    Softs Go To Foods

I found a good quality supermarket that did mini meals. I liked the minced meat and gravy topped with mashed potato. Fish pie and a mild minced meat curry and rice. There was plenty of protein in them. I also made a tummy friendly Moussaka with baked aubergine instead of fried. I make a lot of soup, big soup fans. Mushroom with added bacon, blitzed at the end with extra cheese and or a light cream. Pea soup or carrot, sweet potato and red lentil are also great because they are good and thick when blitzed and full of protein. As you can tell I had my surgery in our winter months and needed warming foods. I was allowed melba toast and cream cheese, pate or peanut butter. I had a ton of protein yogurts, soft scrambled and boiled egg, tuna mayo. Good luck with finding suitable foods, it is a bit of a head scratcher in the early days

    Best way to get protein

At almost 2 years out I can almost eat anything. Some meals are always the same. Breakfast is always Greek yogurt and berries. My lunch is usually a bit like pick and mix - a bit of a few things, Which could be a selection of these, Smoked salmon, deli meats, burrata, cashew nuts, walnuts, blue stinky cheese, any fruit, tuna, boiled egg or any left over from a previous meal. The evening meal is usually food cooked from scratch for the family with carbs that I can not fit in my stomach yet, casseroles, roasts, pies, stews. I eat what I can. Later in the day I either eat my meals, left overs or have a protein bar or a protein yogurt. My protein is about 80 grams a day now and my calories are between 1200 and 1500

    Venison And Elk Meat..

marinading these meats are important....They are very lean and dry out fast...Cook as you would a roast but not as long....there are many marinades out there for beef...You can use onion Soup mix, yogurt garlic and thyme....The sauce makes a great gravy! My son bagged a moose 2 years ago and we ate a lot of moose meat.....using the slow cooker was a life saver....

    Help....please

I second the food tracking. I've read that tracking your food is one of the best ways to stay on course because you can clearly see if you start getting off course. Although it sounds like you don't really have a course, which sucks. I am not a doctor or medical professional in any way, but I can tell you what my plan is and maybe you can adjust it to suit your needs. I'm 3 months post-op, have lost 62 pounds, and am eating between 800 and 1,000 calories a day. I aim for 80 to 100 grams of Protein and no more than 40 to 60 grams of carbs. I try to avoid sugar and simple carbs like white rice, white bread, potatoes, etc. I don't really track fat, but I do stick with low fat in things like cheese because the low fat seems to have more protein. I typically have a premier Protein shake for Breakfast around 7, a snack like a boiled egg or 1/2 cup of cottage cheese around 10, lunch like chicken salad or lunch meat and cheese around 1, a light greek yogurt around 4, dinner like baked fish and steamed veggies around 7, then a small snack before bed that I usually choose based on whether I need more calories or protein or what by that point in the day. I do not drink carbonated beverages or alcohol, and I try to avoid what I call empty eating, like sugar free pudding, which may not be bad for you but also don't really offer you anything. After meeting with a personal trainer to plan a workout routine, here's what I do. 3 to 4 days a week, I spend 30 minutes on the treadmill or bike and 30 minutes doing the gym's circuit training. Then 2 or 3 days a week, I do some relatively light weight training. I hope this helps. If you want, feel free to private message me and I'll do my best to give you whatever answers I may have.

    Sauces to try...

@@Trayjay33 I buy one of the non fat 100 calorie Greek yogurts. Aldi has one that is good and inexpensive. The mustard was spicy southwestern from Wal-Mart (their brand) I buy a lot of shredded deli chicken and mix up the tastes with the sauces. The Greek yogurt adds to the Protein total too!

    Sauces to try...

I have been making a sauce out of Greek yogurt and buffalo sauce ( we have a local one in St Louis that is delicious - low carb, low sugar and low fat to boot!) It is delicious. I also found a Southwest mustard that is really good too.
  7. I can totally relate. I'm 8 days post-op today and have struggled with variety. My MD told me that during the 2 weeks of full liquids you can have anything that you could potentially drink through a straw (but you don't use a straw). So I have made: smoothies with 4 strawberries, 1/2 a banana, 1/2 cup cottage cheese, 1/4 cup Greek yogurt and 1 choc premiere shake or just by itself without the premier shake. I have made cream of chicken soup. I have had cream of rice mixed to a thin mixture with Trader Joes strawberry smoothie. I'm sure you could also try other cream soups as well. I eat a couple of popsicles a day. I personally don't eat the sugar free ones because they have Aspartame and the calories are not that different if you ask me. Trader Joes has a fabulous Red Pepper soup and other soups such as butternut squash and carrot. Just some ideas. Hope it helps. Good luck. I'm also looking forward to pureed foods so I can have even more variety.

    Started at 29 BMI

Wow Im so happy I found this forum and topic!! Im a 30 BMI 5’ 3 170 and have dieted since I was 12. A few years ago I reached my highest weight ever of 229 but that was pregnant. my skin has been stretched out terrible. I lost 70lbs after losing the baby weight of 29lbs. So I got down to 130. But of course Im back up again. My pre diabetes keeps coming and going depending on my current weight. I honestly can’t handle it anymore. I eat 80 percent paleo not sugar or breads. No soda. I mean CLEAN!! But the scale keeps creeping up. I can’t work out like I use to do some health issues and joint pain. I don’t dare tell anyone because of the shame I feel about getting this done. I wanted to be a health coach and now Im having surgery. Its hard to explain. No one knows but my husband. So I have you guys to talk too. Im headed to Mexico next month to have surgery with Dr. Ponce at INT. Any advice on pre op and post op would be most appreciated. Im afraid of getting hypoglycemia after surgery. Also will I be able to work out hard like running and stay hydrated down the road? Im worried about throwing up and having acid reflex the rest of my life and regretting my decision. My doctor wants me to do 3 days before surgery of just yogurt and water. Is that really necessary? Also 10 days liquids. That freaks me out!!

    Late December Sleevers?

I am on Stage 2 as well.. 7 days out very small bites, 1 oz of Greek yogurt. couple bites of egg.. I tried a protein shake, 2 oz and I was too full. No nausea or up chucking but just can’t finish anything.. 20oz of water so far.. Anybody else feeling so full all the time???

    Late December Sleevers?

I’m also experiencing the same. Surgery was on 12/27 and I was approved to start soft solids this week. I thought I was doing pretty good as I eat an entire Greek yogurt everyday for breakfast without any problems, but I experience the chest pain, nausea and vomiting after eating soft solids. Even when I try to belch I end up throwing up. Now I’m experiencing acid reflux from all the throwing up. Today I had bad reflux and ate 2 spoons of yogurt to try to coat my stomach, but I ended up throwing that up as well. I think the trick may be taking breaks after a couple of bites to give it time to digest. When I do this I’m able to keep the food down.

    Peanut Butter

I felt sick after PB for nearly a month. If you can do yogurt you could probably do PB. Eat it super slowly. At 2 weeks I was released for soft foods. What does your plan say?

    Purée ideas

If you can make it, you can puree it. Personally, I've been surviving mostly on greek yogurt, flavored-up cottage cheese, scrambled eggs with cheese, pureed super-spicy chicken taco meat, and refried Beans.
  14. Not a problem at all! I'm glad you got some sleep. I haven't slept well in days either. Not good for either of us It seems everyone's preop diet is slightly different. Mine consists of 6 glucerna (I begged to use Atkins instead), 2 no fat or low fat yogurts with sugar substitute, 2 8oz servings of 100%juice, and all of the sf no calorie drinks i want up to the day before surgery. The day before surgery is nothing but clears. I am so allowed sf Jello during my preop.
  15. There is a clear liquid Protein broth from unjury called chicken Soup and it REALLY good.. BTW you can eat this one warm, and it taste EXACTLY like how you would want homemade chicken soup to taste. Try these flavors too. If you like chocolate try Syntrax's nectar in Chocolate Truffle. With Water it tastes like a YooHoo, with milk it tastes like a Wendy's milkshake. I also have The Nectar in Vanilla Bean torte (23gm protein) and I mix it up with 2 oz of blueberry kefir and 4 oz of milk (9gm protein). Kefir is 99% lactose free and has just as much protein as milk. If you like fruit juices try Unjury's strawberry Sorbet. Mix it with water, lemonade, or milk and yogurt (strawberry cheesecake). I have made this one so many ways even into ice pops! Of course all of these items are 0 carb and 0 fat too. You can get all of these in sample form the Vitamin Shoppe and Unjury.com Looking for sleeve & bypass recipes from someone who actually had it AND tastes YUMMY?… go here… http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/

    Carb Frustration! Help!

Not sure if that question is to me, but I'll answer just in case. Basically, I can only eat a few ounces at a time. My meals I eat mainly protein which is basically carb free and then I snack on cheeses and I consider cottage cheese mixed with Greek yogurt as dessert. Like I said though, I can't eat much at all so sometimes it's just a few bites and I have to come back to it for a snack. I don't have hunger or cravings or I'd eat other things I'm sure. So far I've lost my appetite for sweets.. Including ice cream, which I would eat by the tub full.

    What Damage Have I Done?

Every doctors plan is different. When I come home I will be on full liquids which includes the yogurt and milk but not the ricotta. Are you on full liquids or only the protein shakes?

4 months post op, how much can you eat?

4 1/2 months out. Examples of things I can eat in a single sitting so that I am satisfied but not full..... 1 egg with no more than 1 tbls meat or cheese added 1 Chobani flip yogurt 1" x 1" chunk of pork loin with 1 brussel sprout and 1 piece of yellow squash 1 Natures Valley Protein bar 1/4 can of tuna or crab with a bit of mayo 10-15 mixed nuts 1/2 of a 1/4 lb burger no bun 1/2 avocado 1/4 cup refried Beans 1/3 can Soup cheese stick wrapped in a piece of thin sliced deli meat 1/3 apple with 2 tbls PB2 I drink at least 1 large (20-32oz/35-40g protein) everyday. I often blend 1/2 banana in my shake and try to nibble on some fruit and veggies at least once/day....blueberries, apples, spinach, squash, green beans, edamame, and V8 juice are go to's. Haven't had bread, Pasta, or rice, but I have had a bite or two of chocolate cake, ice cream and tiramisu. Also had 1/2 glass wine on 2 occasions and 1/2 Bloody Mary.

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

We all have such different programs. For me, it's the following: 1 week of clear liquids 7 days total 2 weeks full liquids which allows me to add yogurt, cream soups, and apples (with 30 mins gaps for water) 14 days total 3 weeks soft or what I guess you guys call purree (with 30 mins gaps for water) 21 days total So, for each stage, it increases in duration (one week long, 2 weeks long, 3 weeks long) Then at 6 weeks post surgery, full foods with certain requirements and at the size limits set and 30 mins before and after water

    How do you stay healthy?!?!

Thanks for the advice. I usually do try to mix it up but I was just giving her a generic run down of what I was having yesterday! I do mix turkey instead of chicken and tuna. But, for me, just so that I do eat Breakfast, I stick with the yogurt or eggs. Nothing else stays down. So, that I don't skip, I change flavors of the yogurt and Protein. That's all the variety I can take right now. Any other suggestions for a breakfast that will stay down or that will go down? Bars are a no go. oatmeal made me vomit before banding, I can only imagine now. I do work and need it to be quick as I'm on the road by 6:30 am.
  22. As for the shakes, I like the Syntrax Nectar ones. They are in powder form but taste very good. There are a bunch of flavors from strawberry kiwi, cherry, roadside lemonade, ice tea, chocolate truffle to name a few. They make great smoothies, just add some fruit and/or yogurt and you're good to go. I have not tried any of the ready prepared brands, but have heard that muscle milk light is pretty good. Good luck.

    Just Banded 2/26

I had the same problem...I added a small amount of out meal...about 1/4 cup and also added a non fat Greek yogurt to my protein shakes and started to feel much better....I was so hungry that the acid in my stomach was making me nauseous...I had a head ache from grinding my teeth and you can just imagine the mood I was in. I knew I needed to do something...just work slow, chew often and give it a go...I had oatmeal 6days after surgery...I had too

    Cottage Cheese pouch test

Yep, I did it at about 18 months out, and the results were 4.9oz max capacity in 4 minutes 34 seconds before I felt like I was going to upchuck that One last bite. I've also done it with the Yoplait Thick N Creamy yogurt and could only get in 5oz in 5 minutes without feeling like I wanted to vomit. I burped up some of the cottage cheese because of how fast I ate(at least that's what I figured it was from).

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

@BluesLily: None whatsoever. I tried eggs, no problem. Second time, cramps galore. Cottage cheese, first time, crazy pain. Second time ok until half way through. Pain with peaches. Pain with Greek yogurt, but not light yogurt. Fine with Tofu, until halfway through second portion. It’s random and VERY painful.
