I had my port revision procedure today. I was awake the entire time. Didn't feel a thing. They took out the mesh completely and attached the port directly to the fascia. They said it wasn't my fault that my port flipped within the first month and that it probably wasn't attached well in the first place. I got a fill if 4cc. Now we begin the process!!!

Is bypass a better revision?
LSF replied to Bndtoslv's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
When I read the postings from those that had bypass, they seem very happy. And the same is said for those that had the sleeve. I choose to revise to the sleeve because it seemed more natural for me, I didn't want any re-routing of my organs. I would just read both forums so you can see the different views from people. And talk to your surgeon about the pros & cons of each Oops , just realized your surgeon recommends the sleeve. -
I am new to the forum. I am looking for information for a good revision surgeon in or near AL. Most the doctors in Alabama do not perform revision surgery. However, they will take your money for consult and then tell when you're in the office, "oh we don't do revision surgery" . I have travelled as far as ATL and have a surgeon. However, because constant trips and not the ability to accommodate out of town patients, this was not a successful path. I know there is a listed Bariatric Surgeon who specialize in revision and are able to accommodate out of town patients. I just need the list so I can begin again. Thank u for any help.

I would love to hear stories from those who have been converted from a lap band to a sleeve. My revision was approved and I will most likely have mine done all in one procedure at the end of April. Was your revision done in one or two procedures? What is it like compared to the lap band? Thanks!!!

Lap band revision to sleeve
Cleo's Mom replied to ette16's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Go on the band to sleeve revision thread for additional answers. I asked this same question on there and while it seems most had theirs done at the same time, some were told they had to wait X number of weeks/months to get the revision. It depends on the surgeon and what condition(s) the band may have caused, if any. Good luck with your journey. -

Question for revisions
marfar7 replied to jakecal413@'s topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
"Anyone lap band revision to sleeve?" Yes. Had my band almost 4 yrs before my revision 5 mths ago. "How much was ur starting weight before lap band and sleeve?" Before band was 248 and before sleeve was 174. "How much did u loose with each?" I lost 104 lbs with the band BEFORE it slipped and I gained back 30. So far I've lost 22 lbs with the sleeve. I'm now 152. Slowly, but I knew it would be slower since I started out at a lower weight. Plus, I'm focused on maintaining right now and will then focus on my last 22 after the holidays. "How long has it been sence surgery?" 5 mths "Are I maintaining?" I haven't lost/gained a lb in 2 mths. And I'm maintaining fairly easily. I weigh everyday (yep, I one of those people) and everyday I'm surprised that my last nites snacking didn't cause any gain. So, so happy about that! "Any advise would be greatly appreciated. " Be patient. The lower u weigh the slower it will come off. And ur probly not gunna see the huge losses that "virgin sleever" (those who haven't had a revision, that r straight sleeves) see in the first 6-9 mths. And don't drink while ur eating! I got used to that rule while my band was in cuz I COULDN'T drink while eating otherwise it would come right up. Now when I eat, it feels similar to eating with my band (feel it high in my chest) so I'm actually scared of drinking, fearing it'll come back up. Even tho I KNOW there's no structure in the way anymore, I guess that fear is good! "I'm to be sleeved in 7 days, lost over 100 pounds with the lap band till it slipped and has a hole in it. " Good luck to u. Ull do great, I'm sure. -
Love reading your posts…what an inspiration! I chuckled at your first NSV…i just posted on another thread…how amazed I am that I can now see the seat under me and so much of it too! And like you, the steering wheel would rub my belly and now I had to lower my steering wheel…guess theres not as much butt and back "lifting" me in my seat now! Im also looking forward to summer with my kids…last year I avoided the pool all summer because I didn't want to get in a suit…now Im okay with my new suit in a smaller size! Just did some clothes and shoe shopping on sunday….so happy with my 12/14 pants….14/16 shirts and even my shoes shrunk a little in width! And like you I am feeling like this is just where I am supposed to be right now in my life…and yes….LIFE IS GREAT! Was having a "rut" with my eating and food choices and realized that only I can get myself back to where I was with my revised and better eating habits. I love so much of the new me that the cookie or bag of m&m's really isn't worth it…but it is so DARN TEMPTING…and the head hunger is just killing me…but I'm just gonna take one day at a time….AND BEAT IT! Thanks for posting your successes and your tips….love them! You look amazing!

10 months from revision surgery
Mid West replied to copmom's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Did you revise from the band or the sleeve? -
I had a lap band in 2003. Fought with it the whole time but at one point I lost a lot of weight. I ate nothing solid for four months. So I went ahead and did a tummy tuck and breast lift. Then my band broke and I gained every bit back. I never regained the hanging belly because they cut it off. I did gain in my upper belly though! So I had a revision to sleeve almost 3 weeks ago. I lost 25 lbs pre op and another 17 in the past three weeks! So with these 40 lbs I've noticed my upper belly is realllly flattening out!!

Okay post 2 days revision I weigh in at 246 I will keep u posted on my journey. My throat is very sore and I was only able to consume about 2 ounce of liquids today it feels sort of strange when it hit my stomach it's cramps a little and it stops. Will this get better? And was anyone sent home with a plastic bag that is draining fluid time one week post surgery?

Had the surgery yesterday. Still in the hospital. My surgeon said I had minimal scar tissue. Didn't take any pain meds and the pain is bearable. They still have me on ice chips, just waiting to switch to water

2 days out of revision surgery
OldMomOf3 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I'm 2 days out of surgery and still in hospital w fever and low blood count. I had 2 units in a blood transfusion and I hope to go home tomorrow. Overall I had more gas pain which was absolutely horrible, but less incision pain Bc no port. I can get about 1tablespoon of fluid down. I am not hungry and I have no appetite whatsoever. I'm bloated w iv fluid and ready to go home. All in all seems like a normal sleeve revision experience except for the blood loss and fever. -
Thinking about a revision to the bypass
MummyMeagan posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I have had my band now for almost a year and it has been a struggle I have so far to date lost 60 lbs. I spoke with a new surgeon because was not very happy with the office I was seeing I was having problems and none were being addressed in my visits, but when speaking to the new surgeon she had me convinced that I had choose e wrong surgery for me and that it isn't working out because of problems I am having. Has anyone had the revision surgery ? Or know someone that did ? I am just really struggling with this band. -
My dr here told me he would put in a feeding tube after revision to help reduce the risk of a leak. So for 2-3 weeks after surgery there would be nothing by mouth until healed. this sounds like a good idea, has anyone every done this. Also, I still cant afford my dr so have researched all Mexico drs, but have never asked them about feeding tubes bc I had never heard anyone doing this. does anyone know if mexican drs will put in a feeding tube to help with the risk.. Also, I didnt know there were differenct kinds of feeding tubes. I assumed it would be insertd directly into stomack (never thought about how it is removed) but then I saw the news where brides are having feeding tubes up their nose to lose weight, so now im wondering what kind of feeding tube it would be. does anyone know anything about all this. Im still terrified of a revision, I dont want to be financially devistated if something should go wrong.

Another Hopeful Band To Sleeve Revision
Wheetsin replied to timetobefree's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Did you have the same screen name on LBT? I was there for several years (since 2005 IIRC). We have similar stats and somewhat similar stories, though my slip occured during my pregnnacy (I'm 99% sure). I'm still a fan of the band, just not it's long-term implications. As a temporary tool, I think it's great. Bands do leak. Allergan (manufactures the Lap-Band brand) knows they leak. I know too many people who've had "disappeared" fill, it's ridiculous. It shouldn't be able to leak, but it can. Osmosis maybe, who knows! I know it's frustrating and financially stressful, but two surgeries Healthwise is a good thing (I guess that's the silver lining?). The complication rate when there's a minimum two month wait between procedures goes down ridiculously. I don't remember the exact numbers, but as of about a year ago it was something like 20% - 30% initially, and a bit more each subsequent month. A lot of surgeon's will refuse two-in-one procedures now, because of the high complication rates. Because of an insurance snafu I went 7 months between band removal and sleeve revision. I did great maintenance wise for about 2 or 3 months, then hit a hard downward spiral. In the first two-ish months I gained about 10 lbs, most of which was Fluid (I was so dehydrated from not being able to comfortably pass fluids regularly). But by the date of my revision, I was up about 60 lbs in 7 months. That's insane. Be glad the band is coming out now. The reflux can lead to some bad things. I was given the option of keeping my slipped band in because all in all, I was tolerating it OK (at first - it got a lot worse fairly quickly). I told them it wasn't an option, too much risk for something else to pop up. I think you'll like the sleeve. It's familiar, yet night-and-day opposite -- all in good ways. Revisioners tend to lose weight more slowly with the sleeve (I don't know if it's "with the sleeve" so much as "this time around"), but quality of life is so much better, it's worth it. I've said before, I'm not anti-band, it's just unable to do what made it successful to begin with. I am still surprise it's being marketed so hard and we aren't seeing more surgeons drop it. I guess it has too high of a profit margin. Having had both, if I knew then what I know now and it had been readily available, I'd have gone with the sleeve to start with. Especially if I was self pay (I wasn't, neither time). If I'd self-paid for my band, I would be pissed and some of the folks I know at Allergan would be hearing from me daily. -
Revision from Sleeve to Bypass...
missmachine replied to missmachine's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Vicki, YES, let's definitely stay in touch and help each other along this journey. We seem to be starting out around the same BMI as well. I am glad you responded. I have not been able to find much info online for vsg to rny revisions and the success rate or anything. Why are you getting your revision, is it because of inadequate weight loss or because of a complication? I do have the acid reflux but more than anything I am hoping that this will help me lose the other 1/2 of my fat. I was worried that since I already had a surgery that this wouldn't be much different for weight loss. I don't know. I will PM you my email. -
Newbie...dr Tomorrow...not Sure How To Approach The Dr About Revision
traceyinflorida replied to cadezma77's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I don't think after four years, you are giving up too soon! That sounds so frustrating and you are well within your rights to bring up a revision. When you meet with your doctor, be frank about how frustrating this has been, and really pretty unsuccessful and tell him what you would like to do. You need to be your own best advocate. Unfortunately don't know the difference between upper GI and endoscopy. I know endoscopy, they stick a small tube (endoscope) with a camera down your throat (while you are really well sedated and probably will sleep and not remember much) to see all the way down your esophogus. They also can send special instraments down tube if they need to take a biopsy) Good luck with your appointment. Don't be afraid to discuss your concerns with your doctor. That's what he is there for. -
