I'm June 8th and getting excited and hoping I have my to do list done! lol All the stuff that I wont be able to in the weeks that follow... I started cleaning out my house and have gotten pretty far... but time flies lol
-
...and I realized that it's because I'm itching to talk about how excited I am about my surgery (only 21 days out now!) but I've driven my husband nuts about it enough for at least another 24 hours. My mom starts in worrying about the safety of the whole thing in general (which is why I decided not to have her stay with me post-op, which I suspect hurt her feelings and I don't even care right now), and the rest of my family I haven't told about it and don't intend to 'til it's done. I've told some close friends, especially the one who's going to be taking care of my cats for me for a week while I'm 236 miles away from home. But otherwise, I've pretty much kept this all under wraps. I'm very definitely not ashamed of any of this--in fact, despite physically feeling yuck right now due to a sinus infection, I'm still really excited. I just feel this extreme aversion to telling the rest of my family about it, mostly because I'm avoiding having one of my (extremely religious) aunts finding out until afterward. I decided that I've got better things to do--like getting my left foot sawed off with a rusty hacksaw dipped in feces--than have her emailing me. She's even notified me in the past that she's asking her prayer circle to pray for me (is there any such thing as in-family confidentiality, and if so, why can't I invoke it?). She's also of the firm belief that being anything less than a total vegan and only using naturopathic remedies as a cure for EVERYTHING (including death, I'm secretly convinced) is somehow akin to sinning. I think the word "fanatic" fits nicely in this sentence. Of course it doesn't help a bit that I'm the black sheep of the family in that I'm an atheist and I'm being offensive if I ask them not to talk about religion to me. Somehow, I'm fair game for constant attempts to reconvert me, but my own reasons for no longer claiming belief in any deity are offensive and irrelevant. This really pisses me off, especially when it has to do with yet another lecture about how my lack of faith somehow caused my obesity. Yep, definitely irritable today. Maybe I should simply send out a mass email to my contacts list, and then systematically set filters on anyone's email address who doesn't respond in a supportive manner, so that all future email from them goes to my Junk folder. It'd be a good litmus test to find out which family members I want to cut out of my life altogether, permanently.

More Confidence In Bed After You Reach Goal Weight?
lovex5 replied to lovex5's topic in The Gals' Room
That is exactly what I'm afraid of. Loose skin and deflated boobs. My husband loves my breasts. After 3 pregnancies, weight gain/loss, nursing etc they do droop some but like I've told him before, in my head it's not as bad since they are huge right now but when they are droopy AND tiny it may be a different story. lol! Oh well, I'll take that any day over being fat -
So I have my surgery date which is in 3 weeks, I wanted I know will the surgery interfere with the birth control shot...one of the reasons I'm having the surgery is to get pregnant but I don't want to right after surgery! Which one works better with the surgery the shot or pill?
-
I'm not too sure but I do know that my doctor told me stop taking my birth control these last weeks leading up to surgery. I guess they higher your risk of blood clots. I'm not having sex right now so I just stopped taking them completely. I'd ask your doctor about it!

Lehigh Valley Hospital In Pa Anyone?
Scoutingismylife! replied to vbgirl264's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Lehigh Valley Hospital was great! Had my surgery on 5/23/12. I started the program at 430lbd and today I am 290!!!!!!!! I am no longer Pre diabetic, no high blood pressure, and no more sleep apnea! This surgery saved my life! I had the roux en y gastrix bypass done by the way. Three months post op I was able to go to the gym without restrictions of weight training/lifting and cardio. Depending on your insurance Lehigh Valley is either a 3 or 6 month program. It starts with the information session night it's about a one hour seminar. Then you are called a few days later to make an appointment to meet the surgeon and discuss surgery options. You'll then meet with the scheduling advisor (her name was Pat) to set a surgery date and follow up appointments throughout the process. You will have several sessions at the Weight management center located across the lehigh valley hospital, cedar Crest. There is a program fee but consider it a down payment for your new life. There you meet with nutritionist, nurse practitioner, behavior specialist, exercise expert, etc... Each meeting is required as the program progresses. All sessions are informative and fun. Hope this helps. Any more questions message me I'd love to answer anything for you! Good luck. -

Getting Discouraged
ProudGrammy replied to KatieOkieDokie's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Katie i'm so sorry you feel bummed out and discouraged, and physically not feeling great either am i reading correctly that you lost 70 lbs pre-op???? OMG thats great as Arts correctly stated, 32 lbs in 6 weeks is wonderful I'm afraid many many people here think that they are gonna have WLS on "friday" and wake up monday morning losing 100 lbs not gonna happen but i think you really do know that - you, like everyone else, just want the weight gone yesterday!!! Water is very very important!!!! not getting enough water in, possibly being totally dehydrated??? sure you will feel weak!!!! gotta force the fluids having blood pressure problems - meds off??? that will cause you to feel weak IMO thats the issue that needs to be fixed glad you have already seen a dr, hopefully he can figure out the prob continue to be pro-active with the doc til he figures out what to do with your meds tell him about the gas issues by not feeling well, not eating or drinking - thats gonna make you feel weak!!!!! gotta force yourself to eat and drink to help yourself do everything very slowly - sipping - taking extra small bites - taking long breaks between forkfuls you will mentally feel better as soon as the physical stuff gradually improves then you won't feel down about your weight situation please remember - you are doing great!!!!! just losing another 2 lb - holy moly girlfriend - you are on the right road to success!!!! take care feel better good luck kathy -
As it turned out, my port was leaking. Had a port revision a few weeks ago. bump in the road I reckon.

My period has been irregular since I was a teenager. I could go 3 months without, or I could have it for 3 months + straight through, and very heavy also. Then again I have been overweight forever. I just started using the Instead menstrual cup yesterday (you can get it at Walgreens) and it has already changed my life. I change it ever 12 hours and no leaking, no messes and it's way more comfortable. WHY I haven't heard of this sooner is crazy to me. I've had my period now since december 5th, but now I barely even notice it. This alone has changed my life. I can't wait til surgery! Hope this helps!

Surgery Tuesday And Im Starting To Fell A Cold Coming...
firstday replied to SecretStarr82's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is Jan 24th and I started with coughing and congestion the Monday before my pre op diet. I had to stop my pre op diet so I can get some real food into me but I'm trying to stick very close to high protein and no sugars and fats. I still lost 2 pounds. My sore throat is getting better. No fever. I still am a little congested and a lot less coughing. I am going to another state for my surgery and I'm praying this won't make for a delay. I am going back on my pre-diet tomorrow. Thank God for this 3 day holiday! I hope you feel better and please let me know what happened. -
Well, I took pics of my scars, but I'm not interested in sharing :-) My stomach was too swollen and it is not flattering! They are tiny red slashes, the biggest one being about 3.5 inches and the other 3 being about .5 inches. I put Mederma and Vitamin E oil on mine and they seem to be fading into nothing just 7 weeks post op. I don't think a tattoo should be used to "cover them up," when, if treated properly, there's nothing to cover up.

A little off 2 week diet pre-surgery.....
catwoman7 replied to blessedgirl1908's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I ate a lot of sugar free Jello, even though under ordinary circumstances I wouldn't touch it with a 10-foot pole. But it was the only "solid" food i could eat for two weeks, so i ate it - and sometimes lots of it - almost every night. -
After 6 months of monitored weight loss..losing 30+ lbs.and getting 4 days before surgery.. and getting a kick in the face.. I decided to call my Dr. office to make sure all the I's were dotted and T's were crossed.. they hadn't gotten insurance approval and my cardiologists didn't give the right paperwork!! My cardiologist is on vacation until 8/3..so I can't get "clearance" from him until he gets back! and I can't have my surgery until 8/12 or 8/19 because they are booked!!! I am so frustrated with this process.. I feel like I was doing this for nothing... Then I took a deep breath, wiped the tears away and thought.. I was not supposed to have this surgery on that day for what ever reason. I am firm believer in "everything happens for a reason", so who ever is watching over my , must have not liked that date!! I was very upset last night, then I really took a step back and realized I have more time to get my body ready for this life change.. I have had a lot of light-headedness , dizziness and nausea.. so my body must need some more time to adjust to this type of eating. ( I have been on 2 week pre-op , 2 shakes a day 1 meal a day eating) I guess I need more time.. someone must know better than me that's why my surgery was postponned...

Surgery before kids ? & what to expect after ..
DD87 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all I am booked in for surgery next week. is it silly to do this before I have children? any tips on really what to expect post operation? I really want to understand what life will be like after this? my job and life is quite social so I feel I will struggle to adjust at first and to cancel a lot of plans last minute i am not telling anyone other than my husband about the surgery / is it hard to hide? what are peoples weight loss journeys like post op? sorry for all the questions!! -
I still fix anything and everything! I have 3 teens and a husband at home and when I thought about it, if I quit cooking the stuff they liked I was more tempted to cheat. Since I still make their desserts and foods they like I dont cheat or feel the need to.... smelling it is enough for me and I have even started to branch out and fix different recipes too!

Ai everyone. I am just stating my "journey ". I went to a seminar at Lenox Hill hospital in NYC. I had my first appointments with the nutritionist , the psychologist, Dr. Yatco and Carla, the insurance wiz Ii am in the process of getting the support letters with weight histories from 3 doctors , filling out the diary sheet, setting up appointments for a ugi and blod work. I am a NYC teacher and tea h summer school. We have 3 weeks off mid august to September. That is when I am hoping to do the surgery. We are only allowed 2 days off in the summer. What else will I need to get insurance approval and the date I want?

Awaiting Insurance Approval
The Laughing Cat replied to goingfoit's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In the information seminar my doctor advised up to a month, different insurance companies vary. In my consultation I was advised my insurance takes about 2 weeks (Healthnet of CA, ***). Mine was approved in 9 calendar days and that included Memorial Day weekend! I was surprised, HMOs don't usually move that fast for me. Best of luck to you. -
I was sleeved 9/30. Level went to 135. Went to my pcp dr yesterday and she confirmed it was a spike due to what I probably had eaten that day and that because of surgery it may fluctuate until my body settles from the changes. She said no worries at this point but be mindful of what I eat. Will recheck levels in 3-4 weeks

Depressed over weight gain
Foxbins replied to barb1952's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do not worry--stick to your diet and in a few days you should see a big drop. I had about 3 lbs extra fluid in me from the IVs as well, and if you had a rough time your body is going to hold onto whatever it needs in order to heal. I bet by next week you are down at least 8 lbs. I have lost 15 lbs in 12 days and five of those days I didn't do anything. Stick with it!
