Ok so tomorrow I start my 2 week diet. It's not completely liquid as I get a bar a day but still won't be easy. The thing is that for the past six months I had been talking about how the day before I would go all out on food and have a wonderful steak dinner. Well I've been sick for the last three days and have had no appetite. Today I had oatmeal for fb and a lunchables for lunch. I'm not craving ANYTHING. The only reason I feel I should eat is bc this is it for a while you know. Although with time I will be able to enjoy those foods again, it just feels like I need to gobble it all down. But not tonight, tonight I'm having baby carrots and grilled chicken for dinner. And it's only because I need my Protein after the kick ass workout I did. If I did go out I would probably be forcing myself to eat. Let's hope I feel the same the next three days as I heard they are the hardest lol Ok blabbing over -
I am bumming out
Nessy76 replied to jesslovesglitter's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You may be sick of them now, but protein shakes are also an option. I am also in class/ labs and the protein shake has been a life saver bc they don't req refrigeration and you are not technically "eating" in class... Good luck to you! -
Revision Recovery Timeline - Band to Bypass
TX_KB replied to spealex's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had band to bypass revision on 12/22. I was fine by the next day and went home from the hospital. Had no problems with liquids. Was walking around. Only needed pain meds at night before bed and the occasional Tylenol. Was off pain meds by the first week post-op. I had a little soreness but nothing too bad. No nausea. Gas pain was gone by about day 3. I took off 3 weeks from work bc I do 12 hour shifts that require physical activity. I could have gone back at 2 weeks. The first week, the main problem was fatigue and weakness. I took a nap every day. Once I could start eating more real food, I had more energy. I have young children and was able to take care of them the first week. Recovery from this has been better than the band for me. -
How do a choose a surgeon ?
Butterflywarrior replied to amf1025's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
four ducklings wow! Most surgeons who are accredited have awesome stats. Complications can always happen of course but obesity can kill you too. So can driving a car...or crossing a street.. . I guess surgery just puts it in our faces because it's new territory for many of us, you sign your life away on forms and everyone tells you horrible stories! I've had general anesthesia anniversary if times and many procedures and a couple if surgeries. It's always a bit scary but I do remind myself if what I started out saying... obesity comorbidities are deadly, and life activities can kill you too so that might help you too I did ask my surgeon how many patients he has lost on the table and it was zero in many years and a small handful from drastic complications like pulmonary embolism often bc people feel symptoms and don't seem medical attention until it's too late! They do a lot to prevent clots, infection, etc these days... -
@CrankyMagpie thank you! probaly a good idea bc i dont know what my new tummy will tolerate.

I chose the band bc for me the sleeve felt too drastic a choice-for now. I even had a date fir that surgery but i just didnt have a peace for removing so much of my stomach. Not that it might nit be right for someone else or even myself in the future. But. I have great hope thAt this will be a huge help as a tool to lose. Also plan to attend support groups

Gas - pain - hunger - nausea
SabrenaR replied to DD87's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Its 7pm here where I am. I didnt have much pain when I sipped, more like discomfort. But, I did have pain if I sipped too fast behind one another, oh yeah, I definitely felt pain..it was bad. So just take it slow, your tummy is swollen & inflamed & very sensitive. So take small sips out of those one ounce cups, if it takes you 5-10mins to do so, then do that..don't force it, slowly sip every 15minutes. Try to get up & move around as much as u can, dont over do it but to help get those gas pains moving around & out of you & to keep from setting up blood clots. I know its painful, trust me I know, once I got home, 5 days later I was rushed back to the ER for severe pain, thought I had a Leak, thank GOD it wasn't! I just did too much..so please dont push yourself like I did bc I can be dangerous & very painful. My daughter eventually stayed with me to help me up & down until I was able to do it all on my own without any pain. You have to find what works best for you! Stick with it, follow your surgeon's plans & orders as well as your nutritionist & stay sipping for hydration..you'll be just fine! 😊 -
Not sure which BC to use after surgery?
AshleyMidwife replied to Sydney Lynn Pinckley's topic in The Gals' Room
I am the same. Mirena and have had it for 3 years. I haven't had children and was just fine to have it placed. It's great bc it makes your periods light and might even make then go away. I haven't had a period in over a year!! -
SEX and hormones
Melissannde replied to Kate rules's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It can happen. Make sure you are using BC until your body settles down. Enjoy the ride. -
My hiccups are violent...theyre awful. If I take too big a bite or if I eat bread and it hurts to go down then the hiccups come...I hate the hiccups worse than throwing up bc these hiccups wont go away....never in my life have I hiccuped so much!

7 days post op sleeved with 102.7 temp.
kpeartree replied to kpeartree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For the most part my recovery has been well. I haven't had to take much of the pain medication and I prefer not to bc it's pretty strong. My doctor approved Tylenol but i must crush it. The same with the pain medication he prescribed. It's really gross but I get through it. -
Well I guess I could always try birth control, I mean I'll have to get put on it after surgery anyway because it's a must for my surgeons office. We have to promise to be on birth control prove it and not get preg within a year after surgery. I might have to ask next week to see if i can see someone about getting some BC. I so need something.

I've had trouble getting a practitioner to insert an IUD. I think it's because of my age (I won't need bBC for 10 more years). First I went to the NP and she didn't want to insert it because I wasn't menstruating also she would only insert the mirena and I was looking for a the non-hormonal paragard. So I made an appointment at PP and specifically asked if I needed to be menstruating. I'm told no,make an appointment, wait in their waiting room for 2 hors, pay a $30 copay, only to be told that she wants me to either take cytotec and come back or come back when I'm on my period. Argh. So I let myself be talked into the nuvaring but it didn't agree with me (see earlier post). And the copay for that was $25, so I paid $55 for no viable BC! Truly, I think I'm going to wing it. At my age there is less that a 1% chance of me getting pregnant and an even lower chance of me having a viable pregnancy. Maybe I should leave it in God's hands. Doubt I'll do that but I am frustrated Thanks for listening ladies.

When did you see results?
porter11 replied to porter11's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks girl! Yeah it is harder to workout as much as I want too bc I work fulltime BUT I make sure to get some type of workout in at least 5 times a day. My second week after surgery I fell and busted both knees so I couldn't do any walking for a few days. Then my third week I got a sinus infection, ear infection, and stomach bug all at once so that delayed my workout too. How are you liking zumba? I have thought about doing that too. -
I get my fills at SCOR. But i have only had 1 fill...the 2nd time didn't work. And yes, they poke around blindly. ouch. I don't know any better bc the 1st fill was great, she found the port right away and that was it. The 2nd time the lady didn't know what she was doing and I ended up crying bc they freaked me out. The last time I was thinking to myself, would I have had this surgery if it was going to be like this??

What preops diet taught me
Leepers replied to ashemademe's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
To me, I found that hunger is just a sensation. Like when your neck hurts because you slept wrong. Hunger is not am emergency that needs to be immediately fed. I found that once I was able to control my response to hunger out became much easier to manage. -
How soon after surgery were yall driving? My dr said least 7 days. I'm having surgery in October and I'm kinda freaking bc 7 days is a long time. I have 5 kids so we are always on the go.

Now I've done it...I cheated on my Post-Op Liquid Diet
WonderWmn replied to kcweir's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I've had a few Starburst here and there... had two today actually but I'm diabetic and its to keep my sugar from bottoming out. I had a bad episode of low BS the week before my surgery because I was still taking my medication on the pre-op diet which was very low carb and I didn't actually need my meds. Well now since the surgery, I've had a few way too low BS days so I carry a pack of Starburst in my purse just in case and today was one of those days. I can't wait to start eating food soon so that I can get my levels back in order... good thing is no more meds for me  Don't punish yourself for cheating... we all got this way and needed surgery because we've cheated on our diets. Just remember what your goals are... health, family, swimsuit season 2010, lol... whatever yours might be and I personally did not go through all this to not reach my goals but I'm sure I'll have some bad days, I'm only human -
Banded 12/4...HAS BEEN HELL SINCE!!! HELP!
ashleyb replied to NurseRachel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow that's really scary! I'm so glad you made it through everything. I know i had some pain bc of the air that is left in your abdomen but other then that mine was ok. I wish i had some really good advice for you. I had my surgery march 3 of 09. And I've only lost like 10 lbs. So all i can say is i wish i couldn't eat anything or very little. I dont wish for the pain though. I have No restriction at all don't even feel like there's anything around my stomach and I'm on fill #7. So im on the other side of Banster Hell where i can eat anything no problems and have no restriction. All i can say is take it slowly always inform your doctor of any pain. And Congrats on your weight loss. -
What I am finding is if I am eating until I feel "full", I am overeating on my band and I don't lose. Doing as mentioned above, having a pre-measured portion, eating it in a slow 30 minute time frame and stopping at 30 minutes whether I "finished" everything or not, I find I am satisfied but not full. I start getting hungry again around 4 hours later. Getting hungry has meant feeling physical hunger pain, not just feeling like I have room to eat more. It is my body demanding fuel. I seldom felt that as an adult...I made sure I didn't apparently. Learning that feeling full (stuffed, or a sensation of physical fullness) means I have gone too far is probably one of the hardest parts for me. I'm having to redefine what it means to have eaten a meal. I always ate until stuffed (which I interpreted as "full"). And that will stretch my pouch and hinder what I am trying to accomplish here. Having adequate fills makes this easier, without a doubt. I just had my second fill this week to 6 cc in a 10 cc band and its easier than before. I don't get hungry until right at the 4 hour mark. I am not enamoured of feeling hungry I am finding and I am learning I did a lot of eating in large portions prior to my band in order to keep from ever feeling it. I would eat until stuffed and the way I knew it was time to eat again was by no longer feeling stuffed. I thought that was hunger and am learning its not! That was getting to "not hungry". I never got down to "hungry" before. Now I do. Its uncomfortable and unmistakable when my body is asking for food. And not eating simply because more food will fit has been a challenge, but I can't deny the results. I drop weight in chunks when I use my band correctly. The food trickling slowly through the stoma (opening) is what makes you feel full on less food. Rather than a big bunch at once, the stomach is fed food in small amounts. Best of luck to you as you adjust to your new life! I am pretty new at this, so I definitely don't proclaim to be any kind of an expert. Just sharing the observations that are starting to work for me.

How long after VSG were you able to bend over and pick something off the floor without pain? I have a special needs dog and debating sending her to the dog sitter. I don't want to send her bc then I will be worried about her & its an extra expense. But, I also don't want to add the burden on my caregiver. Thanks!

Chantix is a life saver n I'll be at 48 in 6 hours! It's not been too terribly bad once I actually got some stuff to occupy my hands and mouth with. But it wouldn't be near this easy without Chantix bc I'm having very little cravings and when I do they arent bad and don't make my skin crawl like I've experienced before when trying to stop. I suggest u get chantix from a Dr and start over if that's possible. My dr won't operate on smokers period. They don't know I did smoke when I scheduled surgery bc I knew I would quit about a month before surgery but anyway, it's worth it to get the surgery AND it will be awesome to be a NON SMOKER AND NOT FAT!!! We will be really healthy! I hope to do the peach tree road race next 4th of July, and that's just not possible If I smoke again. I'm done for life! As far as the car goes, yes that's horribly hard but get some peppermint sticks, get an electronic cigarette that is dead or has no stuff in if and hold it and puff on it. Cough drops help too, I like the strawberry breezers I think is what they are called. I'm using all 3 things I just said and it's not too bad! Best of luck! Johnathan

Okay, I was banded 12.01.09 and I have only lost 17lbs to date. I have had 3 fills and I still feel hungry after eating a saucer of food. I am not making horrible food choices, and I exercise at least 3 days a week. My surgeon for some reason will not tell me how much he has filled my band with...the last time i saw him, he was just fussing @ me and making me feel even worse than I already do. He says I am the worst patient he has ever had. Preop i was 296 and when I weighed myself today i was 279. I mean, I dnt know what i am doing wrong..I told my doc I can eat more than a saucer, he gave me a fill(i guess), but I still dnt have that feeling of being satisfied...the only difference I feel is when I eat certain foods like baked chicken, it is very hard for it to go down and I start having productive burps and the sliming starts. I have since moved to another city and my insurance doesnt kick in unitl june1st...i have an appt with another lapband doc here on the 2nd of june...maybe he can help me get on track...im just so upset and mad @ myself bc im not losing any weight. Is the intial weightloss supposed to be this slow? Maybe I shouldve gotten the gastric bypass. Anyone with any advice, plz help. Thanks:confused:
