Hey guys Just wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar. I am 3 weeks post op and for a week now I have had this red, dry splotchy rash just develop out of no where. It started on my shoulders and is literally going everywhere now. I totally get it's prob got something to do with my vitamins and nutrients etc but wondered if anyone else got this? So hard to know what to do and put on it, my doctor doesn't have a clue and not seeing my surgeon till next week. Thanks Sent from my SM-G988B using BariatricPal mobile app -
I had mine done 6/20. So many people are on different nutrition plans. My plan allowed nothing by clear liquids until day 4 post op. Then I could add in protein shakes and that’s it for a week. Just the clear liquids and shakes. Day 11 I think I can add pudding or yogurt or strained soups, but I’d love something now. Being around a whole family who is eating normally is difficult. All I want is to share some food with them.

It’s always best to follow the diet you were given as it will be to follow their post surgical plan. As @liveaboard15 said different surgeons require different diets. My surgeon would put different patients on different diets based on the amount of weight they had to lose, their weight loss history & their medical history. So my friend was on all shakes, her friend was on two shakes & a meal & I was on keto. You can always ask your surgeon why he requires you to follow the all shake diet. The first five or so days are the hardest as you break some addictions & dependencies. You may headaches, low energy, etc. almost like withdrawal symptoms but better to get past this before surgery than after. Some people slip on their pre surgical diet. A slip is okay but regularly going off plan isn’t. The diet is required so you lose some weight to improve your health, reduce fat around your liver so your tummy can be seen more easily during surgery &, as above, break some habits & food dependencies. You can do it. It’s only two weeks. Some have to do it for three or more weeks. -

I drank a few sips of ice tea and vodka and now I feel like there a lump in my throat and my stomach hurts! I REGRET THIS Surgery so much... why did I do this I wasn't huge the scale said that but I had a flat stomach big legs, no HBP, no Diabetes, just IBD, AND GERD! WHY I have no identity now. Eating out, at home, drinking gave me so much pleasure. I feel so stupid. I can't even eat more than 2 bites, I don't want this anymore. I even quit my job. I hate it here! A couple of weeks before Covid hit in 2020 & we entered lockdown I bought this outfit & it has been taunting me in my wardrobe ever since. Decided I wasn’t going to wait for a special event any longer so dinner wth my hairdresser current & former stylist was it. New French inspired restaurant in a small country town. My hair looked way better later as we had our regular hair appointment before dinner. The skirt is amazing. Known as the doona skirt as there is a layer of wadding inside. Still didn’t keep me warm enough though lol.

yes planning on it. see my GI doc in a week. I haven't seen my original surgeon in 7 years- I had to switch to another clinic because of insurance purposes and will discuss with my GI doc which surgeon would be better for the revision (now that i've switched to a BCBS plan they both take).... GERD is still terrible. -

I am 27, scheduled to have the surgery on July 11th. I am preparing to start the 2 week pre op liquid diet. Does anyone have any tips? I know in times past some people were able to eat some lean proteins and veggies. Does anyone know if that changed? I also was curious if anyone happened to slip up at any point? -

It's been a little over 7 months from my surgery (revision from sleeve to bypass) and this morning I stepped on the scale and saw I made it down to 1derland! This comes after a bit of a stall for a week or so, so I just wanted to share and encourage those who are either considering the surgery or are struggling to get through a stall that this does work and if you keep up with your tracking and weighing food and watching what you're putting in your body, it will work for you too!

So just about 10 weeks post op. No issues at all. No pain, I have had zero issues with any foods i have tried, zero issues with any drinks i have had. scars have healed up very nice, Vitamin intake has been good. only causes nausea once in a while. still taking medication for at least a year to prevent gall stones. Heart burn has been zero after the first couple weeks (which was very bad) My daily meals typically consist of either a chicken egg or 2 quail eggs with onions, banana peppers and cheese (Or if i am not feeling like food, i have a core power protein shake) Lunch typically either grilled chicken or tuna Dinner for most days i have grilled king salmon I went out to eat for the first time a few days ago. Friends and I were on a boat fishing and we decided to ride over to a restaurant on the water and i ordered the Grilled Shrimp that came with French fries. Out of the 10 grilled shrimp i could only eat 5 of them. I also had probably 7 fries out of the basket. But still it was nice. Gave the rest of the food to friends to eat since we were still going to be out on the water for a bit. Clothing has been a change. I have had to buy a new belt as the old one was too big as well as my pants. Shirts so far i am down from a 3-4 XL to 2XL ALMOST DOWN 60LB so far

My surgery was originally scheduled for March 17. I did the 2 week pre-op diet which was miserable. Like everyone, I had my doubts if I was doing the right thing. Then 2 days before I was positive for Covid and the surgery was postponed. Though I wanted to continue on a good path, I was not ablet to and before long I was eating like my old self. Every difficult thing I encountered due to my weight depressed me because I knew I should've been X weeks past the surgery by now. Most of the doubts I had disappeared. I realized how depressed I was it was postponed. Maybe it turned out to be for the best, because as the new date approached, I had almost no doubts. I was ready. The surgery was June 21, it went very well and I'm on the road to recovery. The postponement may have been a blessing in disguise. I don't know anyone that wasn't nervous, it's a part of the process.

I had surgery on the 6th and I had pain getting out of bed for 5 days after I came home. Try sleeping on an a gle, it makes it easier to get out of bed. It does get better..I'm now 2 1/2 weeks post op and I have no problems with pain getting out of bed now. Sent from my SM-G981V using BariatricPal mobile app

I feel like I've finally gotten past the biggest hurdle. Surgery date is September 6th, the day after Labor Day, and yesterday I got my insurance approval letter. I've followed everything they've told me to do, and I've even lost 30 lbs on my own since hubby had to change his diet for diabetes. No worries now about having to do 4 weeks of the liver shrinking diet instead of 2. On my initial visit, if I had gained just 5lbs I would have had to do 4 weeks. It's getting closer. Just 2 more months to wait.

Although the prep work took energy, I found the biggest hurdle was post-operative. The first 48 hrs were extremely uncomfortable. I did an overnight and trying to down the liquids, Tylenol, and especially the barium was rough. Thankfully though, I got away with only having to have 1 belly injection after surgery. Needless are not my thing.

I'm getting closer to being able to get a surgery date! My dr's office called the other date and got me scheduled for my upper endoscopy which is one of the last things needed before I get my date. I have a pre-op appointment on 7/1 and then my endoscopy is on 7/8. I'm still waiting on the psychologist to call me back this week for my evaluation with them which is a phone appointment. It was supposed to be on 6/16 but they haven't called yet. After my endoscopy they will submit to my insurance for approval and a week or two after that I should get a date!!! -

I'm a month out now. Down 18 lbs since surgery. I didn't come out of surgery at a higher weight and I continued to lose weight the first week or two. Then the stall hit. It's hard not to get frustrated when the weight isn't dropping. Especially since I saw it drop so fast on the liver shrinking diet. The pace of loss now is not nearly as exciting. Even knowing in advance that I won't see the same rate of loss and that there will be a stall. I just have to remind myself that the 19 lbs I've lost in the last month is still a greater weight loss than I was able to do on my own in the last 10 years. And I have to remind myself that even at a relatively slow weight loss of 5 lbs per month I can reach my goal weight in a year. That's really pretty fast when you think about it. -

I have also felt bruised around my mid section but nothing near as bad as the gas pain I had. By the time the gas started working itself out a few days later, I finally started feeling a bit of discomfort from the surgery itself. I just took tylenol (I couldn't stand the pain medicine they gave me) every morning and every night and it seemed to work well. I just started week three and while I still have some slight discomfort, it's not bad at all. I'd say the worst days were the first couple after coming home. I use a pillow pressed against the right center of my abdominal area when I have to cough or sneeze and it helps a lot as that is when I seem to notice a bit more discomfort. I have a pretty high pain tolerance so that may be why I feel like the surgical pain was the least pain I've experienced compared to the gas pains but I promise you, it will continue to ease up each day. I'm trying to get back to being active again since I go back to work Monday and I feel like just sitting around is not conducive to a quicker recovery and it seems to be going well. Rest and relaxation is good for the first week though so take it easy maybe and just try to get up and move around a few times a day! Wishing you the best over the next couple of weeks! WK 3, puree week, is a game changer. I made homemade egg salad with my backyard chicken eggs yesterday and oh my gosh, it was amazing! Hehe! -

Lapband removal, Gastric bypass, and hernia repair scheduled for July 6th. I’m 4 days into my preop diet, which is 2 weeks of a shake for breakfast and lunch and a healthy choice steamer for dinner. I’ve been enhancing the healthy choice meal with extra steamed broccoli, which is helping. I think I’m beyond the worst hunger pains now. -

I was on an IV after surgery for two and a half days. I came home from hospital very swollen from fluids. It hurt my feet just to walk. Happily after about 5 days the excess water had left my body. Weighing once a week will help you avoid the fluctuations that happen normally in our bodies. -
Post Op Return to work question

I scheduled 3 weeks off, thinking that I mightn't need all of it, but was really glad I did. I think I *could* have got back to work in the second week but I wouldn't have been even nearly back up to speed by then. I could have sat at my desk but I would absolutely NOT have been as on top of my work as I like to be. Everyone is different - if you can build some flexibility into your return to work then that might be the way to go. Best of luck - it's an amazing journey -

Yup, water weight. I was advised to not weigh for 3 weeks after surgery. If you can resist weighing, you’ll get a pleasant surprise when you finally do! -
Almost 8 weeks post op, when can I eat certain foods ?

I am 6 weeks post-op and am able to eat pretty much anything and everything....including things I really shouldn't eat. I even had fried chicken at a family gathering - a leg and a wing. It was delicious and went down WAY too easy. Fortunately, I have continued to lose weight, although probably slower than many of you. I realize my weight loss would be quicker if I stuck with just lean protein and veggies - which I do MOST of the time - but I'm 62 yrs old and for me, the purpose of the surgery was to have a tool to help me not OVEREAT, as I have done all of my life, but still be able to enjoy my favorite foods in moderation. ALL THINGS in moderation! Fortunately, my nutritionist's plan does not exclude carbs - in fact, whole grain breads and pasta are included and encouraged in the program I am on. I am just so happy that I have been fortunate enough to have had an easy recovery from the surgery and absolutely none of the bad side effects. I continue to drink the protein20 waters to supplement my protein intake in order to allow me to enjoy other foods in my small tummy, and to help me with hydration - the ONE thing I still struggle with is getting my 64 oz in daily.
