My Post-Op Diet Log (START: Mushies Stage)

WisconsinGal, I am so jealous you can eat eggs. I had a bday lunch and we ordered take-out. A bit of a toughy. The two choices I saw on the menu that I felt might work were a cup of corn chowder, or a breakfast taco (scrambled egg, black beans and avacado). I was a bit worried about the corn, I am still on mushies and I did not think corn would qualify, so I ordered the taco. I had three bites, and thought I had eaten an anchor. It was like lead. The avacado was yum, but the egg was still to "solid." I am so happy on the mushies, do I ever have to go to soft solids?

    Just Curious...?

Hi it's different for everyone. I'm 5'8 weight 233 wear a 16 and size large pants and shorts from the gap. Lately the 16 has been snug. Not going up a size surgery is in 2 weeks. At my smallest 209 I was a size 10-12. I can't wait to be 165!

    Boot Camp

I can't connect the link but I did it this week I remember Protein: seafood, poultry, dairy, eggs Veggies: green Fruit: none Carbs, bread, pasta: none Avoid: sodium, sugar I think that's all. Good luck
  7. I was worried about mine at the beginning too. I am 6 weeks out now and it looks good. I kept it closed with tarry(sp) strips. 2 weeks ago I removed the strips (4) weeks out. I use antibiotic cream on it regularly. Clean it with peroxide daily. Hope you heal quickly.

    Fatigue

I am almost four weeks out and am still tired. I am getting the fluids and the protein, for the most part, but still can't walk too far. I have been to the grocery store or to Costco but that is my BIg outing for the day. It might be my age---i'm 65. Pre op weight was 307. I have lost 24 pds (including pre op weight loss). I am on soft foods. I am afraid I will never get my energy back. any advice from someone farther down the road???
  9. LOL - Thanks... Happy to answer any questions I can. Yes, I work full time, at a desk, no physical job. I do Protein Shakes randomly, not as much as I used to. I've had 3 fills and I'm right around 5 cc's, I believe. Do I diet? No, I HATE the D word with a passion. Have I made changes? Absolutely, but they are lifestyle changes that have made my band all that much more successful. I've cut out breads, pastas, etc. Sometimes, if I'm really craving something, yeah, I will have it because I'm not DIETING. Dieting is the big ass mean elephant in the room for me. If I'm dieting, I'm doing without and if I'm doing without, well then, that is what I want most. So, do I ever cheat? I'm not "dieting" so there is nothing to cheat on. If I want a bite of ice cream, I take a bite of ice cream, BUT and this is a big big BUT, I do have the will power to LIMIT it. I don't need it, it's a want, I can live without the want, but I'm the type of person that if I don't let myself have something when I want it, I'm going to ruin myself when I finally do snap and eat it all. So, yeah, I have the will power to limit it. My guilty pleasure at the moment. LEMONHEADS!!! BUT, I count out 10 a day and after I eat those 10, that's it, no more. If I get a craving, then I move on to something else to get my mind off of it. If I absolutely cannot, then I have a little something. Freezer pops are good for this, lol. It's a balancing act but something literally flipped when I had surgery. I don't know where or how I got all this will power regarding food from but I do. I've taken to heart that this is a TOOL one that I am lucky lucky to have and I am not going to screw this up. I can't, this is my chance. Plus, I'm terrified of complications, so I probably baby my band a lot more than some. Lastly.... I exercise my ass off. When I hit 250, not even a month after surgery, I started running, and started with a mile. I now run 3-4 miles a day, 6 times a week. I try to run at least one 5k a month. I will tell you, I would not have been this successful without all the exercise. Good luck to everyone on your journeys. It is entirely worth it, everything that you change about your life is for the better! Typical day... Get up around 6am, read in bed for about an hour. During the school year, I'm getting the kids up and ready out the door by about 8:30am. I start work anytime between 8am and 9am. Depending on how busy I am during the day, if I have the time, I get in my run at lunch, if not then I work through lunch and usually eat at my desk. I'm off around 5pm. Getting dinner ready. If I didn't get my run in earlier, then as a family, we go out and run together in the evening. Food wise... Pretty much the same for most of the day, every day. Breakfast - I will either have EggBeaters or make 1 egg, scrambled. Lunch is usually 1/2 cup of 99% FF Chili or canned chicken with Laughing Cow cheese. Dinner is whatever I cook or my husband cooks. We live in a warm client, so we do a lot of grilling. If I feel hungry during the day, I'll eat a Chobani yogurt or something similar. Lots and lots of water/Crystal Light.
  10. Yes! I have some links here to threads on another board from people one, two and three years out. People talk about their metabolism like it's a thing, another organ. That makes my anal, engineering-oriented head hurt. :001_tongue: Your metabolism is a measure of how many calories you burn over a period of time; it's just a rate. Your rate can be average, below average, above average, excellent, poor, etc. But it can't be broken, messed up or dead. Yeah, I know... no one cares. :lol0: I do think that a lifetime of yo-yo dieting can slow down your metabolism. But it's not fixed in stone. We can influence our metabolisms for the better or the worse. I have definitely seen that I can't eat as many calories as the formulas say I can. But that's always been true. It just seems more true now that I'm older. Is my metabolism that much worse? Well, in my 30s, I lost weight eating 1200 calories a day and doing aerobics 2x a week. I lost about a pound a week until the last 10-20 lb. Now, in my 50s, I was eating 800 calories a day and training for a triathlon. And losing 2-3 lb. a week until my calories went up. I'd have to do math to figure out if I'm losing slower or faster or the same as when I was in my 30s. It feels slower, but I suspect it's about the same.

BAKED EGG CUSTARD - EXCELLENT SOURCE OF PROTEIN!!!

Thanks for the post...I will try it this week...
  13. i found a third story different scenario. Thanks for all the replys! I have had problems with the band from the beginning! 2 days after the Surgery I was admitted back into the hospital! I could not even keep my own saliva down. After a week in the hospital I had lost 25 pounds and of course I could not even have a drink of water! All I had was an IV. When they took a picture of the band it was not quite placed where it is normally on most patients but they felt that it could work! For the first 2 months I was on mostly liquids and soft foods. All together I have lost 45 pounds! I have never been able to keep down chicken no matter how many chews I chew. I have vomited almost everyday since I went to solid foods, 3 months after surgery. I don't think I have lost alot of weight because I will eat ice cream many times after I vomit to soothe my throat. At first I thought it was me, maybe I was eating too much or not chewing enough. Then my best friend had the band done it April and she is DOING GREAT!! We can sit down and she will eat more than me, same kind of food, and her band is tighten and mind is completely empty and I will still vomit. So I realized that the band is just not working for me! This had caused me to have bloody ulcers and I am on a double dose of previcid. The Drs have decided that my band needs to come out. I was hoping they just revise it but the Dr says there is no guarantee he could do that! Thats why I have decided on the RNY. I refuse to go back to my old weight. For all you bandsters to be: my Dr says that my case does not happen very often! Like I said before, my bestfriend is doing great and she hasnt vomited once! Best of luck to everyone!!!!!!

  15. Hi guys, I had weight loss surgery about six months ago and have now lost over three stone, I only have 2 to go until I am at my ideal weight. I have heard about the fat transfer breast enhancements and wonder if anybody else has had this? Sounds like a great way to aid in my further weight loss as well as replenish my somewhat saggy boobs. Anyone had this done or had any other breast implants post surgery, and can you tell me if you have this done at your ideal weight or before? Many thanks you beautiful people!!

    3 weeks out and hungry

I was hungry at 3 weeks out also (I still get hungry at 7 months out). I think it is perfectly normal. An acid reducer really does help(I take prilosec). I think alot of us had a "3 week stall. i think thats normal too. Dont fret, my dear. It gets better really fast!
  18. Did anyone have any issues with their pancreas or gallbladder after surgery.
  19. Hi I just begun my journey and decided lap band is best for me, I have a BMI of 54 (ugh), going through Kaiser to have procedure done and insurance say's I'm covered, checked 3 seperate times now to make sure, DR is writing my referral for the surgery once I complete the introduction class in a few weeks, began working out riding excercise bike 8-10 miles a day for 40 min and jogging in pool for another 20-30min evry other day, and started 1200 calorie/day diet hoping to drop some lbs in advance to get the ball rolling and get used to whats instore, been cutting my food into tiny pieces, and chewing to mush to used to that, I've had enough of being fat Anyone else gone through Kaiser or can offer what I should expect in coming weeks, I do know I will be required to lose 10% I was told of current weight, is this true I have read some posts that drs just want you to make an effort and lose what you can before surgery, basically what am instore for in coming week, tests, physc exam? etc thanks
  20. I would stick with what her doctor prescribed, especially days before surgery, definitely nothing solid. Not sure what shakes you are having. I am on New Direction, which is what our doctor wanted and unfortunately I hated the chicken Soup, pudding and and a few of the flavors. I found Muscle Milk in the dairy section has the same protein/carbs/fat and all the nutrition the same as the new Directions and the banana Creme isn't too bad. I am diabetic and hypoglycemic too. Day 3 & 4 were my worst days. I had light headedness, dizziness and a headache. Today I'm doing fine. All the nutrition you need is there if you are doing three shakes a day. You are getting all the Vitamins and minerals you need along with Protein. It sucks, it's hard, but make sure you stay hydrated. My biggest issue is I don't like the taste of the shakes so much. The chocolate with Fiber is growing on me because I have it at breakfast, then I drink a bottle of Water, then I have Propel 0 calories 0 carbs in a flavor like Black Cherry or the Lemon, I make sure I throw in a Decaff Peppermint Tea with a packet of Truvia. The Fiber is helping me go to the bathroom, which I suffer from constipation normally, so that's helping. Good luck, we can do this!

How Often Do You Weigh In?

I weigh myself every day in the morning when I get up. This keeps me accountable. I don't get crazy if its up a lb or two but I know I must keep it back on track. I agree that not weighing myself got me into trouble. Was too comfortable without seeing the numbers on the scale. I don't post any change in weight until its steadily down 2 lbs for the week. Then I change my loss numbers. Its fun to see it still moving down. CAT
  23. Went for check up today and Dr. said I was clear to do whatever I felt like no restrictions even go back to work. I am an RN so I have a 50lb weight requirement and he said go back whenever I thought I was ready he would sign the paper. Nice. I think I will stay off for the next 4 weeks just to use up some of my sick bank time!!!!! I started out at 265lbs on surgery day (I'm only 5'4") down to 254 today!!!
  24. Hello all... thanks for your kind words... I am starting to feel 'pleased' with myself... I think this is the best tool... at long last I am starting to feel human again!! We are all doing really well and this is what I love about this site... the encouragment! Here is one for you though... how complicated are our bodies...? Last week I lost 1lb and 3 1/2 inches. This week it is 4lb and 1/2 inch!!! How strange is that... but, hey, I ain't complaining!

    A question for after surgery

I wore home a pair of loose knit capri pants with a draw string waist that I bought at Walmart and a big t-shirt. I choose to skip the panties and bra for a few days. The pants didn't bother me atall. I would, however, stay away from anything that doesn't have a comfy stretch waist for awhile. It took me about two weeks before I was ready to wear jeans. Good luck.
