colds when sleeved?
S(he) be(lie)ve(d) replied to KarenF1972's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was Sept 8th. At my 3 week post-op mark, my kids brought home head lice. I had to clean like a freak, do massive amounts of laundry and treat & check 3 heads, plus mine. My hubby just shaved his hair. Lol! I paid for it by over doing it and actually ended up taking some pain meds I had left over, plus some valium from having my hiatal hernia repair done at the same time, as well. Because I over did myself, I ended up getting sicker than a dog with a nasty head cold. I had been down for 4 days and completely exhausted. I could not function. Then my 8 year old comes home with a concussion. Oh dear God! I am at wits end. I literally cannot handle anything else right now. My husband has been a saint thru this whole thing. I ended up calling my Nut because I was having extreme pain in my left shoulder on my collar bone when I would eat. It would last for 15 minutes afterward. She told me to take a step back in my foods and go back to really soft mushies. October 7th, my birthday, would have been the day when I can eat normal foods. My nut said it is a referred pain from my hiatal hernia repair. My esophagus is enflamed, as well as my hiatal hernia repaired area. So, eating won't be as easy again until the swelling goes down and the coughing settles down too. I also have to increase my Protein in take to 100g and no less than 64 oz of Fluid everyday. My body is trying to still recover from surgery and is also really trying to fight a nasty cold. So, it doesn't leave me with much of anything to have any energy at all. I am grounded to the couch for another 2-3 days to recover. I've already been there for 4 days. I think I've grown roots already. Ha! I hate just sitting/laying down doing nothing. But, I also feel horrible. I've also been advised not to go to a funeral that is out of town for obvious reasons. Either have to take care of getting myself feeling better and stay on the down low or end up in the ER. So, I am being a couch potato and sprouting roots. Being sick with the sleeve in the 1st month of recovery makes everything about 10 time harder. Trust your doctors and keep healthy, even if you have to post pone. Hopefully, my light at the end of the tunnel will appear in the next couple days. I am so anxious to not be sick anymore and just focus on becoming the healthy me again!!! -
returning back to work
mommyof3sweetboys replied to DOMINICANA88's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went back after one week. I teach college so I don't do anything physically strenuous. I don't think I could have done a lot of standing that 2nd week. -
I'm two weeks post-surgery and just transitioned over to soft food. I was actually pretty surprised how easy getting fluids and things like yogurt down was. I can drink a 20 oz bottle of Water in 15-20 minutes, 6 oz thing of yogurt in 15 minutes, a cup of blended chili, etc.. That last two nights I've had tuna fish salad and scrambled egg. I was thinking my sleeve must be huge if I can eat 6 oz of yogurt or a cup of chili without batting an eye. 1/2 cup of tuna fish salad - I'm DONE. Can't even think of another bite. 1 egg with a little cheese on it - DONE. I'm glad to see the restriction kick in big-time for more solid foods. It does make me understand more about "sliders", "eating around the sleeve", "cheating the sleeve", etc.

Omgosh I can't take this

I'm 3 weeks post op and have no issues drinking normally. I haven't tried to chug anything because it feels better to just drink normally. -
Thank you! I think I'm mostly panicked because I've been stalled for three weeks, rather than just in week three 😓

How long for this stall?
JinaLeah replied to shakur154's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I was sleeved 3/6. For the last week I have lost and gained the same 2lbs The doc told me today it was normal. That in the first couple of weeks you lose because you lose water and muscle. Then it will take your body a little bit to adjust. I know I weigh day and night lol. She said the same, weigh once a week. Keep up on your protein and water. It will happen At least it better -
Food not so enjoyable
jennyqp replied to SleeveDreams's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
From what I can tell you are just sleeved this month. You definitely won't be able to eat much. I am 8 months out and love food. I eat small portions. But it still is not as enjoyable as before sleeve. But that's a good thing. It will get better for you. I regretted the surgery for probably the first three months. After that I am 200% on board -
Try to be patient. I know it's hard but everyone loses weight at their own pace. I had an ESG on June 19th and at my 2 week post op, Dr. said I should be losing only 1 to 2 pounds a week from that point on since my starting bmi was in the low 30's. Make sure to follow your meal plan and success will follow. I know it can be a bummer not seeing the scale move more. If I could snap my fingers and be thin tomorrow I would. But I can't so I will have to be happy with 1 to 2 pounds a week. Hang in there! You are not alone!!!

Good Sources of Carbs
catwoman7 replied to GummyBearQueen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my program was a balanced one vs one of the ultra-low-carb ones, but regardless, we were told to focus on protein and fluids during the early weeks, since those are important for healing. -

Returning to work
ready_forchange replied to ready_forchange's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had three csections, and did everything myself too. I also had my gallbladder removed, and was lifting an infant carrier a week later, my baby alone was 15 pounds then. Ive heard this is alot easier than both. I didn't take in pain meds after having my csections so I should be good. I just want to try to get back to cleaning after 2 weeks. I hope I feel like it by then. Thank you so much for your input it really puts me at ease -
Friday Morning Weigh Ins - 12 Sept 2008

I finally saw some movement this week. I'm down 3 pounds. I was hoping for more, but I had my monthyl visitor...so I guess 3 pounds is good enough. I had my first fill last week and get my next one next week. I think I need a bit more restriction to cut out the munchies and desire to eat more than I should. I'm walking 5-6 days a week for 30 minutes. I have to work on getting up early enough to add my toning video! Next week is going to be the best week EVER! I can feel it! Good job to ALL of us! -

I have been very busy and haven't logged on in the last 10 days. I lost 5 lbs this past week for a total of 25. My exercise is still only walking as my doctor wants me to wait until six weeks before working out. I am really looking forward to my first fill and being able to work out. Godd luck and keep up the great work everyone. -

This is my fourth week post-band, my first week in mushies, so I'm surprised and delighted (and confused?) by a 6 pound loss this week. Last week: 216 This week: 210??!? I have been hungry, really hungry, but I'm terrified of stretching something, so I'm only eating 1/2 cup at a meal, 50+ g of Protein, and averaging about 700-800 calories. I feel as if I should be eating more calories, but I don't know how to do it and only eat 1/2 cup at a meal. I guess a trip to the nutritionist is in order. -
i had my surgery a week ago and just wanted to introduce myself...i am from houston so give me a shout.

I too am new to this forum, I was banded on 11/15 in Plano by Dr. Cribbins. Will be 2 weeks tomorrow and I am down 15 lbs. I also seem to be losing inches as my clothes don't feel nearly as tight! Yeh! Long way to go... Anyone have any ideas on how to load the ticker symbols? BSB1224 Banded Nov. 15, 2005 Dr. Cribbins, Plano, TX

I am only a bit over two weeks out from surgery and have a long way to go. I lost 39 lbs prior to surgery and am currently down 55 pounds. My wedding rings are beginning to get too big. I don't want to take them off for over a year and I don't want to have them resized every few months. Anybody find a solution? THANKS!! Carol RNY 6/25/13; HW 330; SW 291; CW 275; GW 160

Random post op diet question
Ang~10~17~17 replied to KDBaker's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I go out I bring a Core Power shake in the car. I’m still on purée for one more week. And I was out for the first time alone and felt very dizzy while driving. So I won’t do that again. -
time to consume a shake?
Casie83 replied to Josh2xh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm only 2 weeks out but it takes me about 2 hours to drink a whole shake. Now water I tolerate better and can drink a glass in about 30 minutes but the shakes are really hard for me. I asked my surgeon at my post op and he said most people struggle the first few weeks with getting in the 64oz. But it makes us try harder to reach the 64oz. But as you see everyone has different restriction. I just try to keep a glass of liquid nearby and my goals this week are to get in 2 protein shakes each day, hopefully it will get easier but it's a lot of work at the moment. -
Thanks for the heads up Inner Surfer Girl. Tomorrow is my 2 week post-op appointment with the surgeon and I had no idea of where I should be with lbs lost.

Two weeks post-op
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Newme16's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Welcome! It sounds like you are doing great. Getting in your Protein and Fluid is the most important thing right now. You are right on track. Just a heads up, you will probably stall about week three which is completely normal. Embrace the Stall! http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall -
Stalls are part of the journey, and there isn't much you can do about it. I just keep to my plan and eventually the scale will move again. I know this isn't exciting advice, but there isn't much you can do about it.

What have you all done to counteract / overcome your stalls?

May 20th sleevers how are y'all doing?
mommadeb replied to ummsantos's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery on 5/28/13 and preop weight of 205. I'm 3 weeks out and I'm at 187 so I'm down 18. I've not lost a single pound this 3rd week! Anyone else not loose?
