My port is completely flipped! I went in for my first fill on 6/7/11 and my doctor could not do the fill so he sent me to do my fill under flouro, and thats when it was discovered that my port had flipped! I was so upset. He said that he would do the port revision and that it was a 15 minute procedure, so I'm hoping it will be quick and painless. Im scheduled for 7/7/11

Getting gastric sleeve tomorrow
Alex Brecher replied to smanzi40's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had Lap-Band 20 years ago. I then had the removal of my Lap-Band and revision to Gastric Bypass in March 2018 and Gastric Bypass reversal due to a lower bowel blockage in June 2019. I regret getting the Lap-Band and using a surgeon for my Bypass that wasn't the greatest (to be kind.) Thankfully, I've kept almost all my extra weight off, and my health is great. -
Who is your doctor? What hospital are/have you used?
JustFluffy posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I have to say I have been very impressed with Baptist Hospital in Penscola on their pre-op care and thoroughness. I was originally banded at Palmyra Hopsital in Albany GA. Preop was showing up for the surgery and bathing with dial soap. I didn't meet or talk with anyone - just showed up. I was so excited about the surgery at the time it didn't seem odd to me. Monday I went to Baptist to meet with pretty much my surgery team and doctor (John David Nye). Not only did I make all my appointments on or before time - they didn't rush me or make me feel like a number. Here was my pre-op day: 10:00 a.m. - Radiology. They did my ultra-sound on my liver, stomach, abdominal area - I got there early (about 9:30) and I was done by 10:00 12:30 p.m. - Registration, Anesthesia, Bloodwork, Radiology and EKG. I ended up early for my registration appointment (after getting to finally eat - nothing to eat after midnight). They got me registered in 10 minutes and sent me talk to the Anesthesiologist. I ended up talking to a nurse - who measured my legs for my support hose and explained in detail what would be happening the day of surgery and gave me Aplicare, Ahtiseptic Solution to bath with the night before and day of surgery. From there they drew my blood for bloodwork and performed the EKG. Afterward the girl that did my bloodwork and EKG took me down to radiology. I waited about 20 minutes (due to a gentleman before me that had a lot of xrays to do). I put on a lovely hospital gown and robe (which was too small) and they did my chest x-rays. by 1:30 I was done. 2:30 p.m. - Met with my doctor. I ended up heading to him early as everything went smoothly. We discussed the surgery, he marked the incisions he would be making and checked my port. His nurse came in (which is also his wife) and we discussed the surgery as well. He told me all in all with the removal and revision he should be done in less than an hour. We discussed my liquid diet and Vitamin as well as after care and what I would be doing in the weeks post-surgery. What to expect as well as my follow-up appointments. 3:30 p.m. - me and another RNY patient met with the nutritionist (along with our spouces). I was expecting to meet with just the nutritionist, but I also spoke to the Bariatric Coordinator (which also had RNY), she went over the surgery again and then we met with the nutritioninst. We were done at 5:00. My surgery will be at 7:30 a.m. on August 1st. I have to be there two hours in advance. I have a 48 hour liquid diet my doctor has place me on prior to surgery. I'm also taking potassium supplements (my bloodwork came back showing I had a deficiency). What was your experience? Any positives or Negatives? I know all doctors and hospitals are different - just wondering if anyone had a different experience than I. I think the more prepared we are, the better off we are... -
Trying to decide bypass vs sleeve
Nicki24 replied to Nicki24's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have acid reflux sometimes like maybe once a month. But also could it be that there's less of a revision rating bc there's nothing really to revise to? Except the duo switch but I hear that has alot of complications and you basically have horrible diarrhea for the rest of your life so not many ppl want to revise to that Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App -
Did your surgeon take out the band first and then wait?
Pegsinthewoods replied to Glendaaus's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My band was placed in Aug 2008 and eroded and removed in April 2011. Since I was so sick, the surgeon opted to do the revision in two seperate surguries. -
Do you feel the band inside? The port?
AlienBandit replied to jazzyjen's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
If you are afraid of feeling your port you can have a small revision surgery and have it moved. When I got close to my goal I had a surgery and my doc moved my port under my muscle. Before I could feel it and see it stick out of my stomach, however now when I go for a fill we must use the ultrasound machine to double check where it is because my doc pokes because it is hard to find. Also there are different size ports so you can ask your doctor before surgery to put in a low profile port. -
To sleeve or not to sleeve that is the question?
smkeller replied to beboo's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Well, skinny is definitely worth it. I too was originally going to get the lap-band, but changed after much research to the sleeve. The lap-band surgery itself is much simpler and safer than the sleeve surgery, although both seem to be very safe. For those people that tolerate the band from the beginning, their experience of weight loss for the first year and a half is usually excellent; for those that don't, it is a nightmare. The problems with the band seem to come after the first 18 months and can and do get very serious. Many people revise to the sleeve after damaging their stomach and esophagus. On the other hand, a botched sleeve surgery is a trip to hell. It is more important, I think, to have a really good sleeve surgeon than it is to have a really good lap-band surgeon, because many problems can be fixed with the band in the early days. With the sleeve it needs to be right from the git-go. I do not recommend going to a 'clinic' for this surgery. To me it is just an unacceptable risk. Go to a hospital. Good luck. -
Trying to decide bypass vs sleeve
IncredibleShrinkingMan replied to Nicki24's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As a sleever (9 months out), I give the procedure my highest recommendation. I have lost 85% of what I want to lose, and I am confident the rest will come off. The sleeve is not just safer, but it does not force you to give up as many things forever. The main difference is carbs/sweets. While you will not want to have too much of these foods at any point in the future, the consequences of having some will not be as drastic. That said, an option for you would be to go have the sleeve, see what it does for you, and then if you are not satisfied with the progress after a year or two, you can go back and have a revision. It depends what your weaknesses are...mine weren't sweets, so the consensus was that sleeve would produce the same benefits as bypass. Your analysis may be very different. Congratulations on getting started! -
Newbie - Pre-Op - Moving from SIPS to DS

Thanks so much for the reply to my inquiry....I've been busy taking all those pre-approval tests the last couple of weeks and really kind of coming off the sites for a few days to allow myself time to sort through all the information I've gathered and of course keep it in prayer so that I make the BEST decision for myself in regards to IF I want to do the revision and IF so, what procedure am I comfortable with as well as the one I will be committed to afterwards in regards to my maintenance to ensure a healthy outcome! I will definitely check out the website mentioned and http://www.dssurgery.com/procedures/duodenal-switch.php?subnav=2 This is another avenue of knowledge thanks so much for sharing... Please keep me posted as to your journey... and if you don't mind please add me as a friend! -

New to this site and disappointed
Scorpio Girl replied to Dana newman's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Look up Molina Band. It was before the adjustable gastric band, was mesh and has caused a lot of problems. I found Dana on Facebook and she's for real, was considering revising to a new band, which is why she was here. Me thinks the "troll antennae" are on hyper-vigilant setting...geesh! -
I don't think anyone should be hateful. If you have had success with the band then that is awesome however complications are real and they happen to real people even if they were compliant. I knew the complications going in and decided to do it any way. I had mine in almost 6 years ago. About 5 months in I had a dilation that slipped my band and I have had horrible pain ever since. I was fully nailed 3 years ago and that is when I began my battle to get the insurance to approve taking it out. They have denied me two times which is a different topic altogether even though the tests proved there was damage. I am finally approved and scheduled to get it out on 06/25 and even though there could be complications I have chosen to revise to the sleeve. Let me say this though: I DO NOT regret getting the band. I know that if I had not intervened and had the band put in that I would be over 400 lbs by now. The band has forced me to change the way I see and feel about food. That alone is priceless. But I believe everyone's story should be heard whether the band was successful for you or you had complications and people should be supportive to people with both success and complications. Good luck to all

So, I feel pretty unique here - correct me if anyone else has the same issues... I've had my band now for about seven years, I think. I am at a decent weight (though I am 20 pounds heavier after having my son, than at my thinnest), but I have some band problems: 1. I am able to eat a lot of food, though I'm pretty restricted. Had a flouro last year, suspecting maybe pouch dilation, but everything looked good. No dilation. Why can I eat more than I used to be able to eat when I was really actively losing??? 2. If I am stuck I am able to "push" food down by applying pressure to my band area with my hand. Yes, it's very odd. I try not to do it, but sometimes when I'm stuck or I WANT to eat more food, I'll push it down. 3. I don't really get that full feeling any more. Any other long-time bandsters have these same issues? Do you think a revision might help? The docs seem quite clueless - maybe because the band hasn't been around all that long. I would love to lose those 20 pounds I've been hanging on to for awhile, but it feels so much harder this time around!

10 year roller coaster. Finally scheduled for revision!
Threetimesacharm replied to Kristina J.'s topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Well thank you for sharing your story and I have great news! I too had a revision on September 10, 2012, with Dr Fernando Garcia and am now .6 pounds away from my goal weight. I lost 60 pounds in the first 4 months and now have lost 77.2 pounds. You will not reget having this surgery and Dr Garcia is an amazingly skilled surgeon. I had my band for 5 years and from what I understand he had no issues with my surgery. I now have a $16,000.00 souvenier lapband. You are making the best decision. All the best. -
Weight Gain After Sleeve (Seeking Advice Not Judgment)
Healthy_life2 replied to GetBack_095's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sorry to the original poster I'm off topic. Fluff , You know I love you. your edit sounds less aggressive😉 The last thing the OP was asking for or needs is judgment. They already know their reasons for the weight gain. No need for anyone to restate what they should have been doing, where they went wrong and beat them down further. The depression, shame and guilt from a gain is enough. I agree, Therapy and talking with their surgeon about options including revision is a great place to start. Lifelong change means they can get the help and move forward. In a perfect world all of us would stay on track. We will continue to see people with weight gain. I want them to feel supported and see them take this on and get the help they need. -

I'm just behind you - revision coming March 16. How have you been recovering? -
Revising a band isn't rare. Stanford (ca) recommend it to me because of my band issues. They made sure to walk my insurance through because my BMI was under 30. It is rare to place bands these days, at least at a hospital like Stanford which has experts in the field who are teaching doctors. My doctor did 3 revisions after mine on 12/15. But they also have a strong belief of taking the band out and allowing 2 months of healing prior to the next surgery.

Woohoo!!! Deflating my band worked. I actually received 4 cc's back in today. The deflation got my band to adjust to the position that it should be in and so no surgical revision is needed. Back on liquids and mushies for a bit, but I do not mind.

Best wishes to you without your band. Did you already have a revision to something else? I think that the old small band has been replaced for alot of people, me included. I got band #2 almost 3 years after band #1 (small band). Take care. Sue

Want Sleeve but scared of no weight loss
jess9395 replied to starvinardis's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Boards like this aren't a representation of the sleeve population at large. You say you see "many" getting revised to bypass. Successful sleeve patients aren't posting about not needing one. It's only those who need the revision who post. Most successful sleeve patients are off living their lives. I wouldn't go by that. I would look to see actual statistics about revision rates. Not saying RNY isn't a great operation, it absolutely is. But many people have success with the sleeve as well. -
Had Surgery Yesterday - Can Drink and Swallow Normally?!
ge0rgette2 replied to cowgirlcullen's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Had revision on 5/27 and couldn’t get liquids down. I had the same issues with the sleeve though even years out. Water bothered me all the time. Had to do sips all the time. Other liquids not so much. I just had lapro again yesterday as some of the scar tissue was giving me an issue. Was only 2 weeks. I hope this was just a fluke. -
Lapband To Sleeve Revision - Coming Up Soon!
something2think posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi all, I am scheduled to have my lap-band removed in one week (2/21) and then be sleeved one week later on 2/28. I have had several problems with my lap-band including 2 port revisions and now again I have another leak and need a port revision and haven't lost any weight in 2 years. I was initially very successful with the band and lost about 100 lbs. Slowly I have re-gained the weight and have put on about 50. I hope the sleeve will give me restriction again and get me to my goal weight and to be where i deserve- to feel like a normal perosn! http:\\thinspiration4me.blogspot.com -
How did you do it?
kekerene replied to HDubSleevery's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Because I was a band to sleeve revision I had to go 15 days on each phase. Talk about I was about to puke at the thought of broth at day 14, lol. It was so so hard but I stuck to it. I did not want to risk messing up anything and having to take another trip back to Mexico. I hate flying so just flying there to have the surgery was enough for me. It gets better, stay strong -
I have to go in again to have a port revision, not because of the port, but because there is a kink in my tubing. Dr. can get Fluid in, but cannot get anything out. He gave me a slight fill on friday when he did it under flouro to see where the kink was. It made a huge difference in the amount of restriction I feel. I can't swallow my Vitamins without getting stuck, but I am able to get liquids and mushies down. I'm glad to hear that the recovery is quick and that I will be able to do this with only conscious sedation and not have to go completely out. Good luck to everyone else with this problem. My Dr. seems to think this is a manufacturers glitch as I am the 3rd person to have this problem in his practice, and he was able to show me on the model where the problem is occuring. Ari
