Well I am so excited today I weighed in and I am down another 2 lbs. This week I lost 4 or 5 lbs total... That is so awesome... Another thing I am so excited is I have gone on the BMI from morbidly obese to severely obese... Yeah how cool is that... The band fill went good. I had half cup of mashed potatoes for supper and was full off that.. Later in the evening to get my calorie intake up I had my bowl of cream of wheat with milk to also get my protein up for the day... I am so happy with all of this... On saturday at 11 you may hear me groaning where ever you live because I start with my personal trainer that day... I am scared... Scared of puking and scared of being really sore later... Well time to sign out I have to drive my kiddies to the bus... I think by spring I will be able to walk them there... That will be cool.. Only thing is I would want to bring my dogs and there is a lot of dogs on this little road so will see how that goes...

Torn between Lapband and Gastric Sleeve...Help
lindagg63 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am 48 Years old and have been married for 28 years. I have three grown kids and one grand child named Aden. I weigh 260 and am so afraid of dieing youngish. I want to get the lapband surgery or the Gastric Sleeve surgery but do not know which is better. I have watched several different videos of success stories on you tube and have seen many of people who first had the lap band procedure and then went on to have the sleeve done. Is this typical? I for one, don't have the money for more than 1 surgery so which is the best in terms of weight loss and less complications? I trust those of you who have actually gone through these kinds of procedures and have suffered the good and the bad of it, ya know? so any help or advise it welcome. I thank you in advance. -
CPAP USERS - how did u titrate down on air pressure
maxcimax replied to BDM's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use a CPAP but I'm only 9 weeks (tomorrow) out. I have lost 37 lbs but that was mostly at the beginning of my journey. I saw my pulmonologist on 6/10/14 & he was pleased with my progress. I see him again in October & at that time he is going to have me bring home a self testing kit instead of sending me to a sleep study lab. At that time he will determine if I can get rid of the CPAP altogether. I hope so. The biggest reason I was put on the CPAP was because of my oxygen levels not how many times I stopped breathing, which was only 6 times. Anything up thru 5 times they don't put you on a CPAP. Now if I can just get rid of the oxygen 24/7 I will be a very happy person. Good luck with your CPAP. Ask your pulmonologist about the home testing kit. -
Hi all, For the past few days I have been having some pain on my left side. It goes from sharp and stabby to crampy and then nothing. It got really bad today at work (to the point I was hunched over in pain) but it did go away after a few minutes. I thought at first it may be gas, but I am passing gas and have been having bowel movements. Any suggestions of what this might be or how to feel better? If it continues I plan on going to urgent care. I scheduled an appointment with my doc (but it's not until next week) anyway. I am about 4.5 months out from RNY.

I am 3 weeks post op and was wondering what are other's eating or have eaten at this time period?
-
I am about 2.5 weeks post-op and started 'mushies' this past week - scrambled egg chopped up, tuna salad chopped up, tilapia chopped up, mashed potatoes, cottage cheese, yogurt (plain or vanilla), sugar free or fat free pudding, creamed soups, creamed spinach, baby pastina, cream of farina, ricotta cheese... They told me to put whatever I was eating in a 4 oz dixie cup and then dump it on the plate to eat. I barely finish 1/2 of it but most is staying down...

going out to eat for the first time this weekend
SDBeachLaw replied to SDBeachLaw's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Thanks. Trying to be positive. The only real issue is that we wont know anythign about any long lasting effect or disability until after the surgery and the swelling goes down. Feel better. Miso Soup broth saved me in the first week. -
I haven't had a period since October 2007 until just yesterday.:confused2: I went to work and was like WTF. Didn't feel a thing, but yes she was there:thumbup:. I had to run to the store and get some supplies. Took a shower last night and went to sleep. I realized this morning when I woke up that I messed up my bedding set. Hubby was pissed, rightfully so, but he understands. He just figured that he had been blessed with a wife who no longer was "bitchy" once a month. We already have two beautiful kids and weren't planning on having anymore:mellow:. But the question is what do I do now. My ob/gyn had refused to put me on any kind of birth control periods because heart disease runs rampant in my family:crying:. So she put me on the provera but that didn't even work for me. I had my surgery this past month on June 13th, it will be a month next week and I have my first fill on the July 14th. I am so excited to be losing weight and even happier to say that I feel like a woman now since Aunt Flow is back, but does this mean that I am cured. I haven't lost an extreme amount, only 16lbs, but it's better than nothing. So am I cured from the PCOS or is this just a fluke or what:confused2:? Someone else told me that it might be fibroids and not to get happy, so I don't know what to think. Any advice.

When did your period come back?
bandster_1007 replied to MrsFlipFlops's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
yeah a month is a REALLY long time. i've gone through a natural miscarriage and bled for 6 weeks, and that was considered a LONG time..and that was for a miscarriage. i would definately call my doc. -
I have lost weight on a steady basis but everyone is different. Be patient...it will happen for you too. As for your water. You add crystal lite to it in any flavor you want and it helps. I purchased a case of 20oz bottled water from Walmart. Each morning, I take out three bottles, mix my crystal lite, and put one by my chair, one by the bathroom sink, and one in the kitchen. As I pass by them, I drink some from them. The goal is to drink all three prior to bedtime. It works for me.

Our bodies are pretty efficient pieces of machinery. Drop your calories too far and at some point your body will react by lowering your metabolism because it thinks you're starving and is becoming more efficient at conserving those calories. Obviously we're all different so there will be exceptions but perhaps this is what's happening to you. In the past when I'd do a low calorie diet. I'd do low cal/low fat for 3-4 days and then 2 days of normal (per normal people, not 'my' normal) eating and then back to the low cal/low fat. I'd shed more weight with that method than just a straight low cal/low fat diet. I wouldn't worry about it though. The weight will come off eventually. I've only lost 10 pounds in the 6 weeks since surgery and most of that has been since I started back on solid foods. .

Is your port area sore?
Joleen replied to jamiesdoingit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am almost 7 weeks post op and remember thinking these same questions!!!! Just to put your mind at ease. I was a driver of a roll over accident 4 weeks post op and my port and band are fine!!! I was OK too and very lucky to have survived without injury!!! My NP and MD said the reason why we are so sore post op and sometime 2 months post op around the port area is because the port is sewn into the muscle (some with a mesh, some without), when we move and bend. our muscles move one way and the port does or doesn't depending on the movement, which causes pain. Eventually scar tissue builds up and the pain goes away. We do have to make sure infection doesn't occur just watch out for increase redness or swelling around the port incision! -
Can anyone tell me what this actually might mean? I understand non-cream and puréed but does that mean that any non-cream Soup can be puréed and enjoyed? This is part of my stage 2 (week 2) post op diet. I'm pretty sure the staff at my surgeon's office wants to kill me with all of my questions!! Bringing it to the forum while I wait for a callback. Thanks!

It depends in the doctor. I was giveb 3 days clear, 10 days full liquids, the two weeks mushies, the 2 weeks soft solids and then 2 weeks solids.

post op diet, confused
Bornagainbabe replied to kuwait sleever's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Ditto. It depends on the surgeon. I did 3 days of just water, then had to keep some really runny blended up 'proper' food down before I was discharged. I was on that for a couple of weeks before progressing to mushies. -
I lost 4lb in a week a good few times and 3lbs a week on a regular basis not taking xenadrine . Try doing this journey without drugs.. the band likes to be in charge good luck !

40lbs lost yet I dont see a thing!
NJDad replied to koolkel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I look in the mirror, the only place I see the weight loss (42 pounds since 4/24) is in my face and neck. However, there are lots of places you lose weright that you don't notice until you start looking. I don't often wear a watch lately, but I put mine on last week. It spins around freely where it used to be snug. My clothes are fitting loosely now, to the point where I am starting to buy new pants and belts. I am getting close to having an outie after 40+ years of an innie. And yes, my shoes are not fitting any more :-) Yet, when I look in the mirror I see the same gut and same old body. It is going to take some time to change the way I see myself. -
I kept telling myself that I wasn't going to be that person that freaks out if i had a weight loss stall. But here I am.. Only 5 days out and freaking out about only losing 1 pound!!!!!!!!!! In my peop diet class they said that there is a small percentage of people ( 1% or something like that) that WLS doesn't work for them! What if I'm that 1%?? I mean.. 5 days ago I had this surgery and I've only lose 1 lb?!? I know I'm being stupid.. Sorry, but I'm just a little scared of it not working for me. :/

How do you get all of your protein in?
mimi222 replied to gotmyeyeontheprize's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am having the same problem. Tomorrow will be a week since surgery and it has been a challenge getting all the protein in. I went to GNC on yesterday and bought some protein packs. I have been trying to mix them in anything I can because I am SICK of the protein drinks, they are starting to make me gag. I mixed some into the yogurt i had for breakfast it wasn't too bad. I will also try to mix some into my ice cream. At this point protein is my primary focus. -
Hi All, I have been lurking for quiet some time and I finally decided to stop lurking and say hello. I am being banded on March 30 by Dr. Kaul in Westchester, NY I am so excited and very nervous. I have been to three seminars (due to change of doctors) I have read Weightloss Surgery for Dummies and Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding by Jessie Ahroni, PhD. I feel pretty informed just excited. Congratulations to all of you, so many of you who post often have helped me make this decision and I appreciate the community you have here!

:thumbup:I am 8 days away from my band and I cant think of anything else. Weather its good thoughts or my just worrying. I am so greatful for this site. I feel as if i know so much more now and I am so much more prepared. I have a whole list of questions for my Dr. and tommorrow is my pre op oppt. When i first dealt with my Dr. he asked if i had any questions and i said NO i just didnt know what questions to ask. I just hope I can come back to work soon I plan to just take under a week off the only problem is i live an hour away and i hear so many people say they are so tired by the end of the day and i just dread the thought of my being tired and fighting traffic but if that is my biggest issue then i guess i will be lucky. i just cant wait untill i am the one loving my band hell i love it already.
