    August Post Ops

I use vita-vim chewable vitamins, they might be jamieson brand. I got to see a dr today. He gave me a prescription for a different antacid that I'll try tomorrow. Also got a scrip for anti nausea, tried it 15min ago and its staying down alright. I was getting to the point where water was even making me nauseous. In the past 4 days I had 2 bites of banana, 2 tbsp yogurt, half cup soup and maybe 5 cups of water. Was drinking some g2 Gatorade trying to get electrolytes.

    September Bandsters

i'm not real sure how much protein now. I know that I found a drink called bolthouse vanilla chai tea at wal mart that I like that has 19grams in it that I like to have for breakfast then I usually end up having a light and fit yogurt smoothie mid morning and soup of some sort for lunch and dinner. I hate water so that has been hard for me. I rarely get in enough. my weight loss was great, but has now stalled. I hope that don't last. I guess it's really my fault. sausage and peanut butter. hum. I just really don't want to lose my hair ya know. and I can't stand my stomach growling all the time. I'm really not that bad. I only ate one little bite of the sausage I was scared of it. and it did hurt. I've just been wandering like a lot of other people if I really did the right thing because I have been sooooo hungry this week. I've had ice cream too. I'm so ashamed.

    Little Worried

Sure. Two cups of coffee every morning including weekends to start. Monday-Friday varies because of work. Usually after coffee I will have my protein shake made with 1 scoop of whey protein mix, ice, greek yogurt with fruit, and almond milk. If, which is not all the time. If I get hungry before lunch, I will have a cheese stick. Lunch will then be 1 four ounce baked fish fillet with a lettuce, tomato, cheese, bacon bits, and bell pepper salad with ranch dressing. Some days I can eat all my salad other days I cannot. Supper will then be a small chili with cheese and onion from Wendys. or some type of Mexican food. I love Mexican food. Some days it may be a beef Gordita. If I eat out with my SO, we share a beef and chicken fajita platter for which I will eat the Charro beans, some meat, with guacamole and pico de gallo so I can have the left overs for lunch the next day. It sounds like a lot but I nibble. Other evenings I will cook me a turkey patty with cheese and no sides. Everyday is different and depends on my mood. If I crave a hamburger, I will get one. I usually purchase the $2 bacon McDouble and I only eat one bun. I can't eat two and will have a few French fries. That's only when I crave which is not often. Other mornings if I'm feeling hungry I will eat eggs with bacon. This past week I shied away from my norm and actually bought Weight watchers dinners for breakfast and Lean Cuisin meals for lunch. They have the ounces on the box so I don't usually eat it all. I only get them for the variety of meats and green vegies not so much for the potatoes or pasta which most of them have. I try to avoid those. I hope this helps.

    Post-Op January 2014 Losers Club!

I was cleared last week. 2% reduce fat sargento cheese sticks Gordon's Grilled Tiilapia. (These are 3 oz portions. One portion was too much for me.) My nutritionist said I could have deli meat but it has to be Boar's Head. I've tried the Jerk turkey breast and oven roasted beef. Dannon Light & Fit Greek yogurt John Soul's fajita chicken strips Hebrew National 97% fat free hot dogs These are the only things I've tried so far. I can have shrimp and crab next week. I'm looking forward to next week lol. Good luck! Just take your time eating and enjoy this new stage.
  5. Would you say that you weigh all solids (meat, veggies, cheese, etc). And measure semi solids and edible liquids? And how much do you eat at one meal? I eat 2-3 oz of solid food at a meal. I weigh out my meat (example: chicken) and don't usually weight or measure my veggies bc I can usually only eat about a couple tsp-tbsp of veggies. If it's a semi-solid or thicker liquid, I eat about 3-4 Fluid ounces (like chili, Soup, yogurt)

Does everyone meet their protein goal every day?

Okay, this morning I did the protein shake, with milk, yogurt and my Injury powder. Got 1/4 of the way done and my IBS hit me out of the blue. I haven't had an issue like that since having surgery. I can do each of these things separately with no issues, but am assuming it's the combination of everything together that my body rejects.

Does everyone meet their protein goal every day?

Thanks! Yogurt is actually something I CAN do without issues! Soup too! So frustrated with the meat issues....just forms a slimy coating around it and all comes right back up.

    Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Isolate

I bought that tub at costco in vanilla shake for $49.99 last month. I have not tried it straight, but use it as a base. I have liked it just fine. Best shake I've made with it so far - 1 scoop vanilla ON whey Protein isolate + 2 TBSP PB2 + .75 cup nonfat greek yogurt + 1/2 cup Water + 5 ice cubes + blend = yum!

Good job! Everybody is different and everybody's body reacts differently. I bet in addition to different doctors having different treatment plans, they probably have a different plan for each of their patients based on what they learned about them pre-op! So, I think the most important thing is to be open and honest with your doctor (and yourself) about what you are and are not doing in regards to eating and exercise. I think in addition to watching portion size, it’s also important to count calories. If I didn’t start counting calories, I would have had no idea that the food I typically ate, even in small portions, was horrible and there were just as satisfying alternatives that are better. For instance, for breakfast, I would gear towards maybe a Sausage McMuffin with egg. One of those is not huge, even for those with restriction could probably go down ok with some good chewing. But that sucker has 450 calories, 30g carbs, and only 21g protein! A better choice with what I've found to be just as satisfying, a ham and cheese omelet on low carb tortilla - 235 calories, 12g carbs, and 25g protein! Even other things as simple as yogurt, Yoplait light vs. Yoplait thick and creamy or regular pudding vs sugar free pudding, both the same amount of food, but a difference of almost 100 calories. That’s the main reason I do keep track of what I eat, it just helps me to make better choices. I'm not melting away, but I'm ok with that now because I know I'm doing the best I can making good food choices and better eating habits. The weight will come off in time. I've already lost over 20lbs in 2 months when it took me 30 months to lose 80lbs on my own, so I think I'm doing pretty darn good with my band!

    October Sleevers! Announce Yourselves

I'm the same as you, my Dr. say's 3days of yogurt and water?... I'm still shaking my head as far as the death row statement I feel the same way...OMG!!! I feel like shouting ... my date is Oct 22nd
  11. Ya I have some powders from Nector that I really like, they are 28g then with the Greek yogurt it bumps it up to 40g or more. I usually just add a little water or you could do skim milk too. I use a variety of the frozen fruits. They work for me!
  12. Hi Janie, I hope the pain is improving. I have been really lucky and really have have had only mild discomfort and no gas pain. I am struggling to eat and drink but then my regime seems much faster than all yours. I started on Weetabix and yogurt which I can't cope with now. At least the fluids are going much better today and I have abandoned foods so far today. We are also looking at recipes, it is so good to hear new ideas, so please do share them when you are ready. Take care and hope the pain eases Claire

ARe you serious about the Jello (i presume the sugar free) on the Pre-Op diet. i'll check that out with my Massage Therapist (also a Naturalist). What he has been telling me is that yes - the short statement is "Shrink the Liver" - however the longer version has the yogurt forcing the organs to start purging the fat and toxins out. That knowledge has helped. on many levels. Thanks for the responses. It seems i have trouble accessing the site from my home system, so i'm stuck waiting until i get to work each day. - for now any way.

That almost DOES sound good! Probably much more appealing if I were only able to eat yogurt and cottage cheese, though
  15. Okay - first timer here. Jan 25 is magic day. nerves kicking in. need some ground advise for the pre-op diet. i can't do cottage cheese - havn't done white milk or close faxcimilies since i was 6 months old - can't handle the smell, taste - even the thought of it makes me shiver - Yogurt however - i have gotten to like over the past few years. but two weeks of yogurt and tea? - are they serious? i'm going to try - but does anyone have some "tricks" they can share. i'm not sure what happens if i'm not able to hold out for 2 weeks of yogurt and tea?
  16. Bikergrammy--glad you liked the pics. I just eat oatmeal for breakfast--not very exciting:( Barb, the group pic was good--you all looked happy:) Betsy--has someone already said this... Soon it will be-- Dome Dome on the Range! I have a diet question--Do any of you have regularly scheduled snacks between meals like fruit or yogurt?
  17. hi everyone. i am on the preop diet now. The best drinks I have tasted are made by Worldwide Protein. They are premixed, in a can and really taste pretty good. I buy them at Trader Joes, but I am sure if you google the brand name, you can find other places to get them. I have been alternating the drinks with Dannon lite and fit yogurt once or twice a day and at night I mixed up one with a banana and it's delicious and filling. My surgery date is 4/15/09 but I wasn't as strict on my 6 month diet as I should have been, so I am extremely restricted now. My surgeon will not perform the banding if you haven't lost the weight he told you to in the beginning. Thank goodness the shakes are as tastey as they are! Hope this helps you. Good luck!

Hi and welcome ljgnorth!!! Good luck on your upcoming date!! I won't lie to ya, for me the 2 week pre-op diet was REALLY hard. Admittedly, I cheated the first two days and then realized I was only hurting myself and got thru the remainder of the 2 weeks. I told myself that I NEEDED to do this to "shrink my liver" in order to make the actual operation go smoother for the docs and have a better recovery. When I told myself that....it really helped me stay on track. Seriously man, if I can do it, anyone can! I also can't stand the taste, site or smell of cottage cheese and so I only did the yogurt thing. Tips: take one meal at a time and don't think of how many days you still have left of it....you'll go insane. "hmmmmm what will I have for Breakfast (lunch, dinner) today...hmmmm lets see....I can have yogurt or....oh yeah, there is yogurt....or perhaps some yogurt". It was tough man. But to help, I treated each time as a meal and I wouldn't eat out of the lil' yogurt cups (if that is what you have). Dish out your yogurt into a real bowl with a real spoon and sit down to breakfast/lunch/dinner like a regular person and eat. It makes ya feel like you are eating a regular meal....and have really as much as you want. In all seriousness, if you can make it through about the first 5 days, the rest will be easier......it is the carb withdrawal that will get to ya....but after the first few days, it gets better....just keep telling yourself that you are literally going thru withdrawal; it seems to make it easier to take. Prepare yourself for the carb withdrawal headaches and irritability....but just recognize it for what it is. Good luck!
  19. Lana: That site is http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/HoustonAreaBandsters/ Had a great time. Lana and I went to Spivak's first weekly support group meeting downtown. He wants us to be healthy and party animals, I think. There's going to be a Christmas party and he's sponsoring us in the Komen breast cancer walk/run. I asked about similar changes to the Speigel changes, and there's nothing... OK to continue to go to the Surgicenter for fills, no change in procedures for anything, no required meetings. He seems more into door prizes, fun challenges, belly dancing...jeez! Anyway, the first meeting was terribly interesting. There were probably 50 people, I'd guess, and a bunch of successful bandsters. It was eye opening....it looked like the ones who had the aggressive weight loss with the band were also being serious dieters. Doing things like eating half a yogurt for breakfast and saving the other half for a snack, having a lettuce and tomato salad for lunch, and a protein and veges for dinner...total 600 calories AND working out 5 days a week. Just depends what your goals are.... They handed out some articles and I found that the one of how to deal with plateaus/no weight loss was especially good. Anyway, I have lots of thoughts going on in my head, and tomorrow will be a new day for me.... Most of all, I enjoyed your company, Lana. See you all soon.

I Want My Band Removed Now!!!!!

I've had a lot of challenges with the band, but I think I can offer you some support. I think what you are experiencing is normal. RIght after my surgery, I could not eat more than 1 6oz yogurt and it took me all day to eat it. I got through it by drinking apple juice mixed with water. By the end of my first month, I could eat exactly the same way I did pre-banded. I had no restriction at all after the swelling went down. I hope you start feeling better soon.

    slipped band??

Move to liquids 2 days then mushies. You are swollen. If your stomach is growling you are hungry. I would have soft diet. Maybe some yogurt. Try and stay away from scrambled eggs. They may come back up. Good luck. Your band didn't slip. This sounds like a normal PB.

Twril, Before you crush your pills, check with the pharmacist to see if they can be crushed. Some pills should not be crushed and some cap should not be opened. Just check first. You might be able to ge some of your drugs in liquid form or chewables, ask drugist. Are you still in the clear liquid stage? If so, no yogurt. If all else fails, check with the Dr who prescribed the meds and ask for alternative drugs in liquid or chewable form. Good Luck and Congrats on the Surgery. I am getting band this Thursday Dec 18th,
  23. Per doc , I was on clear 1 week, full on 2nd week.... reality= I was on full after a couple of days so I could get in my protein. I also eat a very little bit of greek low sugar yogurt to get my icky crushed meds down.

I had my second fill yesterday afternoon. Got 0.6 ccs, bringing me up to 5.6 ccs. No problems with finding the port this time, I just laid down, he felt my side, popped in the numbing medication, then in went the huge butt needle and voila! It was in. He likes to take out all the fluid first then put it all back in till full. Let me tell you, when he filled it all the way up, I could feel it close off my tummy! It didn't hurt, but it did feel odd. I did the normal drink water till I felt it at the back of my throat, then he let out fluid until the water went through quickly. Last night I ate some of the shredded pork I made with maybe a 1/4 cup of mashed potatoes topped with green chili from hubby's restaurant. The nurse did tell me to lay off the yogurt in the mornings, she said it's my new ice cream, so no more (since it slides right through and won't sustain the full feeling). So this morning I brought an egg that I'll scramble with some string cheese and salsa. I go back in two weeks for my next fill.
