My hubby and I were both banded yesterday!
Beverly1010 replied to Kandorf's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Tracyinks, You look awesome, how much ahve you lost, how long??? Would you please give me some advice on about how many calories a day do u eat....... About how much weight a week do u lose..... I was banded 10-10-07, still a newbie. -
So...ya I guess my plan was way too much for me. I still did a great job n am very proud of what I accomplished. I tracked everything I ate n didn't always stay within my calories. I actually upped them to 1200 because I could not do 1000. I worked out almost every day and originally wanted to do 2 hours a day but actually did anywhere from 1-2 hrs a day. I lost 2 lbs ( one, a week) so hey that's 2 lbs of butter visually. I actually believe I lost inches cause my blouses feel looser. So now my plan for eating and work is to be prepared with breakfast, lunch, n snack. I started to freeze 1cup servings of food to take for my lunch. I work in a grocery store n could literally buy anything which could b good n bad at the same time.

What Does Your Doctor/nutritionist Recommend For Your Post Lap-Band Diet?
itskimberly replied to Toddy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told 60-80 grams of protein, never said anything on carbs or calories, but to stay on low fat, fat free and to only eat 1/2 a cup of food at each meal. I was also told to have 3 meals and 2 snacks a day and to exercise, exercise and exercise. -
What Does Your Doctor/nutritionist Recommend For Your Post Lap-Band Diet?
Cazzy replied to Toddy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on 800 to 1000 calories a day low fat high protein, I was always doing restricted carbs because of my diabetes so i carried on eating around 35 a day ... i gave up all processed and white grain food .. dont miss it at all and it works for me ...I have 3 meals a day plenty of fish and chicken, non root veg and sugar free jello 0% greek yoghurt and skimmed milk and exercise as much as i am able .. Even at my starting weight of 400lbs i only had diabetes and now that is cured .. its been worth eating food that i need and not eating food i want ... good luck -
You are listing exactly what you are eating, calories, protein grams, etc etc Are you getting all your liquid in, etc.

I am having problems getting the proper amount of protein in. I don't like the protein powder, nor the drinks that I can buy at the grocery stores. However, I got fat free yogart, 1% milk and strawberries and I will mix some of each together along with some ice and protein powder and see if that helps. I hope it does. I just got my third fill today. I am not losing much weight at all and have been trying so hard to do what I have been told. I hope I soon get to a fill that restricts me and I start losing some weight. It really is a challenge, count the protein, count the calories, count the carbs. One can go crazy trying to get the proper amount of each in a days time. I am going to concentrate however on the protein. My hair has been falling out and I know it is from not getting the proper amount of protein. You came a long way. I hope you buy yourself something really special. Good Luck!

Hi Gabby, What a motivating share... I am so happy for you and your family. You and your husband are really doing a wonderful job with your LapBand's. I don't think I will be able to report as much success when I hit 3 months in May. How many fills have you had and at what level have you reached? Are you feeling good restriction? You mentioned retricting your caloric intake following some Easter candy... What range do you try to stay at? Is it difficult to restrict your calories or are you just not hungry? Sorry for all the questions, but I am frustrated at being 2 months out, only 15lbs down... I have 1 fill at 1cc and can't wait for fill number 2. Thanks, Anne

Hey Gabby- Wow! 45lbs in 3 months is awesome! Its great that you and your husband are able to do this together. I'd also be interested in knowing th calorie range you aim for. Do you exercise? Melissa

Have you spoken with the surgeon's office? This is common and they should have warned you about it. Its more than likely due to sugar/caffeine removal and lower calories than anything else. I didn't cold turkey anything. I spent 3 weeks before weaning off caffeine/sodas. Not touched a drop in years. I didn't have a problem but if you cold turkey anything, that's what will happen.

Can I get some feedback!(please)
Bufflehead replied to iamblessed1225's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
@@iamblessed1225 I like roasted seaweed as a snack. Very low calorie. I also like making turkey pepperoni crisps: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/pepperoni-crisps/ microwave version: http://www.mamalovesfood.com/2012/09/cripsy-pepperoni-chips.html I find the microwave version works best if you line the plate with parchment paper. You can also make cheese crisps (watch the calories on those though!): http://www.wikihow.com/Make-Cheese-Chips -
I think you should do both. The cardio boosts your heart level and helps burn calories. The strength will help get/keep you toned. You want to sustain your muscle as you continue to lose weight. Change things up a bit if you are getting bored. Hot weather is coming, are you able to swim? That is great exercise. Your body has probably gotten used to your routine. Try to do something you enjoy, that way it won't be so much of a task, you'll look forward to it.

Protein drink that tastes awesome!
pstock911 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I discovered a protein drink that will ROCK your world ... if you like orange cream. Betty Lou's Low Glycemic protein shake. Gluten and sugar free with 20 g of protein and180 calories. It's definitely going to be hard to drink just one. My new go-to shake for sure! -
Halfway through pre-op liquid diet-some thoughts.
Butch Luce posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Today is the 7th day of my pre-op liquid diet. Maybe my thoughts may help others. First, I'm proud to say I did not cheat. I was tempted a few times when I was around prepared food such as at a meeting I attended. Fortunately the meal was at the end of the meeting so I made an excuse and went home. Also, I did not go to Lions Club which has a buffet meal during the meeting. I followed my Drs. guidelines religiously. Generally I would have a Protein shake with almond milk or skim milk for Breakfast, then a half cup of Greek yogurt for a mid morning snack, then a premier Protein Shake and another half cup of yogurt at lunch, then drink an Isopure in the afternoon, 32 oz of cold Water in the late afternoon and early evening, then broth for supper. Supper was what I looked forward to all day because it was hot-my hot meal for the day. I alternated among chicken, vegetable, beef broth and then a couple of times had canned tomato Soup with powdered protein added. I usually did not add protein to the broths. I kept track of my "meals and snacks" and ranged from a low of 83 gr. Protein to a high of 164 gr. For calories I ranged from a low of 445 to a high of 978. I tried to hit 60-80gr. Protein and 700-900 calories/ day. I highly recommend keeping track of everything so you can compare meals/days. It has worked for me. As everyone says, the first 2-3 days are the toughest then I sort of got used to it and fell into a routine. Finally, I am retired so it is much easier for me to control things-I know it would be much more difficult if I were still working. Feel free to ask questions. Good luck! It's very hard, but it's something that you really want. You have to put into play how much you really want this and want's more important. I know you want that discomfort from you knees to go away. On the other hand, thank God you have a doctor that's more interested in your safety. I know sticking to a certain amount of calories is hard, I'll say a prayer for you. Try to do low carb dieting/ Atkins or South Beach. I have faith that you can do it. Good Luck to you.

Baby after WLS?
Brenda Sherwood replied to tiff062712's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
As others have said, it is possible. I just wanted to add that if you know you want to get pregnant, the lap band may be best as you can unfill it when you do get pregnant so you can get more calories in for the baby, then after pregnancy fill up again Sent from my SM-G900P using the BariatricPal App -
Hi allamess, no wonder you feel miserable if you're hungry and lightheaded all the time! I 've been banded for a month and found in the early days I needed to eat more than three meals a day because I would get so full from a small amount of food. I'd have a LITTLE healthy snack between meals to stop that horrible low blood sugar feeling. As for recipes, if you are wanting to stay away from breads etc maybe you could try some vegetarian recipes. I have found recipes with lentils and chickpeas, and tofu to be fabulous since being banded. They help with your Protein intake, and tend to be nice a moist so I haven't had any problems with them going down. If you do a google search for dahl, vegan burgers, 'neat' balls, chickpea stew you will find zillions of recipes that I've found are perfect for bandster eating because they are so nutritious, and very filling. OH, and they tend to be low fat, low calorie too .... how cool is that?? Susie

The weight loss your surgeon gives you are based on state and/or country wide AVERAGES. So, it is exactly that and average. Some less, some more. Not one person is the same with anything let alone weight loss. You have had HUGE success, loosing 120 lbs in a year is astronomical! Good for you, be proud of that. The closer you get to goal weight, the slower the weigh drops because you have less of a calorie deficit. If you want to keep loosing, keep pushing. Track all of your foods and if possible, cut a few ore calories. Get those fluids! Regardless of WLS they are SO important to overall well being. I have always been a huge water drinker, so I have been exceeding my fluids goals since about 2 weeks after surgery and never have an issue. But, seriously I drink all day long. I still wait 30 before and after meals but I only eat 3 times a day so that is easier than when eating 5 meals a day. Find a schedule that works for you and run with it. I have the same routine all week at work, and then a slightly modified weekend routine. Best of luck to you, keep swimming!

My rant..... Maybe I'm just being a brat but I feel like I don't have support on my decision to have lapband. Yes I spent the money because I was tired of the struggle of not losing weight. Not that I still don't struggle but my lapband helps me. So yesterday I was told by my step mother that she's lost 39 lbs (same as me) that what helped her lose weight was the motivation that I got surgery and spent money and she was gonna prove that she could do it without that. Geeeee thanks! 😒 Mind you we never had a great relationship. Glad I could motivate you in such a way to make yourself healthier. Idk how to respond I was just like well I needed it and said I was happy I could help. But part of me felt like it was a jab and I even told my husband about it and he had no comment and I know he didn't because he also thinks I shouldn't have done the surgery and paid money for it. My step mother has been losing consistently but in 300 calories maybe 500 if that. Well I'm still enjoying my food and wine and losing weight not starving myself. Granted I have days I can't eat without being stuck all day but usually I can have a decent meal with no issues. Anyways I really can't help but feeling irritated that she said that. Idk but I do know I've tried and without my band I wouldn't have lost the weight I have so far. I know there will always be nasty comments but ugh it sucks. Especially feeling like she was pretty much laughing in your face like hahaha I lost weight and didn't spend all that money. Idk feeling irritated 😤

I have not posted in a few days. I actually have been sort of busy. Today is my 7th day being banded. I feel ok. I had one day of wanting to chew for the sake of chewing. I definitely was not hungry. I have yet to break the 500 calorie mark. I drink unjury and put it in my soup, I don't really care for the taste of either the chocolate or the vanilla, but they will do. The unflavored one mixes well into my soups. I may try it in juice tomorrow. The pain is subsiding. That's good becasue my pain pills are worthless. A doublt dose of liquid tylenol seems to work better. My five-year old had given me a few good shots in the stitches. OF course it was by accident, but that didn't make it hurt any less. Two of my incisions are virtually pain free and three are not. My belly itches to high heaven. I constanty feel like I just ate Thanksgiving dinner and the gas is getting on my nerves - sort of. I am burping and pass gas like a mad woman! Hmmm, I have not had a real BM in two days. By real I mean liquid or otherwise. Lately is been liquid. I guess I hope to have one later today? Yeah I guess I do. Well I need to go to sleep because I have church today. Happy reading and I hope I wasn't too graphic.

2 wks post-op...Why am I so tired!
Sue Magoo replied to Erika41910's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi: I started mourning food when I was post op and it made me feel depressed. When I'm depressed I'm exhausted. Luckily it didn't last too long. Some people react differently to anesthesia. If you're eating enough Protein and calories and taking Vitamins it sounds like you're doing the right things. I agree with Sashay02. I hope you feel better soon. Sue -
I agree it is usually tight at breakfast and then looser at dinner. Your body must just react differently to the band. Try to have the good protein shakes you like availabe when it gets real tight to at least have that to sip on for your meal. I really like the Pure Protein drinks that come in a can like soda because they are easy to grab to take with me. They are 35 grams of protein. Try to count your calories threw the day to make sure you not going way under what you should be eating. I know that sounds weird because diet was usually starvation but when we don't eat our body metabilism shuts down and your body goes in starvation mode. You will feel tired and fatiged but not loose weight. I have done it a few times and I think to myself I am practically starving why am I not dropping wieght. Your body will think it is in starvation mode and just shut down and any little bit you do put in it will just hold onto. Our bodies are amazing and you will really start looking at everything as a science with protein and vitamins for fuel not just eat it to fill your belly. Just be careful with the soups because they are super salty and when your tight it is hard to get the water you need and by having lots of salt your going to have cotton mouth and feel FAMISHED for liquids. It is a balance that everyone's body is difference and some need more iron some need more B-12. I love the Bariatric Advantage multi vitamins you can get online because they are easy to chew and taste good. Then you know at least your multi vita are covered for the day. Check them out if you need suppliments or vita that are made for Weight loss patients. Good luck.

Whine with dinner or wine with dinner?
larrypdot replied to larpens's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
10 days? That is pretty soon to be falling back to bad habits. It probably will not hurt you but remember alcohol is empty calories. The other thing to remember is you cannot drink it until after 30 minutes, so you probably will be drinking on an empty stomach, this will increase the effects of the alcohol. If you are going to drink you still need to treat it like anything else you put into you. It goes into you daily calorie count. Check the calories, you will probably say no to that margarita once you see how high it is. I do occasionally have a drink now but when I do it is bourbon on the rocks or strait up, no mixers for me. I love wine and beer but both are so high in calories that I usually stay away from them. -
10 Months Into My Gastric Sleeve Surgery
Finding MeMe replied to MissShonnie's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I don't count carbs, calories, fats or sugars. I just exercise at least 5 days per week for at least 60 minutes. I also lift wts three days per week. I find that if I don't workout consistantly I won't lose wt and If I want to gain I just lighten up on working out and stop eating when full. I know that I should know my optimum levels for wt. loss but just adjusting my exercise level and time works for me..
