Re-sleeve to Bypas
catwoman7 replied to Rocky4521's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
there are actually several people who've had this revision - in fact, I've run across some who've gone from lapband to sleeve to bypass. Hopefully someone who's been through it will chime in. -

At the end of the day it comes down to calories and food choices but the bypass should have malabsorption -

Having my revision on 8/3 from sleeve to bypass due to hernia. Can I loose weight my doctor says it as fast as the first one but wondering how much on the average. Also, are there any major differences in the recovery? I was pain free in the first one and walking the first day -

I had sleeve 2016 and in August will be having bypass due to a hernia. I was wondering if u still loose weight my doctor said I won’t loose much or at least as fast as the first time -
HI! I was wondering if anyone has gone from gastric sleeve to re-sleeve to bypass. Yes I know third revision 🥺 however my GERD has become horrible. So my surgeon wants to convert to bypass. My sleeve was done in 2011 and re-sleeve 2015. Need some input from experience!! Thanks!!

Has anyone done the sleeve or bypass for non-weight related reasons? I did it for my severe asthma. I haven’t taken my inhaler since the day before I went in for surgery and I’m 5 weeks out. I feel like it’s extremely difficult to stick to my meal plans because I never had a food problem before.

I had a gastric sleeve in 2012 and went down to 167. I'm 5'11" so I looked great. I gained weight after the 5 year mark and went up to 235 [I was originally 280] and I was so depressed. I got a revision sleeve. First 2 weeks I lost 5 lbs each and then BAM nothing week 3 and GAINED 3 lbs week 4. I swear to you if I'm even getting 1200 calories once a week that's a lot and I walk for miles. Anyone else have this experience and any words of hope? Hanging by a thread.

Doctors office called looks like insurance jumped the gun and somebody sent an authorization. BUT...they will not cover the SADI...so, we are going gastric bypass!!!🤨 Glad to be getting it done, but wish they wouldnt have got my hopes up.

Loving life, feeling amazing, 9 months post op check in :)
New&Improved posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well guys this is my monthly check in or check up. i hope I'm able to offer some inspiration to those who are yet to have surgery or still deciding. But I have got to say this roux en Y gastric bypass operation has saved my life!!! It's officially 9 months since I had my surgery here in Australia and it has been amazing, a breeze, no issues at all and lost weight consistently every month. I've been in maintenance now 3 months pretty much with my weight sitting on average 165lbs but I've also seen 163,164 and 165. i still weigh myself most days; it's a habit. i don't worry about logging my food but I do keep a mental note of my intake calories; I still use shakes most days as some days I'm not hungry but others day I am really hungry... I can eat mostly anything without any major issues and my weight has not changed at all which is great. So 9 months since surgery and 11 months since preop diet. Feeling amazing; looking great; starting to feel confident finally and my birthday coming very soon. Had to buy some more clothes once again even though my weight isn't changing I think my body composition is changing like overtime your skin may retract and I think mine is doing it naturally or via gravity either way it's Great. 159lbs lost at my lowest weight but as I said my weight can vary a few lbs from day to day. I'll be 36 very soon but I look and feel 26 and can't wait to start living life and finding a lovely lady. My journey is over but I still have to keep focused and make sure I monitor my weight for the long term. i just want to say it is possible to be successful. It is possible to lose ALL your excess weight and keep it off... Thank you. Photos attached Positive feedback appreciated. -

I had a revision 6/24/20. My sleeve was in 2013 and tummy tuck/brachioplasty 2014. My revision was by far the most painful! Month out now and feeling good! -
Lab test done year plus after surgery - delay due to covid
Arabesque replied to 2Bsmaller18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mmmm? You pose any interesting question. I have blood work done about every 3 months. (Just had one yesterday for my surgeon’s appointment next week.) My GP orders some when I visit her & my surgeon when I visit him. They were watching my liver function for a while so I’m not sure if that was the motivation or if it’s the usual practice. (I am fortunate that my GP & surgeon & his team work well together.) I would have thought you would have regular tests because of your bypass & because your vitamin B levels were so high. You can always ask your GP for a blood test if you are concerned that the time between tests is too long. -
Lab test done year plus after surgery - delay due to covid
2Bsmaller18 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My bypass was Feb. 2019. I had labs done at 4 months and 9 months post (Dec. 2019). My surgeon is pretty lax and just mentioned having labs done annually unless there's an issue that needs closer monitoring. In Dec my Vit B was crazy high but I have read that's normal from the high dose vitamins. He had mentioned doing labs again this summer. I take a Pro Care vitamin daily and now they have less Vit B (still crazy high amount) so I am curious if my numbers are closer to a normal range but I am not having any obvious issues and am religious about taking my vitamin. So my question is do I go ahead and have labs done now since it's only been 7 months from the last labs and repeat next summer or do I wait? I really don't want to go into a lab where they have people getting tested for Covid. I don't know if I should just do it now or wait until December when it's been a full year but will still have people getting tested for Covid. -

Hi Meow and fellow bypassers! I have had three rounds of vomiting so far; twice with fish and once with soft, white watermelon seeds. I approach my protein sources very cautiously now and have only had tuna, salmon, scallops, and two tiny bites of my husbands chicken breast. I have no desire for tuna again, as that was the first thing that made me sick. The scallops are lovely! I have only lost about 7 pounds since surgery, which is bumming me out, but I am just sticking with the program. I eat around 500-600 kcals per day and generally get 60 + grams of protein, 64 oz water. I am walking most days for 20-30 minutes and averaging around 7000 total steps daily. I probably need to up my kcals a bit, but it is hard without adding fat and/or more carbs. I get plenty of carbs from beans and occasional whole grain bread or crackers plus incidentals in dairy. I feel good and went back to work on Monday (2 weeks off). My energy is great, but I am tired by 8 pm. Thinking best thoughts for all my pre- and post-op buddies out there! -

Weighing in this morning at 165.8. I am 2 months post op from my revision from VSG to GP today. I lost 2 lbs this month and am 1 lb away from my lowest weight last summer. I dont expect to lose anymore weight but if I do I will take it as a buffer. I would like to stay under 170 for life !! I had my first episode of too much food the other day. I ate pork steak and being too full made me sick but I could not throw up, so I was miserable for almost 2 hours !! I didnt weigh it but I am guessing it was around 4 to 5 oz. Never again. So I do have restriction with solid protein but I think I ate too fast and by the time my brain caught up it was too late ! The restriction is not the same as with VSG but it is restriction although I cant explain it. I quit tracking my food around the 5th of July because I noticed my weight creeping up a little. For some reason I do better not tracking after I get going, this happened with my VSG. In Jan of 2019 I quit tracking and lost around 10 lbs and kept it off all last summer. The only thing I can think is I was obsessed with food and stayed to focused on it tracking and would eat up to X amount of calories and protein even if I wasnt hungry. I was like oh I didnt get all my calories so I will just have this ect ect ect. I am weird I know, lol. I am still having the burning acid from time to time, but it isnt as often as it was with the sleeve. I am hoping my esophagus is healing but wont know anything until I go see the Dr. for my checkup in August and am scheduled for an EGD. I think I have another hiatal hernia. I say this because sometimes I feel like something is stuck in my throat when eating like before just not as often. All in all I am doing much better then I was at the beginning of this bypass and am getting use to it. -

@Groovymommy Happy 1 month! Great to hear from you! Cheers to feeling unbelievably normal. And being able to poop. And having a "break thru" regarding the way you see food! You are killing it! @Repeatingthoughts How are YOU? I'm doing well. I've just started feeling "normal-ish" after some unexplained pain last week. My surgeon sent me in for an ultrasound to rule out gallstones. But by the time my appt rolled around the pain was nearly gone. Lasted about 4 days. So who knows. I went to an imaging center. Didn't get the results yet but don't expect any gallstones. I've lost 20 pounds as of today and today is the 6 week mark. I will say my daughter took a video of me dancing tonight and I watched it and was shocked at how heavy I am. I have avoided cameras and certainly videos for the last couple years since ballooning up in weight and I guess I was seeing myself as smaller in my head since losing the 20. It was a wake up call. To press ahead. Groovy I admit I haven't been taking my calciums. I decided to wait until my first bloodwork to see if I was calcium deficient. I've read it can increase your risk of kidney stones and I've had one and I don't want one again. I have several servings of dairy a day. So we'll see. I'll start them if I need to. My appt for blood work is at 7 weeks so a week from today. @613cnn I too have made a few discoveries I wish I hadn't. I've mentioned sugar in moderate amounts doesn't bother me at all. I was very happy about that at first. But now I'm seeing how that might, in the long run, be a bad thing. I did have a low blood sugar episode after walking in the park the other evening. Felt great when walking, then got home and realized I was low. I grabbed an oat and nut bar my husband had purchased at Whole Foods. It had chocolate chips in it but I picked them out, however it also had honey in it and as I was low I ate it. I had about a third of the bar before I realized it. Felt certain I was going to throw up for about 45 unhappy minutes. But I didn't., thank goodness (still wonder if I'm physically able). Anyway, the next morning I felt GREAT. It was interesting. That's about all I have to share. I'm getting 60 pro a day. Still working on 64 water. Eating about 600-700 cals a day and keeping carbs around 30. I'll update when I get the ultrasound results back and have my bloodwork done next week. Would love to hear from everyone. ONWARD BYPASSERS!! Thanks for checking in, Repeating! -
Gastric Band Revision To Sleeve
Foxbins replied to Barbwired's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I did not have reflux before I had my sleeve, I developed it about 2 years after surgery. It made my life miserable. I regurgitated everything I swallowed, woke up in the middle of the night with acid filling my mouth and throat, and developed an esophageal stricture from the acid. I loved my sleeve and worked with a surgeon for several years to try to come up with an alternative to a bypass. We considered several options but none were as likely to work as well as bypass. I had mine on 6/29 and it has been a life-changer. No more acid. No more regurgitation. No more cutting food into tiny pieces to fit down a 12mm esophagus. Please, think long and hard about a sleeve if you have reflux now. I was afraid of dumping, too, but so far, haven't. -
Gastric Band Revision To Sleeve

Thanks, it sounds awful and it's what is making me afraid of the bypass. -
The time will fly it feels like I only had surgery a month ago but it's actually coming up to 9 months ago and I've done amazing. Had the BYPASS.

Gastric Band Revision To Sleeve
joleza replied to Barbwired's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
i have had the band to sleeve revision. i am only one week out but i tell you this. the sleeve surgery was much less painful than the band. surprisingly so. i got sick of fills, and oops, too much fill, and finally after 15 years, my band failed. hoping for the best! -
Thanks so much for sharing. I will not get the bypass. This whole Covid thing makes it harder too because a big part of the reason I've put this weight on is because I went from doing fitness bootcamp 1 hour a day 5 days a week to doing almost nothing once my gym closed. The struggle is real. 😞

July 2020 Surgery anyone?
BLUV replied to IWantTheDream's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
good luck everyone, my revision is Thursday 23.... -
Personally i would have NEVER chosen to have my band (2009) removed just because. If it's not giving you trouble, i would leave it alone. After mine was ER removed 2017 (143lbs) about 2 weeks later, hunger came back with a vengeance. I couldn't get a revision because i "didn't weigh enough". I had no problems until the stomach virus that caused violent vomiting...... NOT the bands fault, NOT my fault.... It wasn't until 2.5 years and a gain of 30lbs that i paid out of pocket 14K to have the sleeve done 8/2019. Starting weight with that 173ish. Today i weigh 124lbs. and even with the weight loss i still preferred the band. I liked the control i had with the band. As far as the removal. That was on a Thursday and i was back at work on Monday. Sleeve was done on a Wednesday and back at work on Monday I say this to all my band friends...... if you feel like your band stopped working for you ... it didn’t, you just stopped using it...

@Barbwired. It IS a tough decision. I strongly recommend that you have a heart-to-heart with your surgeon about it. I saw your other post on it and I totally understand your reluctance to do bypass. I was the SAME way. I didn't want it then and I don't want it now. I will do everything I can to avoid that and told my GI doctor so. That's why he recommended the Stretta or Linx. If it makes you feel any better, I went without my Lap-Band for years and was able to largely maintain my weight. In 2014, my life turned upside down and I used food to cope. Managed to gain all my weight back by 2016. It took me an additional 2 years to decide to have the sleeve.

@Barbwired Having reflux after the sleeve is a bit of a coin toss. Some get it. Some don't. Before being sleeved, I had a discussion with my doctor about reflux potential and they always gave me a non-commital answer with a cautionary warning. Ultimately, my doctor and I felt that my reflux was largely related to dietary practices, a general state of obesity, and a small hiatal hernia that I had. A friend of mine had really bad reflux with the lap band to the point she had Barrett's esophagus. Her surgeon actually recommended the sleeve and she's had NO ISSUES with reflux after it. Me, I started getting heartburn within a month of having the sleeve. I immediately started taking Nexium, which took care of the heartburn. Flash forward to about a year. I was waking up with a sore throat that I knew was reflux. It kept getting worse and while I have never woken up choking, I knew the reflux was a problem. I tried every home remedy and every reflux supplement I could find. I modified my eating and behavior to reduce reflux. I sleep on a wedge. When the reflux is at its worst, my wedge can be at about 45°. It's not sleeping "sitting up", but pretty darn close. I saw a gastroenterologist and told him that I wasn't interested in revision to bypass. He offered me a choice between Stretta and Linx. I was in the process of scheduling Stretta when COVID hit. Today, my reflux isn't really that bad. I'm not 100% sure why it's been better, but I'm not looking that gift horse in the mouth. I sleep on my lower wedge and am comfortable with that. I do not eat after 7pm. If I do, I will generally go to bed later than usual or make sure I've had a whole glass of water before bed (flush out the sleeve). I take my Nexium religiously every morning and I take digestive enzymes with my evening meal (THAT seems to have made a BIG difference in my reflux). I have prescription Carafate, but haven't needed it for about 2 months. Best of luck.
