  1. My liquid diet isn’t too bad. 3 protein shakes a day and they asked that I also eat 2 yogurts but I can only manage 1. Your liver must not need to be shrunk much. Lucky you! And same about the nothing after midnight. I don’t mind the not eating food part but I LOVE water and my surgery is late in the day (3:15pm, have to be there by 1:45pm) so I will be parched for a while, lol
  2. Wow, have you gone meatless too?? I am a Sleeve to RNY revision. I've always LOVED meat and milk products and eggs and butter etc etc. All 40 years of my life I have never gone without it! And I ate it with my band, and with my Sleeve. So here's how the Vegan happened. My doc had me on clear liquids for 3 weeks with no diary...then told me to add back in eggs, and grounded meat. And I LOVE yogurt, milk, cream, Cheese OMG, on my last trip from France I had a WHOLE suitecase Packed with cheese from Hard to downright Stinky! I'm a certified Cheesaholic! But, I survived the 3 weeks without it, and without much veggies, fruits etc. But I was tired, and felt malnutritioned and unhealthy and constipated etc. Which is kinda to be expected. But seeing as this is not my first rodeo, I wanted to listen to my body more and not repeat the same mistakes. So...I started to educate myslef of nutrition nightly to see how best I can support my body through the healing process and nourish it while loosing weight. One profound influence was watching the documentary "What the Health" on Netflix (I so recommend you watch that!). So I replaced my morning Egg (s) with my Green Smoothie (which seamlessly incorporates my 1 a day Bariatric Vitamin chew from ProCar Bariatric health and the rest was history. Like right now, post my dinner, I'm not just feeling full, I'm feeling Satisfied and harmonious. Hard to explain but there is a difference. Like I said, I know it's not for everyone, but I'm super excited about the results, not just in the scales, so if anyone is cooking a vegetable or even a meat, I would love to be inspired. Because that said, it's not like I'll never touch another chicken or egg again, just for now, I'm doing so well without, trying not to tinker with the formula. Veggie or not, we need to learn how to cook again and enjoy a positive relationship with food again, but with Bariatric friendly healthy food, so we don't feel deprived and one fine day when we can eat more, start slipping into old habits. So were you Veterinarian before or thinking of becoming? Would love to hear more about your veggie meals. I try to post mine
  3. Yay! Congrats! Seems like your progression is quicker than mine has been! In no time you’ll be joining me in puréed land! Thinking about having some cottage cheese or yogurt tomorrow morning...yum!

    January 2020 Surgery Folks

That's so weird cause I've been having the same issue. Even water is sitting poorly and leaves me burpy. I decided to try a reset and yesterday I did all liquids, water and shakes. Today I think I'll stick to soft foods (I'm thinking yogurt and eggs:)) and I'm hoping that will do the trick. Tomorrow's my weigh in say so a cleanse can't hurt...

    January 2020 Surgery Folks

Last few days: Breakfast: 1 egg with half slice American cheese Lunch: 1 oz refried beans with sprinkle cheddar cheese, 1 oz avocado, 1 ounce sour cream Dinner: eggdrop soup with protein/collagen powder Breakfast: 4 oz cottage cheese with pureed pineapple Lunch: mashed cauliflower and parsnips (so much better than potatoes! So yummy!) Dinner: buffalo chicken dip Breakfast: 3 oz yogurt, 2 baby food (apple peach spinach pouch) Lunch: string cheese and applesauce Dinner: pureed lobster bisque (was so good I ate it too fast and got the sweats lol) Breakfast: 1/2 banana with 1 tbsp peanut butter Lunch: Yes! Brand soup (cauliflower and roasted potato) Dinner: refried bean plate as above. I've only been on purees/soft foods for four days so that's the basic run down. But I'm satisfied and happy! I don't snack in between right now because I was doing poorly on my fluids and it helps to have more time in between to drink more fluids. I hate protein shakes so viscerally much, I bought Genepro and have been just mixing that in my fresh iced tea. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  7. I always have the chobani yogurt but it has alot of carbs 19g and 160 calories with 14g protein any ideas and anyone have an idea how many carbs allowed per day , to lose weight

low carb yougrt with a lot of protein?

Low fat greek yogurt is so good, we actually use it for just about anything in salad dressings instead of sour cream ext
  9. Congatulations!! Wow already walking a mile...Great news. It's terrific that you are so excited and happy to have your sleeve. I add 1 scoop of Solgar Vanilla Bean Whey, (16gms protein) to Uncle Ben's multi grain Cream of Wheat (7gms of protein per packet). I also do the same with the various brands of greek yogurt-1 scoop solgar whey to a 6oz container of yogurt. Other than that I still have not attempted to make any type of whey shake. I've been using soy, almond or hazelnut milk to mix in my cream of wheat. Hope that helps. Best wishes to you in your WL journey.

    Spilling the beans

I have only told 2 people in office at this point and like you there is a group of us who work closely and some of us eat together in the cafeteria everyday. The pre-op diet hasn't been bad, I have just been saying I am on a doctor supervised plan, with high Protein and I am telling them how much I lose each week. I haven't given them the opportunity to speculate about it. My surgery was originally going to be the 11th but the doctor wanted me to continue the pre-op for a few more weeks. The challenge for me is going to be returning to work while in week two full liquids. I can always bring yogurt or cream Soups or broth and they may not question it along with my already standard Protein shakes. I know it must be hard in such a small office but if they see you doing stuff pre-op with protein shakes and whatnot and you just come out and say you are on a diet supervised from your doctor, they may not think anything of it. I too said I was going on vacation and when I come back and continue to lose weight perhaps they won't be surprised since they knew I was trying and was losing beforehand. Your situation is definitely more complex because of the roommate. Stay positive and don't let it worry you. And if they do find out or you do decide to tell them, their opinion or comments don't matter. All that matters is you and you should be comfortable with your decision to do this. Don't let anyone make you feel bad about it.

    Pureed food stage

Shel, I think it's more not keeping anything down. Just be careful ya never wanna screw yourself up. And thank you guys all for your responses. I am trying desperately to stay away from starches and creamed soups but there seriously isn't a lot to eat if you can't do the puréed meats and don't want to blow up on carbs and sugar also and I can't live on yogurt and protein shakes and eggs for 3 weeks. I just can't lol
  13. Hi Jan. sleevers! My surgery was Jan. 7th. I couldn't wait until I was on soft foods, now that I am, it's a challenge, but I'm plugging along. I found my sleeve DOES NOT like pork. I'm not drinking Protein shakes (they just make me gag), getting most of my protein through food. Once in a while I have yogurts, but I'm sick of those too. I have been eating chicken, cheese, Beans and Turkey or chicken lunch meats that sit great in my stomach. I'm getting between 600-700 calories a day, but most days it's around 650. I walk daily for an hour, two days a week I walk 3.5 miles (we walk the lake). I'm so glad for the time change, now I can walk later and its still light out. It seems like I am able to hold less and less these days. My starting weight was 245, at my last appointment I was 207 (that was Feb), I won't know how much I weigh until my next appointment in April (I don't own a scale and don't want one). I do know I have dropped 3 pant sizes, 3 shirt sizes and 2 belt sizes (on notch 4 of 7 on my current belt). I'm taking all my Vitamins like a good girl. I refuse to buy new clothes, so I look a bit ridiculous with my baggy clothes, but I have my belt wrapped snug around my pants. I told myself I would splurge on month 5 or 6 (just in time for summer). It's strange seeing my reflection in the mirror when I walk by. I'm so used to seeing my stomach first. This transformation definitely takes some getting used to. Good luck everyone.

    Vegan & WLS

Hello, chickabo. Please know that I come from a place of wanting to help provide you some information and share my experience. I'm not saying I'm right or wrong, this is just my experience over the past 8 weeks. And I know when I was pre surgery I wanted as much information as I could get to help me. Before I go into my story below, I found a doctor online, Dr. Garth Davis, (http://www.thedavisclinic.com), who is a Bariatric surgeon in Texas -he is a 'plant based' doctor. I found this guy after I had my surgery, but he seems to be a good resource and one that I wish I would have found pre-surgery. You may find his information helpful or at least contact his office to get information sent to you so that you have some to help you with your doctor. Here is my story, if you want to read further: I was a vegan for several years pre-surgery. So was my family (husband and two sons). We did it for the animal issue, not the health issue. Trust me when I say I have seen more than most people on animal cruelty and food and I battle mentally with it everyday. When I first started looking into the Lap-band, I didn't find anything on vegan and Lap-band. All I kept seeing was 'Protein, protein, protein' and more 'protein.' But I knew, as a vegan, that I could get enough protein to hit 60 grams or more a day per what my doctor was telling me I had to have. I had done it for years and didn't see the issue. (When I say protein here is what I mean: There are only a few "complete proteins" (a protein that contains all the 8 essential amino acids that your body is unable to make on its own) for vegans and they are soy milk, tofu, and tempeh (these are the only true "complete proteins" for vegans). All other Proteins that you get from plants are called "incomplete proteins" like grains, legumes, seeds, and nuts. Now as vegan, you can take two "incomplete proteins" and combine them to can get a "complete protein." Example: grains + legumes or legumes + seeds/nuts.) So the issue wasn't getting "protein" per say. The issue that I saw right away was getting the enough of the right "protein" (complete proteins) which lead me to where I would have the biggest issue being vegan-- the volume of food that I would need to eat to get a minimum of 60 grams of protein a day. You see, when I was vegan (pre band), I could eat a large tofu "egg" wrap with a cup of broccoli and vegan cheese inside for Breakfast. This would give me ~14 grams of protein for ~350 calories or so (including a low carb wrap). However, when I look at the numbers in more detail with my post-band rules, this just doesn't give me the right amount of protein for the calories (10/1 - for every 10 calories in the food it should have at least 1 gram of protein). So, even thought it would give me "complete protein" for the meal, it wasn't the 10/1 rule. But more importantly, that is a HUGE amount of food to be eating after Lap-Band surgery. There is no way I could eat that much in one sitting. I might be able to make two meals of it now. That means for two meals I would only be getting ~14 grams of protein. So, having said that, I could (and do on occasion) supplement with Protein drinks (Sun Warrior Original Flavor chocolate or vanilla is the absolute best tasting and it has a 80 calories / 4 carbs / 15 grams of protein - which is great), but I quickly learned after I moved to soft solid foods (after the liquid diet pre and post surgery) that I wanted to eat food - I was SICK of drinking my calories. So protein drinks can fill in the gaps for getting more protein, but I found that I wanted to eat my calories instead of drinking them. So this wouldn't be an option for me longterm. So, what's an animal loving vegan who really wants / needs a Lap-band to do? As I was doing research, I ran across an article that talked about a devout vegan (animal lover) who was vegan for years and all of a sudden started craving animal protein. Long article short, she took a bite of something that had animal protein in it and as she said, "guess what, the world didn't end!" That was my moment. I thought, I have spent years battling my weight and part of that was doing everything that was 'best' for everyone else and it was time that I took care of me. So that is when I made the switch to vegetarian. I had huge amount of guilt (that I still carry around) but I knew I needed to at least try it versus continue down my road of being obese and miserable. You see, WLS patients aren't choosing the easy way out, contrary to what you might think, read, see, or hear. We chose surgery where we are cut open and surgically altered - that is not easy. We chose to eat very minimal amounts of food when others around us are eating pounds of it - that is not easy. We chose to exercise at least 210 minutes a week - that is not easy. We chose to have to chew every little bite we take 20-30 times - that is not easy. We have to take Vitamins that are horrible every single day - that is not easy. So to me, making a few food changes to my diet didn't seem that hard compared to all the other "not easy" stuff I was agreeing to do. So, after my pre-op and post-op diet of all liquids (which I had for 3 weeks), when I made the move to soft proteins I incorporated some yogurt (which I still can't stand) and then I incorporated some string cheese and some egg whites (not eggs). I did this very slowly. I then progressed to eating salmon, tuna, and shrimp. I still use all my vegan condiments (vegan mayo, cream cheese, sour cream, etc.) but I chose to add in easier proteins to my day. I'm not going to tell you how great I feel or how I'm losing weight by the lbs daily, but I'm just going to tell you that it is working for me right now, today and that's all I have. Opening my mind and putting more focus on me is working for me, today. And everyday is another day to do it better. I have tried to get away from "I did bad today," to "I will try to do better tomorrow" and that has helped to. I hope some of this has helped you a little bit. It's okay if it didn't. I just want you to know that whatever you choose to do, do it for you. This is YOUR time and no one or no thing can take it away from you. Sending you all the best and well wishes. Keep us posted on here! Jen
  15. Can we have Greek yogurt with fruit in it? What do you put in your tuna and chicken salad?

    Waffle recipe

Hello! I thought I’d drop in and share a waffle recipe that I really like. 1/4 cup oats (I use quick oats, but rolled work as well) 1/4 cup vanilla Greek yogurt 1/2 small banana 1 large egg 1 scoop vanilla protein powder 1/4 tsp baking powder splash of vanilla blend all the ingredients together until smooth, then you can make it in a waffle iron or make pancakes with it. This does make about 3 waffles, so you can scale down the recipe or save some for later ☺️ You can also omit the yogurt, I’ve made it without the yogurt plenty of times. You can also substitute the banana with applesauce or pumpkin purée.

    I am hungry

There really is no reason to be hungry on even a full-liquids diet. Protein shakes -- homemade, not canned -- can be extremely filling, and Soups, yogurt, and pudding can help too. Don't be counting calories or worrying about serving sizes at this early point--just take in what your body needs to be satisfied and let you concentrate on healing. Kathy, you may have already gotten to soft foods by now, and I hope that's helping your hunger. Let us know how you're feeling!

    I am hungry

Looks like youre not getting in enough Protein.....the mashed taters and stuff seem easy to get down...and taste good....I did the same thing at times......but the carbs are only going to make you more hungry....try adding yogurt...which many have good protein content......cottage cheese well mashed....so many alternatives.... As for the fill.....you wont really know if you need a fill until you are past the mush stage....and on more solid foods.....because the mushy stuff and soft stuff quickly passes thru the stoma....I have 2ccs in right now....that was my first fill at week 6...and at times I can still eat quite a bit if the food is mushy or soft...my fill was placed during a port revision......i went for my first fill at 5 weeks....only to find that my port was completely flipped.....think my dog tore my stitches when she jumped on me....naughty girl..... Good luck....and listen to your doc.....he/she is there for advice and listen......after all its what we pay them for.... Becca 8-6-03 Dr. Chua, Milwaukee WI 340/298/170ish.......will weigh next week.....will be 3 weeks no weighing at that point....hope to be suprised!!!:cheeky

November 09 Knockouts! Check in here POST surgery! :)

skinnygirl, sorry for the delayed response...I agree that we all should share all the do's and the don'ts!!! I have had 3 fills to get to the 5 cc's..I have great restriction now. I see my doctor every month regardless if I need to or not..which I like! I will start with the bad..I use pineapple juice if I get stuck..which has only happened 4 times. The pineapple juice works wonderfully..relief within minutes!! Exercise...I walk and I walk daily..that and chase my 2 year old son around. Once the weather gets a little warmer I will swim. My doctor pushes walking and I agree with him. I am starting to carry hand weights but that is it. I do like to ride bicycles but my husband has a bad knee so we don't do that as often as I would like. Diet..I am not a morning eater (just how I was raised) so Monday-Friday..protein shake--Myoplex Lite 20gr protein...Sat & Sun omelet (I have more time to make it). Lunch Tuna or Chicken Salad either made with mayo or cottage cheese, cheese, egg & relish with a couple of crackers or 2 pieces of cheese rolled up in deli meat or salad. For snacks I eat Chobani yogurt or SF pudding. Now for dinner...the one thing that as soon as got off of mushies after surgery I committed to myself and my family was this was a lifetime committment not a diet. I prepare dinner for all of us quite similar to before being banded only I eat a much smaller portion. I also may make it a little more healthier. I can eat pretty much anything..I haven't tried steak..but..last night we had BBQ Chicken, tator tots, green beans. I had..2 oz of chkn, 1/4 cup of green beens and 3 tator tots and was full. My family was thrilled and they were able to put on more BBQ sauce if they wanted..mine had the flavor on it. I also have found some different recipes that we have tried..we vote on them..some we make again..others we don't. I hope this helps!! If you ever want to talk you can reach me at dsmith16@tampabay.rr.com

November 09 Knockouts! Check in here POST surgery! :)

Soexcited - I'm totally with you! I only had to do one week of pre op and lost 9 pounds. Since surgery (2 weeks tomorrow) I have only lost 6. Well 6 one day. 4 the next. I have been going up and down 1-2 pounds for past week. I realize I have added mushies, but I am still eating under 900 calories a day and exercising.... so I'm not sure why I'm not losing. This is my typical day: 8 AM: Protein shake (160 cal, 15 gr protein) 11AM: 1/4 cup canned chicken w sprinkle shredded cheese or 1/4 cup chili (120 cal, 10-15 gr protein) 3PM: Protein Shake (160 cal, 15 gr protein) 6PM: 1/4 chili or 1/4 cup canned salmon (80-120 cal, 8-10 gr protein) 9PM: protein shake (160 cal, 15 gr protein) That's 710 calories and 60-70 gr of protein. I may have a 1/2 cup of oatmeal or yogurt on mornings when the shake doesnt "do it" for me, so maybe an additional 50 calories.... I think I'm going to email the nurtritionist and see what's going on. Maybe I need to UP my calories....
  21. Hi Happy! I have 4.5cc's in my 10cc band now. How about you? how many cc's do you have? I got my 2nd fill just this last Monday and have done OK the last 3 days I have not been feeling hungry till around 2 or 3pm today I had a yogurt for breakfast, a iceopure for a snack, about 4 oz of turkey meatloaf for lunch a stick of 60cal cheese for a snack and then for dinner I had chicken & cottage cheese. How are your food days? What are you eating? My problem is STILL night...candy still just slides on down!
  22. Take a cooler and I would opt for hard boiled eggs, cottage cheese, ready to drink shakes, cheese, greek yogurt, meats and some crackers. You are too fresh out for things like protein bars. ALso try Fast food burgers(no bun), KFC grilled chicken and mashed potatoes, Grilled chicken and refreid beans from any mexican place. Wendy's chili or their grilled chicken wrap (ditch the tortilla) There are lots of choices. You should be able to find something almost anywhere. Also McDonalds will sell you scrambled eggs ala carte. That with a half of an english muffin (extra toasted) is a really good breakfast. Fruits and veggies probably still give you some problems so I would stay away from those. Also have some Gas-X (or the store brand equivalent) on hand for in the car when your stomach gets gurgley.

    August surgery ppl

My surgery was 8/22, and also included the repair of a huge hiatal hernia. (Huge is the clinical term...I thought they were trying to justify the extra 90 minutes and $16k.) I had some rough pain after surgery, spent three nights in the hospital, and stopped taking pain pills on day six. I tolerate liquids ok, though feel like there’s a traffic jam in the middle of my chest when I swallow anything - even water. On day 7 or 8 (Days have blurred.) I got a wicked rash across my torso and right arm. I’m fairly certain the rash is an allergic reaction to the antiseptic soap they sent home to wash my incisions. I think mostly to keep me sedated, and thus not an inconvenience over the holiday weekend, the Rx for the rash was 200 mg of Benydryl every 4 hours. I spent the last 3 days as a zombie - sleeping so much that I’m afraid I’m now dehydrated. I’d go to the ER, but, since my own doctor’s office doesn’t seem to listen to me, I’m afraid they won’t listen to me, either. I’m feeling panicky... I’m supposed to return to work on the 12th, and I’m only tolerating applesauce and yogurt, and I’m so weak, I can’t begin to describe it.

    Question

Hello Everyone, I have a question hope someone can help. I have my sleeve on the 23rd I will be on liquids for 2 weeks. One of things my doctor said to get is fat free & sugar free yogurt. I have not been able to find any. Does anyone know of any fat free & sugar free yogurt? Thanks Patty
  25. Oregondaisy

1 Year Out An Its Not Good.

Do you have any idea what size your sleeve is? I am 3 years out and there is no way I can eat 6-8 oz. I get mad sometimes because I can eat a lot more now than I could at one year. I can eat 8 oz of yogurt, but no way could I eat an 6-8 oz steak. Even though your sleeve seems to be on the larger size, you can still do your part by making sure your carbs are healthy carbs from vegetables and not white carbs such as rice and Pasta. The Protein you eat should be lean protein. Tracking it all on a site such as myfitnesspal, like everyone suggests, should show you exactly how many carbs and calories you're consuming. Good luck. You can do this!
