I kept one outfit. Put it on a couple weeks ago ad had a good laugh. Man oh man that was ugly.
  2. Pre-op hair guy here ???? I asked this same question a few weeks ago and would like to hear more suggestions myself.. Good luck on your journey..
  3. Hello, this is my first time posting, so hopefully I'm doing it right. I was just banded on 12/3 and get my first fill on 1/14, next week. Has anyone joined weight watchers or felt they needed more support? I feel I need as much support as possible right now and was thinking about joining ww, but wasn't sure if it would help, being banded and all. Any advice or suggestions?? Kristy

    Nsv: Sleeve More Tolerant!

Hi Rachel: My plan said I could eat solid food at 5 weeks out--had a week of clears, 2 weeks of full liquids, and 2 weeks of mushies/softs. I stayed on mushies/softs for a while because I had big problems with acid, and texture was a big deal for me. You'll be able to tell you're full through a couple of signals, and those differ with different people. Personally, I know when I feel like I need to burp and almost can't, I'm full. Also, my nose runs. Strange, isn't it, but I know other people on this forum have the same symptoms. You will definitely feel the sleeve's restriction when you're able to eat more "regular" food. At this point, my plan says I can eat whatever I can tolerate, keeping in mind my continuing weight-loss goals. I don't typically eat sweets (despite the last two days' lunch desserts!). I aim for Protein foods (Beans, cheese, milk, shrimp/scallops, nuts) and bites of veggies/salad. Really, the only foods I avoid are those that my sleeve doesn't seem to like: beef and chicken, although I "can" eat those in certain forms, raw onions, pasta/bread/flour products, excess sugar, fried stuff--just can't seem to handle the grease. Eating got a lot easier lately; I really feel like our sleeves hit a point where they kind of chill out--I still most definitely have restriction and can only eat around 1/4 to 1/2 c. at a time by volume (and that volume depends on the type of food)--a little more liquid volume if I take it slow. But I definitely get full and get that sensation of food that isn't quite all the way down if I take one bite too many (and I HATE that feeling!). I tend to try to undereat my sleeve, trying to stop when I'm not hungry as opposed to when I'm full--there's a big difference there. You'll do fine. Listen to your body and pay attention to measuring for a while. I still use my 1/2 c. containers every day, because I can't "eyeball" volumes very well, so it's easy for me to overdo by a bite or two, and then I'm in pain and feel icky. Best wishes!!

    Nsv: Sleeve More Tolerant!

May I ask you a few questions... since you are 8 months out? I recently had the sleeve done... I am in my second week of recovery. How long was it before you could eat regular solid food? I was wondering how you tell when you are full? How much you can eat at a time? And what types of foods you can eat regularly? Thanks, Rachel

    Question, not enough calories?

At a month post op you're only supposed to be walking, and as long as your Protein is up you're fine and you'll lose, lose, lose which is kinda the purpose. Protein up, calories down is the way this works, let us know how you progress, and at 4 weeks no move to solids yet? That will give you more caloric intake as well, unless you're restricted from solids I would make that move.
  7. I feel as if I'm able to eat more now and afraid I'm eating too much. I'm tracking on my fitness pal as best as I can but I'm at a stall for almost 2 weeks and worry of gaining

    Frustrating!!!

Most restaurants have chicken, fish , veggies and baked potatoes. Even if it's not on the menus ask your server. I do it all the time. When the meal comes I ask for a second plate and cut 3oz of my meat, half of a baked potato and remove it from my plate.... Then I enjoy my meal. I ate out once or twice a week during the past 2 years... It can be done but you need to stay away from the bread.good luck

    I need a good challenge

Well, i got my Firm express dvd's last week and they are great but kicking my butt!!!!!! I really like that they are only 20 min workouts and once you get started they keep you motivated and before you know it i was done with my workout!!!! If anyone has the dvd's please let me know what you think, or if we can create a challenge for ourselves!!! As you my know i am only 9 lbs away from my dr's goal, and these are the hardest lbs to get off. So if there is any one who is doing any excercise challenges please let me know also. Let me know!

    Drinking and eating

I know it's driving me crazy. I'm truly hoping that body gets comfy sometime soon. I'm really not trying to lose weight, and I'll hold steady for a 2-3 weeks and wake up to a mysterious 3-4 pound loss. It's getting frustrating, and I know it's all about finding the right balance. Having the gb out kind through me for another loop, and couple that with the chest cold and mucus issue, just kind of set me up for a loss. I'm hoping to hold steady right where I'm at currently. I never imagined saying "umm can I please stop losing weight? LIKE now."
  11. jumped on the scale this morning and last weeks loss is this weeks gain! Please don't let this be failure looming??

    10-3-2007

I didn't get to ride my bike today....yet. I might try to get it in after hubby goes to bed. I still don't like exercising in front of him. It was a pretty good day. I'm pretty used to not eating much now. In some ways I can see how being on this pre-op diet can be beneficial. Not just because of the weight loss but that when I am banded I'm already used to not eating hardly anything. Here's what I had today: (typical of everyday) whey protein shake 2scoops in 8oz slim milk 2 slimfast shakes (I'm allowed 3 a day but lately have only been drinking 2) 1 1/2 cups broccoli 1 cup butternut squash soup (90 cals) 1 1/2 cups stir fry veggies 1 diet Dr. Pepper That's around 1200 cals. And I'm really not hungry. The first few days of this pre-op diet I ate like three times as many veggies but not anymore. I'm actually not supposed to have soup but I've been eating progresso's hearty tomato and tried this organic squash soup. The squash soup is pretty nasty. I like squash. I've eaten a lot of it the past two weeks but the soup just wasn't right. It smelled like pumpkin pie and tasted like onion, garlic squash. It messed with my senses. I am so ready for my surgery date. Not much longer. I am on the downhill side now at least. Well, Goodnight. Hope everyone is doing good on their journeys!
  13. FAT if you don't...so they say! Well I have been stuck at this freakin' plateau for at least 2 months! So I decided to start exercising, because after all with diet and exercise you should loose weight. Right? Well I have been going to the park walking and jogging...yes me jogging, panting, sweating, dying, and jogging. I have been jumping on the scale and guess what. It ain't loosong no weight. To be honest I can't say inches either. So this is my thought process, if I sit around and not loose any weight, why work out. I think that I may be the sorriest excuse for a bandster. I am almost a year out and I have a grand total loss of 45 pounds. I must admit that I have not been following the bandster guidelines to the "T" but I am restricted enough that the only thing that I can get down that's bad is star buck frappacinos, milk shakes, and ice cream; which I don't indulgen in that often. What is the deal!!!!!!!! I am getting so discouraged! Well let me back up. I have been doing the walking, running, jogging thing for about 2 weeks. Out of two weeks I have exercised 9 days. Does anyone have any suggestions. I am getting desperate. I am ready for the weight loss phase to be over....I am ready to move on to "maintain". I am open to any suggestions! :cry

Thoughs on Living with the Band

I think one of the biggest changes that I am going to have to go through is how to live with the band. Not just in my change in diet and exercise but the change in my overall life. For example Friday at work two people brought in food for everyone here. Donuts and begals were served up for everyone to enjoy and get fat on. Then again today another person brought in left over cake from the holiday weekend. Sure it's easy to say I won't have any but it's really setting the mind so you don't even have to think about having some or not. Even beyond that I start thinking about life in general. For instance a few weeks ago we had some friends over for a BBQ. The was the main focus of the time was eating. Chips and dips before the main course. Then the main course and then desert after that. Why couldn't we have just invited them over for a pool party or to play cards or watch a movie or even just to have time to sit and visit with each other? The answer really is we could have. Going a step further is learning how to act in an environment where I will be asked to go out to lunch or dinner with friends. This I think is going to be one of the biggest changes to go through. I was talking with my sister inlaw over the weekend and she was talking about how they have some friends that the husband had gastric by-pass and now he hates going out to eat. He makes it very vocal about how he doesn't want to go out to eat. I can see both sides but I think that's where I say you have to learn how to approach your friends with doing something other then living life based around food. So now I start thinking about what can I do to say lets do something other then food. What are suggestions I can make to my friends for other things we can do. Over the weekend we went to my inlaws. Living in Florida it's common to get out a lot of course because of good weather. But this past holiday weekend it was not good weather. So it was like the family was lost so it turned into an eating feast weekend. I don't think that anyone really knew how to handle the weather or what you could do instead of the outdoor activites. It's a mind set on life that has to be changed.

A Scale Whore Sees Results after a Plateau

On Monday (March 9, '09) I went back to Dr. Baptista and had my first fill, because last time I didn't need one. This time I did. I'd only lost 5 pounds, and that annoyed the heck out of me. I was glad doc gave me 4cc's, though I wasn't sure that would be enough. I realize my viewpoint might be a bit skewed, though. Someone so desperate to lose weight permanently as to have surgery might not be too objective. I wouldn't be happy unless I was throwing up everything but liquids, then went back and had doc remove 1cc. Yeah, that's a little extreme. Still, I waited until today to assess how the fill has helped me. Scale Whore that I am, I still checked every morning, but today I saw the number drop to below where it had been for two weeks. It hovered right between 242 and 243, so I'll wait to adjust my ticker until I'm sure. I'd like to be below 240 by the end of March, and down by ten pound increments each month. That's possible without being extreme. I hope. I'm trying desperately not to set myself up for failure by making my expectations too high or unreasonable. Ten pounds a month seems like a goal that requires a bit of effort but is still within reach. What do you think?

Good News/Bad News --Unexpected Hospital Visit

Advice from an old fart of 49: Never, ever EVER say the words, "chest" and "pain" in the same sentence, or you're risking a minimum of four days in the hospital if you use them in the same paragraph. (grumble) In these days of CYA, doctors will automatically consider you a pincushion and a guinea pig for every test known to God and man, just to make sure they don't get sued. And this was an efficient military hospital. I'm quite literally black and blue on both arms, both sides of my neck, both legs, and my belly. I'm not kidding. I look like a hideous science experiment. Because of all the tests they wanted to run I literally never got a breakfast, and sometimes didn't get lunch. I've lost five pounds, have sores from an allergic reaction to the adhesives in the EKG pads all over my torso, and until last night I hadn't had more than three hours of sleep at a stretch. If I hadn't been in the habit of exercising three times a week, I doubt I would have survived that damned nuclear stress tess and I'd still be tethered to an ICU bed by a Mongolian cluster f*ck of wires. Thank all the gods for nurses and Navy corpsmen. They are angels of mercy, kind when they can be, and quick when they can't be. Two, Greg and Naomi, will be characters in my books because they earned immortality in a positive way. Both Greg and Naomi went out of their way to be as kind as possible, even bending a few rules for my comfort. Diagnosis: erratic angina. Translation: We have no idea why her chest hurt. The good news came yesterday. My DH and I both got interview phone calls. DH went to his almost immediately, and was called back for a second interview on Monday! Whoopee! My interview is tomorrow. If I'm very, very lucky, I might be the Trend Teacher at my local JoAnn Fabrics store! (Yes, BG! I get to show off all my craft skills. LOL!) Good thing I lost those extra five pounds. I'm proud of the way I look, now!

BG will be proud of me...

I got the job!! I sailed in earlier, lugging my demo stuff (without sweating like a pig, I might add), gave a clear example of some of my skills, smiled when she complimented my lovely (and three sizes smaller) outfit, and proposed new classes to the Education Manager. Her jaw hit the floor at the sheer number of things I can do, and when I proved I could even handle teen projects called Urban Threads, she was thrilled. I was hired on the spot. My first demonstration of Punch Needle Embroidery is this coming Saturday, with a small side of Wood Burning Plaques for fun. One plaque of a Chinese Junk is done. One adorable punched Teddy Bear tote originally made for my grandson is done, and the punched butterfly for my granddaughter could be done tomorrow. Those will go on display to show what the class teaches. I'll just demonstrate Punch Needle Embroidery for three hours and take names of those interested in taking the class. What's even the best part is I'm not technically a JoAnn Fabrics employee, so I can wear my beautifully crafted and embroidered clothes to show off not only my skills to entice students, but also my new figure! I'm a sub-contractor, and I'm used to that particular business structure and tax system. Hehehe!! This is going to be such fun! Thanks for the encouragement, BG!

    Week 23 Post Op

It's been a good week. I stepped on the scale this morning and really could not remember what I weighed last week. So I got my weight and figured I would look at my blog to see how much I had lost in the last week. To my surprise I lost 4 pounds. This last week I have been going for a power walk in the mornings. I also have been watching my food a little closer and not eating as much between meals. I know I am suppose to have 4 small meals a day but it's hard to make that work and so I think I was snacking more then actually planning the 4th meal out. The power walks in the morning are so refreshing. They really help me wake up and get my day started. Unfortunately today I won't be doing my walk. I have been hit pretty hard with allergies or a cold and am staying home from work today too. So I guess I should get to the totals This week 4 pound lost Current Weight - 372 lbs Loss Since Surgery - 70 lbs (23 weeks) Total Weight Loss - 113 lbs

going good but about to put in overdrive

Wow. you lost 70lbs in two months. What have you been doing to keep from stalling? I have only lost 54 in two months. I keep stalling!

    Bread

Tortilla, wraps, and wonton wrappers. I am 11 weeks out and I have had bread and it doesn't make me sick. I just make other choices since I get full really quick. I can't eat all of my protein if I have it. I would only eat a little and see how you feel.

    Body Image Issues

Absolutely! I’ve lost over 100lbs now and my brain can’t figure it out. I swear I don’t *feel* like I look any different than I did 50 lbs ago. But I know that’s not true. One of my friends saw me last weekend, squealed, and used the word “skinny”. And today I noticed that my leggings were getting saggy in the butt, and I know they fit perfectly well just a week ago. Judging by the scale and my baggy clothes my weight loss is completely on schedule. It’s like my brain is glitching. I’m pleased and happy with my weight loss. Now my brain needs to stop being an a**hole and catch up! 🤣🤣🤣

    Wuzzzupp

Hey guys. I haven't been around too much lately...and I just wanted to stop in and tell you all that Im thinking of you all. Life has gotten so busy. I am still in the process of moving out of my apartment. My mothers house is a wreck and shes pulling her hair out. But we all have a new life to adjust to here~ That job that I thought I had a few weeks ago never panned out. They told me that they were having problems with their phone lines and they would call me with a start date, and well, they never called. So I called them, and the lady that was to be my "boss" never called me back~ Sooooo that translated to me that they were trying out another girl and if she sucked then they would call me in...Their loss~ But now its back to the grind....Gotta find a job!! I haven't been too bad with my lap band life either. I have been sticking to and following most of the rules. I have a hard time getting in my vitamins and water....but my stomach is usually upset or very restricted to eat much or drink much...it tightens with stress... I haven't been exercising other than the moving stuff.....and I haven't weighed in in about three weeks. I have a doctors appointment coming up at the end of this month...I just may wait until then to get weighed....my scale is a big liar anyways~ And finally, there was a big holiday party that was held by my surgeon and the associates that he works with. It was gorgious and I had such a good time. Everyone that had surgery up to a certain date was invited....the first patient that he ever performed surgery on was there, the hospital staff that takes care of all his patients was there, the administrators from the hospital was there.....There was about 400 attendees all together. It was at a country club and everyone was dressed sooooo nice!!! I went with a couple of other lap band buddies that I have made along the way and had an excellent time~ I had to leave early to go pick up my son, and I went right to the apartment in my party dress~~~ My husband looked me up and down and up and down and quicked looked away! The next day he called me to check on our son, and said, You looked very pretty last night! My teeth almost fell out of my head...but hey, he noticed and I said, YES I DID! And its only going to get better!!! Im going to try and attach a photo that I took with my web cam.....in the move I screwed something up on my computer so the colors aren't right, so forgive me if the photo isn't the best...it looks pretty good to me Okay all...I hope to talk with you all soon~~~~
  25. I was wondering when and how often should I be getting a fill? I had my first fill last month around this time and it was wonderful, but have started to notice this past week that: 1. I'm not losing weight. 2. I get hungry quick (with in 2 hours). 3. I'm not losing weight. So I was thinking that I may need another fill. But is it common for the fill to "wear off" with in a matter of weeks or months? I have a small band only 4cc's and am at a fill level of 3cc right now, I sure hope that if I get another fill it will help me lose weight and feel satisfied for longer. I can still eat 1-1 1/2 cups of food at a meal. And was told that with proper restriction I should not be eating that much. Thanks everyone for you help. Here is a sample of what I eat during the day: Breakfast: 1 whole bagel with cream cheese 8-16 oz of coffee with creamer Lunch: 1 whole sandwitch with mayo, turkey ham (3 slices), lettuce, tomato 1 fruit 1 small bag of chips Dinner: 1 piece of chicken or other kind of meat 1 cup rice, or some other kind of starch 1 cup of steamed veggies Snack: nuts ( haven't measured how much) I know it's not the best menu so any assistance with it will also be appreciated
