  1. I had my surgery 2/18/2014. I have been stalling for the last 4 weeks. I'm down 42 pounds since surgery. Has anyone else stalled this long before? What should I do?

    I got my nails done

I should had went earlier but I was wasting time, but parking was a bitch. Oh well I got my nails done, and I wanted to do my toes, but guess what? It was almost 3pm and kids start coming from the bus at 3:15pm and even if I wanted to do my toes. I didn't realized I only had $7 left lmbo... I'm going to have to wait till Thursday that's when I get money to then go Friday, and get my toes done. I'm not driving to the nail salon to get my toes done. Waste gas and quarters on the meter. Now for nails I drive it's $15.00 with design, and all. Around my block it's $25.00 with design, and oh yeah I must have a design. So that's $10.00 I can pocket.
  3. :001_smile:I am penciled in for July 13th with my surgeon, Dr. Mitchell Roslin at Lenox Hill Hospital here in NY. At this point I am just waiting for final insurance company approval which I hope to have this week. I've been a little frustrated with the process, but that seems mainly to be because I think the surgical coordinator in Dr. Roslin's office is relatively new and I am not so sure she knows what she is doing. Anyway, some of you may remember me from my introduction. I am 44 and the widowed father of three kids 15, 10 and 9. I've battled my weight my whole life, but gained about 25-30 pounds in the last few years as I coped with my wife's illness, death and the aftermath of all that. The good news is that I've told the kids and they are 100% supportive of my decision to have this surgery which is important to me as I really feel that I am doing this for ALL of us. Anyway, I'll keep you posted. Thanks to all of you, especially you Tiffykins, for being such a great source of information, support and inspiration. Brian

    Other Canadians?

I have been ok with hydrating myself I sip water all day when I go to a party I treat myself to a crystal lite. I also drink 1-2 cups of coffee a day I started that 6 wks after surgery. 'Forever' manicure is my term for keeping up the upkeep on gel nails ( filling them every few weeks). If I get them done here in town they are $35, in winnipeg there are lots of shops run by Asians where it's only $25 for a manicure or pedicure. That's a lot cheaper then $110!!

    2 more days till surgery.

I think all of us with our surgery dates this week (I'm on the 10th) are both getting nervous and doing a lot of thinking right now. About how we got here and about what the future is about to bring us. I have decided that I will use the things that brought me here as life lessons (hopefully) learned. To take the positive and carry it forward and leave the negative behind. Not forget it but to learn from it and forgive myself for it. As for the future, beyond the nerves, I'm getting excited! As my GYN told me earlier this year when I told her I was having WLS, I'm taking my health back. Not many people will take the steps needed to do that. But I am! So I have decided, no more shame about being fat. Just some self pride that I'm willing to fight back against the circumstances that have run my life for too long. I will no longer dwell on the past but look toward the future.
  6. So I've been thinking all week about this LAP-BAND® thing. I've really psyched myself out! I'm going to the initial information session on Wednesday, May 12. I'm required to go to this information session before the surgeon will have a consult with me. Once I have my consult, I can start workng on the stuff I need to do to get my approval. It's a three month multi-disiplinary process I have to go through before the surgery. I'm so READY to get this process started! I'm 115 pounds over weight for a normal BMI. My husband doesn't want me to loose that much. I'm just ready to get started and see this through... I guess the journey starts here. My initial thoughts...I hope this show lasts!
  7. I am counting down the days and starting my pre op diet tomorrow. If I can shrink my liver even more than what they want. Maybe I am doing something good. I have been at the gym everyday for the last 2 1/2 weeks morning and night. I have been doing Hip adduction/abduction machines. I walk the treadmill while listening to music. Excited Dave
  8. Hi! My name is Ashley and I just had my sleeve procedure done December 17th, 2010. I researched the sleeve since March, but now I am having a few issues that I do not remember reading about and I want to know if they are normal. First, HEARTBURN! I have never had chronic heartburn, but this almost constant burning in the back of my throat is so annoying! I have been taking Zantac and it relieves it for a couple of hours but it returns. I guess I need to try Prilosec, but I'm just wondering if anyone had this issue and if it gets better. Secondly, I cannot get any meat down. No matter how much I chew it, it will not go all the way down and I end up throwing it right back up. I'm scared I will never be able to eat normal foods again or that maybe my opening to my stomach is not big enough. Any advice? Thanks!

    2 weeks post op

I agree with Pamela...2 weeks is way too soon (in my opinion) to be trying to eat meat. I was still on "mushies" at 2 weeks and when I did start to eat meat, it was to be supersoft, like the consistency of tuna (actually tuna is a great first meat to try if you like it.) But again, I think you are trying the meat way too soon. You need to let your stomach heal and the subsequent vomiting isn't a good thing to be doing either. I do realize that every surgeon is different and yours may allow meat this early but I would take the vomiting as a sign that you physically are not ready for it yet. I have not suffered from heartburn before or after surgery, so no advice there, but from reading this board, I know a lot of people suffer from it and there are a variety of ways to deal with it. You are definitely not alone.
  10. Can someone please tell me why some have the pre-op diet and some don't? Does the dr's know how big your liver is before the surgery? I'm just curious...I'm getting band in the morning and I'm excited as ever!

    2 Weeks!

Hi guys, I'm new to the site too & got my notice today that my surgery is in 2 weeks too, so I get to join you down here in New Zealand, on the "delicious" liquid diet. What fun! Cheers, Cate (also 41 )
  12. 2 weeks post op> My stomach is still bloated. I am HUNGRY and I feel like my hunger pains are very painful. Advise please
  13. Hi, these 2 weeks has been very different, and taking some time to getting use to. Learning to eat has never been so difficult and once you intake the small portion you realize oooh my I can't eat anymore. I wasn't sure if I couldn't take no more or I didn't want anymore lol. I'm now on a full liquid diet not bad at all; but I get full extremely fast. If your newly out like myself hows it going for you.

    21 Months Out Update!

Just remember that you WILL NOT lose pounds every day. You will have times you will go for a couple weeks without losing pounds. That's OK. You will still be losing body fat and your BMI will still be going down as long as you do protein first, then veggies, then carbs. I went from 54% body fat to 26% body fat. If you can't eat more than 4 oz. of protein, then stop eating! Don't try to stuff yourself and make yourself feel sick or get the slimes. You will succeed if you stick to what your doctor says! You will change your way of eating so much, you will never want to eat like you did before. You will get used to the changes and you will love the results. At first you need to eat less and every two-three hours. Don't forget your tummy is 85% smaller than it was before. You will get into a new routine before you know it and wonder how you ever survived before eating like you did! LOVE my sleeve! I have before and after pics on my profile page but the after was taken in May of 2012. You will love this forum and don't be afraid to ask questions here, because everyone is here for everyone else. I learned so much from these people.

    2nd month

Nod young. Same here. I never lost anything in two weeks, but I have been eating bread here and there even though it is difficult for me to swallow it. On the other hand, I had pasta today for the first time and it was great! No problems. So far, I'm having probes eating bread and fruit in a can/jar.
  17. I'm having surgery in a few weeks and my 2yr old is very active too. I know it's for my greater good and even for his but it sucks to have to say "no". My 9yr old says he'll play for me! Lol
  18. My surgery is scheduled for Tuesday and I am excited & nervous at the same time. I assume this is normal but it's getting to me, the nerves that is. I have been on liquids for 3 days and it has been much easier than I thought it would be. The protein shakes were way too thick so I switched to "Isopure" it is like drinking kool aid and has no sugar The rest of the day I drink water and have soup for dinner. After surgery my nutritionist expects me to drink 2 ounces of protein every hour on the hour and two ounces every 1/2 hour with water in between. She says if you do this, you will stay full & hydrated. She explained that the hydration is extremely important for your skin. Anyone have any tips for me???

    3 weeks out

I cant wait for the surgery. Im ready to start a new life!
  20. I went to my first required seminar on March 14th. My first appointment with the doctor was on March 23rd. I had my required psych appointment on April 3rd and had an EGD for April 20th and found out that I had a hiatal hernia. I was approved by my insurance on April 23rd. I'm very surprised how quickly my insurance approved the surgery. It is something that I've needed for quite sometime. I have type 2 diabetes, high BP, and found out in February that I had sleep Apnea. When they told me a few weeks after starting on my CPAP that I needed to add oxygen at night to the CPAP, I really freaked out and that pushed me over the edge to get this surgery process started. The thought of being 37 years old and being on oxygen wasn't my idea of an ideal situation. I go on Wednesday May 6th to see the nutritionist for my 4 week pre-op diet. I'm not looking forward to it but I know that since my BMI is over 50 they it is needed to shrink my liver. I hope and pray that it will be a quick and easy 4 weeks but I wouldn't be as big as I am if things were easy. Things have gone so fast and everything has seemed to be green-lighted up through now, that I can't afford to screw up this final piece of the journey before the surgery journey begins! Everyone that I have told has been really excited for me. My boss actually hugged me and seems really happy! I just hope this continues and I have great results. I've read the forums here and on other sites and know that I will have to make serious changes. I'll have to eat my Protein first, sip sip sip that Water, exercise, and know there will be stalls along the way. Time is going to move anyway, so I might as well be ready for all the ups and downs anyway! Any feedback you can give about pre-op diets, post-op diets, recipes, etc are always helpful! Thanks in advance for your advice!

    15 Days Post Op

Forgot to mention there are some weeks I don't loose anything and some weeks where I loose a lot making sure you get in all fluids is a big deal though so even if you have to eat a whole box of sugar free Popsicles so be it just make sure your getting your fluid intake because not getting enough fluid will make your body retain water and make you have water weight on!
  22. Well its been 4 months since surgery and I am 40 pounds down and 3 sizes smaller Doctor is happy with my progress and says I should reach my goal by 9 months with no problem.....I would like it to go faster but He said slow and steady wins the race......I am happy the scale is moving in the right direction for as change (with the PCOS, there is hope ). 4 DAYS POST OP

WOW 2 Miles! Walking is encouraged and needed but man, don't push it! You have wounds inside that needs to close! You will LOVE how you feel in the coming weeks! There are times when you feel a little disappointed that you can't have something, but the weight loss and the all day energy, without crashes is worth it. What was hard for me was about 2 weeks out when I felt great and its easy to forget you had the surgery and you want to eat the things you had been... but intellectually, you know you can't. I'm 48 days and learning a whole new way of eating and its a lot better food than I thought! Take it easy!

    5 Days Out Of Surgery

My first 2 weeks was clear liquids only, then full liquids. After that soft foods, then solid. Did you surgeon or Nut give you a plan of what you should do? Peanut butter and crackers seems a little much to me.
