    I'm Beat...

Jill, so sorry for all the stress and anxiety this has placed on you. I hope you are able to get this resolved before the end of the year. Some people are just very sensitive to the band and it causes problems for them. My surgeon no longer places them and has started doing the sleeve on everyone due to problems like yours. He says he has more patients fail than succeed. I was lucky, the band has worked for me,. Good luck on your revision.

    Will Cigna cover me?

So still waiting for my PCP to send a revised letter of medical necessity to my surgeons office so they can send it to insurance again. I am trying to stay calm but SOOOO anxious! Crossing my fingers
  3. Good luck w/ all the revisions! I am 2 weeks, 2 days post-op & generally, feel pretty good! Down 16 lbs. so far & just trying to remind myself to DRINK!!! LOL! So glad I did it & looking forward to maintaining for life!

Revision from Lap Band to Gastric Bypass

Good luck to everyone. I had my band placed in 2008. Two yrs ago I started having problems with my band being too tight (last fill 10/09), reflux, food getting stuck, weight gain, and the worst for me, the health problems I was trying to prevent by having surgery in the first place. I am hoping to get approval for revision soon. I was self pay with band surgery, but I currently have Humana. I am scheduled for an EGD and esophageal manometry on Aug 1st. If my surgeon can find a medical reason why I need the revision my insurance will cover it.
  5. Hey everyone, I had gastric sleeve revision surgery over 6 months ago and I have lost almost 40 pounds. I still have 20 to lose to get to goal, although I am happy to finally being able to squeeze into most of my skinny clothes. As you know, revision surgery patients lose at a slower pace, but I wanted to see how I was doing compared to other revisioners! Please tell me your stats!!
  6. Not sure it's healthy to compare. Everyone is different. There are too many factors that come into play when we're talking about weight loss. Personally, I'm OK with the slow weight loss. Would I like it to be faster? Certainly, but I accept the consequences of the fact that I'm probably more relaxed with my diet plan than most. I feel great, my clothes fit better, I have more energy and ambition. I'm just all around in a better place, and isn't THAT what it's all about? Health and happiness? If you must compare: I had gastric sleeve revision surgery about a month after you. I've lost 40 lbs since surgery. Not to harp on the not comparing theme, but our experiences may be different. I didn't have a direct revision. I had my lap band out in 2009 and tried to go it alone. I was doing well maintaining until I had some major life events that had a devastating effect on my waistline. I also noticed that my starting weight was much higher than yours.
  7. The scope part is interesting...I did not know that. I thought the only real revision plicators could have was the DS. I read that in several places. Can a plicator successfully revise to a sleeve? I figured all the scar tissue would prevent that, but maybe not. Edited to add: they are just discussing the revision to sleeve on VST, so I guess it can be done.
  8. So i am working with a surgeon on getting the overstitch procedure done. I had surgery in 2006 at 292 and only lost about 50 pounds. I am now at 282 and my EGD tomorrow. Has anyone had experience with the approval process with a revision. I have Blue Coss of California insurance. I definitely have 6 months of documented weight loss attemps over the past few years 3 months was a medical weight loss place and immediately following 3 months with my doctor. Lap band to sleeve

@@shannon cruz acid reflux bad- take the band out and do the sleeve. i love, love, love my sleeve don't wanna burst your bubble but i was told that already having heartburn/acid reflux - this problem will usually continue or get worse just being honest from what i've heard someone on the board started off with the lapband - revision to sleeve - finally gastric RN y finally her heartburn is gone maybe your situation is different, if doc thinks sleeve is the way to go, great i would double check about the heartburn situation - since yours is so bad whatever your choice on which WLS - will be right for you good luck kathy
  10. Hey!! I was banded in August 2009, then had to have a port revision in January of 2010 during winter break. I'm a senior in college and it's been the most trying year ever. I too had been cheating for awhile I'm down almost 30 lbs since my August 2009 surgery but I've definitely noticed when I go home I lose more weight then when I'm at school. I know it has to do with the types of food I'm consuming, it may not be a lot but its higher in calories. I got a fill last week and the doc gave me a little too much so I've been on liquids since last wednesday. I was planning on going to get some Fluid taken out wednesday, but they are saying a snow storm and he is located about an 1 and 1/2 from me. When I was first banded it was so hard being at school, I've come to quickly realize what I can and can't eat. I can not eat anything fried at all, obviously it's not good for you, but living on campus it's pretty hard to get anything other then burgers and fried food. It's been stressful, but I know in the end it will all be worth it! How's it going for you though at school? Have you told any of your friends you were banded? It took me awhile but about 5 of my closest friends know..
  11. I haven't revised yet but I have to repeat the whole process all over again. That is standard where I live, MN. My insurance is different than yours and I would look at the policy to make sure they don't have a once a lifetime bariatric surgery clause. Although I don't have the required 3-6 month diet, my insurance doesn't require it, that might be something you have to do as well. My band only provided me a 23lb loss and I frequently would get stuck, so much that I had and still do have some anxiety(unfilled) that foods will get stuck. I used to dread eating for fear of it coming back up. Hopefully your process is a smooth one.
  12. I looked at the percentage of probable weight loss. I thought this was a great tool for that: https://www.realize.com/do-i-qualify/potential-results Talking with my doctor he said I could start out by doing the sleeve and then revise to RNY if I wanted more results. I however only plan on having 1 surgery and making it work. I kind of think of it as choosing the best most efficient tool for myself and going in knowing you're going to give it all you've got to use it and get the best possible result you can I'm also not a fan of completely removing something from my body. For me it is scarier to completely remove 80% of my stomach then reroute my intestines. ETA: I just also wanted to state that I do not take any meds consistently so that had no baring on my choice. Also it depends on how much you have to loose. While most that I have read gives RNY a slightly higher percentage of loss, if you don't need to loose as much the amount of pounds difference between the two is going to be negligible, however, if your looking to loose 2-300+ pounds the difference in potential percentage loss will be greater (ie what was a 10lb difference for someone smaller is a 30+lb difference for someone larger).
  13. I am scheduled for a sleeve revision to gastric bypass, however I never heard of a mini bypass. Can you explain what the difference is?
  14. Will I have 7 incisions one about 3 inches long Had a drain tube I had the lapband for one year And had problems with it So Jan 22,2013 had revision surgery so my new Me started that day!!! Doing well tired weak but getting better each day Still trying to get my liquids in ( harder with this Surgery) than with lapband but this revision surgery was more complicated So being 50 yrs old this April I guess that's another reason I'm slow But next week I think going to try aqua aerobics And go back to my tanning (it makes you feel better) Hope everyone is well!' God Bless

    Dr. Lopez?

With my lapband the anaesthetist screwed up and I woke up on the operating table as they were finishing up. So painful! and I keep having dreams about it with my revision surgery in 3 weeks! So did you with Lopez wake up in a normal bed a few hours later? haha x
  16. Hi all, I had the RNY (revised from gastric band) 7 years ago and had amazing success. I got to my goal weight in 5 months and kept the weight off for over 5 years. In the last 18 months, I've had some medical issues that have resulted in me regaining almost all of the weight. Now that I have resolved those issues, I am maintaining my weight, but finding it impossible to lose again like I did before. There has definitely been some stretching of my pouch, which my surgeon has confirmed. So I guess my question is, has anyone out there had the Edoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty done? I have an appointment with my surgeon next week to discuss non-surgical options and I think this will be one of them. All of the research I've done shows it's a great option for regain after bariatric surgery but I'd love to hear from someone who has had it done. If you have had it, how did you recover? Did you lose as much weight as you did with your initial surgery? Did you keep it off? What was the post op diet like? Any and all feedback and comments welcome! P.S: I'm in Melbourne, Australia

Would you do it again knowing all you know and what you have experienced? Yes , just I wish I did this back in October when my dr first suggested it. I am am a lapband to sleeve revision. I know first few weeks liquids and protien shakes but can you eat real food again? I'm only 2 weeks out and eat normal soft foods. I can't wait to get back to other normal foods. What are biggest highs and what are worse things? Worst for me is Protein shakes. I'm having such a hard time as they all seem to sweet for me. Crazy to think since I have a big sweet tooth. Also trying to get in the 1000 calories my Dr wants me to when I'm not hungry so I have to force my self to eat something at times. And the biggest high is hearing everyone at work say they can see changes already so it makes it worth it. (Down 22 lbs since surgery on 6/18). Can you drink alcohol again once recovered and havre been on this new journey for awhile? I hope so even though I'm not a big drinker but do enjoy one here and there especially holiday time.
  18. Here is what I kept from another poster about this subject. Makes me happy I choose the sleeve, although I did consider other options. Went in for a band but doc suggested VSG. What? Never heard of that. Did my research and as my title states...love my sleeve, no regrets. "I could have easily had RNY, but I fought to have VSG as my revision from the band. Some factors I considered in deciding on VSG. The pouch that RNY offers is similar to the pouch with the band. Least to say, a pouch sucks, I love having a normal tummy, just less capacity and still fully functioning. 1) No blind stomach left behind that can be difficult to scope yet can still get ulcers and cancer. 2) RNY - 2 years max on calorie/carb/sugar malabsorption, but a lifetime of vitamin/nutrient malabsorption. This process is called adaptation, and it happens with intestinal bypass surgeries. 3) I had a pouch with the band, and it sucked. I'm pretty fond of my pyloric valve and the sleeve let me keep it. I love having a normal functioning stomach, just smaller in capacity. 4) Regain stats and #of RNY patients seeking revision truly scared the poop out of me 5) I have too many friends in real life that struggle with Vitamin deficiencies post-RNY, and most of them either never got to goal, or have gained back a significant amount of their weight. 6) The long term complications with RNY were too numerous for my comfort level. Pouch or stoma dilation, strictures, vitamin/nutrient deficiencies, ulcers, 7) I researched gastrectomies that had been performed for stomach cancer and ulcer patients, and found comfort in the long term results and minimal complications of patients that had lost most or all of their stomachs had dealt with over several years. 8) I was a volume eater, and knew a restrictive only procedure would work for me. That was my thought process when I got the band, and I thought I could beat the odds on complications. Sadly, the band only lasted 8 months before I had to revise. 9) I did not want to have food or medication restrictions. I chose WLS to have a "normal" life, and I think it's normal to eat a couple of Cookies. With RNY, I wasn't willing to go through the possibility of dumping if I wanted to have a couple of cookies, or a slice of cake on occasion. The big scare for me is medication restrictions for life. NSAIDS and steroids are a NO GO for life with a RNY pouch. I realize that I may never be diagnosed with a condition or disease that requires steroid use, but it is possible. I want the best long term results with the least amount of complications. Malabsorption is not anything to play with in my mind, and I was not willing to take that risk. I lost all my weight in my ticker with the exception of 7lbs with the sleeve, and I did it in 10.5 months. The 115lbs fell off the first 6.5 months, and then the rest I lost as I was getting into maintenance over another 4 months.. It's been a fabulous journey, and I'm easily maintaining with zero issues for nearly a year at this point. I want to add that every WLS regardless of your choice will require discipline. Only a percentage of RNY patients dump on sugar/fat, pouches and stomas stretch, then you have the medication restrictions. I'm not trying to convince you, but these were my concerns when I knew I had to revise from the band. Again, this is not me, but I couldn't have said it better. Again, I love my sleeve and have no regrets. Best wishes to you in what ever you decide is right for you!
  19. Dr Ariel Ortiz at Obesity Control Center is the BEST. He did my LapBand in 2006. He is a little higher priced than other Tijuana Drs but 1st class all the way. If you do research your will find him everywhere. The Doctors show, Oprah, Dateline, there was a write up in Newsweek naming him one of the top bariatric surgeons in the US. For my revision to sleeve in May 2016 I used Dr Fernando Garcia. Another first class experience but cost wise he was in my budget. I did a lot of research before using him too. I had zero complications and felt I was VERY well taken care of. His surgery center is new and state of the art. PM me if you need any other questions answered.
  20. Hi October surgery buds, I'm scheduled for Oct 16. I'm having revision surgery from lapband to mini-gastric bypass. Looking forward to the journey with you all. *waves hello from Ireland* Sent from my SM-G930F using BariatricPal mobile app

    Butt flap - Anyone have?

YES! I have it and I'm wondering how much worse it will get after my revision. I honestly haven't been doing anything to try to fill it out as of yet, so hopefully someone will have some great tips on exercises. I looked into beach body's Brazilian butt, but never ended up doing it. Youtube probably has some good workouts too.

Stall - revision sleeve to bypass

How much have you lost since your revision? Sometimes during stalls, we don't lose pounds, but we are losing inches. I think it also depends on how much weight you have to lose. The less you have to lose, the slower weight loss can be. And stalls can happen all along the weight loss journey. I think they're a normal part of the process. It's our bodies/metabolisms adapting to the changes our bodies are going through. I'm only 6 weeks post op Band to Bypass revision. But I seem to be a slower loser than those with virgin bypasses. My restriction is there, depending on what I eat. Of course I feel it more with denser proteins. Compared to my Band, the Bypass seems to feel completely natural, unlike my Band. When I was able to start exercising, and increased my calories a bit, I noticed the scale started moving better. I hope to be released tomorrow to be able to lift weights again, I know that will also help me more. Best Wishes!

Am I Selling My Sleeve Short?

I started with an initial goal which I revised after losing 100#. I currently am under my revised goal... undecided if This is truely my new goal.
  25. As a band to bypass revision I think you are definitely making the right choice. I could tell you so much about the years of misery with my band and damage done by it. Feel free to message me if you want details.
