    August Surgery buddies

It's amazing how during the week, your weight fluctuates really badly like 2kgs up but one week exactly on the official weigh in. I am 1 kg down! 96.7 kg today! I really thght my loss would've been faster like at least 2kgs a week but I'm happy! Less loose skin, more sustainable so yay

Let's Talk GRIEF! An ongoing thread about bariatric grief!

Its early days, lots of us find some foods totally repellant, for me it was foods that I loved. pre surgery. Chicken, fish and especially salmon were very off my menu. If I even thought of them I heaved. It was like being pregnant all over again. Then some kind soul on here explained that as we loose fat cells they release hormones. Early on we are flooded with these cells because we are loosing so rapidly. It does settle down as weight loss slows. At 3+ years fish isnt totally off my menu but it isnt front and centre either. Eggs revolted me before surgery, now I eat them most days.
  3. I talked with my doctor about the stomach noises. He said it was normal. When I hear them, it’s my normal stop point if I haven’t finished yet anyway. Carrots took me a long time to get to. Cooked veggies were better the whole first year for me. I tend to like cooked veggies in the winter and raw vegetables in the summer and fall. Spring is a mix. Keep drinking your water. It helps with lovely skin, but also digestion and understanding true hunger signals.

    So excited!

@Mspretty86 so when you first get them they are HUGE, high up your chest, tight because they are so swollen. So yea once they settle they appear smaller because the swelling is gone. When I tried the sizes with the silicon inserts during my "pick the size" appt its a pretty close visual of what I have now. I knew I wanted a DD because of my build and height. If I would've gotten smaller then it wouldn't have looked like I had anything done. I had skin sacs and I am super happy with what I have, they look great in tops, my waist looks smaller, and overall a good decision on the size.
  5. Another thing that really surprises me post surgery is how quickly my weight drops if I don't eat well and frequently (every 1-2 hours). I have been eating less the past 6 days and already dropped 2.5 kgs (I was at a BMI 19 to begin with, I already felt too thin, now I feel like I'm skin on bones). This would've never been the case prior to surgery. Never thought losing too much weight, or stopping the weight loss would have ever been things I had to battle, but hey, I'd rather this than the other way around!
  6. I'm doing okay, lost another 10 pounds and still waiting for my surgery day to come. One more nutrition consult. Today is my birthday and went out to a restaurant for lunch with my husband. I had Lamb, it was s o good, and enjoyed them so very much, good source of protein. Otherwise I'm just hanging out, doing as many support groups as possible, and I am learning to love me for who I am. I look forward to the saggy baggy skin, and the removal thereof. Tomorrow, heading out to the pool for a couple of hours of a workout, and hopefully work off some of that lamb I had today. LOL
  7. I'm not sure about Aetna, but a lot of policies won't cover skin removal unless it's causing health-related issues (e.g., chronic rashes that don't respond to conventional treatments). If you have something like that, be sure to see a doctor about it so it's documented in your medical file, since the insurance company will want documentation that it's causing health issues. as far as experience with plastic surgery, I had lot of it (lower body lift, breast lift, arm lift, face lift, neck lift). Lower body lift (LBL) is pretty painful since they do both liposuction and muscle tightening with that (if you just get a pannelectomy (sp?) rather than a full LBL, it's probably not as painful - but the LBL has more extreme and natural-looking results). The rest - arms, breast, face, neck - weren't too bad. Arms were kind of a pain, though, since you can't reach up for a while - which is really hard to remember to do! Plastic surgery can be painful and expensive, but I'm glad I had it done.

    I'm Overweight!

I am destined to never know what my BMI / weight would be with skin removal. I could only afford one round so would worse than now. I don't think the NHS can afford to start this surgery again so I am destined to be overweight for ever !
  9. @AmberFL the breast augmentation, The breast lift, and the skin correction is only 6.5k. My keloid removal on my ear is about US$230 but the ultra reformer for the neck and the teeth whitening, I need to decide who I wanna go with but everything is affordable girl just Google! You would be surprised and the level of work is outstanding. The top places I believe is bogota and Medellin all the women are stacked, beautiful TITTS, ass, lip injections: Everything is just beautifully done. It's the aesthetic and plastic surgery capital. Get this if you so choose the nurses to come to your AirBNB like I'm doing to care for you since it's an outpatient procedure it's only 4usd per hour! Where in the hell in the U.S are you paying someone 4usd per hour for care. They are big on recovery Homes if you want to stay in one of those or they have nurses if you choose to do Airbnb's or hotels, big on quality care.

    August 2023 Surgery Buddies!

I'm just checking in with all my August 2023 fellow surgery patients! I hope everyone is doing well and has been genuinely happy at 19+ months PO! I finally conceded that I'm probably not going to get to my "goal" since I've been stuck here for months now. I also like to think that if I were to have skin removal on all the places I need it (stomach, arms legs and butt) it would take me to goal. This puts me at where I was weight wise most of my adult life before I started gaining weight ten years ago. So, I'm happy with the wls results physically health wise, lol just not looks wise. I knew what to expect...but its still difficult to actually seeing it. Plus all the new aches and pains from past stress on the body and shifting lose joints is .... Great 😉 Again, I hope everyone is doing well and has adjusted to their new healthy life!

    Returning to College

So sorry you have had to go through that, I feel like an outsider too. I feel too old to be in college (24) when everyone around me is 18-20. I have a few friends but being shy and well fat doesn't make it feel any easier.. It would just be nice to feel comfortable in my own skin again and that's what I'm hoping for the most.

No more saggy arms for Sophie!

13 days out - Progressing nicely, but still a BRUTAL recovery. Surgeon removed an excess of 3 ¾ pounds along with hair + sweat glands, so no need for underarm shaving or deodorant. Continuing oral and ointment antibiotics for a bit longer, as my right arm has been extra red and sensitive. Swelling, soreness, stiffness remain as the skin heals from the trauma. Six feet of sutures. Very uncomfortable, but I continue to set my eyes on the prize. Wearing Mr. Sophie's big, loose shirts with button down fronts for ease. No desire to drive or venture out. Enjoy long walks (not power walking) at night in the neighborhood with hubby and puppy - quiet and refreshing. The Happy Halloween decorations are also entertaining!
  13. Everyone is different! I’m 5years out. My dumping is more like a hot flash with a very upset stomach. I have to lay down until it passes. I never had the foamies but I am nauseous A LOT! Sometimes I can eat a piece of cake with a ton of frosting & it doesn’t bother me. Other times I can’t. I only eat 3.5 oz of food at a time. I never know what my body is going to do. I am also constipated all of the time. My daughter is 4 y out. She slowly eats 5 meals a day. She has very loose, stinky bowl movements. She can’t eat a lot of sugar & drinks diet Dr Pepper but she would really like to drink regular sodas. I don’t like the taste of diet beverages so I drink an electrolyte replacement beverage. Bariatric surgery is kinda like pregnancy & your own kids. You don’t know what you are gonna get. I would like to know if there is a correlation between how much or a percentage of weight you loose & your symptoms afterwards. Best of luck to you!
  14. Hi! my name is Shana! I had the DS Loop on 10/31/23. My HW was 309.4 pounds. My SW was 263.7 pounds. My GW was 150 pounds, achieved 7/21/24. My LW was 117.7 pounds on 2/3/25. Weight Loss Stalled on LRD

This is a toughest part of the surgery . No person in the world [or so it seems] has the same pre op diet as you, so its difficult to equate. Some have dieted before hand and some like me had lots of food funerals. I did mine for 3 weeks and lost 15 pounds. You are going well. Call your team if you have been in a stall longer than you think you should. Doing this process you will get lots of baffling losses and plateaus. Its just your body wondering why you are not feeding it the same as before. It took me 2 years to loose my weight, be patient . Stick rigidly to your teams regimen. Your liver will tell them if you have cheated or not. They won't operate if your liver is fatty. It makes it fragile to move away from the surgery site.
  16. Welp, I turned one year post op VSG this month. I am very proud of my success. Every day was hard, every day continues to be hard, but my gift to myself is a boob job. I will be getting my boobs done , lift and also skin correction to correct that hanging bra fat under the armpit area. I hate that noise. It just flaps around 😂 but it's a testament to all my hard work. I will be going to Medellin Colombia. My surgery is on June 10. I will arrive on June 7 and I'm looking forward to seeing the sites being on the lighter side I'll be able to walk up those Flights of steps at Guatape 😐. Look at all those damn steps on the pic 😂 *Colombian doctors are very, very skilled very talented. Looking forward to sharing my experience so other people can afford and have the courage to go abroad. * I would have liked to support our plastic surgeons here in the U.S but it's ridiculously priced. I went to one to get a quote and the surgery itself was only 5000 but 15+ thousand was for hospital fees , etc. that is ridiculous. The United States really needs to work on their cost. Colombia offers high levels of care due to the vast amounts of medical tourism and have high quality standards.

    August 2023 Surgery Buddies!

Suzi Davis- I stopped loosing about a year in and I am stuck at 200lbs as well. Now I will say that i have not worked out since Dec due to the weather and seasonal depression. The lowest is 195 and then right back up to 200lbs. I just dont get it. I need to do a pouch reset I think. My goal is 180. However, the past 6 months I have had two episodes where I pass out due to dehydration bc I forget to get my water in. Which sucks really bad, because now I have to really watch it.

    Post surgery must haves

My friend told me to bring these items and I was so happy I did: 1) A muumuu dress or a nightgown, your stomach will be so sensitive, even wearing shorts with elastic is uncomfortable, I lived in loose dresses for like 2 weeks 2) Chapstick, you will get thirsty and your lips will get dry because you're thirsty, a Chapstick will help with the dry feeling of your lips (can't do anything about the thirst unfortunately) 3) For when you get home, get a prop up pillow for sleeping, I didn't have a recliner anything to help me sleep, my first night home, I thought I could just go to bed like normal, nope, big mistake, it was painful to lay down, I used like 4 pillows to prop myself up like at the hospital and I bought a prop up pillow from amazon that same night I hope this helps, good luck!

    Wine Tasting

Isn’t there a carafe in the middle of the table to pour into? I didn’t have alcohol that early on, but I did go to a wine/food pairing event last month (3+years out) and it went ok as long as I only took one sip per kind of wine and ate the one bite of food paired with it. I would bring a shake in your bag in case you find out the hard way that you dump or have delayed blood sugar issues. Or, I would be tempted to say that you have strep throat or the flu, and skip the whole thing. I bailed out on a lot of stuff early on because of foamies and fear of dumping in public. It took about 9 months for me to figure out my new body. I also knew that the surgery was my one shot. (I kept singing Lin Miranda’s Not Going to Mess Up My One Shot.) I still take my health very seriously and don’t care about loosing face with friends/family. You’ve got some choices.

    Yoga Supplies and Tips Please

I love wall pushups. Been doing them for almost 2 years now almost every single day. I stand about 1 metre away from the wall (which is almost 2/3s of my height - lol!) and do 35 ordinary pushups & 35 with a clap. Should do more but I am ultimately lazy. I have distinct deltoids, triceps & biceps. Don't know how much stronger I actually am but my arms are toned which is what I wanted & not muscle bulk. My 14yr old competitive swimmer niece complemented me on my arms last week & was comparing them to hers. I’ll take that. Though she did point out they’d look better if I had the loose skin removed. Aah 14yrs olds, they give & they take away. 😂

Report Your WINS ..What is your today's win??🥇

Super huge congratulations. How does it feel to be classed as ' normal ? I never managed to get that low. I figured that if I had my excess skin chopped off then I might get close but ......
  22. I agree with prior post: boney backside! I mean you know and hope you'll lose the weight, but to lose it so that your tailbone is prominent and it hurts to sit - I never expected that! I now have to sit on a temperpedic pillow and it still hurts! Plus the painful annoying extra butt skin that squishes and bunches fighting for where it can go as I sit - yuck! Also, I didn't expect my xiphoid process to be so prominent, it wasn't this prominent when I was younger (20-30) and only 108lbs but boy does it stick out now. Finally to answer your question on if I'd still have the surgery, YES! Despite all the new aches and pains I'd definitely do it again without pause.

    August Surgery buddies

So... I am pretty vain about my hair. When I was bigger, my manta was "well at least I have great hair" because its long and super thick. But over the last 2 months, I have been shedding like crazy. It's excessive! I know there is no way I will lose all of my hair; I just have too much. But I am still freaking out a little about the amount. Plus, it's just super annoying to always have shedding hair everywhere. Has anyone else experienced this and what did you do to help? I am already taking Hair, Skin, Nail Vitamins everyday and collogen frequently.
  25. We would come down like a ton of bricks on someone who was mean on here. Its a safe place. People come for advice and reassurance and because I was helped I am paying it forward. I might add that it keeps me on track too so I am not as selfless as I seem. This is wise, I told only my husband and son. It was my decision to do this and like you I didn't want to listen to any negativity. Yes you will, I do. But in the beginning few days its a scary struggle and I did panic at this stage but we all got there. I got to a size and weight where I was happy. You then up your calories, a little each week until you get to the point where you stop loosing weight. Its really simple but takes a little courage to let go a bit.
