Hi! Haven’t made any personal posts in some time… I’m one week shy of my bandiversary, 5/19/11. I went from 349 pounds down to 202.8 (-146.2). I arrived at my lowest in December and haven’t lost anymore. I have maintained or stayed between the same 5 pounds since that time. My ultimate goal is to get to 165 and maintain and I know I’ll get there… Here’s my dilemma…I’ve been bingeing on slider foods for the past few weeks and I put on 10 pounds!!! It’s always been really easy for me to gain or lose weight…. Since losing weight and for the most part, ceased from abusing food (until recently) I’ve had to deal with my problems like a normal person. If I don’t drown my issues with food then I have to feel/deal with them and they hurt L…I guess it’s new for me because I never dealt with these issues in the past, I just kept eating them away. Being super obese made me invisible from the opposite sex and now that I’m visible – I’ve been putting myself out there…but with that comes a lot of self esteem issues…I think a lot of bad thoughts about myself if a guy doesn’t reciprocate feelings or attraction to me…this sucks but I’m trying to deal with it… In the meantime I’m over here stuffing my face and getting depressed… Please, if anyone understands and can over any words of encouragement I really need something to click for me… Thanks…. Rebecca (feeling lost and alone)

Surgery tomorrow! Terrified!
falconfan replied to GRE110's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Wow!! Mashed potatoes! I have been dreaming of food all night. Isn't that crazy? My MD here wants 7-10 days post op of clear liquids. I am sick of Gatorade and Powerade. Chicken broth seems so salty. True hunger has set in. Next week I can go to cream based soups and the week after that I can have mushy food. So it will be about a month before I can have fork and knife food. As far as weight, I gained some initially (maybe fluid retention?) but now I am back down to where I was prior to surgery. Wishing you continued good luck. Let me know how it goes with the food intake this week! -
I was on soft food 10 days after my revision but all my Dr. has me shooting for is 94g of Protein daily. I found some great ideas on a website called The World According to Eggface - give it a google if you are looking for ideas

I am now 10 day post sleeve. I would kill for some solid food as well!!! I am already planning my first solid meal, which judging from the posts on here will be about 5 mouthfuls of whatever I choose. Stay strong, we all had this done for a very good reason. Good luck with your journey.

Surgery Tomorrow! Any Words of Wisdom?
AvaFern replied to debbie813's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Walking into the OR is empowering because it is you clearly taking the situation by the horns and handling business. I did not know they generally knock you out on valium or some form of sedative before they wheel you into the OR for this surgery or my first plastics procedure, but my last two plastics surgeries I insisted on being fully non-drugged when they put me to sleep. Generally they don't make you walk because they have to have the bed with you and roll your IV, EKG leads, and monitor with you and it's more hassle than it's worth, but I say enjoy the experience. You know how you walked down the aisle at your wedding? Ready for a whole new life? Look at this situation exactly like this. Get your head up, march your butt into that OR, and own it. Also, the drugs they give you to knock you out are about 10 seconds of the best high ever. This way you get to enjoy that too. -
It took me about 10 months to finally get a surgery date. Unfortunately I work for a hospital and with their insurance you are forced to stay within their facilities, forcing me to way long periods of time for some appointments. Requirement wise I had to fulfill the following: -weight loss of 5% of body weight -night oxygen saturation study -2 support groups -2 dietary appointments -psych evaluation -multiple appointments with a bariatric nurse practitioner -multiple appointments with my surgeon -pre operative class -chest X-ray -ekg -blood work I think that covers it all! Don't get discouraged by everything you have to do before surgery, it is all for a good purpose and helps fully prepare you. Best of luck!

Getting off cpap..?
Paul Hufnagl replied to jasmineinmymind's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
i was diagnosed with seveare sleep apnea (bipap level 22/17) since i have lost 70 pounds since diagnosed in january. i have set my bipap to auto and then read the results on sleepyhead.com (you can watch a youtube video on the lankeyleft channel to figure it out.) the read out tells me if i had any periods of apnea. i think i'm at a mild level of 10 now. -
Getting off cpap..?
momof3_angels replied to jasmineinmymind's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
It is definitely possible that you no longer need CPAP. It is also possible you DO need it and just need your pressure level adjusted. I was diagnosed and started CPAP in Feb/March. Mine was listed as mild to severe (mild was when I wasn't really sleeping/ severe was in the little bit of time I actually slept). I am starting to do really well on CPAP and sleeping much better. I also am able to stay awake later than I was able to before, so I know it is working. That said... I have surgery scheduled in 10-11 days. I am REALLY hoping that losing weight will mean I can go off CPAP. But, the only way any of us can know for sure whether or not we can remove CPAP is by repeating a sleep study (some do a version of it at home). Just know, weight loss is much more possible/successful if we are compliant with CPAP. -
I was banded 10/11/12 and have the same chest tightness, like I need to burp but can't. I also still have terrible shoulder pain, but my abdomen isn't bothering me at all. I'll feel great when my shoulder pain goes away....my husband offered to stomp my toe so I'd forget about my shoulder...lol...I declined.

If I'm not trying to build muscle, why should I care about protein?
sweetie716 replied to chunkyloverlovesyou's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Making good food choices is a key part of surgery, and that includes getting your Protein in. Definitely follow your doctor's plan because they've put it together based on the specific needs of people who have gone before us. Here's a really good article that addresses a few of these things, in particular #3, 9, and 10. It is not an easy thing to make the change, but for the best chance at long term success it's so worth it. http://www.bariatriceating.com/2015/03/02/top-10-bariatric-post-op-mistakes/ -
Getting restless
NW Island Girl commented on NW Island Girl's blog entry in NW Island Girl's Journal
20 October 2006 Passed the 10-week pre-surgery mark this week and am getting restless. I wish I didnt' have to wait so long to get the band. I want to get going!! But as a self-pay, the only way to do it is to go to Mexico, and the only way to get it done in Mexico requires being away mid-week, and I just can't skip any mid-week rehearsals for Singers or church choir until after Christmas. So I'm waiting. The growing number (at least five, maybe more) of Island Bandits (or soon-to-be) are working toward organizing a support group. Booklady has initiated a get together on Sun. afternoon, Nov. 12. It will be good to spend an hour with people going through or having had the same experience. I need that for encouragement while it WAIT. I am trying to incorporate various Bandit routines now, to make the transition smoother, such as drinking small amounts of water every 15 minutes. I bought a little timer last weekend to help me, and about every other day I manage to remember to start it, and remember to keep restarting it for about half a day. I still have almost 10 weeks to get this simple lifestyle thing down, and as Booklady pointed out, nothing bad happens if you don't stick to the schedule rugorously. She looks wonderful. Has been banded since late July with one fill, and has lost 40 pounds. If I emulate her success, I can be under 200 pounds by the time of the Singers' spring concert. That will mean a lot to me. There are lots of clothes in my closet that I'm looking forward to wearing again that won't fit until I get donw under 200 pounds. -
Hehe! Try being infertile and going through all the tests, exams, etc! Sometimes I felt like telling everyone to form a line!!! LOL!!! Seriously had to go back and look again b/c I just didn't pay attention the first time! Sooo funny!! I have my surgeon's appt., ekg and chest x-ray on Friday. Kinda figured the x-ray was just a general check of everything. Does everyone have to have an x-ray? I have asthma too and wonder if maybe that's the reason for it. It'll be interesting to see what pops up. I had bronchitis a few weeks ago and can still feel a slight heaviness in my chest so I'm hoping they don't freak out about it. I'll have to let them know about it so if they see something, then they aren't thinking I am coming down with it. It seems so far away but yet it's getting so close now! Friday's appt then start the 10 day pre-op liquids on the 15th, then surgery the 25th!

Hi everyone I was banded on 11/10 and am doing well! I had a herina repair with my band and I think that the herina was harder to deal with then the band. Well my question is I am feeling back to my old self and I was cleaning and bent over and had a severe pain right where the port is, I feel ok now but the area still seems sore. Has anyone else had this happen to them and is this always going to happen thanks so much for your time Angela

You will only be able to "slam" the capacity of your stomach. But the good news is that Water really flows through your stomach very quickly. For example, right now I am 10 weeks post op & have a stomach capacity of about 4-5oz. Therefore I can quickly drink 4 oz of water, wait a few seconds and do another 4oz. & repeat. I can drink a .5L(16.9oz) bottle of water in under a minute, not that I make a habit of this. At 1year post-op my stomach capacity will be 10oz which will allow me to drink 1/2 of the same bottle, breath for a couple seconds then finish it.

Really starting to regret having the surgery
twinmomC replied to kayluc16's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I regretted surgery for about 4 months, I had a stricture that's cause me vomiting, pain, etc etc. I'm not 7 months and super happy! Just hung in there, give little more time. I know it's hard but that's all you can do now. Call your doctor if you worry something it's wrong. It's not an easy journey but it's worth it! I am just now 1 month and 5 days out. I've dealt with constipation (not really, still have it) and at close to one month started getting food stuck, salivating like mad and vomiting. After about a week of this nonsense, I got re- admittied (three hours from home) for IV fluids and astimosis dilation. I had a severe 3mm stricture that was dilated to 10mm on 10-15. He said there is a possibility that it will have to be repeated and I believe him. Not something to mess around with. I was sent home on Friday and today, Monday I felt that same tight, stuck pain right after trying to eat. Thinking it might be time for stretch out #2. I'd say discomfort and vomiting on the same food you were able to tolerate a week or two prior is cause for concern. Also.. when or if liquid causes pain and also shoot back out- GO TO THE DOCTOR. Now I know.. Hope this helps someone else. -
My clothes still fit.. Feeling discouraged
zizi_tops replied to Tracyann1983's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
After I had my son, I had gained 100 lbs. I started yoyo dieting and would lose 20 lbs but still be in the same size. After excessive gains and losses I noticed that plus sized clothing isn't accurate. I could gain 20 lbs and still fit into all my clothes and then I weigh myself and see a 20 on increase! Like whoa!! On the flip side, when I was a size 6 which seems like sooo long ago if I'd gain a 5 lbs (during that time of month) I'd need a size up cuz then the 6 was too snug. Each size allows room for 5-10 lbs in "regular" sizes. But you can gain 20 lbs and easily still fit in your plus size clothes. <---I blame this for not catching myself before hitting my all time highest weight. I had a Board celebration to attend last night (we just completed a $1.2 million fundraiser to renovate the stage in the theater I am Board president of) and was going through my closet in some frustration yesterday morning. They've seen this, they've seen that, they've seen that one a hundred times...Then, at the very back of the closet, was a black sheath with a floral jacket that I hadn't worn in over 10 years! I didn't know I even still had the thing! It was my favorite dress for a long time, and I used to wear it when I was this weight before, so....maybe.... I tried on the jacket, and voila! It fit! I was so excited all day, I could hardly wait to get dressed up for the fete! I have to attend 2 or 3 very dressy events each year for this theater, and I have never felt "pretty" even though I'm dressed to the nines. Last night, I felt pretty and the compliments were just rolling in! This morning I feel like I could go shopping...and I HATE shopping!

I took my wife out today for dinner for first time in 4 weeks( we used to go out 2-3 times a weeK) since I was banded on October 2nd. She had pasta & salad and I had soup. total bill was $19 and change...that was the first time in my life I ever did a dinner for two under $20. No two appetizers xtra bread two desserts no 4 or 5 drinks..normally it would be about $60 or so. I had a bowl of soup and the waiter brought me another one(its all you can eat soup) I made it thru about half way on 2nd bowl then I stopped= tank full. I am looking foward to the future when we(I) can OCCASIONALLY go for dinner and eat like "normal" people. was a big step and I wasn't sure I could be around all that food and not try it......I went in with the mindset of what I wanted, and wife told me not to even look at the menu...it worked I was perfectly sastified with the soup and it filled me up....

looking for lapband buddies :)
lquinonez replied to ~*~*~Panda~*~*~'s topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hey, good luck on your journey. I am getting my lap band surgery tomorrow and am a little nervous and very hungry. I am also looking for lap band buddies. My daughter had the surgery last year and has lost 70 pounds and I'm hoping I have the same success. She has had a few problems with overfills and then having to get Fluid let out but one step at a time. I don't plan on getting any fills for quite a while. Im glad you are doing it for your health. Im almost 50 and my body is killing me. Back pains, knee pains, shortness of breath, I want to live longer so I'm excited. This last 10 days of a liquid diet was kind of hard but I did cheat twice. Opps. Well have fun in vegas and drink a beer or two for me. Keep in touch. Ms. Serenity.:smile2: -
Yes, please go get liquid Tylenol and or pain pills. I know for a fact you can liquid pain pills I take it on a regular basis for chronic back aches for a non band related issue. I am so sorry you are in so much pain. I know this is going to sound wierd but I honestly think that the best thing I could advise you to do is to walk as much as possible and get in as much liquids. I would play around with the liquids..see if you did better with warm ones or cold ones and then stick with which ever felt best. As for the walking...When they did the surgery they put in a ton of gas in your stomach to blow it up..I think you are still full of gas and you need to release it. Walking helps so much, actually more than one would believe until you do it. If your surgeon will not order you the liquid pain meds call your primary doctor and explain the poor treatment that your surgeon gave you. I would request 10-14 days worth and see how you feel then. I hope this helps. Take care of yourself!

Greetings, This is my first post. I just got banded on 8-19-10 and have been taking it easy in bed and walking around as much as I can. My doctor was wonderful (Dr. Cirangle in SF). I had a quick and tidy surgery and was out 6 hours post-op. I was given liquid Vicoden and another pain medication that comes in tiny baby sized pills and it has really helped with the pain management. I sure do feel gassy though! Were you given any protien Soup broth or protien thin drink mixes? I am getting 60 grams of protien a day and 60-70 oz. of Fluid. My doctor does not allow soft foods or yourt until the 3rd week so it is just protien drinks and broths for me right now but I am not hungry at all. I can't wait to see the weight come off!!!

Hi all, My name is Jill and I was banded on November 24th by Dr. Harris Dabideen in Flint, Michigan. I was lucky because insurance approval process was not difficult at all. I was seen by the doctor on September 23 and was scheduled for surgery on 11/24. I was very nervous before the surgery and the 10 day pre op diet was difficult, but I made it through. Surgery went very well and I was lucky to have no nausea at all. Weight before pre-op diet was 238, day of surgery 226 and at my 2 week check up today I was 216. Total of 22!!! I feel really great about my progress. Just found out today after talking with the doctor what type of band that was used and it was the lap band not the realize. I am new to this web site. Can someone tell me how to get those cute weight tracking bars at the bottom of your chats? Hopefully soon my diabetes will improve and I can live without taking insulin, which was why I really wanted this surgery. I also have sleep apnea and use a CPAP machine hopefully soon I won't have to use that anymore. But I will probably need another sleep study completed. I have been walking everyday with my husband, who has been a wonderful support to me through the surgery process. Hope everyone has a great day!

Don't decrease calories, if anything eat maybe 10-15% more for a short period time. Take a look at what you are eating. Watch the carbs, try eating some more complex type carbs it you can. Still get your liquids in
