    February 2019 weight loss buds

Here is one example of the saggy neck and wrinkles where I never had them before. I’ll be honest though and say that even if I knew how much older in the face this would make me look, I’d still do it 100/100 times. So I had to endure breast cancer and I got new boobs out of it 10 years ago. This time I’ll endure this and get a facelift out of it. I’ve actually started working on a budget and pricing different procedures. I’m more than likely going towards an S-lift, but won’t know for sure until I have a consult. Which will still be after the first of the year. I want to make absolutely for sure that I’m well and good out of my honeymoon period and that weight loss is stopped before making any decisions. Even if I lost just another 10-15 pounds it could make a huge difference. Besides, it will give me more time to save up. Gaby, I’m really keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well with your endoscopy. Please keep us posted. Emzbe, I was fine until about a month ago, and now I’m definitely needing laxative help. Not sure why my bowels have waited til now to go into lockdown mode, but it’s a daily struggle. I need to get more aggressive in treating it, because I’ve noticed that when things are super backed up I can barely eat more than 1/2 cup food w/o feeling ill, but then I’m hungry again 3-4 hours later and it’s frustrating bc I feel as if it’s throwing me off of my TRE regimen.

    The Maintenance Thread

What stinks about my local group is meeting times only 2x monthly and right now they’re during work shifts that I can’t get out of. Every now and then my schedule rotates, but I can only get to support group 2-3 months out of every year. Also, they ( understandably) cater to pre-surgery patients and about 95% of the program isn’t what I need for it to be now. I’m admittedly looking hard for a local support group bc this is getting more and more difficult.

    The Maintenance Thread

Wow! So this really gives me a much- needed lift today. My mood today has been kinda “meh” bc after posting my planned calories for the day, I couldn’t finish all of my protein shake or even half my p3. In fact, I was so disgusted that I couldn’t get my calories in that I took a pity pic. lol, there it is at my work station—- the sad remainders of food I couldn’t eat. At least I did go with the cottage cheese first and finished it. Anyways, I’m starting to think that my body really isn’t ready to stop losing yet, which is kinda disappointing (yes, you read that right) because my mind is really over losing and I’m very happy with how I look and I’d love to be able to just get to maintenance, ya know?
  5. I remember being so incredibly stressed out after surgery bc I couldn’t eat anything. I literally had an 800 calorie week during week 2, so please don’t stress out getting in much besides water at this point. I know everyone touts how important protein is (and it IS!) but trust me, you can go a few weeks without and you’ll be fine. If the new tummy isn’t ready for even shakes, then wait a couple of days. The shakes will still be there. I had a complete and utter aversion to any kind of sweetened protein shake. It was so bad that I turned to plain milk (fairlife bc of the higher protein levels) and that’s what I primarily used the first month to get my protein in. Cottage cheese (starting week 3) was also a huge go-to for me as it’s a “slider” and it’s very protein rich. You’ll get this: go slow and easy and listen to your body. You’re absolutely doing the right thing by focusing first on water.

    OOTD

Okay so I have news for you: That shirt doesn’t fit.... it’s TOO BIG. 🤣🤣🤣 Congrats, bc now you need a newer, smaller one.
  7. Honestly I didn’t bother blending stuff too much. I just este soft foods during the puréed phase. Things like yogurt, cottage cheese and soups (with added protein powder). The phase goes by quickly and you eat so little, it’s almost not worth the effort of preparing anything too complicated. For example, I made a tuna salad one day, and I took about 2-3 spoonfuls as I was making it, to taste for salt and seasoning, etc. I was full by the time the darn thing was ready and I ended up putting in the fridge. That same tuna salad fed me for like 2 days. Lol. So you may not even need a blender.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Okay so I’m going to start posting like crazy in the maintenance thread bc many of these issues are now very suddenly relevant to me as well. Today I FINALLY hit goal guys. 8 months, 5 days post-op. I still haven’t “found” my appetite. Still struggle if I try to get in over 800 calorie. Maybe that means my body wants to lose more weight. Who knows, this is all new to me, lol! Hell I set this goal weight without truly believing it was actually possible. I seriously mean that bc there’s no way I thought I’d lose >90% of my excess weight with the sleeve. Maybe my body “knows” there is more to go and it’s just doing its thing. Yours might be doing that as well. At 5’7” and 155, I could still lose 10-15 more and not be overly concerned ( I was 130 most of college) , but I love how I look now and wouldn’t mind if I “only” lost another 5 and stopped cold and stayed right at 150-ish pounds for the rest of my life. I don’t have a great answer, but when I read about forcing some extra calories and carbs, it gives me an unsettled feeling. Mostly bc my whole life has been spent trying to reduce, that trying to force seems so unnatural. Not saying it’s wrong, just saying the whole concept freaks me out.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

So I was in the 240’s for the reduction, which was approximately what I was when got sleeved, so a BMI of around 40%. Of course 9 years ago I had zero idea that I’d have WLS. We are almost the same height. I call myself 5’7”, but in actuality I’m 5’6 and 3/4. 7/8 on a good day, lol. Here would be my advice: do it if you’re within 20-30 pounds of GW, but if you have >30 pounds, hold off The reason is that once you pull the trigger on this, you want to avoid sag as much as possible. My favorite thing about my reduction was that I didn’t have any sag or droop. Everything was “High and tight” and now they’re sagging slightly bc of some (but not much) loose skin. It’s nothing that the right bra can’t fix, but why not try for the best results possible, ya know? I’ll be just fine as long as I don’t lose too much more volume (honestly there isn’t much more to lose anymore, but I’m happy with that) if I lose much more volume the loose skin (rather than the loss of boobs) will bother me slightly. IMO, having “normal” or “1 size under normal” size boobs makes a woman look much slimmer than any other single thing. Just my opinion

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Okay so everyone has different pain thresholds. I will say that I’ve had multiple surgeries in my life and this was very painful. But....... it was totally and completely a million times worth it. Opioids (just a few days) will be your friend and so will ace bandages. I can remember my mother (didn’t know my husband then and I was single) helping me wrap up daily and that helped a lot. So if you have a helper it’s totally doable. Also I had/have a job where it is almost impossible to take enough time off to recover. I was back at work 7 days after my reduction, which is ridiculous, IMO. If I recall correctly, I was on opiates for 2-3 days around the clock, then backed off and took them as needed for the next couple of days. Would take 1 at bedtime after working bc I was sore from having to use my arms. I’m a pharmacist and the pain of having to screw on and off childproof lids on bottles almost killed me, but you just cannot do my job without being able to use your arms like that

    OOTD

Okay so I’m so psyched bc I’ve ordered an awesome fabletics outfit for myself for my bday next week. Yeah, I spent my bday clothes budget on workout clothes. Can’t wait to post my OOTD when those come in

    november sleeve

I have a scheduled appointment with my surgeon on Monday and I'm getting nervous bc this is the last time I see them before my surgery! I'll be starting my liquid pre op diet soon after for 7-10 days. My husband has promised to support me bc he expects that I'll be very cranky and hangry! Lol. Overall I'm looking forward to the next step and I'll be on the app alot for extra support! Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app
  13. I had my sleeve done in Mexico on the 1st by Dr. Illan at Hospital BC. I feel great! I’ve followed all directions for home care (well....). And I felt marvelous the day I went home. I won’t lie, the gas pains were a little irritating the first night, but a heating pad and my own tender massage made it all better. As far as meds go? I came home with a bunch. All put one was supplied by the hospital. I had to buy the blood thinner shots. They were very inexpensive. Now, I’m not trying to make anyone out there feel bad because if they’ve already had surgery, are having surgery right now and their experience is not the same as mine. God knows, I gleaned a lot of wisdom from this site prior to my surgery. Please remember, everyone is different! So, enjoy your new adventure, and let it just happen, the way it’s supposed too.Wow, I guess now I actually belong on the Post Surgery group. Soon, so will you......

    Gastric bypass or sleeve

I am glad I got sleeved bc It’s working just fine for me. I think a lot of issues get highlighted and magnified here. If everyone had issues with sleeve surgery they wouldn’t do it. My bloodwork was a 180 within a month of getting it done. I know some people have problems but I also think taking your doctors best advice is the way to go. Asking an online forum is not how I would treat cancer or an infection so I’m sticking with medical advice from the doc.
  15. There was no right shake for me. They all taste bad but the premixed Premier were least offensive. I froze a few to eat like ice cream. I preferred the fruity clear drinks bc they weren’t so thick and heavy.  I don’t drink any of them now. In fact I was off of them as soon as I went on solid food. My docs prefer if you can get your protein without the drinks and avoid drinking extra calories, and I was totally ok with that. I usually am able to get 60-80g of protein daily so I don’t use them at all but I was also lucky enough to heal rapidly.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Okay guys so today is my 8 month surgiversary. My GW is 155, and true to form (me being more of the tortoise than the hare) I’ve fallen 1 pound SHORT of goal for this date. Am I gonna let it stop me or discourage me? Nope! In fact I’m doubling down this week bc my bday is in 10 days and maybe I can at least hit my goal by my secondary GW date. Never give up!
  17. Tastes will change. At first I couldn’t stomach any protein shakes bc they were so over-the-top sweet. So I drank nothing but fairlife milk bc it has so much protein in it. I also use a lot of savory products. Love the bariatric cream of chicken and tomato. Lots of times I’ll add a scoop of beef bone broth powder to miso soup. It’s pretty decent. I’ve also done the bariatric hot chocolate and the oatmeal. Lately though, I tried the premier protein again and I get the caramel and bananas and cream and add to iced coffee over a lot of crushed ice (1:1 ratio) and it’s pretty delicious. In fact, I just ordered their pumpkin spice and I can’t wait to try it out. Don’t be afraid to try new things and even periodically go back to previously tried things. Your tastes will change over time

    Eating Salad

I love salad and the texture isn’t an issue for me but it was the first and I believe only thing to come back up since surgery. I have a huge sensitivity to strong flavors and smells like garlic now. And oil. Anything oily makes me super nauseous so a little light French is my normal go to. Which is weird bc I’ve always been an Italian lover but not anymore.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Looking GREAT! isn’t it funny? Many people seeing us for the first time would never guess that 8 months ago we were scheduled for bariatric surgery. This morning I had an early Pilates class and it was a beginner level class bc that time slot was the only one that worked for me. There were a couple brand new ladies in class— both of them fairly overweight— I’ve done Pilates for 7 months now and know all of the mods to make my workout tougher. One of the newbies said something about it and yet another member said “maybe we can do those things if we can get as skinny as her” Felt surreal to hear that

    October Surgery Roll Call

I just returned from having a mini gastric bypass on October 1 and I have to agree with @ypease, Dr. Ilan and the whole staff at Hospital BC are amazing! I have never had such attentive nurses at any other hospital, the level of care was outstanding. I had some nausea after surgery but once that passed I could not believe how fast I was up walking around and feeling great. Also, If you do go, take the tour. I was not planning to go but I’m glad I did because I had such a good time.
  21. OK kids, here's my Sleeve story - I flew down 9/29 to Hospital BC (Bariatric Pal) in Mexico. I spent the night and had my procedure the next morning. All went well! I came through like a champ. Recovery was goofy as always with general anesthetic. However, by about 6 pm I was ready to roll. The only pain I had was muscle spasms from the gas. I didn't ask for pain meds. When I left, the hospital supplied me with all the meds i needed and 1 prescription for blood thinners. The valet took us directly to a pharmacy where they give a nice discount for your purchase. So I was set to go home. If you are considering WLS in Mexico, please go to Hospital BC! Dr. Illan is a marvelous surgeon with tons of accreditations (plus he is just a wonderful fun person). Every Valet I saw and or met was super attentive and the nurses and other doctors were fabulous as well. BTW, the hotel you go to...The Real, just let me say I think it's a 5 star. The rooms are spacious, modern, have all the amenities you would look for when vacationing +. The tour through Tijuana? That was out standing as well. Our guide Juan is knowledgable and also seemed to know the conversion rates darn well. Cesar's where we had lunch was outstanding! A bit of old Hollywood glamor (dating myself a little) style yet modernized. We watched as they hand tossed salads at "other" tables, and feasted on a sumptuous Onion soup. After a hard day of shopping and sight seeing we went back to the hotel. WOW! Was it hard to fly home today. I'm just saying, please oh pleas, consider BC Hospital. Of course you can find wls surgery for less, but why when you can go be treated like royalty by Dr. Illan and his Team?
  22. Thank you all for these tips. I found through my weight loss I became very obsessive and would be self conscious anytime I ate something I wasn’t suppose to : which is good and bad, good bc I’m aware, bad because I beat myself up over it. The weight gain was fast and unexpected. I started today my do over diet, I didn’t realize how off track I. W.a.s because I found myself lost at what to pack for lunch. I appreciate all your support, I forget that this is a life long journey not just a quick fix and I really do need to work at it. I’m happy you guys responded to me and helped. Thanks so much.
  23. I’m 8 months out and struggle mightily to get in >800 calories daily. I’m probably an outlier though bc I avoid carbs (unless they’re in salad packs) and eat primarily meat and cheese and other dairy. Those things take up a lot of room in a sleeve Until you can get in 65gm protein daily with ease, I would focus more on TRE than on trying any kind of fast over 16-18 hours. Even now I pretty much live in a 16:8 or 18:6 zone. Every now and then I’ll do a 24 hour fast, but I waited til 6 months post-op before I tried that

    February 2019 weight loss buds

I ❤️ this post! Losing 87 pounds is crazy good progress! I’m feeling you on the excess skin. I’m kinda bummed to realize that for me to truly achieve ALL of my goals, then skin removal might have to be in my future. I’m almost beyond any hope that the places that are really loose and saggy are going to fix themselves, but for now I’m going to take it one day at a time. I posted this in the OOTD thread, but I’m pretty excited bc an outfit I ordered came in and the weather finally turned cool enough for me to start wearing tights and boots. If you would’ve told me that I’d be wearing size medium 8 months ago I would’ve danced and not stop dancing. Now I try to not be upset about having to wear the tights to keep the extra skin sag from showing because it means what used to fill out all that extra skin is now gone
  25. I had my surgery on the first as well. Feeling great! Some gas pain of & on but otherwise ok. 4 incisions & not sore. I found sleeping on my stomach helps with the gas. Hospital BC In Mexico (BariatricPal) is a great place to have your wls done!
