    1St Milestone Hit...

Congratulations, job well done. Can't wait until I reach that stage I'm only 10 days out.
  2. Butler, I see we were banded within a week of each other. I too have only lost 24 lbs. Most in the first 3 weeks and last 6 weeks. I plateaued between Mid December and late March. 5 fills for me and I go in Friday for fill 6. Hoping to get a small one to tweak the band so I'm in the green zone, I hope. My Doc was quite laid back on what we eat after surgery so I never had to endure 600 calorie days. Since it was Xmas he allowed me to eat normally but within reason and try to steer clear of sugars. I went into this with the fantasy I'd be losing 8-10 lbs a month. I thought I'd be down 50-60 lbs by summer but that's a wasted dream now. I believe I'd still have this surgery had I known then what I know now. I just wish I would have known about bandster hell and how many damn fills I'd need to get to the green zone? Those many days of frustration January-March were agonizing. tmf
  3. Hi All, So excited to have found this site! I am 4 days PO and am begining to feel better, was sleeved at Madigan Army Medical Center, Ft Lewis, WA. I was having a weird sensation evertime I drank, kind of like bubbles coming back up but that sensation has passed and now when I drink about 2-3 mins later I get a pain mid-low center chest?? I am taking very small sips. According to my Dr I am able to start full liquids today so I had a few bites of vanilla pudding with some protien powder mixed in, also had about 3 ozs of chocolate slimfast. I am not physically feeling hunger but the smell of food makes me miss it terribly. Anyone have this pain I am talking about?? It passes quickly but just uncomfortable for a minute or so.

    Day 1 - pre op diet :(

You will definitely get through it. I thought the first and now the last days of the liquid diet were the hardest. I am starving today and warned my coworkers that I might get grouchy. Everyone at my office has been great with their support. IMO the 10 calorie jello would be okay. It was on the list and 10 calories is really nothing.

    Healthy obsession????

Every doctor has different requirements for post-op. I am on "modified full liquids" for 3 weeks. I am supposed to have 2 ounces of a high Protein drink every hour on the hour while awake, plus I can have 2 ounces of another low calorie liquid every 15 minutes for a total of 8 ounces an hour. I'm not exactly doing the "every hour on the hour" thing, but I am keeping up with everything I drink and when. I'm supposed to get at least 40-60 g of protein a day and 48-64 ounces of Fluid a day, and I am. I use ProteinBlitz drinks, Lean Body and WorldWide milkshakes for my protein, and have Water and beef and chicken broth for the other fluids. I decided to see how many calories I'm getting, just out of curiosity and I'm averaging about 275 a day. I know that's awfully low, but I'm feeling fine and not hungry. It does seem like a lot to do that for 3 weeks, but I may get some different information when I go in next Friday for my 10-day post-op appointment. Good luck and happy losing

    Quitting Smoking

I have quit smoking for 1 month I did smoke initially for the first 2 week but hardly 10. However I use to smoke at least 20 per day. No more craving for it after sleeve..... I m going to treat myself for hair loss and then skin rejuvenation by platelet rich plasma treatment. Being a plastic surgeon is awesome. Thumbs up

  10. Happy (early) Birthday!!! Hang in there! You didn't travel this far just to chicken out. I'm turning 59 later this week and received a call this morning telling me my surgery date was moving up to 11/10 (from 12/8) if I wanted that date. I said YES!!! So ready to get this behind me so I can get past the post-op process. Have to start my 2 week (minus 1 day ) pre-op diet today so there won't be any going out to supper on my birthday , but we'll Celebrate another time.

    toning/firming

I started weight-training 6 weeks post op. I have worked up to 2.5 miles on the elliptical machine at an 8 mile a minute pace, plus 45 minutes of weight training and 10 min of core training. Outside of the gym I walk 3 plus miles a day and am a HS football and baseball coach and am very active with my athletes and my children at home. Plus we are getting ready to move so I am packing and moving boxes everyday as well.

  13. I was wondering if anyone else has problems with anxiety since surgery? I have been banded since Jan 12th and have lost 85 pounds. I have been having a lot of anxiety in the past few months and some weeks it is EVERY day! Today was one of the worst days in a long time. I was in Disneyland and all excited to get into the park and had a mental list of all the things to accomplish before going home at 2pm. Well, at 10am it started. We rode two rides and had to quit. I went full on attack at about 11 and it has been going on with little relief for almost 10 hours. The first 6 hours were MISERABLE. I have an appointment with my regular doctor and hope that he can help, on Thursday. Anyone else have these "issues"?

    Sleep Study

I had one 10 years ago and was diagnosed with insomnia and delayed phase sleep dysphasia. They had me get one for surgery and it wasn't fun. I did get up 3 times to go to the bathroom and that was annoying. The worse part was the floor of the sleep center had this chevron pattern that triggered my vertigo. By the time I walked down the hallway I had to sit down because the world was spinning. The center recommended cpap but I was suspicious because the resident said I had mild sleep apnea. A few days later the attending called and said I was up too much during the night and they didn't get enough info. I explained I sleep on my stomach, have only 1 functioning nostril due to trigeminal neuralgia from facial shingles a few years back and can't wear a face mask because of the neuralgia. She wanted to redo the test. Insurance wouldn't pay for it so she then tried to set me up with a CPAP machine. It wasn't covered by my insurance so I never got it. Anyway I had my surgery and everything worked out fine.
  15. I had surgery 10-17-13. Still haven't reached my weight loss goal. I got down to 192. That's it. I've gained 40lbs back and am now at 226. I can not get my behavior right. Drinking Water is like torture. I'm most likely dehydrated and exhausted.
  16. Hey everyone! I am just so excited that I had to share! Tomorrow I will be two weeks post op. I go to my follow up at 10. I am getting my staples removed ( thank God!) and I will be graduating to my mushies! I can't wait!

    September 2016 Post VSG Updates

Hi Heather, your doing great. Yea I do a shake in morning too just cause I like doing shake for breakfast unless eating breakfast with friends, stuck to eggs when do. I don't really count calories so much but thinking about probably around 10 00 - most days. Honestly I habe not paid attention to carb count so I need to start keeping eye on that cause might be why at first plateau now. Have increased pace when walking for exercise & also increasing amount exercise more now too but thanks for mentioning carbs because I forgot about keeping in check also.

    September 2016 Post VSG Updates

Sleeved 9/19, awesome recovery; able to get in all protein/water/vitamin requirements, back at work FT, etc., etc., trying to squeeze in a little walking in between hectic schedule. I'm hungry though! I thought I wouldn't be, but I'm at 2 weeks out and need some sort of solid food. I'm having 2 ounces of smoked salmon, and that holds me. I kind of skipped the week of puree/mush/cream Soups and have one "meal" of salmon or pureed ground turkey mixed in pureed chili -- about one half cup. Then I can get by with the Water and Protein shakes, but I was going crazy on all liquids, and broth wasn't cutting it. I lost 14 pre-op, 6 the first week, only 2 the second week. I know, I know, healing, not a race, don't compare, yada, yada, yada, but I feel like this is kinda slow for the first big month of loss! I expected a slowdown in month 2-3, not week 2-3!
  19. I am sooo incredibly happy that I found this thread! I've been stalled for about 10 days and I know it's Water and Protein, but I thought I was doing something majorly wrong. I've got my protein up, and today I finally drank all the water that I needed. How long does it take to get yourself out of the slump and back to dropping weight, once you get your protein and water met? Thanks.

Scheduled for sleeve July 10th may back out

I had my surgery in Mexico on 6/29. I am 55 year old, have high blood pressure, diabetes, and sleep apnea. I weighed 256 on the day of surgery and that is on a 5’3” frame. These are the reasons I had the surgery. My thought was that if I didn’t have the surgery I wouldn’t make it to age65. That prospect scared me a lot. There are no guarantees whether you have the surgery or not. When I was wheeled into surgery I was at complete peace with it and not at all nervous because I knew this was my best hope for a long life. It was a tough surgery and it took me a good 4 days to feel decent. But now at 10 days out I feel pretty darn well aside from not having too much energy because I am still in phase 2 full liquid only. I am looking forward to Thursday hen I get to try soft foods. So far I have had zero complications. Hope this helps. Please let us know your decision.

    ANTHEM BCBS OF OHIO

For the record I went to my first WLS seminar end of July. My first surgical consult was 8/6. Everything else was done and paperwork submitted by first of October and I was sleeved 10/21.
  25. Is there such a thing as too much cheese? I'm sure there is and it probably isn't a good thing to be eating mainly one food. I fell in love with and seem to crave Laughing Cow and similar spreadable cheeses on top of Wheat Thins. It goes down easily for me and satisfies me. I typically eat about six crackers for breakfast. Some unsweetened apple sauce and cottage cheese for lunch. A Blue Bell round cheese disk or Quest bar for a snack and focus on some sort of protein for dinner. I feel like I am constantly eating. I am 7 weeks out, down 45 since pre-op (10 days before surgery) 35 since surgery. BMI of 39 before surgery, 35 now. Anyone else get stuck in a rut with food? Should I try to add more variety or continue to eat what I can? When I asked my surgeon he said he wants me to drink one or two protein shakes a day. I struggle with nausea and protein shakes, no matter the brand or flavor, turn my stomach.
