2 weeks out..have a food question
Arts137 replied to Emilysmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
yes you will. A "meal" will be about 6 to 8 oz after everything is stable. Remember the "rules"... no liquid with meals, Protein first, and smile (well that last one is more a guideline). I am about 10 weeks out and I can drink normallt, and eat in the 5-6 oz range... -
The 23 states that will offer weight loss surgery in their Obamacare plan
Mel1071 replied to mswisdom's topic in Insurance & Financing
Auri - you're fine with your own insurance. Just don't switch plans. I love how the majority of the states that have the highest obesity rates are not on this list. At least 6 of the 10 aren't on the list -
hey My name is Traci, and I have been where you are, and it truly sucks ass. In Feb and March of this year I was the same way. It killed me to get up and get off the couch. I would rather of stayed in bed than I would walk around the house. The more I didnt want to do anything, the more I gorged on food. I drank over 24 Mt dews a week, fountain drinks every single day...32 o's...and just really didnt care becuase what the heck, I was already fat, what was a few more bites or one more drink??? I started my weight loss journey In April. Got approved and was within 1 month away from surgery....I was sooooo ready. The start of May I bought a single speed bike from Walmart, and started riding 2-3 miles. Damn, it use to just kill me..... Once I was approved, I went in for my surgery consult, and immediatly started the liquid diet....DAMN...that was the hardest thing.....I cheated, but not in big ways...Like I would have some lunch meat or something...but no huge things. My surgery went so well, and I was determend to make this work. At first there is not real tightness in the band, so it is definatly will power to stay motivated. The first few months I lost 10-13 lbs each month. The past few, I am down to 6-8. It stinks. I started cyclying more, and bought a hybrid bike with gears, and have been riding usually on the weekends anywhere from 15 miles to 42. I just completed my first 40 mile ride last weekend.... Some days it seems like it is harder than others, and I slip and drink a soft drink or 2, or eat something I shouldnt...but............. Last night I was able to go into a NORMAL store and buy a dress.... It was a awesome feeling and wonderful motivator. Dont give up on yourself......Just know that it is normal to eat allot before the procedure is done, it is what they call last supper syndrome, and allot of people do it everyday until there surgery. IT IS NORMAL> As far as being tired....that will get better....try walking just a little....any little bit will make you feel so much better....and soon, you will be walking miles. Please feel free to PM me, or email me any time if you would like to talk. I am from Indiana... Traci

New Goal Setting for Summer
Oliver's Mom replied to FishingNurse's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sleeve - first let me say I am sorry for your loss. You have a great attitude and you are right, it will happen. My husband's birthday is July 26th. By that date I would like to be down 12 1/2 lbs (I have 25 to lose to get to goal). To accomplish this: I will - 1) train for a 5K - signed up for a couch to 5 K class that starts this Thursday. 2) work with a personal trainer (signed up for 5 weeks of training) 3) continue to follow my current eating regimen of 70+ g Protein, 60+ oz of Water, calories in the 800-1000 range AND 4) take a Strong Woman class (10 weeks) This is SO do-able for us!! -

Hollywood and I are about the same. I have to do 3 weeks liquid. Less than 1,000 cal a day ... 2 protein shakes ... one yogurt ... one serving of fat free jello pudding ... sugar free popsicles ... and clear broth. And ya, its hard to get to 1,000 on that I am on day 7 now and have gotten about 500 to 700 calories a day but I have also lost 10 pounds -
Anyone With Prostate Or Other Cancer History?
ProudGrammy replied to gmanbat's topic in The Guys’ Room
hi GMNABAT I am a 10 year+ happy breast cancer survivor. (at that time no sleeve) I followed all the instructions my oncologist gave me - whether it was to take a new pill, chemo, or do this or that so i would survive even if i might gain weight. I'd rather be a survivor for the past 10 years,+ and live to tell about it and possibly might gain weight -than gain weight, but anable to tell my story Kathy -
I'm supposed to get together with friends this afternoon and one said her 2 year old son is sick with a fever. I'm 10 days post op. Should I go or stay home?

best way to break a stall?
Susanne replied to AMLP's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The funny thing is, you'll never know if that was the reason, or if your body was simply ready to drop some more :-) I generally suggest riding it out (especially this early). For me, a lot of the changes that I made had no effect. I thought lower carbs helped, but it only helped that one time and never again. I am pretty sure it was just a coincidence. Next time I stalled, it broke after a weekend of really bad eating (pizza, Cookies etc.) - and that brought me to the conclusion that it doesn't matter what I eat. Just sit it out, and try not to get too aggravated. Being upset and pissed off just adds to the injury, so just tell yourself that if you do everything right (eat your protein, log food and eat within your calories (max of 900 cals), drink enough Water, take your Vitamins, exercise some), the stall will break! I just lost 1.8 pounds over the weekend, which is never my "good time" because I snack more. My body has it's own mind and doesn't seem to care too much what I do as long as I stay within certain guidelines (see above). It may be different once you are 6, 10, 12 months out... There are very few people who have major stalls that don't break, and I hope that is not you! And of course, everyone is different :-) -
Tuesday 198.5!!! Yesterday was my 5 month anniversary and I am down 30 lbs! I am thrilled!! I have refused to compare my loss to anyone elses, I am losing at the rate I lose at! I have consistently lost about 6 lbs a month. I have so many NSV's I cant begin to list them, but I need to...just to look back at. 30 lbs has made a HUGE difference on my body, especially from the waist up. 1. My waist is SIX inches smaller. 2. Ribcage under my bra is FIVE inches smaller....36 inches and one inch smaller than my waist!! Goodbye back fat. 3. My arm at the bicep is only 12.5 inches, ! 4. From size 20W pants to size 16 and 18.....16-18 misses, not W!!!! 5. My boobs stick out farther than tummy...no longer look 5mo pregnant. 6. There is not ONE coworker, friend, family that has not noticed and commented on the weight loss (and I am still in the closet with banding) 7. First time under 200 in about 4 years. 8. My face is getting thin enough I am starting to feel really pretty again. 9. I feel 'heavy/normal' and not huge, bloated, puffy 10. My ankles never ever get edema anymore. 11. I have zero nighttime reflux anymore. 12. My DH says it is like having sex with a different woman because he can FEEl such a difference in my body. 14. My back is completely smooth. No roll above waistband or around bra. 15. Blood sugar stays very stable (thanks to no bread, lmao) 16. OFF BP medicine....was only borderline and now normal. 17. Gone from (bust, waist, hip) 48.5,43,51 to 46.5(-2),37(-6),47(-4)......big fat gut is so much more in portortion now, hell! its gone!!!...maybe that is why everyone notices I have lost weight. My shape is still big but back to being very shapely now. I could keep going but these are the major ones....in no particular order.

Wednesday 194!!! I am pretty excited, I am down 35 lbs in 5 and half months. More than I have ever lost before, I usually struggle for months to drop 20 and then discouraged or frustrated and give up. I have had a week here and there where I didnt lose ANY but it always catches up....I have averaged 6 lbs a month every month. I have yet to hit an actual plateau, but I am sure it will happen. I still need to get back to exercising.

A Bit Worried... Probably Nothing, But...
bubles089 replied to AaronRene14's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I get that all the time!! I am 10 weeks out, surgery was 8/28, it's really bad when I get home from the gym, to the point I get tunnel vision. Not every day is the same, some days I don't have it. My friend that is almost 3 yrs out said she had it for the first year. My Bp is fine sitting but I know it bottoms out when I stand up. I just have learned to know my body and that my work outs can't be as hard as I want them to be. All my blood work is totally normal -

Nutrition question
JamieLogical replied to Misty101's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't like that you are grazing with the trail mix. You may be eating more than you realize that way. Grazing is one of the easiest ways to bypass the restriction of the sleeve, because you never truly get "full". So it can be a slippery slope. Much better to eat on a schedule and have a specified amount of something as your "snack" between "meals". I am not a breakfast person AT ALL either. I never ate breakfast until I started trying to seriously lose weight. Even still, my "breakfast" is just a Protein bar. You could try a Protein Bar or shake, since those are easy to eat "on the go" or at your desk at work. I always eat mine first thing when I get into work, because I love my sleep, so my pre-work routine is waking up at the last possible moment, rolling out of bed, hopping in the shower, getting dressed quick, then usually getting to work 5-10 minutes late. There can be NO DOUBT that eating breakfast helps with weight loss though. So it's worth squeezing it in where you can. Even on weekends, when I sleep in, I wake up at my normal time, eat my protein bar, take my Vitamins, then go back to sleep! So my suggestions are: add a protein bar or shake for breakfast cut out the grazing and instead have scheduled, pre-measured Snacks try tracking your food for a week or two just to make sure you really are where you think you are with your calories and macros, then maybe try adjusting up or down as needed -
Pre-banding Feed Frenzy....
Juliebean replied to HarleyGirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm VERY pre-op (just had my first consultation). Still waiting to hear from lapbandsolutions about insurance and what they might need from me. In the past 10 days or so, I've gone NUTS with eating. I made and ate a VAT of chicken and dumplings. I've eaten a dozen Reese's eggs, at least, and lots of other crap - but I keep thinking of those dumplings. Good lord, it was a lot of food! I'm sure it is "last supper-ing" but it's frustrating the hell out of me. -
Went to the dr yesterday and he stated there is a time limit on my band 10 to 15 years top! I am 8 years out and have to do testing to see how things are going. What are my options after this, It didn't sound like he wanted to put another band on? Anyone else with this issue?? Lynne

Well I hate to be a downer on this but, for some, you may want to just get used to it. My surgery was done almost 10 years ago and I still have gas. Good luck and I hope overcome it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

i'm pre-op, for the second time
gabbykittyvsg posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a sleeve 7 years ago and am revising to bypass with a surgery date of March 1st. The process after approval for my sleeve was bittersweet. I was working with an elderly man who died suddenly, we were very good friends. He died just a few hours before my final pre-op appointment. My surgeon's final appointments are LONG (2 hours, one with the nurse and one with the surgeon) and as much as I tried to be happy, I just couldn't because I was so sad. This followed me to surgery day too. Here I am, surgery day #2 coming up on March 1st (68 days away!!!). I'm trying my best to enjoy this pre-op period. As a team, they decided I don't have to do the 10 day pre-op diet, but I'm going to do one anyhow. I'm going to do a week of 2 shakes and one lean protein, low carb meal per day, as a way of getting my mind in the game. -

Advice For Vacation?
sandy.lyons replied to fericito's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery 10 days ago. I think being with family for 10 days might be more painful than the surgery . Plus, surely most family members can't take the whole 10 days off either. Just tell everyone you are doing Atkins and drink their Protein shakes. That should explain why you don't have any carbs. I had to go back to work 3 days after my surgery. I teach second grade with 24 seven and eight year olds. We had field day the day that I went back. The only thing I think you should have problems with is not swimming, but I haven't been in a bathing suit for years, so no one would question that. Walking, boating, etc. shouldn't give you any problems. I bet your doctor team can help with food ideas, etc. Good luck and have fun! -
I am so mad n disappointed--I could cry

They also told me that I am not fat enough to get approved. I am 253lbs, BMI was 38.6!! But the nurse pretty much said gain 10 more and you will be fine. SO here I am trying to gain 10 lbs. You'd think it would be easy...lol So hopefully after I get 10 more frikin pounds on they can get things going for me. Good luck to you. Maybe you can just gain a few more pounds and take the suggestions here? The squeaky wheel really does get the grease!! -
Deciding on a Goal Weight?
swizzly replied to nowatgoal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Another twin here, though I am more in the medium frame category, unlike the wee MINI-Me. I am 5'6.5" (though I always claim 5'7" lol) and am sort of semi-aiming for 140-ish because I've felt good at that weight in the past. However, my body really seems to have changed somehow, as I can already fit into 10s and 12s at my current weight, so I'm thinking 140-something might be too thin now that I'm older? Not sure. I fit into 10s and 12s, when I was younger, in the 150-160 range, though it's quite possible the sizes have just gotten bigger? I have no idea what weight puts me into 'normal' BMI because I think BMI as any kind of reliable metric is crap. I've always ignored that one except for when I had to make sure I made the BMI cut for insurance . And honestly, everything is measured in kg here anyhow, so anything pound-related is an afterthought (eg, took me a bit to realise when I'd hit onederland in lbs). If I'm honest, I'm not at all goal-oriented, so I don't really think I'll be that bothered if I don't get to the 140s, I guess I'll wait and see how things go. I suck at planning, frankly. -
Deciding on a Goal Weight?
Forensikchic replied to nowatgoal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 5'4" and I used to be taller! I dont know how I lost 3/4 of an inch but it happened! I was in the military in my late teens and I remember being 127 lbs going in. I was a perfect size 6 then and in Jr. size it was some 5's or 7's depending on how they were made. I loved my figure then and I didnt have to struggle to keep it. That was college and military. Then my son was born and those days were gone. I am taking them back as of Monday August 8!!!!! I set my first goal for 145 which would make my BMI in normal range. 135 is my middle goal. I want to see how that feels and if I can maintain that. Ultimately, I want to maintain 125 to 130. The chart says I can be as low as 108 but I have never been that small and frankly with my frame (Medium to large) I cant carry that off. You can count my ribs and my pelvic bones stick way out when I am 125. I look like a wasp or dirt dobber as we say in the south. I dont think I will be comfortable that thin. So my goals are similar, even though I am shorter. I think the sizes have changed in the past 10 years or so. At a previous weight loss, I maintained 170 for years and was a perfect size 12. I gained again and then lost back to 170 but was then a 14 and couldnt squeeze in a 12. I dont know what the difference was. I gained all the weight back plus 50 pounds. I am in a 20 in most things as long as the jeans are stretch material. They get loose as the day goes on but out of the dryer, it has to be a 20 or it wont fit. I have no idea what the numbers are going to mean as far as size now adays though. I am so excited to be having surgery MONDAY!!!
