  1. Not only do I have the lap band but I work in surgery and see patients all the time have this procedure done. I have run across old and new threads about all three being months post op. Well here is the thing and I hate when people get frantic because they dont know what is wrong and want to take their band out or get the by pass done just sayin. I am 10 months post op. I often had and have shoulder pain but shoulder pain comes from over eating. Everyone has a nerve in their stomach that runs from the stomach to the shoulder when you have over eaten and the band presses on that nerve you will have pain. If you are havng this problem then whatever you are eating cut it in half. You also might have inflammation in your stomach so give it a rest of 72 hours. Go back to the diet you had when you came home from the hospital and start over. For gas and bloating my culprit was cinnamon in my coffee and spices and talking while eating, chewing gum, after I stopped all that the gas and bloating stopped. Also start drinking some probiotics dan active, eating activia yogurt, and use gas x until the symptoms stop. You probably are going back to your old eating ways at some point and you just cant. We have to stay on the diet, follow the diet or else you start having side affects you didnt have before. But dont talk about taking out your band until you have tried what you were doing before all that started. Hope it helps I really do.

    Mushies early?

I was having potato soup, yogurt, mashed potatoes and farina Cereal by the end of the first week. Not very much at a time, but enough to make me feel better. I mainly followed the Cornell University guidelines. http://www.cornellweightlosssurgery.org/pdf/dietary_guidelines_sleeve_gastrectomy.pdf Everyone is different. I certainly wouldn't over do it or add anything too substantial. Listen to your body and act accordingly.

    Reaching Goal

The more weight you have to lose, the faster you will lose. You can't compare your loss to others, because everyone is different. I was 195 and now am 130. I only had 55 lbs. to lose but it was all in my abdomen and heading towards my heart. I had to have a two hour repair before he did my sleeve because 1/3 of my stomach had protruded through my diaphragm and was lodged between my lungs. I am 5' 4" and 62 years old. My surgery was 12/14/11. I have gone from a size 18 jeans to a size 4. If you are in a stall, try LilMissDivas Boot camp on here. There is no way you are not going to lose if your stomach is so tiny and you are not hardly consuming any calories. You will lose! Try focusing on measurements and see how many inches you have lost, but don't get discouraged. You will succeed.

    Reaching Goal

I have but I did not have alot of weight to lose. My goal was only 65 lbs and I lost it by 9 months.. I will be 10 months next week. The more weight you have to lose, the faster you will lose.
  6. My surgeon says normally people take off two weeks, but it also depends on how physically demanding your job is.
  7. Did anyone have to take Atenolol pre-op? It is a beta-blocker. They told me to take it one week pre-op which I started yesterday but I am not sure why I am taking it. I am putting a call into the office today.

    surgery 2/11 Atenolol

Yes, I had to start taking it one week pre-op and on the day of surgery as well as post-op. I called and spoke to the nurse and she said it was because I have a history of hypertension. When is your surgery?

I drank wine bout 5 weeks out, had no effect on me
  11. i had my consult on friday and the dietician said i needed to do the liquid diet for atleast a week before hand, as that is what catergory bmi i am in, however, i was thinking it might be worth doing this for 2 weeks, she said it was up to me, however, i do not want to mess up, becasue i have decided to do longer. should i stick with a week?
  12. I read here on another thread that it actually takes 6 weeks to shrink your liver. The point of the liquid diet is to make your fatty liver less slimy so it can be pushed aside easier. Thats why for higher BMIs you do the pre opt, but for BMIs below 40, they dont require it. The poster is the one who wrote the thread about how to shop for a Mexican doctor and seemed to know her stuff.

    Sleeping

I slept on my side as soon as I got home from hospital which was day 4, but I had a pillow that I had to prob my belly on so that it didn't feel like anything was pulling. I'm 2.5 weeks out now and I still have my pillow handy.

    Alcohol?

Sounds like you're speaking from experience Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I had the smallest sip of communion wine without thinking at like week 4 or 6 or something and it felt terrible. And that is diluted. I can't even imagine what Vodka would feel like. I dumped one time, not alcohol related and it was the worst feeling in the world for hours. It was like an after-school special.

    leg pain?

Shin splints. I was in the same boot back in 2003, when I first decided to start walking. I began by walking a few hundred feet, but within six months I was walking for two or three hours a day through the farm fields and trails in the nearby woods. I never thought I could do it when I started... and I remember the sore shins! That will clear up with time, and you will find your stamina will increase with each passing day. It is good to have a walking partner. My last lab loved to walk, and she would throw a fit until I got her leash for her daily jaunt.
  16. Band to sleeve conversion 9/12. I know this is a silly question and was probably a topic in the past. I have a wedding this weekend with a reception party after. I am planing on bringing my Water and will also bring a Protein shake since I'm still on all liquids for the next couple of weeks. I know everyone will be drinking and having fun which is completely fine. My question is I wonder if it would be completely crazy to have a single vodka tonic. Has anyone had a drink this early post op and if so, how was it? My fear is a tummy that feels like it's on fire. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Sleeping

Slept on my side about 1 week out with a pillow under my stomach.. no later than 2 weeks I have been back to belly sleeping ever since.
  18. For the first six months of my post-op weight loss, the scale was oddly consistent. I have a digital scale that measures to the tenth of a pound, but I never saw gradual drops - just drops of a pound, or a pound and a half. So, I'd go 3-4 days with no change at all, exactly the same weight down to a tenth of a pound, and then I'd lose a pound. Or I'd go 6 days seeing exactly the same number, than I'd drop a pound and a half. Mostly, I found it amusing. I mean .... seriously ... you'd think there'd be at least a little variation from day to day! Now, for the past two weeks, I'm all over the place. Down 2 pounds, up a pound and a half, down .3, up .7, down .5.... I haven't been the same weight two days in a row for the whole two weeks! Bizarre.... Nothing else has really changed, I'm more or less eating the same foods, getting the same amount of exercise, drinking the same amount of Water. Maybe it's because I'm getting closer to goal? Oh well, at least it's more interesting....

    Overwhelmed!

Hi I am 3 weeks post op. Just start small. I stock my fridge and freezer with stuff I knew would work. I bought a bag of frozen chicken legs. I was told dark meat tended to be more moist. I also bought various types of fishing Talapia, Whitening, salmon, I bought a cornish hen, smal packages of ground sirloin, turkey meatballs. I also bought an assortment of veggies ( canned, and frozen). I picked up a number of marinades ( lemon pepper, terrikaki). I made sure items to prepare tuna salad , chicken salad, egg salad. I found some reduced fat crackers to go along with that. I kept snack foods ( cottage chees, hummus, string cheese, applesauce). With this list I know that any given time I can prepare dinner and have leftovers for lunch. My meals consist of a Protein (fish, chicken , turkey) and a veggie. My thought was to slowly ease myself back into regular foods and just keep it simple at first. Hope this helps. I am down 29 pounds since the liquid diet. Take care

    surgery may 21st

Hi Girls How has your week been, mine has been really busy because I went back to Work on Monday... I hope you are all feeling as fantastic as I am, the pain in my shoulders from the gas has finally gone away. But I am feeling the old hunger pains returning, they are pretty easy to ignore though, I keep telling myself that I am trading food for losing kilos.... I am going to start walking this week because I haven't lost any weight for the past 3 days, which is depressing after losing a kilo a day after the surgery, has any one else's weight slowed down... I have 4 more days until I go on to pureed foods, who would have that would excite anyone... But I am looking forward to Shepards Pie and some Rice pudding.. Cheers

    surgery may 21st

Hello Ladies...I am being banded on May 20th also. As far as a pre-op diet my doc says to try and lose a "little weight", as to shrink my liver to make the surgery easier for him. I am trying...I only had three weeks for this and did okay in the beginning but now my "nervousness" reaction is making me nibble on more. So today, for three days I am trying to do high protein liquids. GOOD PRACTICE I think. I do have a BBQ B-day party on Sunday, but plan to take my protein drink. I figure it's time for reality! I pray that we all are safe and successful, and that angels will be all around us!! God Bless, ChristyC

I did 3 weeks of slim fast then i strayed alittle for the past 2weeks . since the start of march to now i have lost 23 lbs. Tonight i had some "POOR" choices but im calling today my last day for food really. Tomorrow is pre -op and i have no clue what that entails for me. But im pretty sure im back on slim fast and vegs/fruit with some Protein until may 21st when i get my band. I hope that was enough for my liver and the past few days and some choices here and there wont hurt me when i go in this week. ~~jessica

    In the beginning...

I've gone to see Dr. Gornichec. He seemed to be really nice. I also got to meet Janice. She seemed really nice as well. I got all my materials together and got them to Dr. Gornichec's office. I'm so glad that I mailed my medical requests off way before I saw the doctor. That way the insurance processing seems to be going fast from the get go. No papers to wait on. Today I got the phone call saying when my psychological is scheduled for and my blood work and x-rays, etc. I sure hope that my insurance company will move this fast as well. I'll try to remember to post again after each of my appointments this week. :kiss2:
