    PostOP Pain/management/medication

I was on vicodin and it worked well. I also ended up with a hernia repair that I feel added to the pain (When I showed the nurse where the pain was, she said that's where the hernia was). It depends on how you personally handle it. I'm 6 weeks post op and feeling great, but the first 3 weeks weren't too good for me. The pain was worse than I expected (but I also didn't expect a hernia repair) If you have excessive pain, talk to your dr about pain med options Gas-x will help if you're having gas pains in your stomach....but not the actual surgery gas pains. Those are relieved by walking and for me a back and shoulder massage helped a lot! Then I'd lay on heat for a little bit.
  2. Right now I am a tad bit irritated. I got banded on Nov.2 and since then I have been losing 2-3 lbs a week and this past week I lost nothing. Maybe TMI but this past week I was in my period. Does this have anything to do with it. I work out 4 times a week for an hr each day. I just need some feedback. I'm kinda worried about not losing weight. Advice please.

    After Care

Hey everyone, I have some exciting news, I got approved for gastric bypass this past Monday and, my surgery date is next month on the 22nd. I was just wondering what kinds of exercises that you guys have done and that you've had success in achieving also, I do have PCOS so I was just wondering for my fellow cysters how much weight have you guys lost in 2-12 months and what was your weight loss each month. I was also wondering what types of food did you guys eat after 2 weeks like what could you guys tolerate and, very lastly what can I expect before, during, and after my surgery?

    Just had my surgery

Randy, Try crawling onto all 4's to get in and out of bed. sleeping, I found sleeping on my back or my left side was okay...but yeah, sleeping on my left was out of the question for about 3 weeks. I can now sleep that way. IT GETS BETTER!!! Sorry, I forget the person's name that said she was nervous about banding...all I can say is GO FOR IT! It was the best decision I've ever made. I'm down 38lbs (about 70 more to go) and I'm 7 weeks post op. Thanks for the thread, and I look forward to your blog as well. I am hoping to meet people who have had banding, so I can just bounce ideas/recipes and ask questions etc. I too have a great support system...but they've not done this...so as helpful as they are...they don't completely understand. My husband has also been looking for recipes and healthier stuff to eat, etc.

    thanksgiving jitters....

Im gonna eat on thanksgiving lol For the past 2 weeks, I've been on a strict diet (never cheated once) and lost 8 pounds. Im going to continue this until thanksgiving where Im going to allow myself a small portion of reg food. I think in order to maintain my weight, I can eat whatever just in small portions. But when its time for me to LOSE the weight, I jus cut out alot of things. And thats because I have my own deadline lol I want to reach -50 by dec. So far I lost 35 I jus need to lose 5 more pounds by the end of this month and then 10 pounds in dec...And then hopefully by June I will have lost over 100 pounds.

    i am really doing this

I can feel your nerves...I have them too. But I know it is the right decision. I did the research, looked at the pros and cons, and know it is right for me. I talked with oodles of people who have had the three different procedures done and know the sleeve fits me best. I guess it is my relationship with food changing so drastically that has me the most sad. But this love is what has gotten me here! You have my good thoughts streaming your way!

    just banded

Hello All! I'm Nanster. I was banded by Dr. Spivak 6 days ago in Houston, TX. The surgery itself was not so bad, but I was unaware of how "SICK" I would feel as I "detox'd" from my old way of eating. I planned to be banded Friday and return to work Monday...they told me "no problem"....WRONG....I felt like CRAPOLA for several days.:sick Each day has gotten a little better, thank the Lord. I guess my body has just been "crashing" from the reduction in calories, the lack of caffeine, the fact that my tissues were healing, etc. etc. I just wish I had been more aware that this was going to occur, rather than expecting "no big deal" for an outpatient procedure as was projected to me by the doctor, the surgery center staff and other "losers" I've met. Perhaps it's all my fault for not having gone to a low-calorie, no-caffeine diet ahead of time, but I was primarily told to go off "whites"-flour, sugar, Pasta, rice, potatoes. I'm having difficulty getting enough calories in right now. I'm "full" before I even start!!! I don't have ANY desire to eat and feel full with an "empty" stomach. I have to push to drink Water, broth, soup. I tried some grits this morning...only ate about 4 tsps full, over the course of 1/2 an hour and they felt like a huge rock in my gut for 2-3 hours!!!! I finally laid down and they passed while I napped. The rest of today, I've been having only liquids...ensure, Boost, Atkins shake, water, tea, and a little no-sugar-added applesauce. I assume from the majority of posts that I'll actually be one of the "lucky" ones in the future, as I will be able to put off a fill for a while since I feel full ALL THE TIME! Is that a correct assumption? I have actually lost 8 pounds in 6 days, which I feel is TOO much - not that I don't like seeing it on the scale - for such a short time. I think that is a further indication that my body is really "crashing" and that's why I have felt so poor so far. Does anyone have any suggestions for a "newbie"???:biggrin1: I am taking tomorrow off work-make it an even week! I need to get my home back in order and try to catch up on my bills, etc. and used to functioning on all liquids. I still have shakes and sweat constantly....any idea on how long these things will last?????? Am I almost past the "detox" stage??? (I hope, I hope) Thanks for your replies!!! Nanster
  8. Does everyone get it? I'm pre op but preparing myself with all the supplies i need before my surgery in two weeks. It seems that many people suffer from severe heartburn. Is this true? What can i get just in case I end up with heartburn. Will it be for the rest of my life? Thanks!
  9. I've lost a total of 25 pounds since I started Kaisers Options class I still need to lose 8 more pounds and I have about 7 more weeks of class. I also have been using the FitBit which I love so much it shows you so much that you do throughout the day. After my class I'm hoping I get an appointment with the surgeon right away and get to have my surgery within 2 to 3 weeks after that date.

    Typical weight loss

I typically lose 1-3 pounds per week. I lost 11 pounds on my pre-op diet and I've lost 70 pounds since being banded in mid April of this year. I will tell you that the first 50 pounds came off really quickly but the last 20 have taken more time.

    Steri-Strips

My steristrips stayed on for 2 whole weeks and when I went to the doctor the nurse said "I dont know why they tell you not to take these things off before 2 weeks...they harbor so much bacteria!" and they pulled them off and I was healed. I had one nurse tell me to leave them on until they fall off and the other to tell me when they start peeling up at the edges to go ahead and take them off.

    Slippage

It shouldn't, seven days post op I was so bored I decided to go back to work, the night before we had a snow storm that dumped over a foot of snow. Well, like I said I wanted to go to work, so I shoveled my car out. Probably not the best idea, but I did it and I was kind of worried. 3 weeks or so later I had a barium swallow (my doc does it within the first month) and everything was fine
  13. I started my 2 week liquid diet on Monday , Jan 16th and as of today Thursday Jan 19th I lost 5 lbs already . From 245 in July I'm down to 225 . I lost 20 lbs already in total . Super excited .

Pre Op 2 week liquid diet

I started my 2 week on Jan 11 and am down at least 12 pounds now. What used to be my comfy jeans (weren't too tight on the waist) are now getting way too big. The stress/fears of the pre-op diet aren't near as bad now after seeing the results. It's got me excited now and am feeling the difference.

    Lack of energy

At 67 I had lots of energy 2 weeks post sleeve and shopped for hours. I do not know if it was mental or what. I do take a great multivitamin, B-12 shots, have had a knee replacement, and have followed the guidelines of the surgeon. Do you have a Nutritionist you can talk to? You should get lots of advice here. Best of luck!

    Surgery Date - 9/3/14

Have completed 2 weeks of the shakes, veggies and water. Down 11 and am feeling great. These boards have given me lots of info on what to hand on hand during and after surgery. Not looking forward to having to fly home 2 days after but will follow all the surgeon's advice. I watched the procedure on Youtube so I know what is going to happen. I'm sure everyone else fears (like me) being out under and not coming out of it alive. Lol I have done lots of roasting for getting the veggies in: kale "chips", broccoli and cauliflower chunks that I bake and then dip in salsa. Nummy! I do however, think I've had my fill of squash and zucchini now. Good luck, we can do this!
  17. Hello again all. I have been extremely frustrated with my weight loss. I had my surgery on Feb 5 2014 so I am a little over 2 months po. The first month from the time the Dr recorded my weight until he seen me 1 month po I dropped 34 lbs. I was ecstatic. When I went in for my 2 month check I only lost 7 lbs taking me down to 226. That was on April 7. Since then I have dropped 8 lbs in the last 2 weeks. I work out at least 5 days a week doing 45 mins on my elliptical and then lifting 10 lb weights on top of it to get my arms in shape hoping some of the skin will stretch back. I eat healthy getting 60 grams of protein daily and plenty of water though sometimes I may be a few grams short on my protein and a little short on fluids. Why am I not losing more weight then I am? It just doesn't make sense to me. My Dr was upset with my at my last visit for not dropping enough weight. I see so many people hitting the 100lb mark before a year and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I plan to start tomorrow walking 4 miles a day like I was before I got the elliptical a couple weeks ago on top of everything else I'm doing. Can someone please help me or guide me so I can increase my weight loss?
  18. Oh wow your four weeks out? Are you on the mushy food phase? I have been on the liquid diet for two weeks before surgery and I have been so emotionally hungry! Thanks for the kind words Yes, I'm on limited soft foods: cottage cheese, refried Beans, mushed veggies, oatmeal/cream of wheat, greek yogurt. I get to go to the next phase in 10 days. I was on a 2 week pre-packaged food diet pre-op. Don't worry, your hunger will disappear after surgery; at least, MINE did. Now I eat because I HAVE to...or because I WANT to.
  19. 4 weeks post op and have pain on my right side around my waist it hurts when I'm standing or when I'm bending down I'm so mad idk what's wrong

    Hungry

I was sleeved on June 20th and I 'think' I am hungry all the time! I don't really know what full feels like? Does chest discomfort mean your sleeve is full??? I get those feelings but my stomach is always growling. I am getting a minimum of 60 grams of protein and 50 ounces of water a day. I am still on liquids so I also eat jello, broth, and popsicles. I have even tried pudding and yogurt! I just feel confused because everyone told me they didn't even want to eat the first week!

    Feeling Crappy

I was so weak for the first two weeks and all I could drink was really warm liquid. Everything youre feeling, I went through.. 6 months later, im at goal.. Normal bmi, size 4 or 6, eating like a normal thin person, and running 5 miles a day, 5 days a week. Eventually everything you are going through will all be soooo worth it. One day at a time, everyday it gets better and better. Knowing that is what kept me going
  22. I had my lapband surgery on January 7. What is the average weight loss for the 1st week? I'm still feeling hungry. Is that normal?

    Lost Total Of 64 Lbs

Brad- Congrats! It will only get better and better. I have pretty much lost the same amount myself so far! Isn't it amazing? =) I am soo happy and love to exercise and move as much as I can. I totally agree with you on not weighing until you get to the docs...I do the same...your weight goes up and down like crazy..so its not accurate to be weighing every single day...maybe every week if you wanted to...but if you wait, then you are shocked by the time you see the doctor again...I had lost 22 pounds last month! They were shocked! LoL. Well good luck on the rest...keep on going! =)
  24. I had the same pain. It takes time. I went for a massage 2x/week for about 8 wks. I go for deep tisue massage every week. Good luck! It is worth it!
  25. I had my surgery October 12. It will be 3 weeks Wednesday and my back and below both ribs are still killing me. I saw my Dr. last Monday and he said that all was OK and that it would take time!!! But how long???? I was using the liquid Vicodin but the crap made me feel funny. Liquid Tylenol did not even dent the pain but 2 Motrin helped. What about you guys???? Any help!!??? Mark
