About to do this thing...
The Greater Fool replied to KevinS62's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Congratulations on all the hoop jumping and your upcoming surgery. Some advice you didn't ask for: The first weeks after surgery can be a pain, literally and figurately. Be prepared mentally, this too shall pass. You may have absolutely no issues, but be prepared for the worst. Follow your plan. I hope it is a rational plan and not a crash diet, but which ever it's the plan you signed up for, so follow through. Get off the scale. You don't need it messing with your mind. You know if you are following your plan. Just keep doing that. The scale will lie to you. Don't compare your loss to others. You will be losing weight faster than you ever have, yet it will feel slow. Celebrate your successes and forgive your failures. Good luck, Tek -
Almost 9 years out...
The Greater Fool replied to raiderjules's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Congratulations on your success. Route 44 Slushie Lime Ade... a special treat we do about once a month, along which Church's chicken. :sigh: My surgeon approached the 30 minute thing as more of a suggestion than hard and fast rule. I drink when I'm thirsty, and I sip a bit during meals. It's not the end of the world to do your own thing if you are doing well. Anemia does seem to be a Gastric Bypass thing, at least it was for me a couple times over the years. Passing out is fun. I put a hole in the wall with my head once. Iron usually does the trick. I take slow-FE just once a week which seems to do the trick. Good luck, Tek -
Worried about getting surgery
SleeverSk replied to Darkangel505's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You are over thinking it as we all did, I had gerd before surgery I was on 40mg nexium as well as gaviscon liquid and tablets just to keep on top of it. I now take 20mg nexium and that's it and I am not sure I even need that but haven't been game to come off it yet. My surgeon said weightloss would help my gerd which it did. I have noticed the people who get gerd and revise to bypass also had a substantial weight gain as well. I have had zero issues with keeping food and drink down, had a few little omg I shouldn't have eaten/ drunk that so quick but after a few minutes it's all good and you don't do it again lol but honestly I a a week away from 12 months and I have zero problems. At the moment I am recovering from covid and I am suffering from lack of desire to eat or drink and have a bit of nausea but that's from covid not surgery. -
Unfortunately shortly after this post, they had to push my surgery back a week. What would have been last Wednesday is now coming up this Thursday, the 14th. Just finishing day 12 of the 2 week pre op diet. Dying. lol

Surgery postponed
Melissalopez79 replied to gina923's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wasn't able to follow the two week diet and ate up to the last day. I was told by a friend who also had this done to drink two bottles of Magnesium 48 to 24 hours before your surgery. I did just that to but the down side your bm turns into water. -
The ENTIRE bagel???? Like, SERIOUSLY?!
Arabesque replied to idk4w's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So you actually do have your restriction it’s just that it occurs with a certain behaviour. The power of the restriction does fade over time. We learn behaviours to avoid it & your body learns how to process what you eat more effectively like how we can eat more as we progress. I still have my restriction at three years out but I only feel it if I’m not careful say if I eat too quickly or drink too much & then I know about it. -
4 day Post opt. July 7th. My original date was supposed to be June 22 but my father pasted away on the 18th of June and I had to post pone my surgery for an additional two weeks. I ate up to the last day and stopped just to make sure I had room for those two drinks I had to do on top of drinking two bottles of Magnesium so I cam flush out my system right away. I am allergic to anesthesia so when they gave it to me they also gave me a Steroid. My surgery was at 8am and I was up by 11:30am. Tons of heart burn from steroid but the hospital took care of that right away. They feed me pain killer through my IV which made me have the best sleep ever. Fast forward four days now and I have alreadyost 16lbs, have a lot more energy and sticking to my diet plan. I am so ready for food but I know that will have to wait until my check up next week. Only thing that sucks is wearing long dresses. I am not a dress girl, I like my jeans but my Stitches have to heal. I am happy that I decided to do this.

Worried about getting surgery
armartin98 replied to Darkangel505's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had the sleeve done 12/2021. I was scare about GERD as well. My doctor said I had a small hernia and I've had GERD for over 30 years. However, it seems that since my surgery I don't have it as bad. I take Nexium once or twice a week and that seems to help me. I also take a good probiotic. Hope this helps a little. Good luck. -
Hi all, new here! My surgery was on July 5th! To those who still are waiting, in my opinion, the gas once I woke up in recovery was the worst, but will subside over the first two days. A week out now and I’m feeling pretty good, with a lot of energy! I hope the same for all of you!

Hi there! I got my VSG surgery last week on July 7th. After two days of gas pain (woof I did NOT love that,) I have been having, honestly, a pretty easy go. The biggest complaint I have is my incisions are itchy haha! However, I have been having a LOT of anxiety over aiming for perfection: eating exactly what’s on my meal plan, exactly the right amount, and doing everything exactly right. Today, it stressed me out, which caused me to have a mini caving moment of having half of a gluten free cracker (chewed very slowly). Now, I don’t think that’s a huge deal, or will stretch my stomach and stitches open, but I am wondering do others struggle/struggled with following the rules to a T? And if you fail at doing so, what do you do. I think I’m freaking mainly because I’m internalizing my weight gain as not following rules, and now to get the results I HAVE to. thanks

In three days, July 14, 2022, I am scheduled to get my sleeve. My insurance company had me jumping through hoops for over three months to get to this point and I am excited to get this thing started. I've lost weight before by restricting calories and carbs, but I would eventually lose motivation and the weight would come back. Twelve years ago I dieted and went from 250 to 198, before I gained it all back. Nine years ago I went from 250 to 184, and I gained all of it back, plus a bunch more. In 2020 I was at my highest weight, But two years of working from home, I had gained another 25 lbs. Wearing gyms shorts, t-shirts and flip flops has been great, but there's no motivation like having to put on some khakis that don't fit and a tight polo shirt to drive into the office. My pants won't stay up and it looks like I am carrying a sack of groceries under my shirt. Embarrassing. That was the end of March and that was when I decided to talk to a surgeon.

St Petersburg /Tampa and Area plastic surgeon
sillykitty replied to susieq321's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
My surgeon is based in Medellin. He is board certified in Colombia, did a fellowship in the US, and active in various plastic surgery boards and committees as well as teaching. But his cost was a fraction of what your quote is. I honestly feel like $20-25K is egregiously overpriced and total gouging because you are American. As far as aftercare, I stayed in a very nice 2 bedroom, 2 bath Airbnb for $40/nt and could have hired a nurse for $40 per 8 hr. So the two weeks stay with nursing is not worth more than $2K. I have followed and researched Colombian surgeons for a few years now, so feel free to pm me if you want to discuss further -

Silly kitty, If you don’t mind me asking, where did you go in Columbia? One of the things I liked about this surgeon is he is board certified in the US and is a teaching surgeon and maintains US credentials as well as Columbia credentials. it also included onsite nursing care hotel stay for two weeks and some other items. I am just starting my search for plastic surgeons. I knew all of them in Toronto and Philly when I was there. so it was easy now it is a whole new ball game -
I may be the only guy in this thread. My surgery date is July 14, so only three days from now.

Losing more weight NOT exercising???
Splenda replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I think there are two parts to it. 1. As someone mentioned, exercise tends to increase water retention as muscles hoard it to help with inflammation. 2. Part of weight loss stalls is that your body adjusts to your routine. When you stop exercising for a few days, you change the routine, forcing your body to re-evaluate. I've experienced the same phenomenon with my exercise and have decided that I will live with the slowed down weight loss to be in better overall health (my blood pressure and resting heart rate numbers are great). -
Rock your adventure lifestyle! Way to go and it is all you. My WLS 7 years ago gave me the ability to walk a healthier life. Finished over a hundred kilometer hike ov in 6 days in Italy last week even with a heat wave. Next my be the Swiss alps in 23. Endless smaller adventures in between. Enjoy the world and again congrats!

I'm doing well. Almost 3 weeks post op. Had my 2 week appointment on Thursday and my doc was impressed how much I'd lost since my final preop appointment (I was 402. I'm now 357). I'm finally eating soft and flaky foods. Today I had about 1 oz of boneless skinless airfried chicken thigh and .5 oz of refried beans. It was delicious. Stall out and depressed

Yay. Glad the stall broke. And great idea to stay off the scale. It really does just mess with your head. -
Stall out and depressed
fourmonthspreop replied to fourmonthspreop's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Just wanted to update here, I broke my stall. Stepped on the scale today since writing the first post here. Am at 243 now. I feel okay about it. I am going to stay off the scale until next month because mentally, I am having a hard time facing the numbers and feeling okay with my progress and the way my body looks. There's a lot of self-hatred I need to undo and the scale is not helping me with that. Thanks for all your kind wishes and praise. I know we're all on different stages of this journey and it's never easy. I truly get so much from posting on this form and it's definitely changed my surgery journey for the better. Hope everyone is well xx
