Question about weight loss related to body shape
perfektlynrml replied to perfektlynrml's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a few suggestions for getting the muscle in the calves to thin out and some suggestions about loose skin. I lost all my weight at one point and had thick calves. I switched to non weight bearing exercises such as a exercise bike with no resistance and gradually the calves thinned out. Regarding loose skin. I swear by body brushing to lessen the loose skin. I went from 250 to 175 once and I used a natural boar bristle brush on my legs and thighs. It helped a lot. I also rubbed cocoa butter on my breasts and thighs daily. I was still loose but it helped. I'm due to have surgery in a few weeks and I have a new body brush and cocoa butter on hand. Good luck. Sent from my SM-A102U using BariatricPal mobile app -

When will I start losing?
Rogofulm replied to jes76's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You should start dropping weight soon as the swelling and Water retention subside. But also, here's a head's up – at about three weeks out you will stop losing again for 2-3 weeks. Don't freak out - it's normal and expected. After that the weight will start falling off again if you stick to your program. And really work to get your fluids in every day! It's important!!! -
Liquid and Food - timing issues
Cia2020 replied to AlwaysCruising's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My program is no fluids 10 minutes before meals and 30 minutes after and I can definitely tell if I drink too soon. It hurts and backs up on me. However, during the liquid stage I didn't have "meals" per se but fluid goals to meet, so I drank whatever went down that got me to my goals. Within 6 hours of surgery I could drink 1 ounce of protein fluid and 1 ounce of water, at the same time, every 15 minutes. I always took my meds with protein fluids to "coat" my stomach. Now in purees (started 2 weeks out), I follow 3 meals and 2 snacks with water all day between. Protein shake for breakfast and a lot of cottage cheese, greek yogurt, hummus, eggs, and pureed meats and pureed steamed veggies. I can eat way more volume than predicted in a sitting, though, and can drink 20 ounces of water in 45 minutes. I drink 70 to 90 ounces of water a day and get around 80 grams of protein. I have atypical GERD where it only flares with my asthma, but also mild gastritis so I'm on omeprazole for 3 months. I feel "hungry" a lot but often find that I am actually thirsty (or its head hunger and habit/boredom). I also bought some antacid chews and find 1-2 of those a day really cut down on the sharp feeling in my stomach. My doc says that the hunger and larger volume per meal will steadily decrease the more I move away from puree to soft to regular as solid food is more filling per volume. I've had a breakfast shake for years, so I will keep that to help with my protein goal but really hope to stop wanting to eat because I feel hungry soon. Plus it will be easier to make fewer separate meals when cooking for the family. -

I'm having my surgery in August I won't know the exact date for about two to three weeks. My surgeon Dr. Gandsas had to write to my insurance company to ask the move the date up fromSeptember because of the Barrett's. My hospital is Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis. -

Hi everyone :-) I live in Bethesda - Montgomery county. 2 weeks postop! Had my surgery 6/4. No issues, tolerating an almost regular diet, but moist foods go down best. Just started the zombies 5k app, trying to work out every other day. So far so good, 18 lbs down including the 2 week preop liquid diet. -

p3aCH3s replied to Goldy6575's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 1 week out today, and I still feel fatigued . I haven't had to take naps the past few days, but I feel like maybe in doing too much and I need to just lay down and relax . I don't think I will feel back to normal until about week 2. Good luck and congrats! -
Possible infected sutures
ShelterDog64 replied to nsunga's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@nsunga Are they swollen, red around the areas or hot? If they're just sore, that's okay, mine hurt for at least a week. If you really think they're infected, you should call your surgeon and be seen immediately. -
Just had my 6 week follow up and told I need to eat more

I'm 4 weeks tomorrow and I struggle to stay under 650-700. I still can't seem to corrolate anything with the days I lose vs the days I stay the same. Not water, carbs, protein, cals, exercise. -
two month follow up today
Shellbell333 replied to tigerbelle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I enjoyed the info. I'm like you and expect/ WANT to see more weight loss in 2 months........BUT, I really think it will stay off if it comes off slower. Some of your info surprised me like the protein and fluids numbers thats good for him. All n all, you're doing great. Loss and not gain is alway good. Do you know how many calories you are getting? If you are eating less than 500cals still, your body may be holding on to the fat thinking you are starving it. One post I looked at today said they increased there cal intake just a little and dropped 5 pounds in 1 week. The body.....a strange thing. GOOD LUCK -
First week & Second week
triplethreat replied to madisunshine1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My plan was different, I was only on clear liquids one day after surgery then went to full liquids for two weeks. I only had Protein shakes and Water. I'm in week 1 of soft foods which is a 2 week phase. I eat scrambled egg, cottage cheese, puréed foods, Greek yogurt, shredded soft cheese, Soup, etc. My team doesn't want me to worry about fat content or calories for the first two months-- just focus on liquids and protein. Hi everyone. I had my first and only fill to date about 5 weeks ago. It was 4cc in a VG band. I have had restriction since then (not enough, but some)and then this last week I am feeling much tighter. I go for a fill tommorrow and I wanted my doctor to go pretty aggressive with it , but now I don't know. It is hard for me to go to his office to get my fills because he is three hours away on a good day. Has anyone else had a fill 'kick in' after so long? My weight loss has been slow but I am losing and I don't have any PBs during or after I eat. Any advice? Thanks.

HMMMM?? Interesting. well i certainly don't have an answer for you but I do have a few questions. How long has it felt tighter? a day- a week? Is it that time of the month? Are you on any new meds? have you changed you exercise routine? possible salt intake? It could be a swelling sitaution in your stomach due to something? what I don't know, but may go away over a period of time. it is very interesting though- usually you hear of someone losing restriction over time. I can say that some days throughout a mnth I am very very tight & others I am wide open, so go figure. interesting-very interesting:0)

Weight loss has stopped :(
slowtogo replied to starr1512's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went to the doctor last week for my one year check up. I am at 160. Asked him what my goal was. He said, 160. Apparently, good blood tests and a bmi under 30 are what he seeks. It has taken me 4 months to lose 8 lbs. But maybe at that rate, by December I will be at 144. -
Need Advice! Please, Share Your Journey!
TisTrue posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Stay Safe and Hopefully Well/Healthy Everyone! Hi, I got the Loop Duodenal Switch almost a year ago, done June 2019. Please, if you post, say the surgery without abbreviating it, as I am not familiar with the initials/abbreviations of the surgeries, unless you want to post a list that would be appreciated too. I wanted to know if you ever experienced losing weight too fast. If so, did it ever slow down, or did you gain it back? I have been told that I might have to have revision surgery because I am losing at the same rate as when I first got surgery, which will be a year ago in June. I don't want another surgery, as it was pure hell the days and weeks after surgery, for multiple reasons. I was told that I could go as low as 95 lbs, but I am already at 134 now, supposedly one will slow down weight-loss once they have reached 50% of weight-loss or something to that degree for the Duodenal Switch Loop. I am just curious as to if you wouldn't mind sharing what your weight-loss journey has been like if it has been more than 1 year and especially if it has been more than 2 years. Were there any concerns over losing too fast? If so, what helped without a revision surgery? I have to say at one point weight-loss was fast, I was able to slow it down after I was told that I would need revision surgery after the 1 year mark, mostly by food journaling. This COVID-19 ridiculousness got me off track again of losing slowly even though I went back to journaling. I hate to say this but with my own journey, Although I start off by listening, I find that some of what a nurse/Dr. says sometimes is crap, so I want to make sure that the talk of me needing revision surgery is not more, crAp. What have you done, Help! I know that it may seem like a ridiculous thing to be alarmed about but I really can’t handle another surgery so I would like to know if this has happened to anyone else and what worked for you besides revision surgery. Thanks! -

I'm set for surgery on Sept 18th. I'm so excited!!! I wanted to know what are some suggestions on what to drink for my pre liquid diet. I'm doing it for a week or maybe 8 days. Plus I want to know others experiences with after surgery diet, what works best. What to take for hair skin and nails.

Doing exactly what my doctor told me to do! Exercise, take my Vitamins, and walk about 28 miles a week in which I've turned that into running! But i started with putting the treadmill at the highest incline it will go and the speed at 4.0.You burn three times the calories doing this.In an hour i would burn around 1200-1400 calories.

Had to go to 2 work dinners this week and was so anxious about the whole thing. Checked the menu in advance to make sure there was something I could eat at this stage. 1st place was fine but 2nd place had a limitied menu so had to order an entree and nibble on the mashed potatoes. Was anxious about eating so little, eating slowly and in both instances taking most of the food home, thankfully no one noticed/said a thing. It kinda made me sad to see people eating burgers, bread, having desert and not being able to eat. I mean I didn't want it but felt sad. I now dread eating out and don't think eating out socially will be fun anymore.

Terrified Of Eating Out!
marfar7 replied to Disabledaccount's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Loved eating out before and after my sleeve (was also banded for almost 4 yrs prior to revision). I may get blasted for this but I eat whatever I want. Anything and everything. The only thing I've found is a no no is ice cream. Im a slow learner so I've tried it 5x and every single time I get stomach cramps. The last time I was begging God to get me thru it and Id never eat ice cream again. I still eat burgers Iabout 1/3 of an In and Out Burger), pizza (1/2 normal slice), tacos (3/4 of a Del Taco chicken taco), sandwiches (1/3 of a small Quiznos sub), and buffets (yes, I said it, a buffet). Thank God I can only eat a small amt of food (maybe 6-8 bites of any given meal) so I'm slowly losing. That was my goal of wls, to never diet again. Not eating certain foods seems like dieting to me. Every restaurant (even greasy spoons) has something on there u can eat. I just noticed that ur only 4 weeks out. That changes everything. Forget what I just said (not really, otherwise I would've edited it ) I was still on full liquids at 4 weeks. While I did eat out a few times during this time, it wasn't as easy as it is now (4 mths post). Any restaurant will blend a soup for u (Red Robins clam chowder is yummy thru a blender) and if ur really adventurous, u can ask for anything put thru the blender. They may not recommend pizza in the blender but if ur willing, why not? Like I said, I luv eating out. I eat out 4-7 times a week. Brunch is my fav meal out. Good luck to u -

Try drinking something other than water. I CAN'T drink water! I drink Propel water. I've also been fine with Gatorade G2, Powerade Zero, vitamin water zero and something else that I don't recall that was sugar free. I have the exact same symptoms at 6 weeks out when I attempt water. -
I am 6 weeks out and stalled!
BLERDgirl replied to thintrappedinafatbody42's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your body is adjusting to the next phase of eating. Of course we see big drops between surgery and those 1st 2 weeks post-op. At my 2 week appt I had lost 24lbs and I didn't have to do a liquid pre-op diet! But now we're adding purees, some of us are adding soft foods. It's more for the body to grab and hold onto. Also most of us aren't sore so eating is easier. Between my 2nd & 6th week I only lost 6lbs. I'm not upset because it's still a loss. I recommend not becoming scale obsessed. It will make you CRAZY. Personally I don't go near a scale until I see the doctor. If you must weigh, limit it to once a week and try and make it the same time every week. -
