medifast that I can tolerate well and that will help. This first week I am not getting any protein and that scares me. I love walking so I will be walking like crazy again. I usually walk almost 3.5 mile a day with my dog. I am so excited about this.
  18. You are right Bam, I AM getting really good advice/support from this thread. What a great group of encouraging people. I am still on my plateau, but for some reason have stopped caring. I am just too busy! I have SO much to do this time of year. It is IEP hell time(I have like 10 due in the next few weeks!!), semester grades, goal and objective reports, papers to grade, ARG!!!!! I have taken your advice and just learned to relax. I am only worried because for some reason I can eat more than I used to. This caused a problem, because I was starving and ate to fast and had "the pain." My mouth was watering and I thought I might urp- but it passed in about 5 minutes. I was lucky I guess. That is what sucks about having 20-25 minutes to eat eraser sized bites of my 1/2 cup of refried Beans and steamed veggies. I quit counting calories for a while. I mean, I eat the same darn things almost every day and know what is in them. I have been eating closer to 1200 cals, but it is not moving the scale. I am getting 60-80 grams of Protein also, so I am good there. I could probably drink more Water, but I can't leave my classroom because my students are real yahoos, and will probably do something very naughty if I am not in the room. So I drink a lot (of water) when I get home. Thanks again for all of your support- you guys and gals are great!!!!!
  19. Hang in there ALS. I went through the same thing, as have most on this site. Also, don't get your hopes up too much on that first fill. It did help me for about a week and a half , but I've heard from a lot of folks that they didn't even notice. I also hit a plateau, even gained several pounds, between when I started solids and had a fill. Then lost that plus another 5. I just had my second fill and it has started to slowly come off. I can still eat more than what I've been told to eventually expect, but do notice more restriction. It keeps getting easier to eat less. Be strong, keep plugging away. The fills do help.
  20. I am almost 5 weeks out and I am on soft foods. I am so happy with what my sleeve is doing for me. It's just that I feel some kind of, for lack of a better word, weirdness in my stomach all day. Whether it's heartburn, hunger, gas, nausea or like food is not going down, I never feel comfortable. It's very distracting. Any feed back on this? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  21. I have not been banded yet but I am concerned about stuff I am taking, I am taking capsules of prilosec and they kill me when they open up inside my stomach... caplets are easier on me. It says on my pharmacy paper I can open them up onto a soft food but not chew, so I am thinking, yogurt may be the best choice. I am also taking zoloft as of 10 days ago. 50mg I didn't like how I was feeling 6 or 7 days in so I have been breaking them in half vs taking a whole one...... Dr thinks my anxiety issues are creating the acid situation. This is all new to me. Only about 5 weeks ago. My preop endoscopy did not show any thing unusual and the h-pylori was neg.

    Need Advice!

I had a really hard time trying to lay in the bed for the first 2 weeks. So I slept in my recliner and then when I did transition to the bed I would prop pillows all around me.
  24. That would be great, I got back on here to see if it would encourage me to get back on the "band" wagon. I need someone I can relate to. My husband just does not understand, he is overweight too, but does not seem to care and wants to eat anything. It is not easy to stay away from certain foods with the husband and kids always wanting crap. I constantly say we all need to change, but we always go back to our old ways. I have done so many diets since being banded, I finally think I need to just try and stick to the band rules and see if that helps. I go to the doctor again in 6 weeks, I have not been very pro-active about getting fills, I always think I can do this without restriction, stupid!!! I think if I do not lose much she is going to do an upper GI, she said she gave me a "generous" amount, I was at 3.2 in 4cc band last time so now I do not know what I am at, she said she does not want me fixating on the amount. I went 3 months ago for a fill and lost 4lbs as of monday when I got this fill. I never seem satisfied, I ALWAYS want to eat. Anyway, I am rambling on, it is just nice to find someone to talk to, that may understand.
  25. Only one fill, 14 weeks out, 31 # and feeling good...exercise is working, not hungry much...can see the difference...50# to go.:bored: Eating mostly what I should but sometimes eating other things in moderation. Water aerobics helps a lot, treadmill is good but boring. Anyone else banded in March?
